    - Paychecks and Draws Hey all, Have an interesting question here regarding how I get paid and what do I put into Money. I get paid once a month...but I get two checks. The first check on the 15th of every month is a draw on my next check. The second check is my actual paycheck. Taxes are not taken out on my first check, but on my second check taxes are taken out, and on my deductions they include the draw check on the 15th...the first check. How would I go about putting this into Money? I download my statements and it tries to make the seperate checks two different transactions.     - PROPOSAL: Class Action Suit Against Microsoft for Money 2005 I propose that anyone who's actually paid for MS Money 2005 (like myself) and has had nothing but unexplained, unresolved, and undue problems with this joke called a "business tool" (like myself) join forces - and launch a huge lawsuit up this company's behind.     - What a disappointment The popular "uber-geek" these days is anti-Microsoft. Many closet-geeks and IT Pro's alike are viewed as phonies if they don't have a machine at home running some flavor of Linux with all types of stories about how refreshing it is to have an OS that functions well on so little. I like Microsoft products. I've always liked Windows and all of its products. I've always supported Microsoft Money. It started out as a joke, but has turned into tradition that every Christmas, I get every member of my family the lastest version of Microsoft Money. I did that this year, and man is my family mad at me. We all use Bank of America. Money 2005 was supposed to work with Bank of America, the "All except CA, WA, etc." does not. That's what we all use, and it doesn't work. It doesn't matter who's fault it is, the web site and product docs on-line say it works. It doesn't. When we tried to import the ocx or qif files, it didn't recognize the Bank of America account money forced us to setup, we had to create a new one called "checking" or something. Then, the file would import, but we couldn't put the transactions into the Bank of America account we setup. It's a confusing mess. It doesn't work like it's supposed to, and we're back to "keying-in" every transaction. I'm really upset. I'm going to try Quicken, and if it works, we're done with Money forever. Sorry guys, but this is silly. I've always like Money for it's simplicity. I know how to read a help file and check out support articles online. I can't figure out how to get my checking account setup so that I don't have to type in every single check. A year ago, no big deal. This year though...someone's software will do it for me.     - Possible to show stock price next to its option? Money 2005 Premium does a reasonably good job of handling equity options (biggest problem: doesn't exercise written puts properly). It would be very handy to see in a portfolio or report the stock price of the underlying security for an option. For example, if I sell a $25 June 05 Microsoft Put, I can see lots of information about that option in reports and the portfolio screen. However, I don't see the choice of seeing the underlying stock price - Microsoft's stock price - next to the option. This would be really handy to know how far the option is in/at/out of the money.     - Worries about importing Quicken 04 into Money 05 I've been using MS Money 05 Premium to track investments these past few weeks with success. Now it's time to import my Quicken 2004 banking and credit card accounts into my Money. I have some worries about bringing in 10 years of data. Questions: 1) How does Money handle transfers on import or conversion? If I have a checking account with transfers to a credit card account for payment, will Money handle these as transfers as well? 2) Do I need to create these accounts in Money applying the conversion? 3) If I choose to export one account at a time from Quicken and then import 1 account at a time, how does Money handle a transfer imported from one account if the other account doesn't exist yet? 4) Is it best to convert a Quicken account or import/export?     - Money 2002: Alphanumeric Characters in Password I am using MS Money 2002 Standard Edition. My banking institution recently changed their password requirement to include both alpha and numeric characters. When I try to download my bank transactions into MS Money 2002, I get an error message that Money does not allow alpha characters in the password to access my bank's account.     - "Update in Progress" - but its not I added a bank, and have been updating it daily. I don't know what I did, maybe closed money while it was updating.. but now it says "update in progress" - and I know its not cause I've shut down several times. When I try to "update now" it says it can't because one is in progress. But I know its not. I'm sure I could delete the account, but then I would loose all my categorized transactions.     - Can't sign into Money 2004 I tried to use Money 2004 installed on my HP laptop, and it asks for a passowrd. My .netpassport does not work. I called HP and they said uninstall and reinstall, but it didn't work. I have no choices except to enter password; the only selection is File - new, restore, backup, close.     - Items for review wont show up I am using MS Money 2004 Small Business. My checking account balance is downloaded each day from my bank. For the last couple days, it continues to download transactions, and tells me that there are now 8 items to review, but when I open up the account, nothing is bold faced to review. On the pane to the left, it still lists 8 items to review. I even went to the bank website and downloaded in the most recent transactions, but this only made the list of items to review larger. I still can't accept any of them. I have tried a quick repair. I also tried restoring the back up, but unfortunately the back up copy is from a day when it listed 1 item to review that did not show up. My other accounts download fine.     - Mortgage Calculations Can anyone tell/show me how Money calculates the mortgage principal and interest amounts? I've been pulling (what's left) my hair out the last couple of days trying to figure this out. I'm sure there is some kind of standard howto but I am unable to find anything in my many searches.     - tax escrow refund What's the most accurate way to record a tax escrow refund? When I make my mortgage payments, I split the transaction with a portion going to Taxes: Property. Recently when I received the refund, I just applied it under the payee name (the bank that I have my mortgage with) but instead of expense I put the amount in the income column and used the same account (taxes: property).     - Track S&P 500 vs. my Portfolio? Just upgraded to Money2005 - I would like to track the performance of my Portfolio in %Total Return - YTD vs. the S&P 500 Index. I set up an "Investments to Watch" account, added the Index to it ($SPX.X) - but, while it tracks the price of the index, it doesn't give any % - just an "N/A" under that field. Mind, I have the number of shares owned as 0 - so that it doesn't throw off my account totals. Is there a way to do this? Also - if anyone's still reading: When I go to "Investments" home - the totals for my Portfolio make no sense? My accounts are correct, and the amount in each account is correct, but the total at the bottom is off by over 1000! Any ideas?     - How do I chnage next check number? I have a range of check numbers that I use for checks I print, and a checkbook with checks in a second range. When I am adding a checking transaction and specify next check, MONEY inserts the next check number in the "printer checks" range. I would much prefer that it insert the next check in the "checkbook" range. Does anyone know how to accomplish this change in behavior? I am currently running MONEY 2004 Deluxe.     - Currency Reporting error I recently reported the error in tax-capital gains report of foreign investments for Money2004 Canadian edition. While MSFT support team acknowledges the bug, which is reproduceable, they provide no response as to when, if the problem will be resolved.     - M2005 undeletable transaction stuck I have a transaction that is "STUCK." It shows up in reports as having various categories, but in the account register it is blank / unassigned. Until you hover over it with the mouse. Then, it shows the erroneous categories in a pop-up. There seems to be no way to delete or edit this transaction.     - Converting QIF files to Excel Quicken Interchange Format? How do I convert these files to a useful format (txt, csv, excel)? My wife's bank seems to think that all the world has either MS Money or Quicken installed. We have neither, nor do I want to install them just download banking information. Have invested a huge amount of time googling I've found an sed script[1] or an excel plugin ($$) [2]. While the sed script is esthetically appealing there has to be a simpler way than teaching my wife how to use and ancient Unix tool. Just try explaining what a Stream Editor is to a normal human being and I think you will understand my problem. Any suggestions (other than switching banks)?     - Brokerage transactions inport sequence I noticed when updating/importing from my Broker (FreeTrade/Ameritrade) that the sequence of the transaction Money shows in the review screen is different than what the brokerage shows. Money shows all sells first and then all buys. Is there a way to accept the transactions like you want them entered in the register? Money always goes from first in list down. I know in Quicken you can highlight the one you want next. Since Money had all my "sells" listed first I had to accept them and vois, then accept all the "buys", then go back and move the voided transactions and unvoid so the sells would record first...     - problem retrieving backup I had Money 2002, I just went to 2005, I need to open a backup file MS Money.M10 created with 2002. when I try to open it, I am told that I need 2002 to open it. in order to put 2002 on my Pc I need to remove 2005, if I remove 2005, I am told I cannot open files saved in 2005 with previous versions.     - Advanced budget changed my expense amounts in February Hi, It took me most of the month of January to tweak out my budgeted expenses in the Advanced Budget, only to find that on February 1st is reduced all the amounts by varying small amount of dollars and cents. Is this because February has only 28 days? Over 90% of my expenses are set up as "monthly" expenses because they don't change month over month, regardless of how many days there are in the month. Anyone have any idea on how to fix this? I tried editing the budget but all the amounts are as they should be in there, then I click "Finish" after editing the budget, but all the amounts show up all messed up again. <sigh> Here's 2 examples: Home expenses is set to $800 monthly in the budget, shows up as $735.93 in the February budget.     - Loan/Investment In Yr 2003, I invested 5K in a a local business. The money was already taxed when I received it. I am now starting to get a return on my investment - essentially, payments back on the original 5K. I'm not really making any money at this point (until I break even). How do I track this now?     - Auto Back Up other than FDD When I shut the program down I get the "Back Up to FDD" prompt but I want to back up to CD. Can this be done ? The 'Options' button only then gives me the choice to auto back up to FDD with a 'save in' option only of Removable Disk - (A:) witha scroll down of nothing else . How do I get it to go to a CD? And the files that are auto backed up to HDD - how do I restore these? as I can see the format is specific to the Money 2001.     - When are .mbf files created? I am trying to figure out a problem and I noticed that Money seems to create backup files (.mbf). Does anyone know what causes Money 2003 to do this? I noticed three of these files created within a 10 minute period one day but no other ones that I see. Does it also delete older ones according to some rotating scheme? I also noticed something called "my portfolio Backup.mbf" that was created last nite. I know that I did not do this myself. Thanks in advance.     - Money 2005 display oddities Hi All, I recently installed Microsoft Money 2005. It successfully upgraded my Money 2004 file. If I start MS Money by double-clicking on my Money file, the opening screen of Money is missing characters from text captions, buttons. If I enter the correct .NET passport password, I get in and the text on most of the screen on my Money Homepage is missing! But, If I start MS Money via start menu and since it remembers the last open file, it opens that same file with a proper (all characters present) screen. What's going on?     - duplicate entries in budget I have Money 2003 and I have been using it to manage my account succesfully for a year or so now. I recently set up a simple budget. I did this from scratch by creating the accounts and amounts I wanted. When I finsihed it balanced, etc. The problem is that now - every time I pay a bill - instead of taking the money out of the budget account - it simply increases the budget account by the amount of the bill. I can work around it by changing amounts, etc. - although with 1 time bills they don't even show up in the budget. Doing this though is quickly messing up the subsiquent monthly and yearly views and rendering the budget basically useless for me. I have tried hunting through help files, I have tried entering the bills in all different ways. I have tried adjusting them after the fact. I have tried rebuilding the budget from scratch - and time and again the same things happens. For example: I will set up an account for Insurance : Automobile and set it for $100 per month. Then I will pay the bill say for $97.00. Instead of showing that I have $3 left in the budget - it increase my monthly budget to $197.00 and shows I still have $100 left. I am getting the sense from looking through the forum that this is a common problem with all versions of money and if I want to use this feature I should look elsewhere (upgradde won't work).     - Problems openning Money documents from previous version (prior 200 I used Money 9X for many years then I stopped it. Now I have Money 2005 and Money can not open the files saved in prior versions I guess it is a problem of version and of language (the prior one was French or Spanish) as well.     - Reports Problem I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they have any work arounds: If I customize a report to show all transactions for a specific set of categories (deliberately chosen) then choose all types of transactions, I get ALL the transfers that are in the time period whether or not they are in the selected categories or not. I have to do select in come as type, then expense then transfers so I have three reports or I get ALL the transfers in the database that fall in the date range. Any suggestions? thanks, Brian W.     - "MoneySide Follow-up Notes" I'm using V2003. How can I get rid of a note in MoneySide? I have a note that I cannot get rid of. Each time that I delete the note a flag comes up that says MONEY cannot find the note, that it has been deleted by another process. But the Note still shows in the subject Notes.     - Display column widths I have just upgraded to MS Money Premium 2005, and all went very well. I have one minor problem, though. I like to open MS Money in Portfolio view, and grab a quick look at my stock figures. Unfortunatley the column widths are set such that the last column (Gain) is crowded off the screen to the right. I'm using a Sony Trinitron 19 inch monitor, so it seems there should be plenty of room for a full screen view. The News and Advisory columns seem to be much wider than they need to be. Is there any way to shrink these down a bit so the Gain column isn't off the screen? I know, I can scroll over and view the Gain column, but this is a problem, and I would like to dispense with it.     - M05 on 2 computers? I have 2005 Deluxe on my desktop computer and 2005 Standard on my laptop. I can't access the money file on the desktop computer hard drive from the laptop. It tells me the drive may eb write-protected and something else (I can't remember off the top of my head). The versions are different (14.0.80.1105 for Standard and 14.0.120.1105 for Deluxe), but I assumed that was because one was standard and one was Deluxe. Can you not do this with Money 2005?
