After purchasing Money 2004 from Amazon UK, and installing
I get an error message saying to reinstall the program
since some files are missing or corrupt for one of the
menu items. I had deactivated Norton Antivirus and the
native firewall to Windows XP pro before installing.
I am unable to fix this by reinstalling. Any help
appreciated.

Does this headline look familiar? Of course it
does. You most likely have just seen this story
recently featured on a major nightly news
program (USA) 20/20 & Oprah. His mother was
cleaning and putting laundry away when she
came across a large brown paper bag that was
suspiciously buried beneath some clothes and a
skateboard in the back of the 15-year-old son's
closet. Nothing could have prepared her for the
shock she got when she opened the bag and found
it was full of cash. Five-dollar bills,
twenties, fifties and hundreds, all neatly
rubber-banded and labeled piles.
"My first thought was that he had robbed a
bank," says the 41-year-old woman. "There was
over $71,000 in that bag - that's more than my
husband earns in a year."
The woman immediately called her husband at the
car dealership where he worked to tell him what
she had discovered. He came home right away and
they drove together to the boy's school and
picked him up. Little did they suspect that
where the money came from was more shocking than
actually finding it in the closet.
As it turns out, the boy had been sending out,
via e-mail, a type of "report" to e-mail
addresses that he obtained off the Internet.
Every day after school for the past 2 months, he
had been doing this right on his computer in his
bedroom.
"I just got the e-mail one day and I figured
what the heck, I put my name on it like the
instructions said and I started sending it out,"
says the clever 15-year-old.
The e-mail letter listed 5 addresses and
contained instructions to send one $5 bill to
each person on the list, then delete the address
at the top and move the other addresses down,
and finally to add your name to the top of the
list.
The letter goes on to state that you would
receive several thousand dollars in five-dollar
bills within 2 weeks if you sent out the letter
with your name at the top of the 5-addressee
list. "I get junk e-mail all the time- and
really did not think it was going to work." the
boy continues.
Within the first few days of sending out the
e-mail- the post office box that his parents
had gotten him for his video-game magazine
subscriptions began to fill up with not
magazines, but envelopes containing $5 bills.
"About a week later I rode my bike down to the
post office and my box had one magazine and
about 300 envelopes stuffed in it. There was
also a yellow slip that said I had to go up to
the post office counter. So thought I was in
trouble or something (laughs)." He goes on- "I
went up to the counter and they had a whole box
of more mail for me. I had to ride back home and
empty out my backpack because I could not carry
it all.
" Over the next few weeks, the boy continued
sending out the e-mail. "The money just kept
coming in and I just kept sorting it and
stashing it in the closet, I barely had
time for my homework." He had also been riding
his bike to several of the banks in his area
and exchanging the $5 bills for twenties,
fifties, and hundreds.
"I didn't want the banks to get suspicious, so
I kept riding to different banks with like five
thousand at a time in my backpack. I would
usually tell the lady at the bank counter that
my dad had sent me in to exchange the money and
he was outside waiting for me. One time the lady
gave me a really strange look and told me that
she would not be able to do it for me and my dad
would have to come in and do it, but I just rode
to the next bank down the street (laughs)."
Surprisingly, the boy did not have any reason to
be afraid. The reporting news team examined and
investigated the so-called "chain letter" the
boy was sending out and found that it was not a
chain letter at all. In fact, it was completely
legal according to US Postal and Lottery Laws,
Title 18, Sections 1302 and 1341, or Title 18,
Section 3005 in the US code, also in the code
of federal regulations. Volume 16, Sections 255
and 436, which state a product or service must
be exchanged for money received.

401k Manager does not show valid account
Money 2003 OEM Edition
I created a new 401k account. Was adding the figures from
my statements, then went back to the 401k manager. The
account was not showing up there. It was showing up in
the normal account list...
Any idea how to get it back into the 40k manager?

When I open money, the bank balance on the home page is
incorrect. When I actually open the bank register, the
balance is correct, as is the balance on my financial
reports.
Why is the balance incorrect on the home page?

Password failure on Restore Backup
I am restoring from a back-up file and cannot get past
the password. I am certain that I am using the right
password and even checked the .NET passport password.
Logged in on-line while Money was rejecting it.
New system is XP Home, old was 2000 Professional. Going
from Money 2002 to Money 2002, so no change in version.

Transfer of data
Microsoft Money 2003 on a Windows 98 machine. Made back
up. Can't seem to get the data over to a newer Windows
XP machine. Installed original software from disk just
fine. Tried to import the data into it from the backup
disk. Tried to restore from the backup disk. Info fine
on the floppy, copied fine to the hard drive but it does
not seem to want to take it. Is there a better way to
transfer data from old progam on older machine to same

Open existing file
I recently got a new computer and want to move my Money
files to that computer. This is what I have done so far:
- installed current version of Money 2003 on new PC
- copied current Money file from old PC to CD
- copied current Money file from CD to new PC
- am able to perform File, Open and it appears to want to
open existing file
However, my data does not appear anywhere - accounts,
payees, reports, etc. Its like it hasn't opened it at all.
How can I get it to open an existing file that the new PC

screen size shifted
Since I downloaded Norton, my MSMoney program shifted and
only fills 3/4 of the screen. It refuses to be dragged

Can't delete deposit from budget
I deleted a paycheck from my bill & deposits. The
deposit still shows up when I run budget reports for the
months originally covered by the deleted deposit (no
future months). When I look at the calander tab within
Bills & deposits it still shows up but with a line
through it. I just want to remove it entirely from my

Downloaded: Items to Review
I am having trouble downloading information from my bank
account into Microsoft Money 2002. Whenever I go the
download process that I have always done, none of the new
downloaded information shows up in the register but the
register screen does indicate that I have "x" number of
new items to view. What do I do to review and balance

Investment transactions in a category report
I am new to Microsoft Money and am trying to generate a
report that I previously generated in Quicken.
Specifically I would like to generate a category report
that produces the detail of income and expenses. The
reports that I am generating in Money only show expense
categories. The investment income such as dividends,
interest and capital gains are all combined under the
heading of the brokerage account and are not subtotalled
by category.

I have been trying to down load stock quotes to my 2003
Microsoft Money-Deluxe. Previously I had phone modem and
it was connected through AOL and I had no problems, now I
have VOW cable internet. I do not know how to set up
connection setting so I my microsoft money is updated with

Every time i shut down the computer money seem to
uninstall.The program is still active,but when I reopen it
money try to reinstall asking for it's path,and there is

transfering to laon
I have just set up a loan for a car. When trying to
transfer money to make a payment, the loan does not show
up on the list of accounts in the category list - like
all my other non-loan accounts. However, the associated
asset does. If I select the asset, Money decides the
value of the asset goes up by the amount of the payment.
This seems screwy. The value of the car has not changed
in reality, only my equity in the car. In addition,
nothing is reflected in the loan account itself. How do
I record these payments?

Downloaded transactions balance not equal to registers transaction balance
Using MS Money 2003 and online services to download transactions from my
credit card account.
I just downloaded the latest transactions from my account today and though 1
particular transaction has posted to the online account, Money didn't
download it and put it in the register for my credit card account. It DID,
however, change the balance to reflect the correct amount under the
"Downloaded" info section in the upper left of the credit card register
screen.

04 Deluxe: troublesome transaction keeping account out of balance...
This is the text of my querry to ms money support, posting here too to see
if anyone can help. Many thx!
I have a credit card account that is several years old that I have been
balancing monthly. About 2 years ago there was a transaction from my
checking account to the credit card account for payment (from checking acct
set up as a transfer to the cc account) that for some reason was voided and
entered again. The amount of these transaction appears correctly in the
account balance section (the voided transaction has no impact however the
re-enetered transaction has the correct credit amount). The cc account was
balanced after this transaction, however the voided transaction appears as
reconciled "R" while the re-enetered transaction does not appear with the
reconciled "R" flag. Subsequent balancing of the cc account all appear
correct in that after downloading the statement from the cc issuer (done on
a monthly basis as a downloaded statement). What is strange is that the cc
account when viewed from the money home page or from the account list shows
a credit balance of the amount of that 2-year old payment that is not
reconciled. When I look at the account from the account view, this
descrepancy is not there. My attempts to get this account to balance have
been unsuccessful. I have tried setting the old transaction to "R" during
the monthly balance process however then money wants to enter reconciliation
transaction to offset the diference it starting balance, if it do this then
the account appears correctly when viewed from the money home page or
account listings, but when viewed from the account itself, the
reconciliation transaction is making the "amount i owe" appear the amount of
the 2-year old payment transaction plus current charges. So my question is,
how do i force this account to reconcile and keep the view of the accoutn on
money home and from within the account in synch? please note that i have
been trying various approaches to fix the account on a backup version of the

I started with Money 2004 US trial version.
Now I bought M2004 UK.
Using now the UK version, the money file created with the
US version generates errors.

Very Slow DownloadTimes
When I download a particular transaction from my online
statments, it takes almost 40 seconds. With 15
transactions to download, that's 10 minutes. It used to
take only about 2 or 3 seconds per transaction. Any
thoughts out there would be greatly appreciated. The
culprit may be that I have transactions from the
beginning of 1997 (6.5 years). Is that the case? If so,
do I have to delete a bunch of already downloaded and

Printing a Budget
I've done a group search and this question seems to have been asked 3
times without an answer. I have no idea why I think asking a 4th time
will turn up a good answer, but here goes..
How do I print my budget without printing a budget report? I'm using
Money 2002. I don't really want to see how I did on my spending
relative to my budget, I just want a hard copy of how much I've
allocated, monthly and yearly, to my spending categories.

Installation goes okay. When I run the program by clicking
on the desktop icon, an error message appears. Content
is "either registry key is missing or a registrey value is
invalid." Can someone help?

Disappearing Transactions
I have Microsoft Money 2002
I've been downloading my statements to money using Money
download option.
Unfortunately every time I make a download it screws up
the existing transactions in Microsoft Money.
That is, I can have my Money account perfectly balanced
with my Suncorp accounts, then when I download my latest
transactions from Suncorp my money transactions get
messed up. The new transactions are brought over
perfectly, but when they come over some of my previous
transactions in Money disappear. This means I have to go
through every transaction in Money to see which
transactions have been mysteriously disappeared, then re
enter it manually.

I emailed the above to my bank Suncorp Metway bank here
in Australia and got the following response:
Thank you for your secure message sent 08/09/03.
Even though we offer the option to download we do not
offer support for Downloading your transaction history,
as this is not our area of expertise.
Below are the steps you would follow to download the
transactions to Money. Verify the extension you are using
for MONEY is .ofc
To download your transaction history results, please
follow these steps.
1. Logon to Online Access using your Customer ID and
Password.
2. Perform a transaction history search from Everyday
Banking or Loans. This will give you the transaction
results
page.
3. Select the package you would like to download the
transactions into. Then select if you would like to
download
this page or all transactions. For results that have
less than 25 transactions selecting either option will
download all transactions presented.
4. A pop up box will be displayed once the download link
is selected. The pop up box will advise you what
extension you will need to save the file as. For MONEY
the extension is .ofc, QUICKEN is .qif and ASCII is .txt
as
indicated above.
5. The 'File Download' box will be displayed to ask you
where you would like to save this file. Select 'Save
this
file to disk'. Click Ok.
6. Save the file to a location that you will remember.
Don't forget to save the file with the necessary
extension.
For MONEY the extension is .ofc, QUICKEN is .qif and
ASCII is .txt. Type in the File Name of the document and
the
correct extension and then click save.
7. Open the spreadsheet package that you wish to download
the transactions into.
8. Select the option to import files.
9. Go to the location in your directory where you saved
the file. Double click on the file to open it.
10. The transactions will download your transaction
history search results into your accounting package.
The other suggestion we could provide is to contact the
Money support desk and ask them if they could provide you
with some assistance.

Is there a fix to this? It's very frustrating. I want to

"Earmark" money?
I'm refining my budget, but I've always wondered if there
is a way to "earmark" money. Say I budget $100 for some
category each month, but only spend $75 in a particular
month. Is there a way to "earmark" the unspent funds? So
that the balance in that account could also be viewed as
the virtually-dedicated funds. So that I'd know what
funds should be set aside to maintain projected/budgeted
expenses. Hope that makes sense.
BTW - I'm still using Money 97, so let me know if the
answer is that I should upgrade to use a certain feature
that'd solve this.

Double Entry Problem w/ invoice and bank download
I have an invoice that I receive payment for and
automatically register it in my bank account. Then I log
into my bank account after I deposit the payment and see
that there are now two entries. One for the payment
transaction the other for the actual deposit. The one
that is deposited cannot be labled payment of invoice. It
gives and error, and then when I opt to change it so that
I can assign it the other transaaction the pyament of
invoice tranasaction does not show up as an option. This
results in a double entry, if I delete the payment of
invoice my invoice blance increases back to the original
value. If I delete the downloaded one then I just delayed

Getting corrupt data message when downloading account transactions
I recently purchased a new computer and loaded a new copy
of Money 2004 and copied my file to the new PC. when I
try to download account transactions from SunTrust, I get
a corrupt download error message. This did not occur on
my other machine. When I set up a new account in Money,
I get the same message...

On the list of financial institutions I can only find
American banks. I also have Australian accounts that I

Money is still stuck with a 4 character password and my

Interest period for loan calculation
I'm getting started in Money 2004. I imported my Quicken
2003 data file into Money without any errors. Afterward,
I checked the amortization schedule for my loan in Money,
and I noticed that it was different than in Quicken.
After some investigation using Excel, I've deduced that
Money is calculating the interest and principal breakdown
for each payment based on the *actual number of days*
between payment due dates. However, my lender uses
the "30/12" method for calculating payments, meaning
payments are based on 12 payments per year with 30 days
in each month. (This is how Quicken calculates the
payments, too.)
The "30/12" method is very standard for home mortgages,
so I'm sure there is some way to configure Money to
calculate the payments and amortization schedule using
this methodology. Unfortunately, I can't seem to figure
out how. Is anyone familiar with how to do this?

Unbudgeted expenses
Hello,
I'm a former quicken user, and am used to looking
at my Monthy Budget report with ALL categories
being shown, whether they have budgeted amounts or
not. (That way I can see if I'm making expenses that
I still need to add to my budget.) How would I
accomplish the same (or similar) thing in Money?

Trouble Downloading Account Activity into Register
I am having trouble downloading information from my Wells
Fargo accounts from the WF website into Microsoft Money
2003. Whenever I go the download process that I have
always done, none of the new downloaded information shows
up in the register but the register screen does indicate
that I have "x" number of new items to view. I do not use
Microsoft Passport.
I don't know if it's related, but this problem began a few
weeks ago after we completely unplugged the computer and
surge protector from the wall to repaint. The next time I
powered up my Money file was blank and had to restore from
back up.
I hope there is an easy solution . . . or at least that's

Does anybody know what version this file is?
I had to reload my PC from scratch and when I tried to
restore my msmoney3.bak file it asked for my password,
but won't accept it. I KNOW that I have the correct
password. Here's another item I noticed - when I create
a test file in the MS Money version I have (2000) - it
saves it as a MSMoney2 file and the task bar reflects it
as MSMoney2 as well. COuld it be that I have a deluxe
version or MSMoney 2003 and just don't remember doing it -
my husband and I share this progrgam - but he can't
remember upgrading it. The version is the issue - I think

Transactions marked reconciled when not?
I have had a problem with transactions in my account
register showing up as reconciled when they are not.
This has happened to me more than once, and to a friend
as well. It is highly improbable that I mistakenly
marked them reconciled myself, since it takes several
key/mouse strokes to do so and this has happened multiple
times.
I don't understand how this can happen and the starting
balance for the next reconciliation be correct? In other
words, how in the heck am I balancing?
I'm thinking there must be a glich in the program
somehow...does anyone know of an update I can download
that will correct this? I'm using Money 2002, v 10.0.

AutoBudget Not Working
I created a new budget in Money 2003 and selected AutoBudget. I have
some income categories selected that I know have amounts in them (I
have six years of data). The AutoBudget creates those categories, but

When I try to print a chart or report, I get the
message "This program has caused a default, etc." and it

If you are upgrading to Money 2004 watch out that Nationwide B/S does not
yet support it. I am told around mid November 2003 they will have tested it.

Stock quote returns -99.900
After working just fine for several months, I am now
getting a bogus stock quote for just one of my
investments. The Last Price returned is -99.900.
All other funds show valid and updated prices after I
perform "Update Prices Online...".
The fund in question is "CI Global Telecommunications" and
its symbol is CIG853.
The problem started about a week or so ago, and continues
today. I am resident in Canada, and using the Canadian
version of Money 2003 Standard Edition.
Could this be a problem at the quote server?
Could the symbol have changed?
Is this a bug?
Any and all suggestions or solutions welcomed.

Not printing partial cheques
Operating System XP - Money 2003. When trying to print a
cheque on a partial sheet (1 or 2 cheques left of sheet
of 3) there is nothing printed at all. Same problem on
various laer printers.

I'm WAY ahead on taxes this year. Anyone know if you can file a new W-4
form and actually request that *nothing* be withheld for the remainder of

Printing the Register
Can anyone help me figure out how to print the MS Money
register? I want to print all the information (ie - date,
amount, payee, category) just like it appears on the
register. I don't need a report just a print out of the
register so I can compare with my bank statement.
