    - *mny still not working I found and copied a file called mymoney0.mny to the JumpDrive, clicked it on. I got a screen asking what I wanted to open it with. Selected Money. It went through the installation questions. Said it would keep a copy of my old version of Money. Went through the conversion, but nothing is there. The file contains approx. 2.1 MB.     - Upgrade from Money 99 to 03 I can't get my backup file into Money 2003 from Money 1999. I transfered all the data to a JumpDrive. It has the ext. bak. I've put it on my C drive and tried to open it from there. I've been on the phone with Compaq for 3 hours and MSFT for 1. No one has been able to help me yet.     - What I'd like to see in Money 2005 I thought that I would just voice a couple of things that I think would make money a even better product. I know its a bit late for Money 2004 now, but something to consider for the 2005 release. Currency rates: At the moment if you want to see the currency rates you have to go into options to list them. Being able to display a customisable list of them as an entry on the home page, or on the portfolio page would be useful. This information is already being synced anyway - likewise - Tourist Rates: Having approximate tourist rates, or tourist rates being offered by a certain provider (Thomas Cook for example here in the UK) and being able to display them on the home page / portfolio. With links to buy current at the rate from the provider and perhaps even Travellers cheques. Premium Bonds: (UK) Proper premium bonds entry in the National Savings section of the Add Investment wizard. Further, the ability to enter the Bond numbers / Holders number into Money and to have it check the bond numbers against the ERNIE information that is available on the National Savings web site. (www.nationalsavings.co.uk) Lottery Numbers: Simple this one. Enter your lottery numbers in a form (for users who play the same numbers) or in a box for random number players and have it check them for you against on-line service results. Endowment Insurance bonus tracking On the Portfolio screen, have a little "Closed" entry appear once the index / Investments market has closed for the day / week. A updated Windows CE based Handheld PC client (in currencies other than US/CAN $ this time please) In the UK edition, if you add the travel icon to the toolbar, the first time you click it, it defaults to Expedia USA, this should default to Expedia.co.uk Thats all I can think of for now.     - out of memory error message I try to use the "transactions by payee" report report and I get an error message, can't remember what that says, but when I close that window another opens with the error message that it's out of memory and it won't let me close that window or box nor close down the program. Then I do the control/alt/delete and the task manager opens, let's me close the program that way but then I can't close the task manager. HELP! I need that report for our business and I need the task manager to work. The MS Money2002 came installed on my computer and I even installed the program again but it didn't correct the problem.     - Reallocating w/ Money 2002 Pretty new to Money Can anyone explain why when I try to reallocate between budget months that it increases/decreases the budgets for that month? e.g. I reallocate $20 from July to June for some category and my total monthly budget for July looks like I have an extra $20 to spend, while June has $20 less.     - can't restore my back-up I backed-up my files from MS money 2000/windows 98 and installed money 2003/windows XP. When I try to restore the back-up date into money 2003. I get "file is corrupted or is not a .mny file" it is not a .mny file, it is an .mbf file. I can't restore this data and have no other copies.     - Restoring previous version Backups Hi My system had a major crash and needed a new hard drive. Went to install Money 200 on the new drive and my Money 2000 cd must be damaged as it wouldn't install. So I went and bought Money 2003 that installed no problems but it won't allow me to restore my backup Money file from the older version 2000. Can anyone help as I'm really getting desperate and can't seem to locate an old version of Money 2000 to buy to install so that I can recover my data. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.     - Does "Balance this account" EVER work? Every time I try to balance an account, I get the error where I have to close everything down, start up the salv.exe program, and fix the My Money file.     - Manually changing interest Hi, I am entering a loan which started a while ago and has already accrued interest. Money thinks that the interest started today and so its calculated interest is incorrect.     - Money 2004 - Equity Option Problems If anyone has any -Positive- experience with Money 2004 and Equity Options, please post them. I figure that either: - Microsoft doesn't have anyone on their Money team with any experience trading options? - They're targeting Money for Joe Sixpack, who is more concerned with paying the minimum payment on his Visa bill at the last possible minute via epay. Here are my main issues: 1. Money 2003 can't import buy/sell transactions for Equity Options. (Equity transactions from my Vanguard and Scottrade accounts are imported just fine.) You can MANUALLY enter Equity Option transactions, however. I buy/sell a couple of these every week, and probably spend at least an hour a week reconciling which Options have: - Expired - Repurchased - Sold - Sold with an in-the-money covered call 2. Money 2003 can't recognize when an out-of-the-money Equity Option has expired. Money keeps it in your account forever, unless you find it and then MANUALLY enter an "Expire" transaction for the old option. Money also uses the last trade as the value, so your account balance is wrong until you enter the Expire transaction. 3. Money 2003 can't link your investment in the stock to your profits/losses on the options. Last year, one of my stocks was up around 10%, but I made +50% by owning the stock and trading the covered calls. (Yes, I certainly lost money on others.) I've been keeping these figures in my homegrown Excel spreadsheet. It would be nice if Microsoft could figure some of this stuff out! Please post any work-arounds or responses. Thanks!     - Converting M99.mny to M2003.mny..... ....I receive this error: "Money cannot open this file because it was created by an incompatible version". My Money 99 is an italian version; I downloaded trial version of M2003 (M11USWEB.exe) and I installed it in a separated folder, anyway M03 changed my files in my original folder and I had to reinstall Money 99 to fix up all. I think the two programs speak a different language... I should like to know if it will be possible to use my M99.mny file with next Money 2004 and if this, or Money 2003, will be available also in italian version (I noted that Italy is not in the list of international site of Money).     - odd behavior with bill pay to Discover Card This doesn't happen with other bill pays (through Bank One, which uses Checkfree behind the scenes). When I schedule an e-pay say for July 31, the transaction is immediately marked with "E". Obviously, nothing happens to my Checking account register at the bank until July 31. Eventually when July 31 rolls around, when the transaction shows up in my bank, then that statement when downloaded into Money 2003, adds another line to the account register, throwing off all the balances. When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups, and send out another $6.00 to names on the list, putting your name at number 6 again. And start posting again. The thing to remember is: do you realize that thousands of people all over the world are joining the internet and reading these articles everyday?, JUST LIKE YOU are now!! So, can you afford $6.00 and see if it really works?? I think so... People have said, what if the plan is played out and no one sends you the money? So what! What are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it a try?     - Out-of-state checks holding period Hello: It's not about Money program but rather about the money itself. I wrote a check to a foreign company. The funds were drawn from my account, but didn't arrive at the recipient's bank. I called Bank One, and they said there's 15 days' holding period for all out-of-state checks, according to federal regulations. I wonder, who keeps the money and, naturally, the interest - is it Bank One (unlikely), or the Fed (most likely)? as I recall, this must be a new development, at least such a long term.     - TD Waterhouse duplicating transactions In OFX downloads, the transaction ID <FITID> is supposed to be the same for a given transaction if you download it again. That way Money realizes that a transaction has already been downloaded. Additionally, the file should not include transactions dated before the <DTSTART> date. Failure to do this is not bad if the <FITID> has been maintained. However TD Waterhouse has been, for the last week approximately, been missing on both counts. As a consequence the transactions for the last two months have been trying to duplicate in the downloads. This is tricky to work around. The <FITID> for a given transaction are not limited to a single change but seem to be different each time I have checked. My suggestion is to make sure you have a good backup file before downloading so you can restore the backup if you don't like the download. There are other possible workarounds that vary according to the version of Money you have. And those of you who keep overwriting the same backup file should consider mending your ways! Have more than one fairly recent backup file. That is not specific to TD Waterhouse, but is important to all. Tag: Refinance Home Tag: 141295

    - Loan is broken in Money 2k3 I'm trying to get money to recalculate the p&i on past payments. It says it will, but does nothing. The problem is that the first 6 payments look normal, the next 2 registers too high an interest payment, the next 3 register NO interest payments, the next registers a HUGE increase in principal (it's supposed to go DOWN!!!), and the last registers a small increase in principal. Every time I go back to the loan details and try to reconfirm the settings (6.75%, 30yr fixed), it says there are 13 payments to update, but does not touch any of them.     - Loan not working correctly- again =( I just realized that my loan information was set up incorrectly, and Im not sure how to fix it. Okay, like I said in my post, I am trying to create a loan which is accruing interest NOW, BUT i dont have to make payments until 05. However, when I try setting up the loan, it doesnt calculate interest now. It just has it at the principal amount and does not start caclulating interest until 2005. Secondly, I have a question about making the payments. I would like to start making payments on my loan now.     - One more loan question =) Hi, I am trying to pay a loan off EARLY; I plan on making sporadic payments of different amounts. There is interest accruing on the account, but I am not scheduled to make any payments until 2005. I have successfully entered the loan into Money (thanks Bonnie) using the official repayment date (Nov. 2005), but when I try and make a payment to the loan, Money says that I can not do so until 2005.     - Scheduled Bills Occasionally when I download my bank statement and edit all of the transactions to match my scheduled bills & deposits, some are not recognized. Most of the time when there is a transaction that is a scheduled bill/deposit, it will prompt me to verify if it is one of the scheduled items. However, sometimes it doesn't prompt me and an overdue bill will sit as unpaid accumulating days past due. Is there a way to get scheduled bill to recognize the appropriate transaction without using the skip this occurrence function?     - Suggestions / Help Hi: I would like some advice on setting up the budget and accounts in Money 2003. I have been using excel for years to do our finances but would like to switch to Money 2003. I believe the problems I am having are not unique. I am open to suggestions for improving the workflow. Any help would be appreciated. Here is some background information: * A primary checking account. * A primary savings account * An ING account * Two credit cards * Mortgage * CarLoan * One 401(k) * Two Roth-IRAs I have a fairly detailed budget. All of the monthly bills are on autopay and are deducted automatically from the checking account or charged automatically on one of the credit cards. Here are the problems I am having and some of my suggestions: * I would like to set up the bills as recurring but not have them show up in the budget. (I would like to use my own budget). Currently if I make anything recurring, it gets is own budget entry and I have two budget items for everything and I am not able to delete the ones the Money created from the budget unless I also cancel the recurring/bill feature for them. * For the items/bills that are not due every month, (car insurance (A), real-estate taxes (B), home-insurance (C), car-maintenance etc.) I divide them into 12 and transfer a monthly amount to the savings: (A+B+C..)/12. Whenever a particular item is due, I transfer the amount back to the checking account and pay the bill. How should I set this up? A separate account for each of these items where I "transfer" to each of these accounts monthly and "transfer" back when they are due? My goals for this: o know at a glance how much I have saved for each purpose o be reminded when they are due o easy reconcilliation when they get deducted from my checking/credit account or transferred to/from the savings account. * At the end of every month, I would like to: o Make up for the shortfall in some budget items with excesses in other categories and then if something is remaining in a category, roll some of it over to the next month i.e. say I have a food budget to 200 and I spent only 150 and I know there are guests coming in next month, I would like to roll over the excess 30 to the next month food budget and use 20 to make up for the extra I spent on movies. Or put it in long term savings if I choose to. If there is a deficit, I would like to roll the deficit over so that next month's budget is less. The default behavior would be to just roll the balance or deficit over to the same category automatically. o bills that fall around the end of the month get cashed the next month but I would like to somehow tell Money that they are for previous month without changing the transaction date. * I would like to set up the home and car as assets with loans attached to them and have recurring bills but use my own budget categories for them. * How do I categorize things that I know are temporary, e.g. $20 that I loan to someone this month but get it back next month or I pay $50 for something which has a $40 coming back in 8 weeks as mail in rebate. * How do I reconcile the credit-card payment which show up on both in the checking account and in the credit card statement? * How do I resolve budget items that span two major categories e.g. car insurance. Does it go under insurance or under automobile? (Ideally I would like it to be both but not duplicated). I guess my suggestion is to allow overlapping categories. * Although I anticipate all my transactions to be downloaded from statements, it would be nice to have a way of entering transactions without having to choose the account first. For me accounts are secondary, it is "what" and "how much" that is important. When I start Money, I would like to see a summary of recent transactions (sorted by date) with the account name in the last column. Then I should be able just append a new transaction manually to that list choosing the account the last from a popup menu (after entering date, category, payee, amount etc).     - Weighted Average Price I have a stock in my portfolio that keeps reporting that the value has changed 'x' percent based on a weighted average cost of $0.00. I have only two transactions (buys) for this stock and the price has been input correctly for both transactions. Is there something I am missing to get the weighted average price to calculate correctly? The percent change is being calculated correctly based on what the weighted average cost should be, but as I mentioned the reported weighted average is $0.00. All other stocks in my portfolio have their averages calculated and reported correctly so I can't figure out what could be causing this. I have WinXP Pro SP1 and Money 2003. When showing the Monthly Budget report, there is one line item for "Other Expenses". I can display those transactions by double-clicking on that line item. But can I print them somehow?     - Cannot sync multiple accounts at one bank. Right now there is a limitation in Money ( I have 2003) where I cannot sync multiple online access accounts to the same bank. Example: I have three different checking accounts at Bank One, yet MSM2003 will only sync with one of them. For ther other two I have to download and import the transactions.     - Access to web page for OFX Driver for Money 98 When a file is downloaded from my financial Inst. in the ofx format money 98 says need a file update and askes you to launch your browser to the following web page http://www.microsoft.com/money/ofx This page however is never available for viewing.     - Error synch I am having trouble finding a tread that covers synch problems with Money 2003 Deluxe. Seen people with the same problem here before, but I don't think the solution was ever found. I'm running Windows XP. I don't have any problem with turning on Passport. I click "Access my money on the web", my accounts show up, when I click next then Money freezes for a while and I get the error "An unexpected error has occurred. Your data is not being sychronized with MSN Money of the web." I updated from Money 2002 deluxe about 5 months ago and I remember having the exact problem then too.
