Help please, I am in the UK and use Money 2004 with XP Home (service pack 2).
After a number of years I am unable to login in using my Windows live ID
passport. When I check in Money / File / Passport Manager I am advised that
my passport sign in is enabled for my e-mail address. Also I can sign into
other websites which require my Windows Live ID.
Advice please on how to correct this error.

Having exact same problem here. I took off passport sign in so that I could
get to my information. Is this a covert tactic to push us to upgrade?

Viad,

I doubt whether this is a tactic to get us to upgrade as we in the UK lag
well behind the US as we can only go up to 2005 which I understand is very
little different from 2004. In the US they are up to 2007.

I have searched the Knowledge base to find an answer but without sucess,
hence my appeal to the Community.

Hope the MPV ansers with a solution to outr problem

I suspect that the MS site is still down as a result of their site
update see:

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/common/networkstatus.aspx
(though this is not of course up to date being MS)

I would wait another day and normality should be restored.

I will keep my fingers and toes crossed that you are coorect and that once

I ran across this as the same web site:

Money 2003, 2004 and 2005 Online Services expiration notification

Effect:
Microsoft® Money versions 2003 and later includes support for online
services for either two or three years. Please refer to your Online Service
Policy (OSP) document, which outlines the length of certain online services
available for your version of Money.

If you receive notification regarding your online service plan and would
like to continue using these online services within Microsoft Money make sure
you take a few minutes to upgrade to Microsoft Money Plus today by going to
http://microsoft.com/money.

Note: If you used prior versions of Money, you should not purchase
â??Microsoft Money Essentialsâ??, because this version is meant for new users,
and will not convert previous Money files.

To access the License Agreement in Money 2003, or the Online Services Policy
in Money 2004 or the Internet-based Services Policy in Money 2005, go to Help
- About Microsoft Money.

I too am in the US using Money 2004 Standard OEM Edition, v12 Update 1 and I
have been unable to use my Passport login since Monday 17 Dec. I have changed
my Passport password and can log-in to any other Passport site, but my Money
file just will not accept the Passport parameters when I try. Anyone have any
clue as to what is happening?

Thanks.

I think MS have broken their link into the passport server again.
They did this before and didn't acknowledge their cock-up for days.

Anyway http://memberservices.passport.com/en-gb seems to be unavailable
and I think Money needs that to authenticate the passport into online
services.

If you check "I don't need to use online features...." on your login
screen you will be able to log in to your Money accounts, you just won't
be able to gain access to MS Money online features.

MS will fix it whenever. Don't expect anytime soon as you may be sadly
disappointed.

Davo,

Unfortunately this upgrade is not suitable for the UK. We lag well behind
the US as Money 2005 is the most recent version which is compatible with the
UK financial institutions and practices. Even 2005 differs very little from
2004.

Thanks fopr the thought.

I would remove the Passport, and protect your file with conventional
password or other means.

And to clarify, do *NOT* delete your Passport/LiveID. I am talking
about inside UK Money 2004 after you have opened to work offline.

File-PasswordManager you can choose to remove your Passport. If you
need to do something else first, expect it to tell you.

How can I open the "passport protected file" offline in the first place! It
doesn't allow me to do that?

I am not in the UK I'm in the USA and I have not been able to log on since
Dec 17th also.

That online services notice was some time ago does it really apply to just
updating investments which is all I do.

Has anyone tried Quicken? It's so hard to get support on Microsoft I may
try them if I have to upgrade.

Isn't there a "work offline" or some such?

If you don't see it, see if IE File->WorkOffline before opening
Money helps with that.

I.m a UK user with the same problem. However I have found that I can open
Money by clicking the box on the initial screen that says"I do not require
the online features of Money which require Microsoft Passport etc." If I then
seect "update securities online" everything does update but there are no
subsequent automatic updates, i.e. I have to initiate further updates myself.

Ok I can top all of you. 4 weeks ago I upgraded the disk in my laptop. I
had a few issues that I worked out. Monday I loaded NOD32 and some other
software. Tuesday Money 2004 would not accept name and password. I could
still log on to Hotmail and Microsoft. I put my OLD disk back in and had the
same problem, thus it was NOT a local (cache/cookie/etc) issue. Found the
website update notice on the web, found a knowledge base article and tried
it's solutions. Emailed support, got back an answer about downloading a new
Certificate and did such. Support them said refered me the the knowledge
base article. Support refuses to even say soory or we are working on it. I
think some support heads need to roll while/if the techs work to fix issue.

Canadian version. Hope this gets resolved soon.

Msft's final solution
Hello David,

Thank you for your reply, unfotunatelly what we can do at this time is
create a new file with a new passport and then restore a back up or import
the information from the old file.

Regards,

Haydee L.

Thus I either have to A) have two passport accounts (and hope that it fixes
it!), or B) move every account (MSN, MSDN, TechNet, Outside instutions like
Compass Bank) that rely on passport to the new account. MSFT is dropping the
ball.

Hi,
as I understand you are using a UK 2004 version of Money, as I do
despite I am in Italy, pls will you be so kind to comment my following
issue:
I have seen that the last "new" Money purchasable in England seems
to me almost obsolete with respect of the US editions, so as the UK
Money is waiting to issue a real new version. For the above I dont see
any good reason to upgrade.
I will appreciate receiving you comment.

Thanks
Manlio

The M2005 UK version may be older than the US ones, but it is hardly
obsolete (nor is M2004). I'm sure that lots of software on your computer is
more that 3 years old and works fine. The only thing that times out after 2
years in the US version is the ability to download data from your financial
institutions. However the UK version will probably not time out until (and
if) M$ produces a newer UK version of Money.

My 2004 version is OK .. oops .. was OK until this last failure of
the system. I can easily get my data from the bank and update
quotations on the web. I had also all data syncronized on the web so I
may check them when out of home. Now I cannot do this through my PC
Money, but I can enter web data directly on Web UK Money, as there the
passport works fine.

I will wait MS People repair this failure as I have read now they are
aware of the problem.
Thanks for answering.

You may want to consider removing the Passport from your file. If
you don't want to do that, you might consider making a copy of your
file with a different name every month or two. Remove the Passport
from that copy, and save the file in a safe place as insurance.

Cal,

Thanks for your sugestion. A good security process. However, as the Net
Passport facility appears to be in operation again I will stick to ths. BTW I
backup my Money file every two weeks to a floppy and every few days to my
laptop.

Something must have happened in the land of Money, MSN or Microsoft to have
this flaw suddenly in the Money system. The good news is that all appears
well now.
