    - Balancing an account MS Money 2004 Premium I've downloaded 3 months worth of checking statements to Money and the account balance is way off. I've tried to fix it with the "balance" feature, but keep making things worse, not better. Is there a step by step guide that someone can give me? I have my bank statements and think the following is the problem: My earliest downloaded statement starts with a transaction on November 3rd. My account balance (from my bank) and the balance that Money shows, are two entirely different numbers.     - Budgeted Income and Expense do not match I have MS Money 2004. I have created a budget, setting both expected income and expenses. If I click to edit monthly income, it shows a total of about $4,983.46. This is comprised of... Intrest 25.00 (monthly) Paycheck #1: 1,145.84 (twice a month: 1,145.84 x 2 = 2,291.68) Paycheck #2: 1,237.15 (Every other week: 1,237.15 x 2 = 2,474.30) ??????? 192.48 (this amount does not appear in the budgeted income) Total Monthly Income: $4983.46 (as shown in the edit income section) However, the discrepency appears on the main budget screen. I have "Current Month" as the Budget Period. Under the Budget Summary where it shows the Actual, Budgeted and Difference amounts, it shows a Budgeted monthly income of $8,388.20. Question 1: How would I find out which income category the 192.48 (????) appears? Note: I have every income category showing in my budget. I have not removed any of the categories. Question 2: Why doesn't the monthly budgeted income on the Budget summary page match the monthly budgeted income on the Edit budget income screen? Thanks in advance.     - money2004 hanging on updates I upgraded from money2003 to money2004 last night, then went to online updates. The program can download my bank transactions but when it gets to "updating securities and news" it hangs. I cancel, and it hangs on "cancelling call".     - certificate of deposit Thnking about purchasing Money, now have Quicken. My Portfolio contains all types of investments but also a portion is Certificates of Deposits.     - Problem with printing continuous feed checks Does anyone have experience with printing continuous feed checks? When the last check prints it printer does not "line feed" sufficiently for me to tear off the last check. I have been using Parsons Moneycounts for 13 years and it works flawlessly. The only problem is that, since it was invented pre-internet, it cannot download data from financial institutions. I figured I would move on the Money (or Quicken) to make use of the latest technology, but if I can't tear off my last check I'm not sure I like the trade off. Moneycounts has enough "line feeds" at the end of printing to move the tear line between the checks past the print head. Money seems to put all of them at the beginning of the print routine. I am using an IBM Proprinter that I dedicated to my checks so I can leave the check stock in the printer. I gave this whole song-and-dance so you understand where I am coming from.     - balances that don't make sense I've had Money 2002 Deluxe since it came out. I've gone through the setup thing at least 20 times and I still have problems getting any statements that make sense. For example, I recently did the setup again and for my checking account at Citibank, I entered the amount from my last statement. Later, I downloaded my statement from Citibank. Everything seemed fine. The amount in my register actually matched what my online Citibank statement said. A day later, my Money register shows that I have a LOT more money than what I have in my account per my Citibank online. When I went to Citibank online and downloaded everything since the previous download, the number in my Money register changed somewhat but I still have a large difference between my Money register and what I show online with Citibank. On the flipside, my Amex account shows that I have a negative balance with them (the number is red and in parentheses) even though I do background banking with Amex and I currently owe a small amount.     - Can't unmatch a transaction I have downloaded my statment from my bank. One of the transactions was very different than expected by money, so it was not matched. I tried to match it using the "change" option, but when I got to the correct transaction, in the "review transaction details" screen, it was dimmed. Double clicking it opened a box saying "You can not select this transaction because it was already match to a downloaded transaction (XYZ)". But such a transaction was never downloaded! In fact the XYZ is the transaction that the money expected to get. Its not a big deal but if that will happen many times, its going to be a problem. Any ideas?     - Password I exported Money as I received a new laptop. Installed Money and attempted to 'restore' the last version. It starts up fine then prompts me for a password and wont open the file until it gets one. I use only a few passwords and none of them work.     - Items To Review I recently opened Microsoft Money 2004, and a large number of my transactions were marked as un-accepted (transactions I had already accepted). I chose "Reconcile Transactions - Accept All Transactions" from the Common Tasks menu on the side, and then the Items To Review count went to (-1). Does anyone know how to correct this?     - Downloaded transactions showing up reconciled I just upgraded from 2003 to Money 2004. When the new version downloads my credit card transactions (automatically), it marks them as 'R'. I've tried turning off the 'Automatically mark accepted transactions as reconciled (R)' flag in Options-Online Services, but that isn't the problem. They are downloading as reconciled before I even go to the accept screen. How do I get transactions to download with an 'E' by default?     - Best way to save money towards a purchase? Hello. I am putting aside some money to buy a computer as a graduation gift for a relative. I want to put away $200 a month until June. What is the best way to do this in money. The simple way I am doing it now(and I am sure it will screw up some forecasts and budgets) is to have a transaction in my register of my checking account dated next year sometime(so it sits at the bottom) and I increment it by 200 bucks every month...     - money 2003 account balance doesn't work on notebook. purchased and installed money 2003 on my desktop previously and money 2003 also came preinstalled on my new hp zd7000 notebook. when balancing account, the first screen pops up fine on both machines ... but when i enter starting balance and press next on desktop it works fine but on notebook, it just sits there. i click next repeatedly and nothing happens. i had copied the money backup file from my desktop to my notebook, restored it, checked the totals, and everything seemed ok. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks, mike Tag: Money 2004 - mis.exe running after close Tag: 159513

    - Do not have a "Investments to Watch" category Running Money 2003. Many moons ago I started using money with a Quicken conversion and have been upgrading yearly since. I was reading up and found that I am supposed to have an "Investments to Watch" account. I don't. Now I know why I was always getting those "you haven't downloaded any prices for S&P" messages.     - Price/Balance Updates Since 1/14/04, whenever I try to update the prices in my portfolio, I get a successful update, but the prices and the "Last Updated' date has not changed.     - Updating securities causes freeze-up Most of the time when I update securities MSMoney hangs. When I use Task Manager to end it, it gives me a message that the program is waiting for some input from me. If it is a scheduled update that hangs, I can still try to do a manual update which may or may not work. I have deselected all old/unused securities from the update process. If I use the Internet for anything else while it is sending/receiving it will hang. Sometimes it will work if, after restarting MSMoney, I stop the MIS.exe and Mnyschdl.exe services. If I don't stop them it never works. I am using Money 2002 OEM (Came with a Dell) on XP Home with 256mg of RAM. I've had this problem for a long time-- I've put up with it because my data doesn't transfer to on DSL and Cable modem connections. Thanks for any help, in advance.     - Any way to automatically distribute 401(k) contrib to each fund? I set up Money 2004 to record my wife's paycheck, including the portion that is put into her 401(k). To keep track of the 401(k), I split that amount out into each mutual fund in the account. My question is this: do I have to manually split the 401 (k) money up every time or is there a way I can tell Money to put 15% in this fund, 20% in that fund, etc., and have it done automagically?     - ING Direct Online Services w/ Money 2004 Standard on XP I have an OEM version of Money 2004 standard edition on my laptop. I recently opened an ING savings account and tried to set up web services. It shows that they have direct download services to money. However, when I try to set up web services, it asks for a userid and password before it can connect. ING only gives me a customer number and a PIN number. These don't work on trying to start up online services. Calling ING, they say the customer number and PIN are what I should be using. Playing with it in Money, if I leave the password blank and fill in my customer number, it asks for a userid and password. If I put in an all number pin which mine may be, it says the password may not contain numeric characters. If I put in an all letter pin, it says your password cannot contain alphabetic characters. Even entering information and checking a report shows it with A on the bottom and Z items on the top.     - Unmatching transactions The help is weird. This is something I've often had a problem with. Money doens't match up a transaction that d/l from the bank. I change and choose the one to match it with and it's gray. It says see help... "Unmatch transactions in a bank or credit card account 1.. In the account register , click the transaction you want to unmatch, and then click Change . 2.. Do one of the following: a.. To keep the bank item as a separate transaction in your register, click Don't match these transactions . b.. To match the bank item to something else in your register, click Match the bank transaction to a different item , and select the check box or check boxes for the register items you want to match to the bank item. If the transaction you want to match it to is dimmed, it has been matched to another item. You will have to unmatch that transaction before you can select it. 3.. Click Done . " Notice the last paragraph. And this is supposed to tell us how to do just that!!! Catch 22 I guess is in full force. Anyone know how to make this work?     - Using money on another computer I am using Microsoft Money 2003 D&B. I have my computer networked with my secretaries computer. I want her to pay my bills on her computer. I tried installing money 2003 on her computer (after uninstalling on mine) and it appeared to install properly but when I try and start it using the desktop icon that was installed it pops on and then off with no error message. I use Windows 98 on her computer as there are some old programs I use that only work on that operating system. Any solutions or suggestions. Also is there anyway to use this program over the network so that it can be installed on 1 machine and used on either one. For instance I would like her to pay the biills bu tI would like to generate and review reports on mine. Would I have to buy 2 programs to mak ethis work.     - currency conversion of investment In Money 2004 Canadian addition I tried to enter a purchase of US stocks. After much trial and error I discovered I had to enter the price in Canadian dollars and let Money convert it automatically back to US dollars. But now the transaction is recorded as being far less than the actual purchase amount which gives me an immediate large gain showing which is incorrect. All other aspects of the transaction and its display seem to be working. I can find no instructions on how to work with investements demoninated in foriegn currencies. I am using Windows XP Pro and Money 2004. When I shut
down the computer, I often get a message that MIS.EXE is
not responding. To conclude it and proceed with the shut
down, I click "end". Has anyone encountered this issue?
Please note, I do not have Money open when shutting down.
