    - Account # in a liability transaction I opened up a liability account. I have several bills come in with different account #'s, I'm consolidating all those particular Bills into this one liability account, I would like to track these Bills within the account by the account #, I would normally just put the account # in the slot were the check # would go in Quicken when I used it, and then I could sort that account by the "check number" .     - Money 2003 freezes when pull downs are selected! I installed Money 2003 back in January. Ever since that install I have had problems with the application freezing every time I select a pull-down menu - for example if I try to split a transaction between multiple categories and try to use the pull down to select the category the application freezes. To restore the application, and I have to Crtl-Alt-Delete to close the application. Once I close the application I can restart it without rebooting the computer. I have tried reinstalling the application a couple of times, and have routinely update using Money's internet update feature. I have also tried to find answers using the MS Knowledge Base, but can't find anything applicable in the knowledge base. I have tried loading the sample file that came with Money and it locks in exactly the same way. This would seem to indicate that the software is corrupted. I recently did a clean install of Money as per the knowledge base to clear up an issue with OFX downloads, and that problem was resolved - so I feel that my install is pretty solid. I have been using MS Money since 1996 and have generally been happy with the application, but am wondering if I should simply move to a simpler, after market application Thanks for your assistance!     - Entering mutiple bills and deposits I have money 2001 and am able to enter multiple bills and deposits in in the bill and deposit screen. Tried to upgrade to 2002 and found out that you couldn't do that with 2002. Can you do it with 2004. Basically highlight multiple transactions and press enter.     - Transferring Investment to New Account with Online Statements I have Microsoft Money Deluxe 2003 and am running on the Windows 98 operating system. I recently closed an investment account and transferred investments to a new investment account. Therefore, I've created a new investment account in Money and transferred investments to it. I had online statements set up on the old account and also on the new account. I am running into problems because there is one investment that has a slightly different name on the online statements in the new account than on the old account. When I go to read the new online statement a dialog box opens with the heading, "Money found the following investment in your brokerage statement:" and then lists the investment in question. I then have the option of choosing the matching investment from a drop-down box or adding the investment as a new investment. I would like to choose the first option to match the same investment (with a different name) to itself in the new account. However, it is not listed in the dropdown box.     - Need Report of Average Monthly Expenses Using Money 2002 Deluxe. I would like to see a report of an average of expenses per month for all categories / subcategories for a given period of time, such as last 12 months. It would be a short report. How much have I spent on average per month for the last 12 months on groceries, for example. I can't seem to figure out how to do that.     - Online Services First of all, please note that I changed "Michael" to "Michae1" in the e-mail line to try to foil spam. I'm trying to set up online services (to Schwab, Fidelity, etc.). I follow through the wizard, and enter my username and password. When I click "Next," it says it's trying to connect, and then gives me an error message that says (more or less) check your id and password and try again. I *know* I typed it correctly. I wonder whether it's adding an extra character, or perhaps sending things in CAPS. I say this, because I tried several times; when I gave up and tried to log into Schwab from my browser, I was told that I had 3 failed login attempts. So clearly, Money was able to get to Schwab's "front door." Downloading stock quotes works just fine. I'm running Money 2002 on Windows XP. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.     - 2003 online problems with US Bank I just upgraded from 2001 to 2003. My online connection with US Bank doesn't work now. Online services manager says: "US Bank has updated its online services. Follow these steps to download these updates into your file." When I click "accept" it downloads for a few seconds, then nothing happens, it still doesn;t work. US Bank support says it is not them.     - How do you unmark a transaction that is currently marked as "E" M2003 has some real difficulty reconciling downloaded transactions sometimes because it refuses to associate a newly downloaded transaction that corresponds to something that was downloaded earlier (and hence marked as E). This could be for various reasons e.g., glitches in the bank's download where the transaction is sent repeatedly, When I duplicate a previous transaction (to re-use it's splits) and change it's date, that duplicated transaction is also marked with E. When this is downloaded from the bank, M2003 refuses to allow me to associate the downloaded transaction to this duplicated transaction that is marked as E.     - Help! How to create "fake" accounts in Money? Here's my problem: I have a system of money management in which all income is split up and distributed into certain (fake) "accounts". (In reality, most of it is split up and distributed to an actual checking account and savings account.) Each of these fake accounts represent the balance that I have available to apply to certain aspects in life (e.g. bills/necessities, play, saving for spending, saving for investment, donations/tithing, education). So, for any actual deposit into my checking or savings account, I want to specify a certain amount OR percentage to go into each "fake" account. AND, when I spend money, I want to deduct it from the appropriate "fake" accounts as it is reconciled. I've thought of some possible solutions: (1) Actually create separate (real) checking/savings accounts for each fake account. Problem: too complicated, possibly unnecessary. (2) Create virtual accounts for these in Money, and virtually transfer the money back and forth between accounts. Problem: It doesn't reflect what's really happening. Other?? (3) Don't use accounts. Create "Super" categories that map all the existing categories to be under the new categories. For example, Health, Phone Bill, and Water Bill would all fall under Necessities. This way I could see what I'm spending, but I don't know if I could see how much money I have in the virtual account at a time... and there are probably other problems too.     - account balances do not match The balance shown on the Account List for one of my credit cards shows that I owe $200. When I open the Transaction List for the credit card account, the amount owed shows (correctly) a balance of $0. Also, when I go to reconcile the credit card account with the statement, the "Total amount you owed last month" default entry shows $200 more that it should. When I go to correct this error, my only option is to have the program force balance with a $200 correction entry.     - Login Failure -- Response from Microsoft Support I just ended a chat support session with MS since I was seeing the "Cannot log in with passport" issue we are all seeing. Here is the response (which works fine for me). Hope is helps other people too. {MS}Thank you for holding, after reviewing your problem description, and as I understand the issue, you are unable to sign into Money using your Hotmail Passport, is this correct? There seems to be a problem with some of the Hotmail Passport's we have notified the Passport team and they are in the early stages of investigating this. Most likely it will not be resolved until at least next week. In the mean time you can select to disable the Passport feature in Money by going to File, Password Manager and click change. This will still allow you to access MSN BillPay but if you are syncing with MSN Money it will be affected. {ME}That is correct for my problem. I use Wells Fargo for online bill pay through Money. Can I still do that if I disable passport? {MS}Oh yes, in fact in this situation if you still want to protect your file with a Passport, you can create a new one at www.passport.com and use it until the issue is resolved it will not have any affect what-so-ever on Wells fargo BillPay. all passport is for is to password protect your file, for background banking (that is when statements are downloaded when money is closed) or MSN Money syncing. {MS}It has no effect on downloading statements when Money is open or using someone elses BillPay other than MSN Tag: Pocket PC syncing Invoices Tag: 144424

    - A quicken user needs help! I switched from Quicken to Money 2004 and like it however there are a couple of problems I have and assistance. I download all my statements online (not via MSN but individual downloads from the bank, credit card etc.) The first one maybe is my fault and hopefully someone can give me the solution. When I want to balance my checkbook the only option I get is to enter my the balance from the paper statement. In quicken there was the option to balance by choosing either the paper statement or the online balance statement. Is there a way to do that? Also I am having problems with some transactions. For example I just downloaded the charges from my credit card and a few charges confused me. One was from a company called Horizon Air services. Well, I had dealt with this company last year on a business trip overseas but there was a new charge yesterday. This alarmed me and I called the credit card to inquire and found out that the charge was from a shop called Horizon where my wife purchased something. however once it was downloaded into Money it changed to Horizon Air Services. Also there was a charge from a company called Sloat Garden Center ... but it showed as The Home Depot and yet another one completely off the mark! I went to the webpage of my credit card and looked at the history and the names there were the correct one's. Why did Money changed them once it downloaded them? Am I doing something wrong here and could someone help me with this please. The other feature I do not understand and this has been mentioned a number of times and that is to be able to back the file up within Money instead of going through the hoops via windows explorer etc. I do not understand why the program only offers the floppy drive as an option in the drop down box.     - Error Report I have been using Microsoft Money Deluxe 2002 for a while now downloading statements from my 2 banks without a problem. Now all of a sudden I can download from 1 bank fine but the 2nd bank when I download, then I click 'ok' for the 'Import Succesful' Dialogue box I get another window that pops up giving an 'error report' asking me either to 'send' or 'don't send' and after I close the box the download does not go into the program at all.     - Please Contact Microsoft About Missing or Disappearing Payee Problems I have filed a support claim with Microsoft about the disappearing payees problem in Microsoft Money. The problem is becoming very irritating. I am urging people who have this problem to file a support incident with the Microsoft Money Support Center. I feel that this is the only way that they will give the issue the attention that it needs. Below are the details of the incident that I filed with Microsoft on 7-31-2003 about the issue: Payees disappear from the master list of payees. The payee then becomes unselectable in the drop down list when completing transaction but it will show up under find and replace on transactions that it was used for in the past. When the payee is added again, it starts a new record for the payee and all transaction that use the new one are listed separately from the transactions that used the payee that has disappeared. To get to view a list of transactions that used the old payee that is hidden from the master list, I must select a transaction in an account register that I know used the old one that is missing from the master list and then right click the transaction and select "Go to payee:" In order to add a new payee with the same name is somewhat complicated. Normally when MS Money sees that two payees have the same name it will offer to merge them. In this case though, when a payee drops off the master list and I attempt to add it again, MS Money gives a dialog box that states that the payee already exists and it can not be created. MS Money knows that the payee exists, but it does not show it on the payee list or in the transaction drop down box. If a name that is the same as a missing payee is entered into a transaction form in an account register, MS Money will force the payee to be recreated with the same name. Even though there are several transactions under the missing one (I have had payees with numerous transactions just suddenly vanish from the master list) MS Money creates the new one with the same name. When this happens, as I stated above, it treats the payees as if they are two separate payees even though they are meant to be the same one and they have identical names. For example, I had a payee called "The Learning Years" in my MS Money file. I spent over 200 dollars at "The Learning Years" this past summer in several transactions. Yesterday I went to add a transaction under "The Learning Years" and the payee was missing. When I entered "The Learning Years" in the transaction forms payee field, it did not offer it as a choice in the drop down box. When I completed the Transaction, it asked me if I wanted to add "The Learning Years" to my list of payees. I said "yes" and it created the payee with the same identical name as the old one that has vanished. When I go to "categories and payees" to look at payee history, I see that only my last transaction with "The Learning Years" is listed under the new payee that MS Money just created again. If I dig by doing a search for "The Learning Years" to list all transactions that used that payee name, I can then find a transaction that used the old one that is not listed on the master list anymore. If I right click that transaction and select "Go to payee:" then I can go to the hidden instance of the Payee "The Learning Years" and the rest of the transactions under that payee can be seen excluding the most recent one that is now listed under the unhidden one that shows up in my master list. I know that many people are experiencing this problem. If you do a search in Google Groups (groups.google.com) for "money missing OR disappear OR vanish payee" you will find ample reading about this problem. My MS Money file was originally created by Money 2000 Standard, then it was converted to 2001 Deluxe, and then to 2003 Deluxe. I have tried using the salvage tools available to fix the problem, but they do not work for this issue. I have even used the latest salvage utility that is downloadable from the Microsoft Support Website; it does nothing to remedy the missing payees problem. Basically I am adding more debt to my loan account, but I would like to make this as a transfer to my checking account. Money doesnt let me input transfers, it just lets me make payments. Has anyone noticed with Money Deluxe & Business that
invoices applied to the total account balance do not come
over to the PPC? They are applied to the check register
in Money but the total in the PPC is off by the total of
my deposits?
