Hi, I am currently using Money 2004. Money was working fine up until last
night. The only change I have done is backup up all my files (Money files
included) to an external hard drive. At this time I noticed a Money file
with a .lrd extension that was on my backup drive but not on my main drive
(so I deleted it, would appear to be a mistake!!). Now if I open my .mbf
file, Money opens, asks me to restore, asks for my password for my file
(which I enter), and then opens with my data for the briefest of time and
then the program shuts down, does not freeze, just disappears. If I then try
to open the newly created .mny file it does the same thing, asks for my
password (which I enter), Money then opens with my data for the briefest of
time and then the program shuts down.

I have tried opening Money and creating a new file. Then from within Money
open and either restore or repair the old files, but I get the same result or
it will open and just freeze.

Help.

The lrd file is a lock indicator that tells Money that it is already
running.

Thanks for the quick response Bob,

If this file is present and Money detects this file, would that cause it to
shut down? Do I need to delete this file or do I need it?

If I can expand my original post with the following observations:

When I open my new (blank) Money file, a file with extension .lrd is created
in the same folder and remains there whilst I am working on the file, as soon
as I close the Money file, the .lrd file disappears from the folder.

When I open my old data Money file (from a different file location) the
following occurs - 1) if the .lrd file is present in the folder already the
old data file will open for the briefest of moments and then shut down - 2)
if the .lrd file is not present in the folder, the old data file will open
and the program will freeze.

It appears as you have said Bob that the.lrd file is some sort of indicator
that Money is open or not, however it does not seem to be happy if the .lrd
file is there or not!!

I have re-installed Money and because the new data file works OK I am
concluding that the Program itself is OK, the only thing I can think of is
that there is some sort of error in the old data file??

Is there a way that I can somehow extract/import all of the data/records
from the old data file into a new file and save all of my years of work??

First, make a copy of your main *.mny and latest *.mbf file onto
another medium such as a USB flash drive. That way if your hard
drive were to fail you would have those saved.

I would then open Money by double-clicking your latest *.mbf file
from Windows Explorer. Do not restore to the default location
offered, but browse to your MyDocuments folder and choose a new name
to restore to.

If that file is satisfactory, let that be your new main Money file
from there.

Review your backup procedures.

One more thing you may want to try first: with your new empty file
open, go to Tools->Settings->ProgramSettings and set the
(GeneralDisplay:)StartMoneyWithThisPageOpen:AccountList

Open the problem file once or twice.

Then in that problem file, go to
Tools->Settings->HomePageDisplayOptions and Remove the
Investment Performance module. There has been a problem where a
lot of investments triggers a crash upon opening where Money opens
to the "Home Page".

Cal

Absolutely spot on. Did as you advised in your two posts and it worked a
treat. As you said, there appears to be a problem with the Investment
Performance module; as soon as I removed it the file remained open and the
file is now usable again.

Thank you

I must say this forum has helped me on two occasions now with quick and
precise fixes to my Money program problems. Thanks again.
