I am having the automatic update problem with Money 2007, in which
every time I start it up, it prompts me for the update even though it
has already been through it and supposedly "successfully" updated. I
found the post suggesting uninstalling IE7, and I tried that, but to
no avail. I wonder if anyone has any other suggestions. I found my
update log, and will post it here:

Be sure that your Money and backup files are moved to a spot that
you will have full privileges to, such as Documents/MyDocuments.
If they are in a place like ProgramFiles, Vista will create an
impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the user
explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose RunAsAdministrator
that time.

Start Money 2007 in Vista by Right-clicking the Money icon and
choose RunAsAdmistrator to let updates happen. Then reboot the
computer. Check that the Money 2007 version is 16.0.150.1303.

If that is insufficient, you may want to refer to

Thanks for the reply. However (and this is probably my fault for not
mentioning) I am not running Vista. I'm running XP SP2. Otherwise,
the symptoms are the same. And my money files have been located in my
documents since the beginning. Any other suggestions?

I should also add that the updates are not taking, because my version
is still 16.0.150.614.

Take a backup of your Money file, and ensure you have a copy of the original
installation media somewhere.

With Money not running, delete the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money
2007\MNYCoreFiles.NEW folder, and see whether the download comes down again.
If it gets completely screwed up after doing that, maybe a reinstall would
be needed. If not, try also the KB that Cal mentioned

Ok, well I looked, and unfortunately I do not appear to have any
folder "MNYCoreFiles.NEW". Maybe this is part of the problem? I
don't know, but I have tried reinstalling twice now, and it does not
seem to fix it. Thanks for the suggestion, any others?

In IE, start with
Tools->Options->Security->LocalIntranet->DefaultLevel which may be
sufficient.

If that does not let you updated, and if you are using XP, I would
try creating a new user with Administrator privilege. Switch to
that user and start Money with a new blank file. Let Money
download the updates as that user.

The theory is that if the problem is an IE setting, you will get
default settings for the new user. If you succeed this way, it
would accomplish the download, and it would point toward the reason
the other did not work. You can delete the new user later, and
your regular IE6 settings will not have been changed.

If you still have a problem, it is probably your software firewall
blocking things.

Thanks for all your help. I finally got it solved by trying it in
Safe Mode. I'm up to version 1303. Thanks again!

Your fix for updating money 2007 in safe mode works. I had the same problem
on several computers and they all updated without any issues.
Boot your comuter into safe mode (F8) and choose safe mode with networking.
Update Money and it should work.
Thanks
