Will the newest version of Money support and accept
previous versions files? I used Money 98 and will be
purchasing Money 2003 (or 04), but want to make sure that
my old file will be compatible. Any ideas?

Quicken 401k to Money 401k
Just replaced my Quicken with Money 2004. Everything converted well.
Only thing I can't figure out: I have an account "My 401k" ... in
Quicken.. part of my paycheck deductions include a transfer to the
401k account. I set the account in Q to be included on tax reports.
Money however, shows the account but no income deduction in tax
manager or tax estimator. How do I tell Money that the 401k funds

Money 2004 Veritas Backup
Caution - 3rd party backup programs eg Veritas cannot backup the *.mny file
if downloads are scheduled -mnyschdl is a running task. Veritas finds the

Cannot seem to create cutomized invoice properly
OK --
Running Money 2004 for first time tonight. Seems to work
adequately.
Tried to customize one of the canned portrait formatted
invoices (only deleted a couple items from being printed
and modified fonts for now). Save as new template. When
I go to print an invoice with the modified template - it
shows invoice wrong in print preview mode and prints wrong
as well. Although the template is a portrait formatted
template and it shows the template in portrait mode - but
it turns the paper to landscape mode! Soooo... only half
of the invoice is printed sideways on the sheet of paper
with lots of white space. If you use a canned portrait
invoice without modifying it - it prints just fine. Once
you edit it - it buggers the formatting. How do you get
around this? Or is this just a new and improved print
preview bug?

System date error on Money 2004 trial.
I downloaded the trial version of Money 2004 Deluxe from MS's website and
installed it. It soon became apparent that it was a US specific version so I
uninstalled it and located the trial version of the UK specific one.
Unfortunately, Money isn't happy, and every time I start the application, it
reports that the system date is set earlier than the date on which I first
used Money (it isn't).
Any suggestions on how to get around this? I really would love to try it
out.

2004 online upgrade
First, could somebody tell me what file "transactions"
are stored in. I haven't been using Money very long,
about 2 weeks, and haven't done a backup yet.
I recently did an upgrade that popped up for Microsoft
Money 2004 Deluxe. After the upgrade Money will not
start. I get this error message, "Unable to initalize a
required Money componet. Please reinstall Money from your
original product disks." I did the reinstall, twice, and
still get the same results. Any way around this issue? I
would do a total unistall and reinstall, but I need my

When I look over the entries in one account, everything
has been reviewed (i.e., no bolded text). However, the
count in the 'Items to Review' is not zero. What is with

Exporting *Multiple* Investment Accounts in M2003 to comma or tab delineated
Want to create comma delineated or QIF exoports. Is there anyway to
accomplish this easily for multiple investment accounts. Export only does
this one account at a time. Too time consuming.

spliting a loan payment
I have a loan through a bank, which is paid automatically
immediately after i get my paycheck. My Money has a loan
account set up for this however it pays one lump some at
the end of the month, so i changed it to weekly but then
the numbers don't come out and money makes me go back and
change things. Is there a way to change it so that it

Fidelity Investments not showing up as online
Fidelity Investments is not available for online
services. In the "Online Services Manager" in my main $
file, it shows up in the "Banks and Brokerages that have
no services:" category. This happens when I create a new
Fidelity account in my main file.
However, if I create a new Fidelity Investments account
in a new MSM file, then Fidelity Investments shows up as
available for online services.
Since my main MSM file (where that problem appears) goes
back a long way (originally quicken, then imported into
MSM, and several upgrades), I wonder if it has been
corrupted. I tried a fix (level 2 from the file menu)
but that didn't solve my Fidelity online problem.
If I can't get Fidelity to show-up in my main, then can I
migrate my accounts from main into a new file?

Dividend are negative after upgrade to Money 2004
I recently upgraded to Money 2004 and noticed that the amount of all
dividends PRIOR to January 1st 2003 is now negative. For example, a dividend
of $30.25 on 06/10/2002 is now ($30.25). As you can imagine, all my
investment accounts have an incorrect balance because of this. Prior to
upgrading to Money 2004, everything was fine but those amounts were changed
when I upgraded.
I just spend an hour going through all my transactions and changing the
dividend amount back to the correct value and my balances are now back to
the correct value as well. I'm concerned that the upgrade may have changed
other amounts that I don't know about.

Account list balance incorrect
I apologize in advance for the length of this post, but I noticed a similar
post regarding a different version of Money and it seemed to me that more
infomation on the problem might result in a more specific answer.
I recently installed Money 2004. I noticed that for several accounts the
balance listed on the Account List page is incorrect. When I check the
register for these accounts, I find the correct balance. The downloaded
balance-that is, cleared transactions-is correct; today's balance-that is,
the balance above the black line in the register-is correct, and ending
balance-including all transactions that have been submitted, including
scheduled epays-these are ALL correct. If I run a balance sheet (Account
Balances) for the current period, the balances are correct. After much
research, I found that future recurring transactions that are set up on the
Bills and Deposits page, but have not yet been submitted, are being included
in the calculation of the balance on the Account List page.
Upon further investigation, I find that all of these transactions appear on
the View Electronic Transaction page as checked and ready to submit-although
I never checked them. I clear the check boxes, go back to the Acount List
page, the balance is still wrong. I return to the View Electronic
Transaction page and all the boxes are checked again. I go to the Bills and
Deposits page, and each of these future transactions (every one up to the
middle of 2004) says that a draft exists of this payment and is waiting to
be submitted-even though I have not created any drafts. I go to the Tools,
Option Menu and confirm that the option to "save electronic payments as
drafts" is NOT selected. It isn't. Further strangeness: the drafts do NOT
show in the register!!
I go back to the Bills and Deposits page and skip every transaction that
shows a draft exists and then edit each recurring payment to restore the
correct due date. The draft messages are eliminated. I go to the Accounts
List and the balance is still wrong. I go to the View Electronic Transaction
page, and the future scheduled transactions are all listed and checked as
ready to send. I futilely uncheck the boxes, confirm that the Account list
balance is still wrong and return to the View Electronic Transaction to find
the boxes all checked. So, I deleted all of these transactions from the
Electronic Transactions Ready to Send list. I checked the Bills and Deposit
page and all the scheduled transactions are still listed, with correct dates
and without the "draft exists" message. All looks great. I return to the
Account List page and the balances are still wrong.
I can see a few of the offending transactions on the Account List page
listed below the account, but when I click on them, or on View All, it takes
me to the register which is correct and doesn't show them. I found that I
could run a balance sheet with a date in mid 2004 and all of the offending
transactions show up.
I have checked the program Help file, the Online Help, the online manual,
and the newsgroup without finding an answer. I checked to confirm that I do
not have MSN Money enabled, and I do not.
My question is: why are future scheduled transactions that I have not
selected to pay affecting the balance on the Account List page?
I'd also like to know why the "drafts" noted on the Bills and Deposit page
did not show up in the register and why all the scheduled transactions
(every one-all the way through mid 2004) was somehow selected, without any
input by me, to be sent? When you close the program and the message comes up
and says "You have unsent electronic transactions. Do you want to send them
now?" What if I had mistakenly hit "Yes" instead of "No?" It kind of defeats
the purpose of scheduling transactions-which is to increase efficiency. Tag: Quicken inventory Tag: 150598
Money Split Transaction Procedure
When entering a check and splitting the expense to several categories,
including "Cash Withdrawn", I normally reassign that portion as expenses are
incurred. I merely update the existing transaction formerly assigned to
Cash Withdrawn by reassigning it to other expense categories where the cash
was spent.
The only problem with this procedure is that Money does not re-display a
"Remaining Total" as split category reassignments are entered. This is not
a problem in Quicken.
It is not logical that "Cash Withdrawn" is not reassigned to other final
expense categories. Otherwise, the eventual expense categories affected
would never be recognized for reporting.
Please share any alternatives that might produce the desired result,
assuming Money is never updated to accomodate this issue. Tag: Quicken inventory Tag: 150594
Entering puts and calls
I am attempting to enter a call option without success.
The situation is as follows: I have an account in which I
have a 100 share position of a stock. I have sold a call
option on that company. When I try to enter the call
option, per the directions in MSMoney help titled "Enter
puts and calls" I follow this procedure.
1.Go to the account that contains the investment
2.Click NEW
3.In the INVESTMENT box, type the name of the new
investment, which in this case is Call Dow Chemical Co.$35
for 01/17/04.
4.Click STOCK, and then click NEXT
5.Enter the option symbol [DOWAG], and then click FINISH
6.In the ACTIVITY box, I click SELL
7. In the QUANTITY box, enter the number of shares you're
entitled to buy or sell on the call or put. [ In my case,
I have sold 1 Call option, so I enter 100 in the QUANTITY
box.]
8.In the PRICE box I enter 1.35, and the commission info
9.When you are finished, click ENTER.
However when I click on enter, the following message comes
up. "you have entered more of'Call Dow Chemical$35 for
01/17/04' to renew or redeem than you have in this account"
I am confused by this message because I have 100 shares of
Dow Chemical in the account, which is the amount of shares
that having sold 1 Call option on Dow Chemical entitles me

card payment I had made into my checking account. It had
the desired affect of debiting my checking balance, but
it oddly increases my credit card debt by the same

Issues with Reconciling 401(k) investment Account
Hello,
When I try to reconcile my 401(k) account, I'm running
the balancing "wizard", however none of the "Cash
Transactions" for the given period are being moved to
the "Investment Transations" as they have in the past.
So now, when I look at the bottom left when I'm in
the "Cash Transactions" account, it says "Updated on
6/30/03", but there are still cash transactions from
April until June.
Did I do something wrong? Or how can I delete the last
reconciliation?

Help! -discrepancy in starting balance
Can someone pls. help me here? I have been working to try
and resolve this starting balance issue with no luck. I
have been able to reconcile the transactions of my most
current bank statement. In short the difference is now
zero. However, when I try and close out the balancing
process I receieve a message that states "The starting
balance calculated from your money records still does not
match the starting balance entered from your statement."
The amount is ($3,107.21). Should I have the application
go ahead and make an adkustment for me? What are the pros
and cons of this approach?

How do you UNACCEPT, after accepting?
I accidently accepted a transaction that was to a
different payee, but with the same amount. Now I am trying
to correct the problem, but I can't figure out how to
Unaccept and then click Change to select a different
transaction. Is there an easy way to do this?
All I know to do is delete the transaction, which submits
the canceled payment option to Checkfree, and then resend
and redown to get back to where I can accept the correct

How to enter returned merchandise?
Consider that I buy a radio from Wal-Mart and enter it as:
Payee: Wal-Mart $35.00
Category: Electronics (expense)
During the same month, I bring the radio back for a full refund. I make the
following journal entry:
Payee: Wal-Mart $35.00
Category: Other Income: Merchandise Returne (income)
When I run the monthly income/expense report, the $35.00 is treated as an
expense and also appears with income. If I'd like to view only expenses or
income for the month, the report will be skewed. I could manually subtract
out the $35.00 but that becomes cumbersome with more similar transactions.
Is there a way to have these types of entries (purchase and return occuring
within the same month) disappear on expense and income reports since they
are irrelevant to the view I want?

Hi,
Now I am using quickbooks basic and am looking for a
program that will be like it as far as memorizing
invoices into a memorized transaction list for monthly,
quarterly, semiannually, yearly billing.
After these invoices are memorized then I need to be able
to send them all out at once in whichever memorized group
they are in like monthly, quarterly, etc.
I cannot use your trial version because it is for the
deluxe version and not the small business version. I
would need to be able to try the small business edition
to make sure it will fit my needs.

When I click on PICK AN ACCOUNT TO USE,
then OTHER OPEN ACCOUNTS,
I see a symbol next to some of my credit card accounts
(but not all)...
the symbol looks like a diagonal H in front of the

File size increase
After I synchronized my Money accounts with my MSN Money
account my file size increased from 13,712 Kb to
2,095,168 Kb. I scanned for viruses and didn't find
any. Obviously, this can't be the real file for my data

since it would take over 480 disks.

Hi, "Account Balance" is the balance that is listed in
your register & corresponds with your statement balance
right? Isn't "Today's Balance" your daily running
balance? (your account balance minus outstanding expenses)
