    - Transaction Types I am a new Money user and am wondering if there is a way to create custom transaction types? I have been a Quicken user before now and have had the option of creating custom transaction types i.e. instead of leaving the num field set to blank I would have it say Bill Pay or something like that.     - Money 2002 - Recovery of a corrupted file ?? Hi, I have managed to close my money 2002 file incorrectly. I had not set up the backup function and the file repair tool says it is unabe able to read the file. The previous saved backup file I have is 3 months old and I would like to recover that 3 months of data from the corrupted file. Is there a tool I can use to edit the corrupted file so that money can open it? or to just view it in a basic way to manually transfer the data over to the older file?     - Configuring the "Investment Activities" window - Money 2006 I have kept track of many investment activities in Excel spreadsheets for many years. Now I would like to "copy / paste" the transactions into Money. I would like to free up as much of my screen as I can so that I can work with two simultaneious windows "sharing" my screen, one Excel and one Money. Trouble is that Money forces me to look at at lot of Icons and menu lines at the top that chew up a lot of my valuable screen.     - No cash flow in 2006 OEM My previous PC had Money 2002 OEM, and I used the cash flow forecast all the time. Now I have a new PC, Money 2006 OEM, and the cash flow forecast is not available as a feature. It would be worth it to me to just run 2002, but I can't because there's no installer: it was built in to the PC recovery disk. So instead of a smooth upgrade, I'm stuck without the one feature I really want. The only way to keep what I had for years is to pay for the Deluxe version. Microsoft, what gives?!     - How change stock/co. name in Money '02? I use Money '02 on Win XP.(I haven't upgraded to a later version because my understanding is that the later versions are more closely tied to MSN Money, which is NOT something I desire.) One of the stocks/companies I own has undergone a name change, from Duke Power to Spectrum Energy. So when I download my holdings info from my brokerage site, Money says 'Add 100 shares Spectrum Energy.' But I don't want to add those shares, not unless I can show that they are the Duke Power I bought a couple of years ago, with all that Duke history carrying over to Spectrum.     - 2002 problems i had money 2002 on my computer. i took it off and reinstalled it b/c i wanted to start using it again. it work fine before. all of my accounts have to be downloaded except for my discover card. when i go to set up online services with discover card i get this message "cannot complete a required online call at this time" i went through the support infor on microsofts website with no success. i think that i need to input the account, user name and password. there is no place to do in account infor. and when i go to the login lockbox and click on the fin. instit. tab all it says is what password do you want money to remeber. you cant select advance you can only select ok or cancel. im at my wits in and hopefully someone can help me. i have uninstalled andreinstall two different times trying to get it to work. any help would be appreciated.     - Account Transaction Report Incorrect I use MM2007 Premium. When I go to the report section>Account Transactions>Previous Year the Amount column is correct but the Running Balance is not correct. You can see the correct balances if you go to the account.     - Lifetime Planner losing link to paycheck For the past few days, M2007 has been losing the link to my paycheck every time I go into it, which puts me at a $0 income and of course everything is messed up from there. Since M2007, the information that shows in the dialog when linking is garbled, but it's been like that since the beta program. I haven't posted any new paychecks from the bills center into my account in the past few days. Is this happening to anyone else? Any thoughts on how to fix it? Thanks.     - Guaranteed Payment or Self Employed Does anyone know how to get Money 2007 to recognize income as Guaranteed Payments (from partnerships)...or self-employed income for that matter. Basically, anything that will allow me to "escrow" self-employment taxes that are only payed every three months...I want my budget to show the "Net" amount as income rather than a quarterly charge in one month.     - How to change investment "Category" ?? I have M-2004, and now I remember why I hate it so much. After the first few frustrating weeks I abandoned trying to do invoicing and bookkeeping, and have only used it for investment tracking since. And it is barely able to do that.     - Printing a date range for one account in Money 2006(small biz vers My client has Microsoft MOney 2006 (Small Business version). HE wants to be able to print a date range of reports (for example a Month) on one Month for just ONE ACCOUNT. Perhaps this is done by filtering, or whatever. So my question is how can he print a report for one month on one account. THere is one report that comes close -- the "Tax Report".     - Money 2006: Cash Flow vs Budgeting I have a simple question (can provide more information if/when required), but I've made a budget that 'supposedly balances'. At the 'Enter you expenses' screen, the bottom says: Total monthly income: XXX Total monthly expenses: XXX Left over: $126.95 When I click next, I get the option: 'You will have $95.48 to save or spend each month.' My first question is why don't those two amounts match up? Then finally (for now - I have found other weird behaviors in 'Budget Summary' but maybe they'll clear up when/if I solve this problem), if I look at my cash flow, it gradually goes 'downward' and eventually into the red - which obviously I'm trying to avoid ;) Please let me know if there are any known 'deficiancies' in cash flow and/or budget. I did have to hastle around to get one of my money bills (transfer into retirement account) to show up under the 'Transfer out of budget account'...I think I just set the contribution account of the retirement account to not be included in budgetting or something.     - Updating investments I have IE 7, MS Money 2007. I have four investments that will update and reflect the total shares owned but it won't take the share price and compute what is the total cash value of the investment. On MSN Money site it does list my shares and the value of the investment. I don't know why MS Money 2007 won't give me the same information as MSN Money. Does anyone know how to fix this?     - Problem with investment accounts MS07 Business edition... I have created three seperate investment accounts... one for a 401K (my wifes) a Money market account and one for a Roth IRA (Myself). All three accounts are with the same broker, but one has a different user ID than the other two. Upon creation, I entered all required info including online passwords etc... The accounts were created sucessfully, with the exception that no values were downloaded. All three account values showed ($) for the account value and ($) for the total portfolio value. I know the passwords worked as when I entered the information for the userid that has the two accounts, it automatically downlaoded both without me telling it there were two. So, I tried to update a few times... no luck. I deleted the accounts and tried to re-create them. Now, upon trying to re-create the account it tells me there is already an account at the broker using the userid I had used when I first created them. It will now only let me "update" the account through the creation process even though the account no longer exists in Money.     - MS Money 2007 & Windows Live Password I upgraded to Money 2007 1/26/07 and it worked fine for 3 days. Today (1/29/07) it refuses to recognize the Windows Live Password.     - Money 2005 - Can't get it to update itself. Just installed Money 2005 on my new PC but it won't go online and download it's updates. I get a pop-up telling me updates are available and asking if I want to download them. I click Yes and get a box that says Please wait while we prepare to download. Then it just sits there and does nothing at all. I have no internet activity or anything. If I click No and open the program, I can do the ONline Updates for stocks and such just fine, I just can't get the actual program update. Is this available somewhere I can download it manually or anything like that? Or any suggestions? I already tried making a new file, using a different admin account, etc and it doesn't help. Thanks!     - undeleteable accounts and crashes in msm07 [This followup was posted to microsoft.public.money and a copy was sent to the cited author.] undeleteable ("this operation cannot be performed", and the web popup shows no further information). I have deleted all transactions within them that I can. One of them is an investment account (a CD) that ended with a "redeem CD" - that line will not highlight or select in the window, and I can not delete any transaction before it (those transactions do highlight). The other is in the bank accounts section and was (I think) the cash portion of the CD - and it also will not delete. I made a copy of my datafile and deleted every account except these 2, and did repairs. No luck. In the "real" file, trying to delete the CD account results in a crash to desktop with an error message that I copied to 15d_appcompat.txt and which starts out: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?> <DATABASE> <EXE NAME="msmoney.exe" FILTER="GRABMI_FILTER_PRIVACY"> <MATCHING_FILE NAME="adapt.dll" SIZE="109360" CHECKSUM="0x24BD92C0" BIN_FILE_VERSION="16.0.0.1303" BIN_PRODUCT_VERSION="16.0.0.1303" PRODUCT_VERSION="16.00.1303" FILE_DESCRIPTION="MSN Money Adaptation DLL" and goes on for quite a while.     - cannont connect to online services for financial institution setup i am trying to set up online services for a new institution. i've had schwab set up for years, and i am still able to update that account. however, when i try to set up a NEW ameritrade account, when trying to do the initial setup i receive an error message saying "money cannot complete a required online call at this time. please check your internet connection settings and try again." however, i can click internet updates or connect to schwab just fine. i even tried setting up a new schwab account, since i know that works on my existing account, and i get the same message. anyone know what's going on? thanks!     - some MS Money problems that have kept me from upgrading I currently have MS Money 2000. I've purchased Money 2004, but switched back to 2000 because I didn't feel that much was improved. As I'm investigating Money 2007, there are still features missing that I believe it should have. 1) the ability to set up bimonthly payments for mortgages, auto loans, credit cards, etc. Paying bi-monthly can drastically reduce the interest paid over the life of a loan. 2) an easy-to-use balance transfer/consolidation simulator. it would be great to simulate projected savings and effective interest rates when considering balance transfer senarios. For example, it would be nice to simulate something like, Credit Card A has a balance of $5000 at 8%. Credit Card B has a balance of $5000 at 0% for 6 months, but a normal rate of 18%. It would be nice to simulate if it would be better to pay as much as possible on Credit Card A, because it (temporarily) has a higher rate, or to pay as much as possible on Credit Card B because all of the money would go to principle and allow one to reduce the balance as fast as possible. As Money is now, it automatically picks the highest interest rate, even if a low rate is only temporary. I'd like to see numbers for both. 3) similarly, regarding no-interest/no-payments offers to set up one "pay in full" payment at the end of the special financing term, without being prompted to make monthly payments during the no payment periods. I bought a fridge at Sears under one of these promotions. Because there is zero interest, it makes more sense to keep the money in an interest-bearing account and just pay it off at the end of the promotional period. The ability to set this up in Money would be useful. 4) the ability to assign multiple interest rates on one account. As with balance transfers above, different portions of credit card balances are subject to different APRs. Accurate financial planning requires that Money account for this. 5) the ability to store scanned receipts or online confirmation pages in an account ledger. So if I buy a book on Amazon with my checking account. I would be able to click a link in the checking account ledger to view a copy of the confirmation page from Amazon. Similarly, if I buy a bag of dog food at the grocery store, I would like to scan the receipt and be able to view it. This wouldn't be a bad idea for checks either - you could scan it just before sending it out. This would eliminate the need to keep paper copies of everything, and make it much easier to verify the accuarcy of ledger entries. Downloading things from the bank is useless if it's the bank's amount that you believe is incorrect from what was originally on the receipt.     - asset allocation When using the asset allocation functions/reports, ms money indicates under Money Market/Cash category, a value ($25K) that isn't there. I can track it to my brokerage account stock purchases. If I edit these transactions (remove transactions) it incorrectly increases the account balance by the same value $25K.     - Yet Another "update in progress" download problem. This started for me around the middle of January. Online updates have been working fine for me for years. I am presently using Money Deluxe 2006. I have tried a bunch of things in the other posts, such as putting in some trusted URL's, disabling firewalls etc. but none seem to get me working. I tried turning off online services for an account but then can't log back in. The one thing I have noticed is that if I create a new account, I can get online for the initial query, thereafter I get the "update in progress". Ditto when I upgraded to Money Deluxe 2007.     - Negative Cash Transaction Account Balance in 401k account Hi, I have a 401k investment account from a former employer,setup in Money 2006 DLX as a retirement account, tracking cash transactions. Though I no longer make contributions to it, I've left the Employee matching box checked. I used the Add Shares tranactions to initailly create the account to add the current investment balances for each individual fund position. I periodically download the dividend or other transactions from my Fidelity site to update the account. I haven't reconciled in a while but the account was in balance last time I checked. I don't remember what I did to get it all balanced, The transaction activity types in the investment accounts are a mix of Buy, Sell, Reinvest Interest & Reivest Dividends. The cash account shows Dividends and Exchange In/Out transactions. The Cash account Balance was zero at this point. With my last download the transactions came in as buy transactions increasing the investment account to the correct balances (share units ageed to my statements) with a corresponding negative buy(?) transaction in the cash account, leaving me with negative balance for the sum of the last downloaded transactions. I changed the trans. type of the newly downloaded items in the investment account to Reinvest Dividends which automatically deleted the original corresponding negative buy transactions in the cash account leaving the cash account with a zero balance again as it should be, and all is well. Is this the best way to track this account? I want to include it in Planning and Tax functions. Is there a better set up so I don't have to manually change the buys to reinvest?     - MS Money 2006 frustrations (reports and dloading bank information) So I've just recently installed the full retail version of MSMoney 2006 premium that's been sitting on my shelf for a year and I have a few problems that appear so basic in nature that I wonder if everyone else is having the same problems (and if so, why in the world would anyone actually use this product). OK, issue #1: MS Money provides this real nifty 'Spending by Category' report on the home page. Any CREDITS to any of the categories don't show. Example #1: I purchased a product, charged it to my credit card, then returned it a few days later. The report shows my SPENDING the money, but doesn't account for the credit for the return EVEN THOUGH the credit shows in the credit card ledger and both the purchase and the return are posted to the same spending category. Example #2: I was recently overcharged for a hotel stay out of town. The front desk at the hotel corrected the problem right there at the front desk. Since they had already overcharged my credit card before the billing error was detected, they simply issued a credit for the difference. Simple. The report in MS Money ONLY shows the (over)charge and NOT the corresponding credit even though both entries appear on the same credit card ledger, same date, same category (one a charge, one a credit). Example #3: I use the "Credit Card Payments/Transfers" category for all on-line credit card payments. Each time I make a payment, a charge(debit) for that payment appears in my checking account ledger and a credit appears in the credit card ledger (just as it should). Both these entries are posted to the same "Credit Card Payments/Transfers" category. The report ONLY shows the charge hitting my checking account and NOT the credits appearing in the credit card ledger. This seems to me like a real basic problem that would negatively affect every single MS Money user out there. Am I totally missing the boat here? For the life of me, I can't imagine a product being THAT bad. Problem #2: Anyone else out there use Washington Mutual for their checking accounts? Can you download trasactions reliably into MSMoney? Lord knows I can't. I'm trying to download transactions into MSMoney directly FROM MSMoney's synchronize 'feature'. It works for all my credit cards (100%), and works very rarely for my WAMU accounts. Sometimes I have to go into account settings and re-enter my passwords and it will work (once or twice). Usually it just doesn't work. If it NEVER worked, I'd say I'm doing something wrong. But it works about 20% of the time, so I'm reasonably assured that it's configured correctly. When it won't synchronize, I go to the www.wamu.com website and log-in just to make sure that the WAMU site is indeed working. Same conclusions as above here, Am I missing something here.     - Controlling a category in a report I have been using M2006 for a year and an bit and have the following question. I want to be able to control the inclusion or exclusion of a category in a report from the category itself. I realize I can customize a report, but if I have a category that I do not want in any reports it would be easier to just exclude it. Meaning it would be excluded from all reports unless I specifically customized a report to include it. Ying and yang so to speak. Basically, I want to control the reporting characteristics of the category from within the category and not from within the report. Sounds like a simple thing to do. I have MS Money 99 (spanish version) and cannot upgrade to MS Money 2006 (I
only have the english version) because when I try to open the MS Money 99
file, MS Money 2006 won't recognize it. Could this be because of the language

M99 is the latest Spanish version.

Because Money gets heavily localized to take into account Country tax laws
and financial practice you have to stay within region when upgrading. That
is why it won't recognize your '99 file in US 2006.
