Is this problem of not being allowed into Money 2004 - signin unsuccessful
Please try again - only relatef to Money 2004 or are other versions having
the same problem? I have not been able to get into Money 2004 for 4 days.
Is this related to the online services having expired? I read some where
that you only get 2 - 3 years of online service depending on what version you
have. But the date was for
September 1, 2007 so why is this just happening now?

Help!

I have been a successful user of Microsoft Money 2004 since Jan 2004; my
product ID is 001SE 163 246X102 786.

In the last few days I have been unable to sign-in to my Money site. I keep
getting the message "The sign-in attempt for **************@hotmail.com was
unsuccessful. Please try your sign-in name and passport again."

My password works successfully when I sign-on to Hotmail and when I access
my Live account. So, why doesn't it work for Money?

I have tried changing my password; no success with Money. I have done the
checks for regsvr32 Msxml3.dll and received "file succeeded".

I had this problem about 10 days ago and, after a couple of days, it seemed
to resolve itself. Now it has happened again and I am seriously
inconvenienced at not getting access to my Money site.

I have Windows XP SP2; my broadband connection is ca 1.0Mbps.

Is this problem due to a recent rogue update download?

I have Money 2003 and have been having the same problem. First noticed it
last night, but I probably haven't opened Money since 12/17/2007 which was
the last time my portfolio was updated online. Would like to know what is
going on and why, I don't recall ever having trouble logging on using my
Passport ID before.

I called Microsoft and all the only response I get is that they no longer
support MS Money 2004. How frustrating!!! I know this isn't a Money 2004
issue, it's a Microsoft issue. Feels like they're trying to force everyone
to upgrade by locking you out of your Money file. I'm not an attorney but I
don't think that would be legal.

I agree...is there any other route you think we can take to get

Money so heavily that I don't think I can continue to deal with this much

Yes, I also rely heavily on Money. My only concern about upgrading is that
I'm not certain if it's possible without being able to open my current .mny
file. I would not consider upgrading unless I could be assured that
everythig would convert. How can I convert all of my transactions without
access to the data?

@#$%@# Microsoft has us handcuffed!!!

All - I was just able to get into Money by using my original user name and
password and selecting the option of not using online updates, etc. The good
news, is I am finally in and have my data...the bad news is it doesn't appear
that I there is a way to have online updates without upgrading to a newer
version of Money

I am having the same sign in issue with Money 2003.

Looking at the "server status" page at
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/common/networkstatus.aspx

they have the following information a little ways down the page:
"Money 2003, 2004 and 2005 Online Services expiration notification

Effect:
Microsoft® Money versions 2003 and later includes support for online
services for either two or three years. Please refer to your Online Service
Policy (OSP) document, which outlines the length of certain online services
available for your version of Money.

If you receive notification regarding your online service plan and would
like to continue using these online services within Microsoft Money make sure
you take a few minutes to upgrade to Microsoft Money Plus today by going to
http://microsoft.com/money."

I'm not sure if that means that they are now actively blocking older
versions of Money, or whether the December 17th server update is buggy.

Hi,
as I wrote in another msg, the same problem occurred few years ago.
I understood it was a failure in a MS Server utility to correctly
collect the user passport data. That time it took several days to
setup the matter.
This let me hope that a solution will be provided by MS People.
Anyhow I think it's worth to wait sometime and continue to push MS
with a request of failure analisys. But NEVER UPDATE ... if we like to
have the 2004 version still valid on the Web Services.

I noticed that in Money, if you click File, then Login Lockbox, then Change,
it will try to take you to a Passport web page that no longer exists. It
looks like Microsoft changed their server/address for accessing Passport
(now LiveID), and their old Money software can't be reprogrammed.

My guess is we're stuck with upgrading, but I'll also wait a little. I
won't be surprised though if after waiting there is no resolution.

Likewise. During my various attempts to sign-in to Money 2004 using
passport I changed my password 2 or 3 times. No success. I then opted for
the "sign-on without passport" box and used an earlier password. This got me
into Money and I could update my data, make bank connections/transfers and
download up-to-date financial news items. Trying the range of passwords in
the passport option box still fails completely though.
I am just relieved to have found a way in again, but I still want to get
back to normal passport access.
It seems to be taking Microsoft a long time to respond to our problem?

I had Money 2003 and began to experience what you all are talking about. I
had planned to update anyway so I did to Money Plus Deluxe. My problem is
that my inability to sign on seems to have been transferred to my new version
of Money. And like the rest of you my password and live id work elsewhere
just not here. I would say they have a problem.

I've tried skipping the Passprt login but it still doesn't work. I'm not
able to login either online or offline. This is REALLY strange. I have two
different logins (wife/myself) and neither of them work. I tried resetting
my password and that didn't help. I'm able to login to other site (like this
one) with my Passport account and don't have any trouble.

Thanks Brian, that's good info. This has been my fear, if I do as MS says
and upgrade, I still will not be able to get into my money file.

Yes, I can click the box to skip the Passport/Live Id login. But that still
doesn't work. I cannot login using the online or offline mode. I see that
Microsoft has acknowledged that they have an issue. Have they said when they
expect to have it resolved?

Speaking as a former software developer, I can assure you that Microsoft
will never give you an estimated completion on an issue like this. I'm
sure they're working on it, but they have lots of testing to do to make
sure they don't repeat the first error.

There are legal implications to making public promises that are not then
met. The best course of action is simply to state that they're working on
the problem and will have it fixed as soon as possible, then shut up.
Their stock prices changed when they announced a completion date for an
OS, then missed it.

Still having a problem.
However I am now able to setup and login on my passport from Money and
I have so established again my double login system (using and not
using web functions), I am still unable to syncronize data on the web.

During the failure time I deleted all my data on MSN and I worked
with Money only on local data.
Now I went on tools to re-establish the MSN Web data, but I got an
unaspected error and data link was not created.
Anyone had the same problem ?

Once MS restored the link to the passport server everything worked as
normal. My portfolio on MSN has synchronised with my MS Money data and
all is well.

N.B. I didn't try to "fix" anything at my end while the MS
infrastructure was broken. If you made any changes to your passport
while MS was down I suggest you try to back them out.

It may help if you say exactly what you are doing and post any messages
you get back when you try to synchronise data.
