Had Money 2000 Deluxe and upgraded to 2004 Standard. I got the 'incompatible version' error message. Purchased 2000 in Asia and 2004 in Australia. Found the 304254 Microsoft Support page. Advised to uninstall 2004 and reinstall 2000. When I did this I got the message incorrect password. I have only ever had one password. Checked the password crack sites and one site said it could supply the password for $20US and the other site said that the file was not password protected. I cannot Import/Export the file from 2000 until I can open it. Do you advise to spend the $20-00US to try the password crack or have you any other suggestions. I have years of files that I need and now cannot even get acces to them in 2000. Will I get my money back for the cost of purchasing 2004 and can I sue Bill Gates(for a few billion) for losing my money files. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The password message means that you are trying to read a Money file produced
by a later version of Money. When you tried the upgrade M2004 made a copy of
your Money file in the same directory that your *,mny file lives in - look
for *.m11 (I think). Rename that as *.mny.

The M04 file upgrade process warned you about the non-revertability of the
upgraded file. Your suit probabaly wouldn't get far.

Bo
Thanks for the reply. I did as you suggested. I still get the password box and when I input my password it states incorrect password. I then reinstalled Money 2004 and when asked for my password(the same used for 2000) it accepts the password but I get the incompatible version message. Do you think there is any hope for me

Roger

Perhaps you were trying the US trial; that message occurs when you
try to change geographies.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1762739a-66f7-43f9-8a95-1ed4b9108d7b&DisplayLang=en
is Money 2004 International English Trial Version.

Look for files of extension .mn* and .m*. (Money uses MN1 - MN9, and M10 and
M11.) For an M2K upgraded file, there **should** be a .MN8 file, which you
will need to rename to .MNY, that is your M2K file as it existed before the
upgrade.

If your Money 2000 program was from Asia, then it sounds like you should buy
the Asia version of Money 2004.

After the file is converted with the "compatible version", then you should be
able to export to the US version...one account at a time.
