I have installed MS Money 2004 on a Windows 2000 machine.
I like to connect to the Windows 2000 machine using the
Remote Desktop feature.

When connecting through Remote Desktop, I am unable to
open Money. When Money 2004 attempts to access the file
it reports that the file name has improper characters.
When I open the same file from the console, it opens
fine. Lastly, if I remote desktop in as administrator,
Money 2004 opens the file as well.

Any ideas?

This could be an access permissions thing with remote desktop. Go to the
terminal services configuration on the 2000 machine and right click on the
RDP transport (assuming you're using RDP). In the permissions tab off
properties, check that the account you are using has full control access
permissions in terminal server mode.

Glyn,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the account I am
using for RDP has full control per the permissions tab in
the terminal services configuration, so I believe the
issue is not permission related.

The My Money.mny file is being created in the My Documents
folder with full control permissions. That, I think, is
quite interesting - it appears as though Money 2004 is
creating the file then displays an error about unable to
create the file. If I attempt to open the file directly,
Money reports it has been installed incorrectly. I have
not tried opening the same file from console.

Again, thanks for the input - hope you have more!

Have you tried a different directory? (say, one not under 'my documents')?

Glyn,

Not sure what trying a different directory would
accomplish, but I gave it a go. Tried it on the shared
drive, same behavior. Tried it on the c:\ drive, same
behavior.

I'm thinking this might be a bug. Thoughts?

Thanks again.
