What is the trick to have the software do a simple market value - Market
cost to equal gain? I have bought and sold a stock and I thinkl the
software is keeping track of past investments. For example, lets sat my
current stock market value say is $1000 and cost is $800. My gain comes out
to be something like $2474. Anyone have a solution.? I hate this.

It's your choice of "what to display". I went thru that too: it's their
terminology.
Edit your column settings:
There is "realized Gain", which is cumulative. Remove that from display
'Price Appreciation' is what you want to display. That is for the current
shares.
