I've been using Money 2003 Deluxe on my Win98SE machine for nearly 3 years
with no problem (other than not being able to archive). But just a few
minutes ago I tried to run the program and repeatedly got the following
error dialog box:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program: (MS$ path)

abnormal program termination"

I should note that the same error box appeared after inserting the Money CD
into the drive.

Money was running fine as recently as yesterday, and the only thing I've
done since then is update my ZoneAlarm firewall. (Turning ZA & all other
background programs off didn't do any good; neither did rebooting.) If a
particular file is missing or corrupted, can I restore it from my latest
system backup (last weekend)? Do I need to uninstall/reinstall? Any other
solution? Need to know ASAP, as I've got several transactions waiting to be
entered. :-o

Per the above link, I ran sysback.msi. But toward the end of the reinstall
process the following error dialog came up, both before and after
uninstalling System Pack 3:

"Error 1904. Module C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\msxml3.dll failed to register.
HRESULT -2147023782. Contact your support personnel."

I guess that's you, Cal. :-)

The referenced .dll file is present in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder. Could
that file be corrupt? If so, can I restore from the Win98 CD or Money CD
using system file checker, or from my last system backup? Thanks.

Based on that error message, I guess I would try
regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\msxml3.dll

But I don't know about the corrupt file or what. I would also search
the drive to see of you might have other copies of msxml3.dll that
might be confusing things.

I just did a full search of the entire hard drive, all partitions.
msxml3.dll is located only in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.

Am I correct in assuming that "regsvr32" is from a DOS prompt, or in command
mode?

You can do that from a command (DOS) window, or from Start->Run.

It may not solve your problem, but it would seem to address that one
error you had posted.

I was finally able to get Money working again. First I had to restore
msxml3.dll from my last system backup, then ran the "regsvr32" from
Start>Run (got a "bad command or filename" error when tried to run it from a
DOS prompt). Should I reinstall Service Pack 3 now?
