Hello all --
I have Microsoft Money 2004 and recently, I've not been able to sign-in with
my Passport Signin name and password. I keep getting the error "The sign-in
attempt for PASSPORTEMAIL@hotmail.com was unsuccessful. Please try your
sign-in name and password again.

however, I can get into my hotmail.com email account with that password, and
I can also use passport on other web sites. Any ideas why this is happening?
It used to work -- but not it just doens't.

I too am having this problem but when I click on the link in the response
from Cal it says that the article I'm looking for is unavailable, and has
been for over a week now. Is there somewhere else I can go to get the answer?

SYMPTOMS
When you try to sign in to Microsoft Money by using your Microsoft Passport
Network credentials (the e-mail address and password that you use to sign in
to the Passport Network), you may receive an error message that is similar
to one of the following:
Your sign-in information could not be verified. Go online or select the Work
offline check box, and then reenter your sign-in information.
Money is unable to verify your online sign in. Money will now try to log you
in using Work Offline sign in. Some online features such as background
banking will be unavailable, possibly because of network problems. To use
these features, please close Money and try to sign in again later
Money is unable to verify your online sign in. Money will try to log you in
using work offline.
The sign in attempt for username @ ISP .com was unsuccessful. Please try
your sign in name and password again.
Note In this error message, ISP stands for the domain name of your Internet
service provider. Also, the extension that follows the ISP name might be
different from ".com," such as ".net".

You receive these error messages although you have configured Money to sign
in to the Passport Network.
Note If the issue you are experiencing is not with your Passport
credentials, and you are experiencing a problem with your financial
institution password, please contact your financial institution to verify
the Password credentials you should be using within Microsoft Money.
Warning If you always choose the work offline option when signing into
Microsoft Money, and you aren't using this Passport for applications or
sites other than Microsoft Money, there is a possibility that this Passport
may be expired by Passport sometime in the future. To prevent this from
occurring, you can either sign into Passport online occasionally, every
other week, or choose to remove your Passport credentials from your Money
data file and use the Money password instead.

CAUSE
This issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true: .
The system date on the computer is not correct.
. You are not connected to the Internet or Money does not detect an
Internet connection.
. You are already signed in to the Passport Network by using different
Passport Network credentials.
. Money does not correctly detect an Internet connection.
. The security level for your browser is set too high.
. The computer is not configured to accept cookies.
. The Msxml3.dll file is not correctly associated with the
Regsvr32.exe file.
. You recently upgraded to your version of Money, and your data file
is damaged.
. The installation of Money is damaged.

Are you a Money 2004 user in the UK?

Consider removing your Passport. Click that you don't need to use
password box where it says "I don't need to use online features that
require Microsoft Passport". Then go to File->PasswordManager and
remove the Passport.

You may want to protect your Money file against curious people with
access to your file with a conventional password. Don't forget the
password tho.

I've had this problem as well - started last week.
I carried out all the remedial steps, even going so far as uninstalling MS
Money 2004, and re-installing, but to no avail.
Eventually I've changed the password so it's not a Passport login for MS
Money.

Strange that this has just apparently started - does anyone have any idea why?

I have also had the same problem for last 2 weeks (with Money 2004). It's my
understanding that the time limit on downloading prices only came in with
Money 2005, so something has gone wrong at Microsoft Money HQ. Can anyine
comment?
Thanks, Steve

Another one here with the sign-in problem. (Money 2003).

Have tried the re-register fix on Msxml3.dll file but that hasn't
worked. Don't want to risk the more convoluted fixes in the above
article.

The following message has just been posted on the Money Network Status
site:

"Problems signing into older versions of Money

When: December 27, 2007

Effect: We are currently investigating a problem where you may have
problems signing into Money 2002-2004 (or Money 2002-2004 files that
were recently converted to a newer version of Money).

Until there is a fix available, you can try the following:

=2E.............If you have not changed your password, sign into Money
in "offline" mode.
=2E.............If you changed your password, sign in "offline" mode
using your previous (original) password.

1. Once you have successfully signed into your Money file, remove
the Windows Live ID from the file, convert the file to a newer version
of Money and then re-add the Windows Live ID.
2. If you have already converted your file to newer version, sign
into Money in "offline" mode. Change the Windows Live ID (Passport) to
the exact same Windows Live ID (using your current password).
3. Sign into Money in "offline" mode and use Money in offline mode
until there is a fix available."

Looks like we'll have to opt for option 3!

I meant this problem occurred in calendar years 2004 and 2005! Seems
it must be caused when they 'update' the servers! You know, the good-
old 'improvement' in service mentality!

Apart from keeping on trying to log-in via Passport, how will we know
when it's fixed?

I'm having the same problem as everyone else. I changed my password early on
in my quest to correct the situation. Now I have a new password saved and
cannot recall the old.

I cannot locate Password Manager under File to remove my passport option.
I'm working with Money 2004. Help please.

I think you are saying that you don't remember the Passport that
working on your Money 2004 file. I think you should think hard.
While I don't understand how this works, AFAIK you will need that. I
am not sure.

That would only be available once you are into the file.

New information has been posted on
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Common/NetworkStatus.aspx?
regarding the fix to the Money 2004, and before, Passport server
problem.

The best thing would be to wait until Saturday to let the fix get
propagated thru the servers.

OK, I'll hold my breath till Saturday. Not sure about where to use the
AFAIK, but I have worked on locating that old password for the last 4 1/2
hours... It was one of those preassigned by Net pass. I'm gonna think twice
about a lot of this stuff.

Come Saturday morning, it may just work with the Passport/LiveID
with the changed password. Try then.

"The BTW it is now fixed." Are yout referring to the 2004 Money Login
Problems that has been going on or another problem. I did try to login
in after seeing that message on the program 2004 Money and still am
not able to login in
- using old and new password. Also, signing in with and without on
line features. Any help would be great

As of Jan .13, 2008, I also cannot sign into my MS Money 2004 database
even though I have confirmed that my username and password are correct
(by signing into my Hotmail account).

This is true even though http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Common/NetworkStatus.aspx
no longer mentions this bug (so presumably it is fixed).

Furthermore, I cannot simply select "I do not need to use the features
that require Microsoft Passport this time". Even if I select it, the
"Next" button remains disabled. The only way to enable the button is
to enter my username and password, but that then gives me a message
that "The password you entered was incorrect. Please try again."

Upgrading does not help (I tried it with the MS Money Plus trial
version).

I cannot convert the .mny file to another format that some other
program can read (such as Quicken or GnuCash).

In short, taxes are due in 3 days, and since December 27 or so I
cannot get into my financial records.

Any ideas?

Mark
