    - Older version of MSMoney (3.0) I have used MSMoney 3.0 since 1993 and it has worked perfectly through DOS, Win 3.1, Win'95 and Win'98. I bought a new e-machine with WinXP and MSMoney2003 preinstalled. I like the older version but when I try to run it I get "General Protection fault in MSMoney.exe at 0059:0504" and it closes. Tried uninstalling MSMoney2003 still same problem. Tried compatibility fix...running in Win '95 and Win '98 mode...still same! What to do?     - System Crash I was operating MSmy 2000 when computer hard drive crashed over a period of time. My backup files are therefore corrupted. I reinstalled MSmy 2000 on new computer, it's OK. However after loading back-up files to capture past data there are some areas in the financial records where corrections can not be made due such as the "trinity" of corruption results in "this transaction cannot be entered".     - saving customized reports in "my favorites" not working We periodically get an error message when trying to open a customized report saved to "My Favorites" and the customizations are removed, restoring the report to the default settings and removing it from "my favs". Now, when re-customizing the report and saving to "my favs" it does not do so, neither saving the customizations or putting the new file in favs. Any suggestions?     - Pocket Money 2003 on Pocket PC 2003 I am sure others have had similar concerns about how the Pocket Money that ships with Money 2003 can only be installed on Pocket PC 2002 and that you have to buy Money 2004 to get the version that installs on WM 2003. I couldn't find anything in the knowledge base on this, so I did some digging on Google.com and found the following hack if you will for getting Pocket Money 2003 to install on Pocket PC 2003. Here you go: http://www.ppczone.net/forum/showthread/t-927.html Here's the article in case the link doesn't work: Follow these instructions and you should be able to install Money for the PPC (2003 version): 1. With the PPC in the cradle and ActiveSync running, start the installation of Pocket Money for Money 2003 on the desktop. 2. Go through the normal install routine, following the prompts on the desktop machine. 3. When the PPC pops up an error message, don't clear it. Instead, open File Explorer on the PPC. (I don't know if the error message needs to remain open, but without having experimented, I suggest leaving it on screen for now.) 4. Browse to "My Device /Windows /AppMgr /Install" and tap-and-hold on the file that is in that folder. (This is the one caveat... your folder may end up being different, but something tells me that this is the folder you should look in). The file should be obviously related to Pocket Money. 5. When the menu appears, choose copy. 6. Still using File Explorer on the PPC, browse to "My Device /Temp" and paste the file in this new folder. 7. Once the file appears in this new folder, single tap the file. The installation will begin on its own. 8. Close the error message from the original installation. 9. After you have successfully installed Money, with the PPC in the cradle, explore the PPC (use Explore from within ActiveSync). 10. Browse to "My Device /Windows" and look for "MoneyCE". 11. Right click on this file and choose "Create a shortcut". 12. Move this shortcut to "My Device /Windows /Start Menu /Programs" to finish the install. 13. Rename this new shortcut as "Microsoft Money". 14. Remove the PPC from the cradle. Check the settings for the Money Conduit in ActiveSync, place the PPC back into the cradle, and away you go. At this point, it should be working like a charm. Money shows up in the uninstall listing on the PPC, but I actually don't know if it will work or not. Good luck!     - Top 10-What do you LIKE about Money 2004? Ok, maybe it's the season, but I have some things I DO like about MS Money 2004... 1. No more "Operation cannot be performed" message 2. Free TaxCut E-Filing-I use Taxcut, so Why not? 3. Free one year Credit Reporting. After buying a home, this is good info. 4. Able to track my mortgage correctly (So Far) 5. I've figured out all the quirks in BUDGET and have learned to work around most of them 6. I learned to NOT use the Debt Reduction module. Great idea, hope they get it right! 7. I really like the Money interface. Quicken is too confusing-I like the customization features to make it look like I want it. to look. 8. The Transaction Download features have been greatly enhanced and I've notice fewer matching errors. 9. I like the Tax Estimator-It was extremely close last year and I like being able to track tax-related info so it's not a surprise at Tax Time. 10.     - Money Small Business Hello - I am in the process of looking for a Small Business Billing package and was told that the Small Business Version of Money may have everything I need. I am looking for software that can keep up with my client info, reoccuring billing, invoicing, statements, AR & AP, GL, Aging accounts, Taking Payments, customize invoices, statements, Reports, etc..... I downloaded the demo version from Microsoft's site, but it seems to be more personal finance oriented.     - Activation confusion... I am really frustrated and confused over Microsoft's activation policy on Money 2004 Deluxe Upgrade from Trial. I have attempted to reinstall Money 2004 Deluxe from the file I had downloaded and saved when I first purchased the upgrade. When I entered my activation code it stated the maximum number of times I could activate had been exceeded, and I would have to purchase the product again. It's only been four months since I purchased the upgrade online. I thought this was just a small problem that could be corrected by a call to customer service, since this activation code had only been used to install the product on one computer. Boy was I wrong. After speaking to four different customer service people, I got the same answer. There is nothing they can do to let me reactivate using the number I received when I purchased Money 2004, or could not give me another number to activate now so I could have access to me file. However, the last two customer service representatives were willing to make a "one-time exception" and send me a cd with Money on it. (The first one told me I was out of luck and would have to purchase it again, treating me as if I was some sort of criminal trying to get out of paying). Sending me the cd is good, but there is no way to access my money file for the next week- or however long it takes to receive it. They said it was my fault for not understanding the EULA. I thought as long as you installed it on the same computer, you could reactivate it. I've never had this problem with any other product activation from Microsoft (Windows XP/ Office 2003/ Publisher 2003/ Plus Digital Media). Why is Money 2004 different?     - zero coupon bonds I am thinking of transfering from Quicken and imported my database and am trying out Money. I can't figure out how to book the yearly implied interest on the zero coupon bonds that you get on a 1099. On Quicken you book the interest and then add a transaction called "return of capital" for the same amount as a negative number. This adds to the cost basis of the bond.     - Incompatible file problem.... The solution! I am user of Money since 97. I upgraded to 2000 without any problem three years ago. Both were US version. Last week I bought Money 2004 and I got the famous message "incompatible file" (the FAQ of FAQs). I couldn't believe it! I came to this Newsgroup and learnt that it is a problem of Language version, affecting a lot of people, but still, it did not solve my problem. In fact the version I bought this time was English Int'l, instead of English US. The solution posted at http://www.bollar.org/msmoney/#Q1 is just not acceptable. But I think I have the real solution. I did the following and it worked fine for me. If you have the same problem try it (otherwise you have to export one by one all your accounts to Quicken and re-import again,... and pray to avoid inconsistencies): 1) Uninstall MS Money 2004 (the one you just bought) 2) Download the trial version of MS Money 2004 in the same language as your previous MS Money (2000 in my case) 3) Just in case you are using a different computer this time, be sure to use the same date format as before. 4) Install the MS Money 2004 Trial version 5) Open your Money file. The program will automatically create a new one (.mny) in 2004 format and a copy of your original file renamed to .MNx (x=8 for version 2000). Keep that file just in case. 6) Unistall the trial version 7) Install the MS Money 2004 version that you have 8) Open the .mny file, and you should be ready to go... I hope this help somebody else, because it is frustrating to see that MS Money is able to import any kind of Quicken version (even in different language formats) and not MS Money version, which are the current "customers" of Microsoft. If someone from Microsoft is reading this, I suggest that you implement the solution in the next upgrade or post a download in your web with a converter. It shouldn't be that difficult.     - credit cards in my monthly budget I've set up each of my credit cards in money and I've set up recurring bills on those credit cards, however when I go to set up my monthly budget it does not include the credit cards but it will include every thing eles in my recurring bills/deposits.     - Importing Inventory file into MS Money Small Busines Hi there, I currently have my inventory in a Microsoft Access database. Microsoft Money Small Business has an inventory capability but I'd rather not have to re-enter everything there. Since both products are by Microsoft I would think there must be a way to import inventory data from either Microsoft Access or Microsoft Excel at the least.     - salv utility is causing problems in my data file I am having a problem with Money 2004 and the built in file maintenance utilities. When I upgraded my data file from 2003 to 2004, I had a problem that my new converted file contained some accounts that wouldn't reconcile any longer. What I mean by that is that some transactions in the register simply couldn't selected. When you clicked on the transaction in the reconciliation window, Money would not change to an arrow. So the account won't reconcile. Money tries fix the reconcile error and "sees" the transaction that would fix the problem. But when Money tries to fix it, an error "Internal Program Error" pops up. Microsoft tech support says "file corruption" so I start over with a new file. So, I started with a completely new 2004 file 6 months ago. The file is acting fine. Today, I decided to use the file maintenance utility (Level 1 and then Level 2) which I thought were preventative utilities (like a Scandisk). Level 2 told me there were a few problems that it fixed. Now when I try to reconcile, I get the same error as above. I've gone back to my 6 month old file, pre salv, and it works fine.     - Workaround for MSN Money synchronization bugs? I'm trying to sync my accounts from Money 2003 to MSN Money. There are already some accounts on MSN Money from a previous installation I had, and I'd like to delete them so that the synchronization will work. There is no way to to this from what I can see, and from what I've read in numerous other posts over the years explaining the same problem. I thought I might be able to get Money to sync with the existing accounts. Apparently that is not an option, however, because it seems that there is a bug that makes the synchronization wizard believe that most of my Money accounts do not really exist. Money only lets me select from a limited subset of my actual accounts, and thus I cannot select the correct accounts that match up with the accounts that are on MSN.     - QDF file conversion MS Money 2004 suddenly and inexplicably closes when I try to convert my Quicken file. I have a folder with all of the Quicken data in it - validated - with a number of different extensions including *.qdf which starts the process, *.qel *.qsd and *.hcx . The one thing that is really weird, is the interaction between Money 2004, Microsoft Passport and Internet Explorer. Once I sign into Money using my Passport account, do whatever, and then get out of Money, if I then try to get into Internet Explorer it will not go into MyMSN (http://my.msn.com) without requiring me to log back into my Passport account again.     - Budget Items included in Cash Flow Forecast I am currently using Money 2003 on Windows XP..... What I am trying to do is include the budget items in my cash flow forecast. I seem to remember being able to do this before, but it might have been when I was using Money 2002 (I can't really remember). I checked my preferences/settings, based on what the Help file told me to do. Then I searched the online Knowledge Base, but there was nothing that would even remotely help me. How can I get these items included? All of my scheduled bills/deposits/etc show up just fine, but nothing from my budget.     - Bills & Deposits/Cash Flow possible workaround Having read all of the posts about how deleted recurring bills keep mysteriously showing up, I thought I would add my 2 cents' worth about how I got around this little problem. If there is a recurring bill that suddenly does not recur any more (like when we canceled our cable), and I want to delete it, here is what I do: 1) I go into the "Bills & Deposits" menu and choose the "Edit the Series" (before I even think about deleting anything!!!!!). 2) Once I'm in the Edit window, I change the frequency from "monthly" to "only once," and click OK. I also change the amount to the final amount (or to $0 if it's after the last bill has been paid). 3) I return to the "Bills & Deposits" menu, select the item, and click the "Enter into Register" button. 4) Then I go to the account the transaction was entered into, and delete the transaction. After spending way too much time (not to mention frustration) exporting individual accounts after my forecasting kept getting screwed up, I found that this really works wonders for me - I've never had a problem since, even with the "deleted" items. I never use the "delete" button from the B&D menu any more, unless it's a one-time item only (and even then, only with caution). Anybody else try this? As far as I know there have been no chges to the settings of My Money. In fact one check was printed last night and after that the program will only allow two or more checks to be printed at a time.     - Keeping my budget's yearly numbers intact Let me first state that I am a newbie. When I set up my budget making all of the items yearly budget items, it figure out what the items income or expense would be per month. Then when I look at yearly reports it transfers the money per month back to a yearly total. The problem is that many of my items are off by a few cents--for example instead of our postage category being $2500 dollars it ends up being 2499.96. I know why this is happening and it ends up being only a few cents different, but I am putting our church finances in Money and the quality of the report forms is important. Also, is there anyway to add columns (or spaces) between budget groups on the report forms or make the budget groups print bold. I am a newbie so any advice would be appreciated. I have two mutual funds on my home PC when I sync the data
from my PC to PDA it shows one mutual fund balance as
correct and the other at 0 shares at the correct current
price and it has a negative $ amount balance. I cannot
figure that out because anything multiplied by zero should
be zero. Anyway all other account data is correct except
that one mutual fund, which is correct on the Desktop PC.
Any help would be appreciated.
