    - Override downloaded ticker symbol I download my portfolio from TD Waterhouse which I think uses the CUSIP symbol to represent options and not the .xxxxx symbol. I have a number of accounts and often I have the same option in both. Money always asks if this is the same equity or option as another one, lets me select it from the list, but it refuses to accept that I want to keep the existing symbol. It pops up that confusing Yes No Cancel dialog and just goes in circles. Any way to get around this?     - Import Smith Barney Excel.csv data I would like to import my Smith Barney statements to MS Money2003 via the SB, Portfolio, Download transactions method. When I did this, it created an Excel.cvs. When I went back to MSMoney, I could not figure out how to import the excel file data. It discusses imports of Quicken QIF or an OFC file, but does not mention .csv, or any other .extension choice that SB gave me -that I could see. Smith Barney says I can import the Excel file to Money, but they refuse to tell me how once I have created the file from their website. I do not want to use the SB $3monthly automatic method.     - Money 2005---wait awhile I have upgraded Money several times over the years, and might again from 2004 to 2005. However, I have been REALLY stupid in doing it. I also use TaxCut every year. If you wait until Tax Cut comes out (late in 2004) you nearly always get a coupon for a huge discount (or free) Money. The last couple years, Money 2004 and Money 2003 Standard was "free" with the mail in thing. Deluxe was something like $20 off. I am only pointing this out to my fellow Money users, so you don't waste money unless you HAVE to have the new version right away. Also, never buy TaxCut from H.R. Block. It's a huge rip-off. Getting the rebate was a pain (did this twice), delivery was slow and I had to pay shipping. Buy it at Staples---got there the same day H.R.Block started to ship, was cheaper, had a rebate and delivery took only as long as the car ride home. The only advantage of buying direct from H.R.     - Money 2003 -> 2005 Upgrade When I upgraded to M05 from M03, I thought it was going to be flawless. Yeah, right. I synched with my banks, and M05 created new accounts. I tried to use the Merge Accounts "feature", but neither my original account or the newly created account were in there. I had to remove online services from both accounts, delete the newly created account, re-add online account access, and re-synch with the bank. This created another newly created account, but this time the accounts were listed in the merge account "feature". What a pain in my ASS!     - MS Money XML Report Format Does anyone know where I can find a formal description of the XML report format Microsoft Money uses when you save a report as XML? I am thinking of an XML Schema or DTD, but a textual description would be good (or possibly even better) as well. I have had a look at a few examples from my own Money file and it doesn't look too complex. But as I want to parse these files in my own program, I would like to understand all the possible permutations and combinations which could be produced under a whole range of circumstances.     - Initial REaction to 2005 Yuck. Ok, it isn't that bad though I cannot find a thing yet. It made me change my password to my bank before it would update (download in 2005 speak) and wouldn't update Morgan Keegan last night. This morning it wouldn't update Morgan Keegan or Fidelity. And it scares you to death with rows and rows of error messages though it seems just not to connect. It updates faster and maybe doesn't try as many times. I don't know.     - Money 2005 won't let me pay my credit card bill I have my credit card setup as an account in Money 2005 as well as my bank account which is linked to msn bill pay. When I attempt make an online payment to my credit card company Money insists on transferring funds between accounts and will not let me submit a payment request via msn bill pay.     - SP2 Issue on Sharing a Money 2005 File One of the features I was interesting in with Money 2005 was the ability to share the file with another .NET Passport. I can't make this work. First Microsoft Technical support confirmed that having Windows XP SP2 installed causes a problem - I would just get the rotating arrow and no box to enter the 2nd .NET Passport. I then installed Money on 2 different machines with Windows XP SP1, and tried again, even starting with a brand new Money file and new .NET Passports. I was able to go further, but after inputing the 2nd .NET Passport, then being asked to sign in, I got that same stupid rotating arrow that never went away, no timeout, no cancel button. I have given up and have gone back to Money 2004 because there is not enough in Money 2005 considering what I give up. I would think Microsoft would be embarrased to release a new product that has an issue with SP2, AFTER SP2 was released. Has anyone been sucessful to use this new feature in Money 2005?     - Why the large YLPGSCAT.DAT? I'm trying to set up a backup regime on my PC (W2K) and so am having a look at files on my system. I have MS Money 2003 installed and it has created a file "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Money\11.0\Webcache\ylpgscat.dat" that takes up 11MB. Why is it there? I don't know if there is a requirement for Webcaching that requires me to have this file. Is there a list (anywhere) that contains file listings saying what a file is and giving information on whether it is useful or not? Wouldn't it be a great idea if we could pool our resources and experiences and produce a document of that sort? (idealistic, I know... but I'm relatively new to this game). Anyone with any ideas?     - Money 2001 Std vs 2004 or 2005 Hi, I'm considering upgrading from Money 2001 Std. to either 2004 or 2005 and interested in your experience/opinions. Is mostly to keep my software current as Money 2001 is robust enough for my needs, though I worry that eventually the banks will only accept software that is just a couple of years old. Interested in any major improvements to newer versions and especially in any drawbacks having to do with removal or replacement of features. About the only bad behavior I encounter in Money 2001 is when it labels transactions imported on bank statements after previous transactions having nothing to do with the current one. For instance... If I charge record a check for $60 and make it payable to Bank #1, Money sometimes labels a whole bunch of transactions the same way. Doesn't even have to be similar names or amounts. Sometimes its just too "intuitive" for its own good. Is minor annoyance, but still out there. One major concern I have about newer versions is "too much security". Let me explain: I am running multiple copies of my WIN XP Pro OS on multiple hard drives within the same computer. These are perfectly legal clones of the OS on the first hard drive and its just one of those redundancy (or paranoia) things I tend to do. I normally install applications to anything but "C" drive, but of course they still place lines in the Windows registry. When I installed Money 2001 I encountered a situation where the program generated a unique license or ID number for each installation, thereby interfering with my system or method of installing from or onto each operating system partition, but having all of the OS's share one instance of the application's files (i.e. Winxp 1 on disk 0 and Winxp 2 on disk 1 which are both "C" partitions, actually used the Money Installation on a logical drive "E" for instance). I found a work around and exported the registry branch for Money 2001 from one XP OS's partition and imported to both of the others after logging onto them. It worked and I have had no operational problems since. However....Does anyone use a setup at least remotely similar to mine, and if so, were you able to access Money from the first OS Partition on which you installed it after having added it to another OS Partition within your system? If I'm not able to install Money on each partition as described above, I may as well stick with old version. Thanks for any ideas/input/feedback.     - Unable to retrieve back up from USB drive I had my money 2003 backup file on a USB drive. Had to reformat the hard drive and re-install money. Now I am unable to restore my data from the USB drive. After opening Money, attempting to restore from back up, i get the error, "cannot locate C:\documents and settings\my documents\my money or cannot open it, possibly because it is a read only file or you do not have permission to change it or your disk drive is write protected." any ideas why it will not allow me to do this?     - Money Deluxe 2004 trial upgrade problems I downloaded the trial for deluxe a couple of months ago and recently, through money, upgraded to the real version for $42.50. They gave me a number which i stupidly didn't write down. Then something downloaded onto my computer and the "trial version" seemed to go away.     - Massive Random Upgrade Corruption in Money 2005 In going from Money 2004 to 2005 I am getting random corruption. I have done the upgrade multiple times and get different results each time. There are three main problems that I have been able to identify already. 1. Opening Balances on accounts reset to 0. 2. Upcoming bills duplicated up to 10 times. 3. Categories duplicated up to 5 times. All 3 problems can be time consumingly repaired manually. However I have a fear of the problems I don't see. Also it really scares me that it changes everytime I do the upgrade. I have been using Money since '97 and have had little problems with online downloads and logins.     - just broke down and bought it... Alright--with all of the craziness going on here, I decided to buy 2005 deluxe. I may get shot for this: but, I like it. Everything converted just fine. A couple of points: 1. I ran the Standard Error Checker on the .mny file to ensure it was clean. 2. I made a backup copy (and another just in case!) 3. I installed 2005; however, I created a new .mny file FIRST instead of letting it do the conversion without doing the updates. 4. I let the updates download and install; then, I converted the file. LASTLY: When I downloaded my c/c accounts I did get a DUPLICATE. WHY? It is the OTHER credit card in my wife's name. All I did was "close" the account and it went away. Good luck folks.     - Money 2005 Small Business - Custom Invoices gone after upgrade from 2k4? I upgraded from Money 2k4 Small Business (SB) to Money 2k5 SB last week - and my custom invoice is gone! I've seen some other posts on this but nothing definitive (yes, I'ver searched first; TechNet too.) Fortunately, I said a copy of the invoices to a .INV file (when I had the portrait/landscape fiasco in 2k4). SO, I go into Money Invoice Designer and import it. Comes in fine, and I see my invoice - but when I save it an exit, the invoice STILL isn't there. In Money, I tried to import the .INV file, and I get an error saying it can't import items made before 2002 - wtf? Do we have a definitive answer on this? I use Money SB to actually BILL my clients and I can't without my invoice. Well, I suppose I *can* using a generic/default invoice...but c'mon, how professional is THAT going to look?     - Unable to set-up on-line accounts Just in case others are having this problem. I purchased MS 2005 Deluxe two weeks ago and just installed this past weekend. Totally frustrated. I was unable to setup on- line accounts so that I can download by banking information. I kept getting error message "unable to process try again later" . I called Microsoft support and they indicated that this is a known bug and there will be an update either today or tomorrow (9/28).     - Money 2005 Small Biz Edition I am having a problem with the small biz edition of Money 2005. I am not that familiar with the product so hopefully this will be an easy fix, but according to all the Microsfot directions, I am doing everything correctly. I want to create a custom invoice for my company, so I used the invoice designer and saved it to where ever it defaults to. OnceI did that, I put all the appropriate customer info in, and created the invoice. I went to print it, and it did not have my custom invoice as a selection possibility, nor was there an option to locate the template. If I do a step by step according to the directions according to Microsofts directions, I am doing everything correctly. Is there something I might be missing or have forgotten to do?     - Comments on Microsoft Money 2005 Premium Since 1998, I've been a Microsoft Money user. Over the years, I've upgraded my version a few times. However for the last two years, I've used MS Money 2003 Deluxe. I decided to pass on MS Money 2004, and I purchased Money 2005 Premium on Friday. For the last couple of months, I was curious about the new features of the product, and read these news groups for some clues. So now that I've used the product myself, I figure that I'll pass along my thoughts: MS Money 2005 is only slighly better than MS Money 2003. In earnest, I found very few differences between the two programs. The home page provides mostly the same information. The tabs on top were also the same: Accounts, Bills, Portfolio, etc. The general interface has not changed at all. However there were some new features that I liked, and some features that they have not improved upon which was disappointing. Keep in mind that some of these updates may have been done in the 2004 version. I recognize this. Here are my two bis: 1) The best improvement in the product is the ability to track up to three specific budget categories for overages. This appears on the home page. For me there are plenty of budget categories that stay the same each month (i.e. rent, cable, etc.), but there are those that change (i.e. food: groceries, food: dining out, etc.). Being able to easily track these categories is a benefit. However, why did Microsoft limit the number of categories to 3? Hopefully in 2006, MS will allow users to track an unlimited number? 2) I think that the ability to use MS Money 2005 online is good. It is a great improvement over the www.moneycentral.com feature in MS Money 2003 which never really worked. The new feature appears to give you better access to your accounts. HOWEVER, in the overall scope of things, this feature is not that useful. I use yodlee.com to access my accounts online, and that yodlee website is so great that I cannot see myself using moneycentral online. The yodlee.com website can give you the most updated information on your accounts. Yodlee.com also has access to more accounts. [I discuss this issue below in greater deatil]. **** ALERT: I had problems updating from Money 2003 to 2005. Two years ago, I tried using the moneycentral functionality with 2003. I quickly realized that moneycentral was not that great, and abandoned the accounts online. When I booted Money 2005 for the first time, the program synced with moneycentral, and uploaded old account information from moneycentral into Money 2005. It was a problem because these old accounts had the same names as some of my current accounts. I was nervious erasing these old accounts because I didn't want to accidently erase my current accounts. 3) PROBLEM: After upgrading from 2003 to 2005, I found that a lot of my investment accounts were no longer balanced. It seems that all of my sales were being recorded as expenses. The cash accounts for these investment accounts now had huge negative balances. Here was my solution: I went to each of the sale transactions on the investment account, and I toggled the "transfer to" account from the correct cash account to a different cash account and then back to the correct cash account. This fixed the problem. However it took about an hour to fix, and was frustrating. 4) I've read about people complaining about the speed of Money 2005. I find the program to be no slower or faster than 2003. 5) Here's something that's frustrating. Www.yodlee.com is able to scrub a user's financial websites and pull off information. I don't understand why MS Money can't use the same technology to pull information from banks and investment houses that are not compatible with MS Money, but still have online services. Microsoft says they incorporate yodlee in their product, but obviously they are not using some of yodlee's best features. It's really fustrating to have to do any type of manual input into the program. 6) Lastly, this is not a knock on 2005 Premium, but on the these types of programs in general. The planning functions are rather simplistic, and cannot take into account the specifics that a user needs to make the planner useful for one's own case. For instance with the budget planner, it's really annoying that the program will disribute over twelve months a one-time expected expense or receipt. This just throws off the entire budget. The long term planner is absolutely ridiculous because no one can make these kind of assumptions thirty years into the future. 7) On a postive note, the program seems to do a better job at the investment performance chart (this is found on the monthly reports page). In the 2003 version, the chart was never accurate. At least for my accounts. Again overall, I found the 2005 Premium program to be almost identical to the 2003 Deluxe program. The program has no new programs. It only carries over some of the old ones. However, as an avid user of MS Money. I thought it was worth the money. In fact, I purchased it from Microsoft, and here's the deal I got. It cost me about $85 (tax and shipping included), but I got the $30 rebate from MS, and a $9.99 from Money magazine. If you read the fine print, you can get a rebate instead of actually subscribing. I also got $10 off my next Microsoft purchase as long as it's before November 30, 2004. is mixes names of my Mutual Funds with names of my
Stocks. Any Ideas from anyone?

You might try displaying the Type header to display how those
securities are defined.

You can check the investment details on the securities to see if
some stocks are defined as funds or vice versa.
