Running MS Money 2000 on a recent IBM ThinkPad with
Windows 2000. When working in .mny file (size ~5MB), CPU
usage frequently goes up to 100%, goes down occassionally,
but is generally very high. Any browsing within .mny
file, new entries, even mouse movements cause the CPU
usage to shoot up. System behaves normally otherwise, is
new and well-guarded (no infections, no ad-/spyware,
etc.) Same behaviour also occurred on different, somewhat
older ThinkPad. Anybody having the same problem or any
thoughts?

My only thought is that "generally very high"/100% CPU usage is not a de
facto bad thing. You didn't buy the computer for it so sit there doing
nothing, did you?

You have a point. What makes the high CPU usage a "bad
thing" is that it sets off the system fan. And that fan
turns the ThinkPad from whisperquiet into rather noisy.
That .mny files cause high CPU usage may actually be
normal. If you use MS Money, could you run the task
manager, check what the CPU usage is and post it here?

Generally very high. On my desktop, where Money is usually used, I also
search for extraterrestrials, so the CPU usage is essentially always at
100%. Any cycles not getting used by Money or whatever else get soaked up by
SETI@home. Of course the system doesn't get louder or I might not do this.
On my Sony R505, I would find the noise annoying. There isn't much you can
do besides considering turning off feedback in the register window. See
http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=4. I'm not sure if this was an option in
M2K.

Desktop PC- Win XP Pro - Money 2004

Whenever I open any of the menus > File, Edit, Favorites, Tools...CPU usage
goes to 100%.
Not sure if that's a problem or not.
The program works fine otherwise.

It may well be normal and not a problem. Thanks for your
response.
