Hi,
I was able to sync Money 2006 Deluxe with MoneyCentral fine but now
that I upgraded to 2007 Deluxe nothing seems to be happening. I make a
change to a watch account on my desktop and the changes are not
reflected on the web and vice-versa. I see that when I close the web
page it gives me the message sending and receiving information so I can
access my accounts on other computers but I do not see that message any
more once I have upgraded. I am using a Passport (Windows Live ID) on
my account and I thought I had all the appropriate boxes checked. Can
someone tell me the steps to make sure that it is syncing from the
desktop to the web. I would really like to see my changes updated when
I access it away from my desktop. Thank you,
-Dan

Congratulations, you've just boarded the roller-coaster ride through hell --
search through the newsgroup using terms like 'sync stopped working' or 'sync
down again' -- you'll find >>lots<< of info.

Thanks Ben - I tried searching but most of the issues I am seeing is
trouble syncing money with bank accounts or other financial
institutions. The problems I am having is getting my desktop version
of money 2007 deluxe to sync with MSN Money Central online. There are
some users with that issue but they are all so old and talking about
network issues months ago.

I went to the "My Money" section of Money Central and see a few weird
things that I am hoping someone can shed some light on:

-When I just click on the My Money tab I see 3 of each of my accounts
for one bank and a duplicate account for another bank. They all have
the same balance and the same time last updated. When I click on
Accounts link on the right hand side I only see the correct number -
all the duplicates are gone - they are only showing on the main page.
Any idea why?

-Most of my problems are with my portfolios not syncing (my other
accounts do not update either on Money Central but I can live with
that). It used to sync any changes I made such as buying or selling or
even adding new symbols or removing old ones from my watch lists. Now
it does not do any of that.

As funny as it may sound I really think all of my issues are with the
popup that used to come up every time I closed Money 2006. It just
gave me the message that it was sending and receiving data so I could
access it on other machines. I want to get that back. I went and
removed then added again the online services (the first item in the
settings area of Money) but still no luck.

I just need to get that sending / receiving dialog back!

Thank you for your help - I have had really good luck with Money up
until this point with only 1 other issue that MS was able to resolve.
Oh well, that's what I get for my horrible need to have the latest.

-Dan

That feature was removed from Money 2007. If it was important to
you, and if it worked well enough for you, you could go back to
Money 2006 for a while. But there were some problems that were
fairly intractable. The ability also was worrisome to many users who
feared that the data could somehow, despite the security measures,
get intercepted.

Sorry, I think Cal's answer may be more applicable -- he mentions something not
working because it's been taken away from M07, and he's got a better chance of
being right than I do. I gave up on using MSN Money to refer to my
transactions a long time ago and consider it a sync-conduit. Now that Billpay
has been reintegrated, I don't have reason to use MSN Money at all. I took
your question to be related to sync, but sounds like you are trying to use the
service in a way I don't..

Thanks Cal,
That is really dissapointing. I wish they would have made that clear
on the website. I don't remember seeing that anywhere. So right now
you are saying that none of my accounts (bank, credit card, investment,
etc.) will sync online again with Money Central? Is there any sort of
workaround to this or some other way to get the same general
functionality? Thanks for your help. I would have spent forever
trying to find the setting to get that back.

The transactions that download into MoneyCentral from the FIs can be
brought in to Microsoft Money. In the Money 2007 method, there is no
flow of info from Microsoft Money to MoneyCentral/MSN Money.

There is no way for manually entered transactions to get synced to
Money 2007.

When you converted to Money 2007, it left a copy of your Money 2006
file as *.m15.

OK, I might have to see if I can go back. I only care about the flow
from Money 2007 -> Money Central. Now I'll have to see if they give
refunds for that sort of stuff. Do you know of any other websites that
will allow what I want to do or ways to get it done? I just want to be
able to see the latest snapshot of the investments from a remote
computer without having to manually enter in all the data into Money
Central every time.

I'm not sure what it is that you want to do that you cannot do. If
you go to http://moneycentral.msn.com/stock_portfolio, I expect you
will still see your data. You could probably set up there to have
your actual transactions downloaded from your broker. Any watch
accounts would be maintained separately tho.

It was the watch accounts that I was really wondering about. I tend to
make a lot of changes to the different ones I have and I'm sure I'll
get by without it but it was really nice having that feature. I wish
MS would leave it in as an option though still. They hardly change the
product except to remove features. I have no idea what Quicken is like
but the PocketPC and MoneyCentral syncronization was the main thing
keeping me with Microsoft even though I love all their other products.
I just wish they would offer a rebate. Here's to the rumors that 2008
is the year MS refreshes their lineup!

Thanks for all your help Cal - I'm curious though - what enabled you to
find out that they removed that feature? Is their some master readme
or change file that I missed or is this through your inside sources?
Thanks again!

If you find the PocketPC and MoneyCentral synchronization to be
important, you should probably revert to Money 2006. Your email you
received after purchasing Money 2007 should have a link to where you
can enter your order number and request a refund.

Regarding your question, the latter.

Third party downloads (yodlee) via MSN are now working for me. I think
changing the way sync was handled allowed this to work. Personally, this
is a great improvement. I didn't care about storing everything on MSN, but
I do like being able to download all my accounts.

Good question. When you set up accounts to download via "third
party" it passes thru MSN Money. I doubt that you need to explicitly
use that setting in the process.

Cal I am having the same probems and Dan. I want to be able to see my
portfolio information in MSN Money Central. It worked well for a while in
money 2006 but failed after Bank of America changed its money interface in
feburary. I could locally resore the money 2006 data but it would not
upload. There were also a meriad of other problems regarding downloading
account information. Anyway I upgraded to money 2007 which solved the other
accounts problems but I still cannot access my portfolio information and when
I try to resore a money 2007 backup to msn money portfolio it crashes IE.

Do you have any suggestions to solve this problem? Going back to money 2006
will not solve my problem of syncing as stated earlier.

By the way I tried setting up my accounts on msn money and then letting
money 2007 access those accounts. Turns out money inports that information
so you have twice the portfolio information. You have to access msn money
information for certain accounts so this does not solve the probem it only
compounds its.

Hi Cal-
I went in to MoneyCentral and tried to set up another separate account
there from my broker thinking that the statements and transactions
would be downloaded there as well as in Money 2007 and I would just
have to accept the transactions twice in two accounts - one on the
website and one in Money. Unfortunately, nothing seems to be
downloading in the new account I set up. It does not ask how many
months or weeks of data I want to download from my FI nor does it seem
to get any of the new transactions. Worse, this account was somehow
brought back into Money and shows up there as well - empty of
transactions - but still there. Does MoneyCentral support downloading
transactions from FI on the web version?

I really do not think I really understand the way MoneyCentral and
Money 2007 communicate with one another now. The setting to "Receive
account updates from MSN Money My Accounts" is also really confusing.
