    - Subcategories I just upgraded to Money 2005 and find a useful feature is missing. I have been using Money for the last 7 years and enjoyed using a category and subcategory for my expenses. Now these two items are combined in one dropdown box and very hard to use. I used to use a category then tab to the subcategory and pick an item. Now when I pick a category the subcategories are not visible unless I use the mouse to scroll through. All previous versions gave an option of using one box or two but in the latest version I can't find how to get the two boxes back. Any ideas? Thanks.     - money 2005 update I have money 2004 and everything works great even with my bank. Updated to 2005, the program just locks up after it converted the file. Used the money repair program and it fixed something with the bills and desposits.Money 2005 will load now, but it won't update with my bank. It says application or version not supported, but everything works great except this so far. I contacted my bank and they support money 2005.     - stop ads Every time I open Money 2003 I get two ads on my desktop, one from ING Direct and one from Bank One. I have done the tools/options/turn off ads routine with no change.     - Money 2005 SB can't open Money 2004 File Hello all, I just upgrade Money 2004 to 2005, both Small Business version. I have 2 money files, one created in 2004 the other created in Money 98 and upgraded every year till 2004. The first one gets converted to 2005 without any problem. But the 2nd one can't be converted. Money 2005 said it is either locked or protected or corrupt. But it has no problem at all in 2004 I've tried to delete all accounts in this file but one to elimilate causes of problems but still have no luck. Can anybody help?     - Updates to M2005 In the past versions (and also in M2005, I bet), MS has quietly and secretly (I think the word is appropriate) updates Money without telling us when the changes were made and what the changes entailed. Everytime we sync accounts, we would get a msg saying "Your Call was successful" under Money updates. I hated that. I'd rather know when the updates have been released, what they cover, and then decide whether to apply the "patch". Like many, I am waiting for the 1st major update to M2005 before buying, installing, and trying M2005.     - Dates on tracked payments I just upgraded to 2003 from 2000. I transfered all my setting over and have been having trouble entering common transactions like my upcoming bills and paychecks. When I select a common transaction from my checking account Bills list Money lists the upcoming date correctly. When I click on this transaction to enter it the date is from a month ago.     - Duplicate Transactions I create invoices for my customers who order from my website. I then process their credit card through my merchant account. That money is then deposited into my business checking account(less transaction fee)and the transaction is downloaded from the bank into the account.     - How do you track returns/refunds in your register? I buy a lot of stuff, and as a result, I also end up changing my mind and returning things pretty often. I keep all of my transactions detailed and categorized, but when I enter a negative value (say, a 20$ credit on my credit card for a movie I returned), it's obvious that Money doesn't know what to do with it. It warns me that I'm adding a credit as an expense. Then, many of Money's reports count this as an expense (ignoring that it should be counted as -20$). I fear that the correct answer might be to simply delete the purchase transaction, and the return transaction, but this will make it more difficult to keep my register and my bank's register in sync. Any ideas?     - spending thermometers Help! For some reason or another I can't figure it out, I lost my spending thermometer on a budget item. It shows up in the budget as having a budget amount but when I enter in a transaction it says I have a budget amount of zero and to enter a spending limit.     - Money 2005: "Spending by Category" says "No data to display"? Hi all, On the Home tab under "Spending by Category" I see: 8/30/04 through 9/28/04 No data to display Well, I do have spending during that time frame. I imagine that the "Spending by Category" thingy is looking in the wrong account(s) and needs to be reconfigured. But I can't for the life of me figure out how -- when I right click it there's no "Customize" option or similar. Any ideas on how to fix this? P.S. I'm able to get data if I click the Reports tab and then "Spending by Category". It's only the "Spending by Category" section of the Home tab that isn't working.     - ofc files Hi, I have been using Money from ver 2003 and I have been downloading transactions in ofc files and it worked (i.e. imported to my account in Money) fine in 03 and 04. Now I have just upgraded my 2004 to 2005 and M05 wouldn't recognize (i.e. associate them in explorer) my ofc files.     - M05-spikes CPU? I installed MS Money 2005 Deluxe about 2 days ago. Everything seems to be working fine. However, I've noticed the CPU utilization spikes to 90- 95% causing the mouse to jump.     - Getting "This page cannot be diplayed" I have been getting the "This page cannot be diplayed" when I click on either the Investing, Planning, or Taxes button. When I am connected to the Internet it works fine, but sometimes I want to check my Debt Reduction Planner or check on how I am doing with my tax situation without having to get online. Why does Money require you to be connected to the Internet just to switch over to these modules? Is this an issue with Money 2005 Premium or is there a way to get around it.     - Turning off commercial links being saved to my Desktop I am using MicroSoft Money 2004 Deluxe. Recently, it has started saving ad links on my Desktop when I do my online updates. If I remove the links from my desktop they show up again. Are other experiencing the same? I am not interested in having my desktop filled with commercial junk.     - Money 2005 SB / Invoice Designer BUG I have read a number of you are having this same issue. When I created my first invoice and saved it, and closed invoice designer, it was not in the list when I opened it next. So I created it again, and this time exported it so I knew where the INV file was saved. I then went to import it into Money and got an error saying it could not be imported because Money cannot import files created before July, 2002. WTF? I contacted live chat support who said the issue was too complex and to call MS support at 425-635-2030 but this is obviously a bug so I know there won't be a work around.     - Installing Money 2005 Deluxe I want to install Money Deluxe 2005 over 2003. An install screen tells me that an older version has been detected and it wants clearance to delete 2003, however, it doesn't tell me if it is going to preserve my data and move that data to the new version, upon deleting the old version.     - Money 04 and TD Waterhouse I called TD Waterhouse today and received my log in information, unfortunatley I received 2 different log ins. One for my wife's accounts and one for my accounts. The question is, I do not see where I can input both log ins for money. I only see 1 area for the log in information.     - Budgets and Credit Cards I am trying to set up my budget in Money. I have several credit cards with outstanding balances. I want to set up my budget to make sure I can afford to make at least the minimum payments each month. I have each credit card account set up in Money and my checking account set up. The payments are showing up under each account fine. The trouble is I can't figure out how to track these payments in the budget. The budget appears to be able to track the intrest paid to the credit cards fine but the principle portion of the payments does not appear to be accounted for.     - Override downloaded ticker symbol I download my portfolio from TD Waterhouse which I think uses the CUSIP symbol to represent options and not the .xxxxx symbol. I have a number of accounts and often I have the same option in both. Money always asks if this is the same equity or option as another one, lets me select it from the list, but it refuses to accept that I want to keep the existing symbol. It pops up that confusing Yes No Cancel dialog and just goes in circles. Any way to get around this?     - Import Smith Barney Excel.csv data I would like to import my Smith Barney statements to MS Money2003 via the SB, Portfolio, Download transactions method. When I did this, it created an Excel.cvs. When I went back to MSMoney, I could not figure out how to import the excel file data. It discusses imports of Quicken QIF or an OFC file, but does not mention .csv, or any other .extension choice that SB gave me -that I could see. Smith Barney says I can import the Excel file to Money, but they refuse to tell me how once I have created the file from their website. I do not want to use the SB $3monthly automatic method.     - Money 2005---wait awhile I have upgraded Money several times over the years, and might again from 2004 to 2005. However, I have been REALLY stupid in doing it. I also use TaxCut every year. If you wait until Tax Cut comes out (late in 2004) you nearly always get a coupon for a huge discount (or free) Money. The last couple years, Money 2004 and Money 2003 Standard was "free" with the mail in thing. Deluxe was something like $20 off. I am only pointing this out to my fellow Money users, so you don't waste money unless you HAVE to have the new version right away. Also, never buy TaxCut from H.R. Block. It's a huge rip-off. Getting the rebate was a pain (did this twice), delivery was slow and I had to pay shipping. Buy it at Staples---got there the same day H.R.Block started to ship, was cheaper, had a rebate and delivery took only as long as the car ride home. The only advantage of buying direct from H.R.     - Money 2003 -> 2005 Upgrade When I upgraded to M05 from M03, I thought it was going to be flawless. Yeah, right. I synched with my banks, and M05 created new accounts. I tried to use the Merge Accounts "feature", but neither my original account or the newly created account were in there. I had to remove online services from both accounts, delete the newly created account, re-add online account access, and re-synch with the bank.     - MS Money XML Report Format Does anyone know where I can find a formal description of the XML report format Microsoft Money uses when you save a report as XML? I am thinking of an XML Schema or DTD, but a textual description would be good (or possibly even better) as well. I have had a look at a few examples from my own Money file and it doesn't look too complex. But as I want to parse these files in my own program, I would like to understand all the possible permutations and combinations which could be produced under a whole range of circumstances.     - Initial REaction to 2005 Yuck. Ok, it isn't that bad though I cannot find a thing yet. It made me change my password to my bank before it would update (download in 2005 speak) and wouldn't update Morgan Keegan last night. This morning it wouldn't update Morgan Keegan or Fidelity. And it scares you to death with rows and rows of error messages though it seems just not to connect. It updates faster and maybe doesn't try as many times. I don't know.     - Money 2005 won't let me pay my credit card bill I have my credit card setup as an account in Money 2005 as well as my bank account which is linked to msn bill pay. When I attempt make an online payment to my credit card company Money insists on transferring funds between accounts and will not let me submit a payment request via msn bill pay.     - SP2 Issue on Sharing a Money 2005 File One of the features I was interesting in with Money 2005 was the ability to share the file with another .NET Passport. I can't make this work. First Microsoft Technical support confirmed that having Windows XP SP2 installed causes a problem - I would just get the rotating arrow and no box to enter the 2nd .NET Passport. I then installed Money on 2 different machines with Windows XP SP1, and tried again, even starting with a brand new Money file and new .NET Passports. I was able to go further, but after inputing the 2nd .NET Passport, then being asked to sign in, I got that same stupid rotating arrow that never went away, no timeout, no cancel button. I have given up and have gone back to Money 2004 because there is not enough in Money 2005 considering what I give up. I would think Microsoft would be embarrased to release a new product that has an issue with SP2, AFTER SP2 was released. Has anyone been sucessful to use this new feature in Money 2005?     - Why the large YLPGSCAT.DAT? I'm trying to set up a backup regime on my PC (W2K) and so am having a look at files on my system. I have MS Money 2003 installed and it has created a file "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Money\11.0\Webcache\ylpgscat.dat" that takes up 11MB. Why is it there? I don't know if there is a requirement for Webcaching that requires me to have this file. Is there a list (anywhere) that contains file listings saying what a file is and giving information on whether it is useful or not? Wouldn't it be a great idea if we could pool our resources and experiences and produce a document of that sort? (idealistic, I know... but I'm relatively new to this game). Anyone with any ideas?     - Money 2001 Std vs 2004 or 2005 Hi, I'm considering upgrading from Money 2001 Std. to either 2004 or 2005 and interested in your experience/opinions. Is mostly to keep my software current as Money 2001 is robust enough for my needs, though I worry that eventually the banks will only accept software that is just a couple of years old. Interested in any major improvements to newer versions and especially in any drawbacks having to do with removal or replacement of features. About the only bad behavior I encounter in Money 2001 is when it labels transactions imported on bank statements after previous transactions having nothing to do with the current one. For instance... If I charge record a check for $60 and make it payable to Bank #1, Money sometimes labels a whole bunch of transactions the same way. Doesn't even have to be similar names or amounts. Sometimes its just too "intuitive" for its own good. Is minor annoyance, but still out there. One major concern I have about newer versions is "too much security". Let me explain: I am running multiple copies of my WIN XP Pro OS on multiple hard drives within the same computer. These are perfectly legal clones of the OS on the first hard drive and its just one of those redundancy (or paranoia) things I tend to do. I normally install applications to anything but "C" drive, but of course they still place lines in the Windows registry. When I installed Money 2001 I encountered a situation where the program generated a unique license or ID number for each installation, thereby interfering with my system or method of installing from or onto each operating system partition, but having all of the OS's share one instance of the application's files (i.e. Winxp 1 on disk 0 and Winxp 2 on disk 1 which are both "C" partitions, actually used the Money Installation on a logical drive "E" for instance). I found a work around and exported the registry branch for Money 2001 from one XP OS's partition and imported to both of the others after logging onto them. It worked and I have had no operational problems since. However....Does anyone use a setup at least remotely similar to mine, and if so, were you able to access Money from the first OS Partition on which you installed it after having added it to another OS Partition within your system? If I'm not able to install Money on each partition as described above, I may as well stick with old version. Thanks for any ideas/input/feedback.     - Unable to retrieve back up from USB drive I had my money 2003 backup file on a USB drive. Had to reformat the hard drive and re-install money. Now I am unable to restore my data from the USB drive. After opening Money, attempting to restore from back up, i get the error, "cannot locate C:\documents and settings\my documents\my money or cannot open it, possibly because it is a read only file or you do not have permission to change it or your disk drive is write protected." any ideas why it will not allow me to do this? Recurring Invoices should be something they should have added by now since it would make my life easier every month come billing time and the invoice designer does nto work!!!!!!!!!!!!     - Money Deluxe 2004 trial upgrade problems I downloaded the trial for deluxe a couple of months ago and recently, through money, upgraded to the real version for $42.50. They gave me a number which i stupidly didn't write down. Then something downloaded onto my computer and the "trial version" seemed to go away. The very next day I go to it and it says "trial version" again. My questions are: 1. Will i be sent a cd of money in the mail soon? 2.
