This might have something to do with the fact that I have updated to
Internet Explorer 7.

Several operations in MSMoney now give me a problem. For example, this
is what happens when I request Money's built-in monthly report. The
software does a lengthy computation and presents a progress meter.
After several seconds, a window pops up and asks me what to do with a
file moneygen.htm. The only two options are "find a program" and
"save." "Find a program" launches my web browser and points it to a
Microsoft web page that helpfully explains, a .htm file is for web
browsers. Great.

I have saved the file to my desktop and examined it. It simply points
to another file mrptmain.htm which I don't have, so it is useless.

In the mean time, Microsoft Money displays a pane that looks like
something out of Internet Explorer 7. The pane says "Navigation to the
webpage was canceled."

This problem also occurs each time I use MSMoney to make an online
payment. After I have made the payment, MSMoney tries to show me a web
page. It fails, with the above symtoms.

Is this a known problem? Should I re-install Money? If so, what about
the program updates I have already done? I recall MSMoney updating
itself at least once since I bought it. How would I induce MSMoney to
fetch this update again?

Thank you for any ideas.

There must be something else here, David -- I'm also using IE7 and can
generate monthly reports without a problem.

I have not read of it.

I would if I had the retail CD. If I downloaded, I would still
consider it.

Money will do it automatically if you connect to the internet and
your firewall does not interfere.

I found the root of this problem. In case anyone is interested, here it
is.

For some reason, very restrictive premissions were in effect for certain
of my registry keys under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. These keys included .html,
.htm, htmlfile, cssfile, and a few others. These restrictive permissions
made it impossible to reinstall Windows Internet Explorer 7.

I managed to delete all of these keys, and then I reinstalled Windows
Internet Explorer 7. Then I altered the permissions of the registry
keys.

After all that, my issue with Microsoft Money vanished.

I still don't know what is causing the permissions problem in the first
place. I use a software firewall and a resident antivirus program. I
also use three anti-spyware programs. Perhaps my issue was started by
one of these products.

Clearly, my issue was not started by Microsoft Money.

To the two kind people who offered suggestions: thank you!
