When trying to install downloaded trial version MS Money Plus I receive this
error:
"The AUTORUN.INF file is missing or corrupt."
What is necessary to correct this problem?
[Windows XP SP2 on an IBM Thinkpad A31]

You downloaded a big *.exe file. If you right-click the file in
Windows Explorer and choose Open, do you get that error?

Yes. I have a pretty stock Windows XP system. I tried both the Essentials
and the Dexluxe versions, Same reuslts. I've never run into this problem
before. I'm reluctant to even consider purchasing -- I think there si a
definite possibility I will run into the same problem.

Good thinking. I would guess the problem could be something running
on your computer such as a firewall or virus checker.

Go with Deluxe.

I would try installing in Safe Mode with Networking. If that does
not work, I would try a "clean boot".

Same error with Safe Mode install attempt. I'm not exactly sure what you
mean by "clean boot"....

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353/ tells how to do a clean
boot. But since you get the same error in Safe Mode, I doubt that it
is going to help. Your "The AUTORUN.INF file is missing or corrupt."
error is unusual.

I had a momentary lapse on the "clean boot." And you're right, it didn't
work either. I have a distinct, gut feeling that I would encounter the same
error trying to install from a CD. I like MS products, have quite a number
of them running on this system, but I guess I'm going to have to look
elsewhere for personal financial management software.

Thanks for all your help.

Here is one more thing you might try: I would try creating a new
user with Administrator privilege. Switch to that user and install
Money as that user.

Mr

Everything has failed. This one is hard to understand. I install software
regularly (including VB.net and DevStudio, etc.) and have never had any
problems.

I'm going to have to look elsewhere, which will be tough. I know I don't
want Quicken, and there just isn't much else out there to choose from.

Thanks for your help, Cal.
