 - Not getting download of account transactions I download my accounts from my bank's website and that ususally stores the transactions on Money (it has been spawned). As of yesterday when I try to download the transactions from bank's website I get nothing coming to my computer.  - Corrupt backups? Due to the current login fiasco, I tried to resore my last backup from 7/18. By backups span 2 flopies each, and I have the last 3 backups (7/18, 7/8 and 6/25). However, when I try to resore from any of the backups, I get the message that the backup is corrupt! I tried copying the files from the floppies to the hard drive, and restoring from there. I tried concatinating the 2 files into one. Nothing seems to work! The floppies are only a few months old, and have been written to about 6 times each. Any ideas?  - Cannot logon to my Money files, does not accept password I cannot make Money accept my Passport password. The people at Microsoft say it's a problem with their server and will be soon corrected.  - cancelled accounts not deleted Time ago, I have created a "cash" account to manage cash transaction related to a bond investment. This was done cicling throu renamiing the investment. After a while I deleted this account, as I prefer not to have cash transaction linked to the investment. But the account continue to appear, as a possible choice when I import data from my bank.  - Online Account Setup During the initial online account setup, the pre-loaded web address for my banking institution is wrong so the connection never happens.  - Online Updates Just installed Money 2004. Setup online services. Told it NOT to download any old transactions. All of the sudden a few days later, when I do a online update it tells me I have several transactions to look at. When I go to the account, it don't show any new transactions. Whats up with that?  - shameful Software errors happen. But I think it's shameful that MS does not notify their customers anywhere on the Money support web pages that there is a problem. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure this out, only to discover that the problem is on their side, and they're well aware of it. I had to dig into the newgroups to figure this out. I'm a tech-savvy guy, and I feel bad for all the customers who wouldn't know to check the newsgroups. This has happened before (with a bad XP patch they issued back in November (caused double-scrolling in Outlook Express and IE)).  - Using client software I specifically and consciously chose to use client software (rather than a web site) to consolidate my financial data. My goal was to have the data (and manipulations thereof) accessible whether I was on-line or off-line; to have private consolidation of all the data rather than on a server in the sky somewhere; and, to have local control. All this has been thwarted. I have backups from every month going back a full calendar year on duplicate PCs and none of the data is accessible. If I had any idea that using Passport for on-line authentication could impact my ability to get to my own client software and associated data, I would never have used it.  - Password Issue - Read MVP's and the sort Don't get me wrong here, I have received plenty of great information from MVP's and other regarding MS software, but to make us all sound like idiots because we used the suggested password system for a product is unacceptable. MS specifically tells you it is highly recommended to use Passport. Now while we all wait for the fix, we get to listen to all of you tell us how stupid we are for even using it in the first place. Personally, I can get around using it for now, but it is rather annoying that it is taking this long. Funny thing, I had always used Quicken in the past but this time around I thought I would use Money to see the difference. Fortunately, I bought it about 10 days ago and I have decided if it takes longer than Friday, I will be returning the software for an exchange for Quicken. Final thought, why does MS need to use the Passport system anyways, why don't they secure your information locally like they do on Access or just about any other software package? PS I think it is wonderful that you (the MVP's) spend your time helping others on the newsgroup and you are all probably tired of hearing people moan and groan about this. Although, I think you need to remember that not all of us are as technically superior as you are on this software and we take the word of the manufacturer. So when we get screwed by the manufacturer (on something that should have been tested) we tend to get a little upset, especially when we spend all day trying to figure out what is wrong, including spending 35 minutes on hold and never actually talking to anyone (But trust me I know how to take care of the Sasser virus) So give us a break and stop telling us were not so smart in the first place. Instead focus, your thought on the group at Microsoft and tell them they are not so smart for placing the passport password in the software and not testing their changes.  - Who's responsible? Hello. Not intending the fan the flames here, but to add a sense of reality and to give an opinion that's worth what you paid for it ... I'm a user of MS products, including Money, not an employee of MS, and I imagine I suffer from problems as much as the next person. I think that this user community, although looking to blame Microsoft, may benefit from looking at itself a little bit. Software F-ups happen. Most people knows this. So while you're busy blaming Microsoft for making a mistake, you may want to look at your backup plan. If your data is so [business] critical, why are you allowing your self to be dependant upon a single file? Where are your back-ups from before Monday? Where is your weekly backup that Money will create automatically for you if you ask it? This is your data, maybe your business, so in the end it is your responsibility. It is our expectation that, when fixed, this will not require any downloads (or uploads), but the solution may require a connection to our web site. This was not caused by any download of Money software, and we don't think that a download will be necessary to fix it. We are not sure whether every user will be fixed automatically, or if some manual steps will need to be done. If there are manual steps, we will publish them through many outlets, including this forum. We will not compromise your privacy in our solution. Your files will only be able to be opened with your own login information. Many of you have offered to help us when we have a solution ready. Thanks.  - Budget Is Losing an Account I have been using Money almost since it first came out, but I have run across an issue I haven't heard about. Maybe some of you have. When I lay out my budget, Money keeps putting one of my credit card accounts in a category of "Transfers out of budget accounts." What it puts into this category is the payments I project in the bills and deposits view for charges on that card. I can get rid of it by changing the projected entry I have for that card to $0. I don't guess that would be the end of the world, but I'm not getting that behavior in the other credit card accounts. Also, it seems like it is double counting the projected category expenses for purchases I make in that account. By way of an example, if I use $250.00 as the amount I estimate I will charge on that card, I get a line item at the end of my budget increasing my budget expenses by $3000 (12 X 250). If the budget wizard is adding the $3000 to the other expenses I have put into the wizard, isn't that double counting the expense items charged to that card? Clearly, the various amounts and categories for charges to that card are included in the calculated expenses. I can't see that I have done anything to note that account as being outside the budget as I have with a couple of accounts. I don't see anything in the "account details" suggesting that the account should not be included in the budget. Has anyone seen this behavior? Is there anything you can suggest to count this account correctly besides artificially using $0 as the projected expenses for this account. Thanks in advance for your help.  - Users locked out of their local Money file Redmond, July 28, 2004, 15:45 PDT Here at the Money team we are sorry that we have caused this problem, and we are working as quickly as possible to fix this unfortunate situation. Let me take a moment to explain what the Money team is doing about this problem. First, let me assure you that none of your financial data has been lost, and none of your personal information has been compromised. In fact, the result of the situation has been that your information has been locked up more tightly. Here is what happened, and an analogy to help explain it. On Monday, one type of our servers was updated and inadvertently pointed to the wrong location to verify authentication. The authentication process worked perfectly - we caused the problem by looking in the wrong server location. This mistake only affected Money services. (If you think of your login information as a key, and our servers as a lock, then we changed the lock on the safe, and the old key wouldn't work anymore. There is no way for the user [or anybody else] to create working login information. The good news is that nobody could open the local file because of this mistake at any time; your information is still protected.) We corrected the "wrong server location" problem Tuesday morning, and users who did not login between late Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning should be able to use their files normally. Those who were affected may continue to be affected, however, since Money downloaded some of the garbled information from our servers. (Basically, we made a copy of the lock on your local file. Why did we do this? Because when you change the lock yourself, you don't want the old key to continue working on your local file. You also wouldn't want there to be an easy way for somebody on your machine to ignore the change in the locks. Of course, we will look at this scenario to see if we could solve it without decreasing security in the future.) The next step is to fix the locks for those of you who are affected. We are putting every effort into a solution to this problem, which we will deliver as soon as possible. We expect to be able to address every user that we affected.  - Money 2004 Budget showing extra entries I have created a budget with a figure for food at 120 pounds. When looking at the cash flow forecast for the next few months or year it shows the first month as being correct but then starts to add in weekly amounts of 24 pounds.  - MSMoney 2004 Auto-Reconcile causes failures A few days ago I posted the article below. No answer. Probably because MSMoney 2004 is broken and will not be fixed. But I'm trying again, just in case: Hello, I've been living with this problem for about a year. It started when I installed MSMoney 2004. At the same time I turned on the option to auto-reconcile. I quickly figured out that auto-reconcile really means never-balance-again. So I immediately turned it off. Unfortunately, my online transactions always auto-reconcile anyway. The option is off and has stayed off, but all online transactions continue to auto-reconcile. MSMoney also has the following problems: When I first start to balance, the proposed balancing date is way into the future. I always have to set the date back. Then it complains about the starting balance. Sometimes I let MSMoney generate compensating transactions, two of them, for the same amount, one debit and one credit. Most often, I have to manually correct *all* wrongly marked transactions from "reconciled" back to "un-reconciled". Then it all magically balances. I have searched this newsgroup and have found many many users with the same exact problem, but no one seems to have a sure fix. One fix that I will not go for is to buy MSMoney 2005. Don't be tempted to add your name to position 1 in order to earn money fast! It doesn't work like that! If you do that, you will ONLY reach the people you directly send emails to, and then your name will be immediately removed from the No.1 place and you won't reach thousands of people! But, if you add your name to the Number 5 position, there will be literally thousands of people receiving and sending e-mail's later - when your name is at the Number 1 spot!!! Now you need to edit the Pay Pal referring URL (shown above in Step 1) with your own Pay Pal referring URL. You can find YOUR referring URL at Pay pal after you join. Just look at the bottom of the first page once you sign into Pay pal, and click on the "referrals" link. You will be given a referring URL similar to the one above, except the code number at the end will be different. Simply delete the current Pay Pal referral URL in Step 1 above, and replace it with your Pay Pal referral URL. (F) Once you've edited your email message as outlined above, send out a minimum of 40 copies of this email - but only to people you know, or to people who respond to MLM offers, or to people who've sent YOU offers.  - No longer able to access Money I had a problem accessing money and thought maybe I had a virus or something. My password just suddenly didn't work so I changed my microsoft passport to no avail. I changed it back to what it was. I'll be furious if this problem isn't fixed. I have about a years worth of stuff in Money and was just getting ready to use it to put together a budget, in addition to the fact that I haven't used my checkbook in months. I back up my money file to a seperate hard disk everyday, but it won't let me restore it. It give's me the same crap no matter what I do, "Your sign-in name is not associated with your file". If I try to skip the passport sign-in it still asks me for a money password which still doesn't work. Microsoft, you need to get this problem fixed. You practically have a monopoly on the computer market, but you won't have one on the money software market if millions of people can't access their money program. This sucks.  - Passport Login Problem Update Microsoft is still working the problem. The Microsoft Money product group has identified the problem and are testing a resolution. The proposed resolution is a two part fix. There will be a server side implementation as well as all of the customers who are experiencing this problem will need to walk through a specific set of steps in order to regain access to their information. Microsoft apologizes for the problem and is working to get a proper fix for you. __________________________________________________ The best thing to do at this point is to wait for that. It is best to not attempt to change your Passport. If you cannot wait, you could restore a backup to a *different* filename. Note that if you restored a backup over the file with the problem, the newer transactions you may have entered would be overwritten during the restore process. For some reason MS Money no longer recognizes my Pasport
password when I try to sign in when I open Money. In
addition when I try to update my portfolio on line I get a
prefunctory message that an error occured and the
connection can`t be made.It suggests I reconfigure my
connection. I have worked with the rep from MS to no
avail. I would appreciate any suggestions.
