Bank reconciliation report
My earlier version of MM didn't have the ability to print
out a bank reconciliation after balancing my account. So,
I purchased MM 2005 hoping it had that ability. Seems it
doesn't. Anyone know if it's a feature or not; or how can
I print out a reconciliation report (like I do with
QuickBooks). Thanks. Tag: Print bank reconciliation Tag: 177671

Tax Withholding Estimator
I just have a quick question. Assuming that I have entered
all the tax information in Money 2004 correctly, is the
the Tax estimator generally pretty accurate in determing
how much withholding I should use? I'm curious as to
where Money gets it's information. Is it current
information based on 2004 tax year or 2003?
Thank you.

Syncing bills between Money '05 and MSN Money
I've setup Money 2005 to sync with MSN Money. Now all of my bills show up
on my MSN Money home page. I've been waiting for this a long time. When I
go to the Bills To-Do List, however, I can't make payments. The top of the
page says, "to setup up a bill to be paid online, click Set up to pay
online. If you have already paid a bill and want to remove the reminder,
click bill paid." There is no "Set up to pay online" item to click or a
"Bill paid" item to click. When I go to the payment center, I can't even
see my bill list. What am I missing?
What I want to do is go to the bill list, select a bill and click something
that pays the bill, updates my bill list and records the payment in the
correct account. Is this possible? Tag: Print bank reconciliation Tag: 177641

Money 2005 will not load
Hi, I have just purchased a useless piece of software, Money 2005.
I am upgrading from 2001, in order that I can use it on my Pocket PC.
It will not load, it has removed 2001 and on completion of loading 2005, an
error message tells me to load again, I do and again and again.
I am running XP Home, all programs have been closed down before loading M
2005.
After some time I managed to log onto the UK support page, Money 2005 does
not exist!!! It is not listed.
It asked me for the PID and told me how to get it by running the program,
useless information if the program will not load.
Nothing in txt or pdf files to help me!
Very bad support, I expect the program was rushed out before the support was
ready.
Can someone explain how I can get the program to load or get my cash back,
purchased through Amazon UK.

Open Letter: I'm skipping M05
After running a copy of M05 Deluxe on my laptop and doing parallel data
entry in M04 on my desktop and M05 on the laptop since the 17th of
September, I have decided to exercise the 30DMBG and skip M05.
Here's my "brief statement" for the product returns folks:
---------------
Money 2005 provides no significant new features of use to me, increases
dependency on the Internet needlessly and surreptitiously, introduces new
defects, fixes few of the old defects, includes several annoying arbitrary
changes, modifies my data file silently, and appears to be a vehicle
tailored more to deliver advertising than to provide a useful tool for
financial management to users. It is only the second Money upgrade I have
ever passed on.
---------------
In the tradition of a Donald Rumsfeld press conference, I offer some
associated Q and A:
What does this mean for your UFAQ? I will continue to support versions of
Money prior to M05 and will, as time and energy permit, update answers where
appropriate for M05 differences. I will also likely add a dedicated page
with my thoughts on M05 and a disclaimer that the UFAQ may be of limited
utility to M05 users. Several Q&A will be added to a new category "Complaint
Department: Money 2005". I will also change my submissions policy for
M05-specific questions: I will carry only very limited M05-specific content.
I see no reason to subsidize the Money product group. By all means, open
those support cases. They deserve it.
What annoys you the most about M05? Microsoft appears to be abandoning any
pretense of supporting the users who just wants to manage their finances
without all of the network dependency. That narrowly beat out my tremendous
dislike of the latest dumbing-down of the UI: more busy-ness, more needless
mingling of user interface metaphors, the nightmare that used to be
Tools|Options, the XXXX1234 account number stupidity in Account List, the
random walk of what click opens a browser and what opens web content in
Money and so on. Oh, and the stupid thing can't even display its relatively
useless on-line help without being, well, on-line. That'd probably be in
third place.
But you don't use most of the network stuff, so what if it's there? Some of
it can't be avoided. Money updates the quotes every time I start it even
though I've set the setting telling it not to. On-line help really is. After
two weeks I had generally learned how to avoid all of the intermingled MSN
content and the ads, but not entirely.
Assuming Money continues on this trend, what will you do going forward?
Well, I've thought about that a lot. Conversion to Quicken is one
possibility, but I didn't start using Money because I thought Quicken was a
better product. By all accounts, Quicken has its own share of issues and
lots of what's annoying about M05 is just Microsoft chasing Quicken down the
sewer pipe. I guess the worst case is that I'm stuck on M04 for quite some
time to come. What's the worst thing about that? Well, it's not like I'll
miss out on any bug fixes, that's for sure. At some point, the quotes will
stop. I suppose I can put them in by hand.
Seriously, there must be something you liked about M05, wasn't there? They
did fix the tax estimator mangled display problem finally. Beyond that,
three week later, I'm hard pressed to identify anything I found improved for
my use. That would be merely annoying were it not for the tremendous number
of things about it that I find distasteful. I had hopes for the spending
average feature cited in the marketing blurbs--until I finally found what it
was they were talking about. I was nice not having to type in a product key
when installing. They finally removed the creepy "Billy Bob and MaryJo
Moneyuser's Home Page" stuff.
Surely they must have incorporated something off your wish list? Nope. Not a
thing.
What were the annoying arbitrary changes you didn't like? #1 is removing the
dual category list option. #2 is the way they changed the 401k Account
Update to factor in post-dated transactions already in the register. I was
also very annoyed that M05 upgrade elected to mangle my pre-existing
categories. That's the first time a Money upgrade has ever done that. It was
easy enough to undo, but why should I have to? Though it doesn't affect my
use, I thought the addition of Credit Card Payments/Transfer as an Expense
category just to confuse the meaning and use of the existing Credit Card
Payment and Transfer Special Categories was brain-damaged at best. New users
have enough trouble understanding the existing ones--so Microsoft added the
new one to further confuse them? What were they thinking?
What would you recommend to people considering an upgrade to M05? Unless the
most important thing to you is consolidating the view of your on-line
accounts or adding on-line access to institutions not previously accessible
from Money that Yodlee knows how to break into, I'd recommend skipping it.
For an experienced user, it just doesn't add anything else and it adds what
it does at considerable cost in a further burdened UI, removal of other
features, and on-line dependence for things as basic as access to
on-line--now literally--help.
Can you recommend M05 to new users? No. M05 tries hard to convince them to
do things against their interest. It is trying to hasten transition to a
business model where their data is not theirs alone and the whole reason for
the product is to vector advertising and marketing to them. Things like the
"file sharing" that isn't just seem to have been developed, marketed, and
presented in ways to mask the dependence on MSN Internet servers and the
extent to which Microsoft is asking you to trust them with your data. It
foists a model where Microsoft, MSN, the banks and Yodlee control how you
manage your finances far more than you do. (I refer to things like the
all-or-nothing connectivity model, the enforced deletion of existing data
just to sync up, the whole duplicate account mess and so on.) This is a
complete reversal from the original Money product. Maybe it is a model that
has its place for some users--virtually all of whom haven't adopted Money or
Quicken already. But Microsoft shouldn't be trying to hide their intentions
and they should offer an alternate model for people who don't buy into their
vision. Yes, the alternate model is still there, more or less. No, they
aren't making it accessible and they are trying very hard to make is appear
that there really is no other way to use the product than their new way. If
all a user wants is to "Stop typing!" and have "The effortless way" to
manage their personal finances, they'd be better off to just skip worrying
about it entirely.
Isn't this just a protest vote? There is some component of that. I'll admit
it. But I'm not interested in personal financial management just so
Microsoft can better target marketing in my direction. Nor, I dare say, are
most other users. If we just roll over and take this, that's what we're
headed for: just being targets for marketing, not software customers. I'm
also not interested in using some future version of Money that is nothing
more than a minimal value add, completely web-based, sold by subscription
model, MSN-oriented skin on something like Yodlee. More clearly than ever
before, that's where Microsoft wants to go.
Will this protest be effective? In the short haul, maybe a little. In the
long haul, probably not. Tag: Print bank reconciliation Tag: 177626
contact management
Why does Money only uses the WAB address book from OE
instead of at least having an option to use the Office
Outlook contacts instead? I would imagine that at least
the Money "Small Business" or Home and Business version
would do that. Is it possible and I am missing something?
I am not looking for a "work around" like exporting the
contacts from Outlook to a CSV file or any like that. I
am looking for "integration" between Money and Office
Outlook. Tag: Print bank reconciliation Tag: 177625
Deposits being entered as payment?
When money updates my checking account information
automatically (or if i do a manual update to retrieve
current checking account info) it enters ALL of the
transactions as PAYMENTS. Even the deposits! This of
course throws my balance way out of whack. I manually
change the payments to deposits but I shouldn't have to
do this.
Does anyone know why my deposits are not being recognized
as such by Money 2005 and are instead showing up as
payments?

Wrong Payee on downloaded statement
I've researched this topic in this group and this topic seems to come
up frequently. Most solutions talk about matching the wrong
transaction. My problem is subtly different. When I click "change" on
the suspect transaction, MS claims that this transaction is unmatched.
The funny thing is, the payee listed in the register ("Billy") is
different than the payee shown on the "change" screen (the screen you
go to when you select "change.") On the "change" screen, MS claims
that this transaction (payee is "Bob") is not matched!! I then click
cancel and the payee on the register is back to "Billy" Why is MS
changing the payee on a transaction that is unmatched? Please advise.

Money 2005 sinks downunder
I have just retro-fitted back to Money 2004 after
purchasing and installing Money 2005, which turned out to
be a terrible product.
My first issue is that the conversion process from 2004
to 2005 format failed to convert 17 "payslip"
transactions (out of several thousand), which took me
hours to reconcile. These transactions just ceased to
exist in 2005, so I had to uninstall it, re-install 2004,
export all account transactions, from accounts that
didn't balance, into CSV files. Uninstall 2004, re-
install 2005 and extract the same accounts, then spend
the next few hours sorting through them.
Tonight I have downloaded my bank transactions from the
ANZ bank, only to find the OFC file is no longer
supported in Money 2005! My bank doesn't provide OFX
files, so my options are to no longer download and
reconcile transaction or return to Money 2004.
I have been a long, long term Money user - dating back to
1991 with Money 1.0 (which I brought back from the USA
with me) and have experienced the product short comings
over the years when new versions were released. Despite
there having been several set backs along the way, I have
always attempted to remain current and adjust to the new
version. Until now, the product split in 2000 was
probably the most annoying, from then on only the lowest
level, "Standard" product being available in the
Australian market.
Although I have to say, this is worse! For anyone that
downloads transactions, this product ceases to be a
viable home accounting package.
There are also a number of cosmetic issues with this
version. The prefix of AU$ in front of every number is
pathetic! Being driven to a US site for share info pages
which don't default to the AU: share prefix is also crazy
and the dysfunctional attempt to use .NET profiles to
hold portfolio details for internet accessibility, when
the service isn't available is just another frustration.
Unless there is a 2005 SP1 released to address these
fundamentals, then I have to say you have let Quicken
beat you. I certainly am very dissapointed to say I'll
be switching in the very near future and only because you
leave me no choice.
Until then, I have gone back to Money 2004. Tag: Print bank reconciliation Tag: 177613

How to watch investments?
I've entered VIX as a mutual fund in my "investments" account. I don't have
an "Investments to watch", as the MS Money help suggest. I've added 0
shares of VIX because I don't own it. I've updated my investments but VIX
is still 0. I've also tried adding one share but get the same results. All
of my purchased investments are updating.
I'm running MS Money Small Business 2004. Any suggestions why VIX is not
updating?

Anyone from MS here?
With a product with so many problems (and I encountered
my share when installing MNY 2005 with 2003 on the
computer), are there any Microsoft employees who work on
the Money team/product assisting their customers?
Will there be a Service Pack soon?
When I installed Money 2005, there was an update. But the
program is still buggy. I had stuff happening (like
CRASHES) that never happened on Money 2003.
It appears to me that Microsoft decided to launch this
program without it having enough quality in order to hit
the market in time for the fiscal year (which is not that
far from now).
All in all, I like the new UI. But that's about it... I'm
somewhat disappointed both with the bugs and the lack of
support from Microsoft in these newsgroups helping people
out.

I have MM 2002. After balancing my checking account and thereby

2005 and MSN Money
Here is a dumb guy kind of question. I use Morgan Stanley, and I was
very interested in 2005 to be able to get the transactions
electronically, just as Quicken has been able to do, or at least that
is what I understood from the Microsoft website. Now that I have the
program, it appears that the application can't do it, but MSN Money
can get the data via Yodlee, and that I can sync the data into 2005
with MSN Money (but haven't done it quite yet). Was this the intent?
If so, couldn't one have built the application to make that leap
instead of a two step?

Money 2005 always crashes (wininet.dll error)
PLEASE HELP

of all it is not compatible with money 2003 which I find

If I try to sign in using my normal internet access, I am

So...
IF I say "work offline", The program goes to the first

I am unable to do anything in the program before this
happens. Does anyone have any ideas?
If I am unable to resolve this how can I get a refund?

Issue - Money automatically marks download entries as Reconciled
I changed from Quicken to Money Deluxe 2004 and, initially,
encountered some difficulties that I attributed to the
transition learning curve. Later on, I realized that I did
myself an injustice because through careful trial and error I
concluded that the difficulties were ridiculous bugs in the
software.
The most annoying was the impulsive decision of Money to
all-of-a-sudden start recognizing downloaded entries as
reconciled, despite any instructions from me to do so. The
problem was insoluble and I had to altogether abandon monthly
reconciliations. This month (October, 2004), I upgraded to
Money 2005 Premium in the hope that Microsoft had fixed the
glitch, but that was wishful thinking.
Moreover, when I searched the last six months of postings to
this newsgroup, I learned that this fucking problem has been
around for several years and that nothing has been done about
it, except for the lip service being paid to it by the regular
Microsoft fart catchers that offer their geek responses to the
posters. Even worse, I cannot believe the litany of bugs that
users are encountering and to which there has been no
responsible response by Microsoft - no patches, no download
upgrades and, in some cases, not even a recognition that the
bug exists.
For me, returning the product is an unsatisfying step in lieu
of the stress and inconvenience with which I have been
assaulted. I cannot believe that so many people can be so
accepting of the sadistic, deliberate and criminal
incompetence of a corporation that is clearly no better than
Enron in its attitude toward its clients.

Money 2005 abandoned
I'm done with Money 2005. The sync with msn never worked
correctly. After specifically setting money to not
auto-reconcile on bank download, money auto-reconciled.
When money didn't guesstimate the number of share on a
month purchase of a stock, I'd had enough.
This is suppose to make money management easier. Frankly,
Quicken 2004 and 2005 is far easier than this. It took me
2+ hours to get manually enter my transactions in quicken
and ensure it was whole. Time well spent.
I was willing to try Money and now I know - it can't carry
Quicken's lunch.
By the way, in Quicken 2005, they did do away with QIF
support, but I checked my banks and they didn't use it.
Even if they did, I still would have returned.
Best of luck to you all who stick with Money 2005. Tag: Print bank reconciliation Tag: 177568

Over the years I have not updated Mney 99. This summer I
purchased a new Dell and attempted to install Money(from
the old CD). The backround is there but I keep getting a
message saying Money has encountered a problem and must
close.
The issue is further complicated by the fact that backup
on the other computer was per floppy. I have no floppy
drive on the new computer.
If I buy Money 2005 will I then be able to transfer the
data? Supposedly the tech who set up my computer has the
data on the new computer - I just can't access.

Deposits page, it doesn't put the tilde (~) to show it is
an estimate. It's annoying because I can't tell what is
a true amount and what is an estimate. In the Money
Express box, it does put the ~ on the estimated amounts,
so I don't understand why it doesn't work in Money. (I
have checked the box that says this is an estimate when I
enter the amount.) Does anyone know why the ~ won't show
when my amount is an estimate? Tag: Print bank reconciliation Tag: 177546
duplicate entries in my budget
Can someone please help? If I start my budget off from a
fresh install of MS Money, it works fine...for a month or
two. Then, all of a sudden, my income is tweaked
(somehow, it ends up being doubled or tripled), and some -
but not all - of the recurring bills that I have entered
go thru the same thing.
Please. Help. Tag: Print bank reconciliation Tag: 177544
Money 2004 Cash Flow Review
I am trying to get to the cash flow review section of
money 2004. I click on accounts & Bills/Cash Flow review
and i get a message saying to create a checking, savings,
or cash account before you go to the cash flow forecast.
I have numerous accounts set up in money including a
checking and a savings. Anyone know how to solve this
problem. It will not let me view the cash flow forecast.
Thanks Tag: Print bank reconciliation Tag: 177543
Re: Problem with Money 2001 after reinstalling
Also, did you check the condition of your installation disk for MS Money
2001. Is it's condition compromised. Do you have a HD backup and a
floppy backup you can restore your file from? Are you certain your new HDD
is being properly recognized by your OS and your BIOS?
