Help!
I use Money 2002 Deluxe & Business to manage 6 business
bank accounts and 2 petty cash accounts. All of a sudden,
Money has started to randomly change some of the entries
in the petty cash accounts. It changes them in increments
of $50, $100, $150 or $200. For example, one entry that
was originally $200 on Jan 1, now reads $400. One on
2/2/04 for $70.40 now reads $170.40. Conversely, on 4/17,
the amount was $800 and it is $600!
There are some 20 such changes that I have detected so
far. I am the only one using this program. I can't see
any pattern to the changes (payee, amount paid, etc).
What is going on? Someone mentioned that it could be a
problem with the computer's memory. Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Close Money

In Internet Explorer delete your browser temporary files with
Tools->InternetOptions->DeleteFiles.

Then open Money with Start->Run and entering
"msmoney -s" without the quotes into the box.

Any improvement?

I just did what you proposed but the data is still
corrupted (no changes).
What else can I do? I had a computer repair person here
all afternoon running virus scans and there is no virus
in my CPU..

Next I would consider salv.exe.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;274584
describes the use.

It is not quite as safe as the first two things I suggested, but
seldom causes problems. Note that salv.exe can make its changes into
a different filename, so your un-salvaged file will still be around.
You should keep multiple-version backup files under normal
circumstances, and certainly under these circumstances.

Another possibility is that there is a problem with your Money
installation. Reinstalling, preferably to a different folder, could
be worthwhile. Do an internet update after the reinstall.

Well, I saved my files under new names, did both salvages
(quick and standard), reinstalled Money and did an
update. The salvage said there was no corruption. The
erroneous data remains. This is overwhelming. I have
started changing everything by hand, one by one, as per
my hard copies. It'll likely take all week.
I thank you for your time. But, if it happens again I'm
switching to Quickbook - everyone one in town uses that
program instead of Money and have no problems to report.

I'm not sure whether the salvage will definitely change those transactions
back, but if you change them to the correct values again, do they stay that
way?
