    - Self Employed - Gross Pay(?) I don't have a buiness per-se, but I am self employed. I do not advertise, I'm not generally for hire, I don't have a business card. I do participate as an associate of an LLC, but I am not officially a part of that company. I do have a few people that I work for. I do a schedule C and pay my own taxes. I'm not sure how to setup my Income, the only option seems to be, Salary - Gross Pay I'm tempted to use either Other Income or Periodic Income, but I don't know which of the three would be best.     - Unable to connect to quotes server Over the last few weeks, more and more often the update prices option in my portfolio fails as "unable to connect to quotes server". Now it always fails. I've run msmoney -s as a clean up measure. I've attempted to download the latest Money ActiveX controls (as instructed in a forum) but that always fails part way through (typically between 80 and 90%)and claims "Internet connection lost" - which it isn't.     - Savings balance error in Monthly Report I don't ususally run the monthly reports, but I did this month and noticed that Money was reporting that I have $158,388.62 in my Savings Account (which it claims earns 5.5%). This is under the heading of "Invest in your Debt". It is of course advising me to use some of that to pay down my current debt. As much as I wish this balance were correct, it ain't.     - INVESTMENT: 0 quantity, 1 cent value? Help: I had two 401(k) mutual fund investments that I contributed to over a great deal of time. Recently I sold the entire positions of both and bought different funds. Now, for these two investments, the reports section of Money 02 is showing 0 quantity, but 1 cent value for each. As a result, I cannot delete these two investments from my investments list, as it says I still have positions in them.     - duplicate wage entries I am DEFINITELY not a guru at this. 1. Somehow I ended up with two entries in my budget for my paycheck. However, MS Money only allows me to delete the category, and not the duplicate. If I delete the category and reinitialize it, how will that affect the existing entries in my Accounts? 2. My home page shows bill that are overdue. However, the are entered into my Accounts. Is there a way to cleanly associate those entries with the corresponding bill that is due?     - Cannot view unaccepted transactions I have Money 2004 Deluxe. I have had Money since version 98 and I have upgraded every year. I am used to downloading transactions from my online accounts on a daily basis and then reviewing the new items. I can no longer see the unaccepted transactions in any of my Money accounts while Money's Accounts view shows there are items to review.     - Employer Matching Acctg I cannot seem to get my employer's 401K match to go to the right acct. I have the acct set up as a retirement acct with the employer matching box checked. But when setting up the employer matching category my choices of accts to send the money doesn't include the acct where the money goes.     - Converting Mutual Fund Acct To Brokerage Acct at Fidelity I changed the my wife's IRA at Fidelity from a mutual fund account which holds only mutual funds and cash to a brokerage account which also holds stocks, bonds, etc. Fidelity handles the conversion by creating a new brokerage account, transferring assets from the the mutual fund account account into it, and then closing out the old account. If I handle it the same way in M04, what happens to the historical transaction data? Does it transfer over to the new account or stay with the closed brokerage account? -- That is all. A little while back, I was browsing through newsgroups and came across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of 6.00 So I thought, "Yeah right, this must be a scam", but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading.     - corrupt file or not a money back up file I know that this has been posted before, but never saw any where the issue was resolved and how it was resolved. I have three sets of back up money files that all give the same error. I had to reload money when my computer crashed. I get the error after I click on *d1.mbf and then hit ok after inserting the second disk. It states that d1.mbf is corrupt or is not a money backup file. I also tried this from the hardrive.     - Passport sign-in unsuccessful SOLUTION!!! ok, i was getting the sign-in unsuccessful error that many money users seem to be having. after doing an extensive search here on google groups and did all suggested solutions it still wasn't working - so what i did was to go to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\ and delete the Money folder with all its subfolders (there was \12.0\something with xml files in them). after that passport sign-in worked like a charm. hope this helps anyone who has the problem Tag: Portfolio Review-Performance Section Tag: 160476

    - Money Delux & Buisness 2003 The above is installed on an ME system. Clicking Money's shortcut results in the following message:- "Installation of the money system pack was not successful. please install it manually by double clicking the syspack.msi on your original product CD." Followed by a registration prompt (it seemingly appears every time). Attempting to open a QIF results in the message:- "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options Control Panel." In an effort to resolve the issue, the chap attempted to uninstall but was unable to do so as:- "This action only valid for products that are currently installed." The problems seemingly began after an online virus scan "cleaned" some infected files - name of virus and name of "cleaned" files are unknown.     - understanding out of budget accounts and into budget accounts O.K. from reading a lot of posts, it seems like a good understanding of what budget accounts are is needed for a lot of us. Personally, I don't understand why there are the lines, transfers into budget accounts and transfers out of budget accounts in the first place. I just want my budget to tell me to what degree my spending is converting income dollars to capital dollars not how much money has moved around this month in all my accounts. The most I would want would be an FYI telling me that some of my money is no longer in an account that I am tracking with my budget. Especially bad is that these transfers are counted as total expenses at the top line, which has confused me and a lot of posters. However, I have faith in the Microsoft developers that they have thought about this and it is my lack of understanding that is the problem here. With that in mind, I set up some dummy accounts and here is what I found: Key: Out = Transfers out of budget accounts In = Transfers into budget accounts Transfer from Budget Checking to 'Non-Budget' Checking = In Transfer from Non-Budget checking to Budget checking = Out (This makes sense.) From Retirement account (can't seem to change budget settings on this one) to Budget Investment account = In (so this must mean that a retirement account can not be a budget account) From Investment Budget Account to Budget Checking Account = In (this isn't into budget accounts, it is between two of them, it's not in the 'out of budget accounts line'. why can't this be listed as income?) Sale from Investment Non Budget Account to Non Budget Checking account: Not listed This is starting to make sense . . . but there is still an ominous cloud of confusion that hangs over all of this for me (and I suspect many others.) Is there a definitive way to understand all of this. Perhaps, there is a Microsoft white paper on Money's budget model and a comprehensive description of what is going on here. The included help file has too many top level things that don't get to the meat of what is going on under the hood and how to manage a complex budget.     - Reclassify a mutual fund investment I made the mistake of classifying a bond mutual fund as a bond investment when I initially purchased it two years ago. Therefore, money multiplies the price of the fund by 100 as if it were a bond. It has screwed up all my cost basis info. I want to go back to the date of the original purchase (Aug, 2001) and recategorize the investment as the purchase of a mutual fund.     - "Update Prices Online" works about 1 time in 100 I have 2004 Deluxe. It's the 3rd version I've had. The "update prices online" has always been unreliable, but the last couple weeks it almost never works. I get the "unable to connect to the quotes server" message. The Money Updates part of the process always works, so Money is able to use my internet connection. I've seen posts here about problems with the service MS uses for quotes.     - calendar question Spouse gets paid (the major paycheck) on the 20th and me on the 1st. So the "month" we work from expensewise is the 20th to the 20th. When we get the 20th paycheck we begin to pay a lot of bills (even if they are not due until the 10th or 15th of the following month), and then the final ones after the 1st. The Calendar only operates on a regular calendar system. I wanted my calendar to have the expense on the due date (according to the company), but then when I pay it too early MSMoney doesn't know to cross it off of the calendar as paid. Any suggestions?     - Budgeting with 401k Disabled In my money file (MS Money 04, Windows XP) I have added two 401k accounts and an asset account. All of the transfers into these accounts showed up in my budget and created an inaccurate picture of my spending (I consider the budget to only track expenses as money that leaves my control and income as new money that comes into my control.) I know this could be solved by unchecking the "Include this account in the budget planner", but this button is disabled in the 401k accounts. Furthermore, this button doesn't even exist in my asset account. Does anybody know why this is and what I can do to fix this problem? I really want to understand budgeting in money and any help would be appreciated. Also, I manually excluded all contributions from the budget and this is a hack-workaround, but how do I reinstate them if I solve the first problem?     - Problems Entering a paycheck in 2004 I want to enter my paycheck...I go to Accounts and Bills, Bill and Deposits List. I click New, then Paycheck. I answer No (or Yes - doesn't seem to matter)to keeping track of Taxes. I come to the Create a recurring deposit Screen.     - importing into register I have successfully downloaded files from my bank into my checking account register. I have one account that that downloads my account info into a separate checking account, not the one I intend. I save the file then tried to import and it still imports into the other file.     - Adding a "unit" to the investment portion of my variable life insurance policy Hello Fellow Money User: I am attempting to track the investments made inside my variable universal life policy, the investment portion attached to the life insurance. It is an investment vehicle similar to an IRA but with certain tax benefits on the accumulating value . My investments within this policy (held wth American Express Financial Advisors) are not shares of stock in mutual funds traded with a symbol. Rather, they are "units" of fund families without symbols found on the exchanges. As a result, Money cannot find a symbol for it so it cannot be added and tracked. How does one get around being forced entering a symbol for the investment? I would like to track my investment value in Money but the requirment of a symbol has stymied me. Has anyone else encountered this frustrating aspect when working with investments in their portfolios? Any help would be appreciated. If any Money programmers are reading this, please consider that it would be cool if the value of this investment could also be updated automatically in the insurance planner.
