I have just switched to Money 2008 which zapped my Pocket Money. I have
been considering Spb Finance as a replacement. I use some of their other
software on my ipaq 2215 and have found it to be top notch. I just wondered
if anyone had used it with Money 2007/2008?

Thanks

Mike

Ultrasoft recently released Ultrasoft Money for Windows Mobile, and
it's available for purchase via the web site
http://www.Ultrasoft.com.

Direct link to the Windows Mobile version is:

You might also consider that.

I have considered that and it is the reason I am asking about Spb Finance.

Does Microsoft get a kickback from Ultrasoft?

Not that we'd know; we don't work there. But the MoneyLink tool has proven
pretty vital to some of us and we like to help out a friend.

Guess it is not my day. I did an uninstall of Ultrasoft using the normal
Activesync uninstall on the PDA and the PC. It did not completely remove
some of the Ultrasoft items, but I managed to delete those.

After that my Activesync 4.5 abends everytime I try to start it with a
defined partnership. If I delete the partnership it will allow me to
connect in guest mode. I have uninstalled/installed Activesync, soft reset
the PDA, and so on and am not able to get the partnership past the abend.

I am not sure where to go from here. Everything was working great until I
installed Ultrasoft.

The ActiveSync uninstall removes only the items installed by the original
CAB file. It's handled entirely by ActiveSync and/or Windows Mobile.

Use the Add/Remove Programs control panel to uninstall software.

Not knowing what items you deleted manually, it's difficult to advise. A
factory reset should work.

Come to think of it... if you manually deleted the ActiveSync service
provider DLL on the desktop without first de-registering it, it's likely
that AS is still trying to load it and failing. (That may be true for the
handheld side SSP DLL too.)

Your best bet is probably to reinstall and then uninstall. Bear in mind that
if you manually deleted too much (or too little), the InstallShield
installer may still detect it as installed and you may have further
difficulty. If that happens, there's a good thread in the Ultrasoft Money
forum on manually uninstalling when InstallShield won't.

Again, using Add/Remove Programs is the way to uninstall.... not manually
deleting things.

Uhm, interesting. I have used ActiveSync to uninstall programs on both the
PDA and PC before. I thought that is why it had an option to uninstall on
just the PDA or on both. Previous uninstalls with other packages did not
seem to have problems.

I took the following steps after uninstalling Ultrasoft and the loss of the
ability to use ActiveSync to perform a sync.

Uninstalled ActiveSync.

Cleaned out any references to Ultrasoft and ActiveSync on either the hard
disk or in the registry.

Reinstalled ActiveSync.

Tested the PDA to the PC via the USB connection using Guest to ensure that
connectivity still worked.

Using a restore exe completely restored the PDA (except the backup data
folder on the SD) to its condition before the attempts with Ultrasoft. This
ensured nothing on the PDA had references to Ultrasoft.

Connected the PDA to the PC using a USB connection. Created a new
partnership in ActiveSync. ActiveSync then did a sync from PC to PDA and
everything was working as before.

Went in to the PC registry and changed the name of the partnership and
briefcase location to what is was before the problems.

Everything now works as advertised.

I am not sure what to do about installing a stable and debugged PDA money
program. Most likely need to wait a while and see what happens between
Ultasoft and spb Finance.

I'm not sure how I can state this more plainly. The ActiveSync uninstall
removes only the items installed by the original CAB file. Use it to
uninstall mobile device applications.

Our ActiveSync Service Provider was installed by our InstallShield
installer. It's not part of the mobile device application. Use the
Add/Remove Programs Control Panel to uninstal lit. Deleting it manually
without de-registering, then hacking away at your registry and file system,
is probably what caused your problem.

Thank you for your opinions. I guess the ActiveSync folks need to remove
that option to remove apps from both the PDA and PC since you say it does
not work. The uninstall process did start on the PC and ask if I was sure
that I wanted to remove the program. Evidently some form of communication
was happening. I did not have to "hack away" until removing Ultrasoft,
using techniques that had worked successfully in the past, zapped
ActiveSync.

Thank you for speaking so plainly.

Have a nice day.
