I have recently bought a new computer (still with XP) and a) loaded my copy
of MM 2005 Standard to it and b) loaded the data files for MM which I copied
from the old computer. But I cannot get the program to pick up the data -
and of course, support from Microsoft ended last month! Can anyone suggest
what I should do to get the data to connect with the software program?

I hope this ability has not expired:

Either open the sample.mny file in your install folder, or let
Money 2005 create a new Money file, clicking Decline in the
process. It will do an update. Close Money. Then open Money and
check that Help->About... says you then have version 14.0.*.1105.

Then you should be able to open or restore your existing files.

Thanks so much Cal - I have no idea why the program required this, or how I
was supposed to know this was required...... It's not really intuitive is
it! But it worked a treat when I followed your suggestion!

There's no way you would have known this was required. For the reason it was
required, see http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=177.
