When I download my statement the payees all appear as POS
purchases, EFT withdrawals, etc and not the actual
payees,they are only appearing in the memo section.
When I do the reports to find out where my money is going
it will not find it unless I manually change all the
payees to the proper names. (Quicken would use the
proper names in the payee section)

Is there something I don't have set up properly or is
this just the way the program works.

Thanks in advance

"POS purchase", "EFT withdrawal", etc. is what is provided by the financial
institution(s) that you are downloading from. When you are reviewing the
downloaded transactions, you can change the payee name to something else, if
you'd like. Money will then remember to associate the changed payee name
with the downloaded payee name in future downloads.

The can check Tools->Options->AddADescriptionToTheMemoField. That
should let you see the actual payee IF the bank puts that in the
memo field. You can then use the text for reports or as help to fill
in the Payee field. While looking at the register you can toggle the
view with Ctrl+T.

With Money 2003 and 2004
Accounts&Bills->Categories&Payees->PreferredPayeeNames lets you
change replacement of names with names of your choice. While there
you might look at the Payee Rules Manager that lets you ignore words
and phrases such as Check, ATM Withdrawal, etc.

Other than that, if the bank puts generic names into the download
data instead of actual , that's the way it works.
