    - MS Money 2005 Premium-No Color Charts or Graphs I've recently upgraded to 2005 Premium from 2002 Standard and although I never had color graphs or charts in 2002 , and never bothered to fix it , I want color in 2005. The pictures of the charts and graphs in the user manual are all in color. I'm wondering if it is that I'm missing files or is it a hardware problem? I've undated with all the new updates and I have no other computer problems or display problems involving color. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this?     - Bill Summary and Transactions from Account Register I am using Money 2006 Standard Edition; I am trying to find out how I can prevent Money from showing a bill as paid when a transaction that is a similar amount to a bill on my Bill Summary List? For example, a gas purchase for $20 enters account register but Money removes a bill (21.00) from Bill Summary list and shows as paid when it has not been. This happens with several transactions.     - M07 advanced investment charting One of the things I can't get to work in M07 Premium is the advanced investment charting. This the screen you get when you click on the chart for a particular investment in the Portfolio view. It bascially takes you to Investment Home and shows a large chart for the investment you licked on. In M06 you could download an Advanced Chart function from MSN that gave you larger/better charts with more information such as volume and dividends. In M07 the advanced charts just don't work.     - Spinoff/Demerger Corporate Events Folks, Having given this matter some thought, I have come to the conclusion that demerger corporate events cannot be handled correctly in Microsoft Money. My understanding is that the demerger option in money merely operates by adding shares at a certain basis cost. The problem with this is which cost does one use? For the newly created share, there seem to be two costs that are relevant. One cost is the actual basis cost of the position from a tax point of view. The second relevant cost is the cost of the position using the market price on the first day of trading. If you take the first view, the gains from a tax perspective are correct, as I admit is also the lifetime to date profitability of the position. But it has the effect of accelerating the profit of the position into a small timescale making a nonsense of performance reports (when broken down by individual periods). If you take the second point of view, the performance reports are correct, but the gain from a tax perspective is incorrect. Let me give an example: I hold a share for a couple of years which appreciates by 50% over that course of time. In the previous month, a demerger event occurs and I receive a number of shares in a new company. If the basis cost of these shares is taken to be from a tax position, then that 50% gain is accelerated into a single month giving an absurdly high monthly return on capital. If one ensures that the cost of the position is the price from the first day of trading, the monthly return on capital report makes sense, but of course the cost of the position no longer corresponds to the cost from a taxation point of view. I wondered if anyone else had a point of view on this; if my line of reasoning is correct, it implies every position really needs two costs, one is the value of the position from the time that the new position was created, and a second cost representing the basis cost of the position from a tax point of view. It seems to me that if you use Microsoft Money you have to make a choice as to which you want to track: profitability per unit time (month or whatever), or gains which are correct from a tax perspective. I am writing from the United Kingdom, where demergers are not treated as sales, but the basis cost of the old position is apportioned to the two new positions in a manner agreed with our tax authority; although I understand the tax treatment is similar in the United States. I am a bit of a geek, and I like to track my portfolio profitability by each month and quarter, and look at how profit is distributed over different time periods; I use it to track and try and estimate share and portfolio volatility. So maybe this doesn't affect too many people! There have been many posts on the topic of demergers in this board, but they all seem to focus on getting the correct basis cost for the new position, which has the unfortunate side effect of accelerating previous gains (in the old position) into the time period immediately following the new position, giving absurdly high returns on capital.     - Money 2007 Crashes with a large number of Stocks I have a problem that I've been able to narrow down to this: I have an a large number (99) of investments (stocks/bonds/indexes,etc). and Everytime I add the 100th investment, Money crashes. I've tried loading the program on 2 seperate machines with the same results. Faulting application msmoney.exe, version 16.0.0.621, faulting module msvcr80.dll, version 8.0.50727.42, fault address 0x0000e4da.     - Money 2006 / IE7 I installed IE7 RC1. When I try to sign on online, I immediately get a message telling me my signon cannot be verified and to check my internet connection. (See my earlier posts for details). I uninstalled IE7 and still had the same problem. I then uninstalled Money, ran Registry Mechanic to get rid of anything IE7, reinstalled Money, and STILL have the problem! I also tried signing on to the money website as suggested eslwhere, and that did nothing. Note also I can go to websites from within Money with no problem - IE7 or IE6.     - Invoicing Question We have started a new business & are using MS Money 2005. I created an invoice for the total amount of money due from the cleint. The client paid us 1/2 of the money. (We require half up front, and half upon completion of our work). The invoice shows the total amount due, and no indication of the payment received excect a small note "part payment". How can I reflect the amount received already on the invoice? The client statement shows the payment. As does the balance due in the invoice screen.     - Cannot Delete Account I have recently started using Money 2007. I added an investment (401k) account and imported years worth of data (1000+ transactions). I decided that I don't need the historical data and instead of deleting each individual transaction I want to delete the account and re-add it with less data. When I try to delete the account I get an error "this operation cannot be performed". Why will money not allow me to delete this account?     - Portfolio does not Display Besides buying Money 2007, is there anything else I can try to get my Portfolio View back? I have 2005 Premium. When I click on the Portfolio button, the page displays but none of my data is displayed. But if I go to Accounts they are there. I've tried changing the View in Select View, and the dates but still nothing. BTW, this was working great for more than a 18 mos, then what seemed like all of a sudden, it stopped working.     - Improvements To Money In Money 2005 the categories and subcategories have been added to one menu drop down. This is a real pain as a search using the first letter of the catergories often finds a sub catergoriy instead of the category you want. One of the options in the program settings should be to use the combined categories and sub categories in one drop down box or to use them separately as in all previous earlier versions of Ms Money I know you can set up short cut key to go to the subcategories but I have over 200 categories and sub categories and it would be impossible to remember the short cut keys to all of these hence using the first few letter is easiest and has been consist in all previous versions. I would also like to see facilities added in the investment accounts to track imputation credits for Australian shares.     - Money for Pocket PC I would appreciate a warning that you have not developed the Pocket PC version before encouraging an upgrade. I purchased 2006 and a month later went ahead and purchased 2007 due to issues I was having with 2006, only to find out you don't have the pocket pc version for 2007 out yet! This has totally screwed up the way I use money and I am furious. Of course, I can't go back to 2006 now because of all the issues with going backwards.     - Money 2004 not updating share prices I have been using Money for 7 years to track investments. Until last Saturday (31st October 2006), "Update Prices Online" updated my share portfolio and some indices. Since Monday, the shares (held on the Australian Stock Exchange) have not updated, although some indices (for example, the Dow Jones)has comtinued to update.     - Internet Explorer 7 and Money 2006 After installing IE7, when I try to sign on I get the message, ""Your sign-in information could not be verified. Please check your internet connection and try again, or select the Work Offline check box to work offline." Working offline, I am able to download statements from the banks, but not update quotes. The Call summary messages says: "Money was unable to connect to the online quotes server. Check your internet connection and try the operation again."     - Warning: Money 2007 Deluxe I thought I would try 007 out and so downloaded it. It looks very much the same as 2006 but it may have been faster. The new simple budget thing is pretty stupid, as is the hype MSN story about it. Hasn't anyone ever heard of 'pay yourself first' budgeting?? I digress. I left the program and tried to start it up again. It wants a password??? I don't use a password. The file it was trying to open was at the end of a very long pathname so I don't know what it was trying to open, but have to assume it was the one that was just converted from 006. But I don't use a password. I tried my Passport password (but it doesn't know my account name, nor is there a place to enter it). I tried a bunch of my common passwords, and I used some raunchy ones when I got frustrated. So I quit, and uninstalled 007. Oops. The uninstall process has corrupted my copy of 006, it seems. I purposely left 006 on the disk so I could look at both. Stupid me I guess; but once again MS seems to be total boobs when it comes to consumer software. Maybe they get paid too much to care.     - Transfers out of budget accounts In my Bills & Deposits list, I include a monthly deposit into a college savings fund: this is done as a direct deposit from my checking account. If I understand the "Accounting 101" concepts, this isn't an expense, because it's just moving a chunk of my money from one account to another. But it shows up in my Budget Planner under "Transfers out of Budget Accounts." Additionally, last month I repaid a chunk of money from my checking account to another savings account--this showed up as an unbudgeted expense on my Budget Planner under "Transfers out of Budget Accounts."     - Investment account balance wrong I'm using MS Money 2004. I have an investment account. My MSMoney balance for this account is way of what the balance at the brokerage's site is reporting. Not sure what I did wrong in setting up this account. Each day I update the account online and all stocks, etc. report accurately. But the balance in MSMoney is wrong. It reports more than I actually have. How do I fix this? I was thinking maybe Money matches what is online and somehow corrects, but so far, I don't see this happening..     - Download statement problem I have a problem with Money 2006 while attempting to download a statement for one of my visa credit cards - I click the link on the banks website and Money prompts with the standard "Import complete" dialog, but instead of opening the account so I can Accept and reconcile the transactions, it takes me to the Account List screen, where it indicates 5 items to review from the statement. I click the account link to open the ledger but nothing happens. In the top-left corner it says "Item(s) to review: 5" but doesn't bold the entries and give my the opportunity to go through them and enter or match them with existing items in my ledger. I have had a similar experince with other accounts, but usually with those ones, deleteing the statement, closing Money and then redownloading from the bank have corrected it. For this particular account, it doesn't. I have also tried doing a quick and standard file repair, but nothing I do seems to work. Any advice?     - Money 2006 troubles present in 2007 ? I purchased Money 2006 a year or so ago, but abandoned it over 401k issues. I have not used any kind of money manager since then (bad me), and am ready to take another swing at it, so trying to decide between upgrading Money or giving Quickbooks a try. As I recall it could not reconcile all line item types from my 401k manager (Hewitt). I remember this being a generalized issue, with lots of poeple complaining about the same thing. Has this been addressed in Money 2007 ? Anyone still having trouble with 401k downloads into Money 2007 ? Are there any other pervasive issues that are waiting to bite me if I upgrade ?     - No decimals? Hello! Is it possible to stop Money (2005) from using decimal places in the base currency? I am using a currency that uses only integers and no cents (because cents are almost worthless), and invoices amounts usually get some cents due to sales tax calculations, Is it possible to get rid of them?     - money 99 converting to 2006 I have a friend that has Money 99 and purchased the new Money 2006 but after loading the software, it couldn't read the data file. I checked the internet and then here and found that there was an upgrade method to go from 99 to 2005 and then upgrade to 2006. This is the link that I followed but we were still unsuccessful in converting it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913108/en-us I then tried the work around in which I downloaded version 2004 and then tried the upgrade. Still no luck. It keeps coming back and telling us that it can't convert the file. Of course, they don't have the original 99 disk so I'm sure that is going to be a problem... Any ideas?     - Money 2007 Premium Freezes After Every Transaction Everytime I enter a transaction in the account register with Money 2007 the program freezes. I must right click on the task bar and select close as it's all I can do with the program when it freezes. It is saving the transaction that was entered. But it's extremely frustrating. Is there some way I can revert to Money 2005? I never had this problem with a Money product. Unfotunately in this state it's unusable for me, and without a fix this loyal Money user (for the past 9 years) will have to look at Quicken...     - Spending tracker and PPC support Very, very frustrated with Money 2007. First of all, MS eliminated PPC sync'ing and use. Cannot in my wildest dreams figure out why they wanted to make Mobile 5 platform LESS useful. More importantly MS has completely screwed up the spending tracker function. I thought at first when I worked with Tech Support that I had done something wrong (frankly, that's how Tech Support made me feel). Now going through these threads, I can see that there is a common problem. 2007's Spending Tracker is only picking up one account to track spending. One of the more useful snapshots of my short term financial position is now gone. Will probably have to revisit the competition when next year's models come out.     - Live/Passport and downloading bank/credit card information Greetings fellow Microsoft Money users. I'm new to the tool, but I searched the archives and couldn't find an answer to my question. I don't want to use the Live/Passport feature (let's not get into why here) I've been content to log onto my bank/credit card websites and download the information. Somehow I setup my citibank charge card account so that I can download the information from Money. I can't remember exactly how I did this. I've tried to replicate it with other accounts, bank and credit cards, and Money wants me to get a Live/Passport account. Does anyone know how to replicate this behavior?     - Continuous Money 2007 Premium updates Dear NG: Every day when I open my Money file, I receive a notice that states: "To continue operating successfully, Money requires a software update. Click OK to close Money and begin the update now." I close Money, click OK. Another notice opens that states: "Money is now ready to download the new files. To begin the installation, click OK. Another notice Please wait while Money update installs the new files... (Paraphrased since the notice closed before I could copy down exactly what it said) You can see file names flashing by within the notice window. Finally, "The download was successful. Click OK to complete the software update and then restart Money." Fortunately these updates complete successfully and other than the annoyance of going through this every day, all seems to work ok. Since Money is so tightly integrated with Internet Explorer, could the fact that I keep my "Internet" zone security level set to High, and my "Trusted" zone set to Medium have something to do with Money not recognizing that it has already installed these updates?     - We at Bank of America will do anything to avoid any responsibility for our actions. I purchased bus tickets through international web site that belongs to largest transportation company in Scandinavia. The Bank of America idiots immediately blocked my card from all transactions. I went to local office. They told me that I have no pending transactions and my card is blocked from use for my own protection...Ironic isn't it? Since my liability is 0 the only thing they protecting is themselves. But there is no protection from stupidity, alas. I was advised to call 2 diff. numbers to remove the block form my Checking account. After 1 hour of waiting and talking it was accomplished. It took me 2 days to sort this mess out which I never created to begin with. Then imagine my surprise that after 3 days and without ever showing up in my online statement i got a charge for one ticket and then 8 days later another charge comes through for the second one.... I already secured tickets using my other credit card at that point. So I called Bank of America asking what gives? Why they letting charges to come through if they blocked them in a first place. Imagine all double talk and BS that i had to listen from 4 diff. people and then fill out dispute documents and wait for almost a month. What is the result? I paid twice for my tickets and Bank of America is not responsible for anything. Lovely. To recoup: BoA blocks all transactions. All transactions removed from pending queue and never show up there again. 3 days later one transaction comes through. 8 days later second transaction comes through. Bank of America denies ever doing anything wrong. Bank of America tells me that the whole situation is between me and a online merchant????!!! Stay the hell away from these monkeys.     - clear historical quotes - help? I just upgraded to 2007 trial version (from 2003) and I find what appears to be an undocumented item, so I'm wondering what it does. I'm on the Portfolio Manager screen, and on the left side, I click on Other Tasks->More-> and there's a "Clear historical quotes" menu item. I don't find it documented in the help file, nor in the FAQ, nor on this newsgroup, yet. I'm wondering if anyone's been brave enough to click on it and could tell us what it does? Does it reduce the size of your file? How much? I would hope it does NOT just do a wholesale deletion of all historical quote information, because then it would no longer be possible to (easily) determine the value of your portfolio for any given date. Ideally (IMO), it would just clear out weekday quotes, leaving 1) Friday quotes, 2) last-day-of-month quotes, and 3) last-day-of-year quotes. Or, better yet, it would let you customize the "clearing" process to achieve something like that. Can anyone report back on how this option works?     - Spending Monitor with Debt Reduction Plan All, Is there a proper way to report (what I think is) a bug in Money Deluxe 07? I have a credit card that I track monthly spending on. As long as I don't put it in my debt reduction plan, it and my checking account both show up in the spending monitors (those bargraph things on the home page.) But as soon as I put the credit card into the debt plan (so I know the balance I have to payoff each month), the credit card transactions no longer show up in the bargraphs.     - 2006 Small Business - Billpay function Hello - I have been using Money for approx 8 years now and upgrade almost every year. I am currently on 2006 Small Business. My billpay worked last Monday. Now I try to submit a bill through msn billpay and I get message that reads "Your payment was not processed for the following reason: Unspecified error."     - M2007 and Spinoffs Anyone done a spin-off yet in M2007? I just did one for FDC -- WU I guessed at a 50% split since I don't have the data. I had two purchases of FDC 1/3/06. I refer to them below as Quantity 1 and Quantity 2 The distribution was one share of WU for every share of FDC. For FDC, Money entered Remove shares Quantity 1 Remove shares Quantity 2 Add Shares Quantity 1 with 50% cost of orig Add Shares Quantity 1 with 50% cost of orig For WU Add Shares Quantity 1 with 50% cost of orig Add Shares Quantity 2 with 50% cost of orig The problem is that the cost of the Add Shares transactions was removed from the associated cash account. So my cash account was suddenly short by that amount. (No funds were added to the cash account with the Remove shares transactions).     - Tracking Money Market Performance My account has an automatic sweep to a money market fund. At the end of the month a dividend tranaction is downloaded to money 2007 which treats the $s as a cash transaction catagorized as Investment Income: Dividend. The problem is that the transaction is not linked to an investment so when performance reports are run relative to the account the performance figures do not include the money market's performance. I tried adding a "money market" investment but the downloaded dividend transaction does not link to the investment. The anomoly is that this worked just fine with an earlier version of money (throught 2004). Has anyone a similiar problem and how is it overcome?     - Do I have to have a passport I've recently installed MS Money 2005 and have imported my Quicken files. I think I like Money better, but the program wants me to get a passport to set up downloading transactions. Is there anyway I can avoid doing this?     - .mny file size My MsM2003 .mny file size is 26,913,575 Bytes. This is too large. I've only been using MsM2003 for three days. I have two accounts (savings & checking). I just now noticed the .mny file size after having deleted and recreated the checking account about four times. Is this what is making the .mny file get so large ? Is there a way to compact the .mny file ? Background on why I'm deleting and recreating the checking account : I've been tinkering with downloaded statements from the bank website trying to massage the .csv contents in order to get the payee field correct. After fixing the checking account .csv contents I export from Excel to a .qif using the Xl2Qif tool. Because of a few missteps with the date format I've had to delete and recreate the checking account in MsM2003 ... because there is no way to delete transactions (510 of them) other than one by one.     - Cash flow forecast changes dramatically after paying a couple bill I checked my cashflow just to see ahead, then i payed a couple bills early because I might not get to them in time and one of them I payed alot extra (credit card), but after I payed the bills I rechecked my cashflow it went the other direction; down over the next 7-9 months. Before it was going up, any ideas why the forecast changed so much? The one bill (credit card) was normally set for $40 but I made a large payment of $250.     - Money 2004;downloading from broker; pick existing investment or ne I am downloading transactions from my broker and am getting a long list of investment to verify before they are entered into my portfolio. For each entry I have to select if the investment is one that I already have in my portfolio or if it is a new investment, and if so, add its name. When I get to VMFAR (Call Microsoft Corp$24.50 Adj Exp 01/20/07), the "select from already existing investments" is grayed out, but if I select "Add this as a new investment" and name it "Call Microsoft Corp$24.50 Adj Exp 01/20/07", it tells me I can't do this since that investment already exists.     - MsM2003 payee/memo confusion I'm a new user of MsM2003 . My bank supports download of statements in .qif, .ofx, and .csv format. I've downloaded the .ofx statement and imported to MsM2003 . The problem is the that the bank puts some 'real useful' info like "DDA PUR 0002S052" in the payee field and the actual payee info (or closer to it) in the memo field. A .qif export of the account shows that a typical debit transaction looks like this : Date Amount Cleared Status Payee Memo 8/28/2006 -3.56 * DDA PUR 0002S052 CIRCLE K #06319 DALLAS TX 624000961150 So, I'm thinking that I'll have to manually associate each transaction (based on the memo field) with a category because MsM wants to use the payee field which doesn't have useful payee info. Am I correct in my understanding about this being a problem or is there some clever way that MsM can use the memo field to match real payees for future statement imports ? I've upgraded from MS Money 2002 Standard to 2005 Premium . The charts and
graphs are in black and white and I want them in color. I've optimized all
variables I'm aware of. All my other programs work well in color and I've
had no other display issues with the computer. The OS is XP Professional and
I use Firefox for my browser if that makes any difference. BTW , I 2002 was
also in black and white and I never cared at that time to fix it. Does anyone
have any suggestions?
