I keep getting this error message and can't seem to solve it. I'm on
line...what am I missing?

"To set up your accounts, you must be online. Please close Money, and then
sign in to your file. When you sign in, make sure the Work offline box is
cleared. "

Thanks!
Tom

I found the answer under a similar question in this newsgroup. I had the same
problem. What happened is, when you were using Money 2004, you opened it
without using the Passport services. Then you exited. (That's how I always
worked in Money 2004.) Then when you installed Money 2005, it converted your
file to its new version; and the conversion comes with a bug that makes the
"work offline box" not appear on the signin screen.

The solution is (you're gonna hate this), first, you need to have a copy of
your Money 2004 file lying around somewhere. Then, if you don't have a backup
machine that still has Money 2004 on it (I am SO glad I do), you will have to
uninstall 2005, install 2004, open the 2004 file in the Passport services
"On" mode, close it, and reinstall 2005. Or find a friend who's still running
2004 and "fix" the file on their machine, to avoid all that un- and
re-installing.

I can't believe only three people have had this problem. Microsoft should
provide a simple utility to switch that bit in the converted 2005 file.

p.s. Good luck!

Well, you guys arent the only ones with this problem. I encountered it when
upgrading from Money 02 OEM edition. I guess i would have to "reload?" the
OEM edition that came on my computer? Dont know how thats gonna work.
Almost wish I'd have stuck 02...guess when all the bugs get worked out 05
will be worth it...

hold the phone...I think I may have an easier solution on WinXP.

Long story short, a friend suggested that my profile on XP may be corrupted
in some way, so I created a new one and copied everything over including
preferences, .pst's, etc...Then backuped current money file and brought it
into new profile and opened and it is now working properly. I'm not a
techie, so I can't explain exactly how I did this, but it worked...

I had to try something other that what Emily suggested, since I didn't have
a copy of those files.

Good luck!
Tom

I have the same error. "To set up your accounts, you must be online. Please
close Money, and then sign in to your file. When you sign in, make sure the
Work offline box is cleared."

I never got a chance to set up any accounts. This is a brand new install.
I've never used Money. I was a Quicken user but decided to go to Money since
Quciken decided to abandon QIF files. However, Money is useless if it won't
work. I tried calling tech support and was told it would take 38 minutes to
talk to someone.

I'm going to find out if I can return Money and find some other banking
program.
