Are you sure it said Money 2005 needed to be uninstalled to proceed?

I don't remember the exact verbiage but it was to the effect that . . . "the
installation has detected a previous version of Money. Do you want the
proceed with the uninstall?" Money 2005 is the only other version installed
and this was the first attempt of Money Plus.

If you pay attention, it is possible to select to proceed without
deleting the previous installation.

It did and I allowed it to attempt the install. After it went through a
rather lengthy process, it errored with something to the effect . . . "could
not find all the necessary components" and appeared to abort the install.
However, the program is in the Program Files but will not run with the
following error . . . "could not find registration file" (or close to that).
This is brand new out of the box program and is not pirated so I don't
understand the error of the registration reference.

Thanks, again,

Dan

Cal,

I did another installation and allowed it to uninstall Money 2005. As it
reached the end, this time is said (exactly):

"Setup was unable to install some of the components needed to run Money. Try
installing Money again."

I tried two more installs and came up with the same error message. Then, I
reinstalled Money 2005 Deluxe and resurrected the original program. Not sure
now what to try next.

You are running XP?

I would first create a new XP administrative user and install as
that user. That would be easier than setting security settings back
to defaults.

I still think there is not a need to uninstall the previous version.

Cal,

I tried creating a New Administrator and doing the installation but had the
same experience as before. I, then, did a Google search and found a
suggestion:

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db
secsetup.sdb /verbose

I tried that and it allowed me to continue and complete the installation.
After that and every time I try to run Money. the following message appears:

To continue operating successfully, Money requires a software
update. Click OK to close Money and begin the update now.

I clicked OK and the files showed to be downloading, then that Window closed
and it did nothing. I let it continue (with no CPU usage from anything other
than the idle process) for 20 minutes. I then tried to start the program and
the following message appeared.

The Money software is already being installed or updated on this
computer. Please try again once that installation is complete.

I then did a reboot and restarted Money. The same "To continue operating
successfully . . . " message appeared. This time, I cancelled and the
program started then allowed me to register the software and do the My
Money.mny filed update to Money Plus. The program worked fine after I reset
the paths for the backup files except that I get the "To continue operating
successfully . . . " every time I open Money.

Any further suggestions?

Thanks,

Dan Johnson

Confirm you are using XP SP2

Make sure you do not have a compatibility mode set for MS Money.exe.

XP 2 is definitely there but how do I check for the MS Money.exe
compatibility?

Using Windows Explorer, go to the install folder -- typically
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles"
right-click the file and select Properties->Compatibility tab.

Re: Money Plus Installation Question by Dan

Dan
Sun Apr 06 19:43:15 CDT 2008

I found it but the only tabs in the properties for the compatibility check
are General, Sharing, and Customize.

I tried another solution suggested on another website that had worked for
another user on a reply from Microsoft. The following is what was suggested.
Install the CD version.
Install over that the downloadable trial.
Allow the trial to be updated with the end result causing the version #
to change to a specific value (which it did).
Reinstall the CD version over the trial (with the end result being that
the version remaining the same as the trial) -- It didn't!!!

I am now back to the CD version with the same error message:

The Money software is already being installed or updated on this computer.
Please try again once that installation is complete.

I tried (just in case while I was in the properties tab) making an exception
in the firewall settings to allow communication with MS Money. It still
didn't help.

Sorry to be so persistent but I really would like to get rid of this error
message.
