Hi,

I updated my Money 2005 file with transactions from my bank into my
checking account. Among the transactions was an ATM transaction that closely
matched one of my uncleared/unaccepted online payments. I accidentally
clicked on Accept.

The accept box showed the match as:
Your Entry Credit Card Payment 130.00
Bank Entry Unknown Retailer 129.19

I cannot find a way to undo this match. If I try to edit the transaction,
the Pay To: and Amount: fields are disabled. The actual transaction is the
Unknown Retailer transaction, but the Pay To: shows Credit Card Payment. for
the uncleared Credit Card Payment. Even if I try to set the category to
reflect Credit Card Payment, it will have the wrong amount, as well as it
has not been marked with the E for Electronically Cleared through online
banking.

I attempted to delete the transaction so I could re enter it correctly,
and it reports "This transaction has been processed by your financial
institution. If you delete it, you won't be able to inquire about it and
your records may be incorrect. Do you really want to delete it?"

Of course I don't want to lose the ability to track the progress of an
online payment, so I click on No, then try Edit > Undo as well as ctrl+z.
Neither will allow me to unmatch the transaction.

Is there a way to undo accepting a transaction match? Please let me know if
I can provide any more information.

Thank You,
Greg

Can you restore from a backup prior to the time that you did this?
If so, then you can redo the download and make sure not to match
that transaction.

Hi Mark,

So there is no way to rematch a downloaded transaction when it is
matched to an online payment? Restore from Backup would work, but requires
me go back and re-enter the last two weeks of data which I spent a few hours
doing.

I guess if I have to keep a series of 10 or so backups and exit and
backup between every 5 or so transactions I would not be very impacted by
this problem. It would be much easier just to change the payee in the
transaction so that it would no longer match the online payment and create a
new downloaded transaction, which I heard prior versions would allow me to
do.

So far I have spent 75% of the time I use Money 2005 restoring from
backup and re entering data and only 25% actually using the product
productively. I only resored from backup in Money 2000 when I lost a hard
drive, and I used it for 4 full years. I'm on my 8th restore from backup in
2005.

Thank You,
Greg

No. There isn't.

A few hours? Wow, that's a lot longer than I would expect it
to take.

That's certainly one way of doing it, and I would definately suggest
that keeping multiple levels of backups is a good practice. I for
example, keep 3 levels of backups. Level one is daily which is
mirrored to my USB flash disk. Level 2 is weekly where I upload my
file to a server that uses RAID storage and is backed up regularly.
Level 3 is monthly where I take my file and write it - with all my
previous monthly backups - to a CDROM, and then store that CDROM
in a fireproof safe.

Another way of making sure that this doesn't happen in the future is
to be very careful when matching transactions - especially electronic
payments or transfers (as you've discovered). The occasional mistake
will happen but hopefully if you've got a rotating backup plan,
so you fixing the mistake won't be very costly.

You will find a lot of people in this group who don't like M05.
I am one of them. As well as this one:
