First, is this the right forum to discuss issues or questions about using the
MSN Money Portfolio web application?

If so, I've had a problem restoring a backup following the purchase of a new
pc. Several but not all former dividend/interest entries are shown "in the
red". I have tried to change them but they change back after I close the
program. Also, the changes don't appear to effect the balances...but I am not
absolutely sure. I am loathe to take on all of the work to check it out if it
isn't necessary. Help with this program is scant. Does anyone have a helpful
suggestion?

Secondly, the new pc came with a copy of Money 2004. Sadly I spent hours
trying to figure out why I could not import or restore my mny files from the
web or my back-up CD. After searching the KB articles many times I accidently
found the answer.... The web version of Money is 2005 (duh) and the files are
not backwards convertable to a previous version, my Money 2004. I do not have
a qif file to import from either. Does anyone know a work around this?

I welcome any comments or suggestions!
TIA

That would be microsoft.public.moneycentral. The number of people
responding to MSN Money posts there is low.

You could try copying over the "my portfolio.mny" file which is
probably in your "My Documents" folder.

Consider Microsoft Money 2005. There is a Free 90 day trial for
Deluxe. http://www.microsoft.com/money/freetrial_info.mspx
If past patterns hold, Money 2006 would be out in about September.

Odd, I came to this site because I thought that I read a post there
(Central)referring someone to this site.

Yes, I have restored a previous backup from my docs file too. It looks fine
at first and on my next boot some of the transactions show "in the red"
again. Grrrr!

Thanks again!

CBarnes,

I had the same problems. I had 29 years of investment history on one
stock where it took all but one dividend and made them negative values.
It would actually change reconciled transactions in my investment
register and in the case of 2004 my checking account register. I
stopped syncing Money data with moneycentral and now now only work with
Money offline. Funny thing - I no longer have the dividend problem

I was also tired of ALL Yodlee accounts losing the login every few
days - when the login works just fine on the Yodlee website.

Thanks for the reply AJ. I only use the MSN Portfolio. I manually imput 4
yrs. of transactions on 40 stocks etc. I don't sync with anything. I would
like to use the Money 2004 that came on my new pc. but can't because of
backwards compatability of mny files. I will not redo all of the data entry
to use it or buy 2005.
If I can't resolve my "in the red" transactions on the web application I
don't see how it would help if I was using any version of Money. I am still
in the process of looking at former backups.....

That was a person asking about Microsoft Money.
