    - Re: Strange Payday rule... Hi Guys, Well, I know that Money 2005 is in full effect. I have been using MS Money Deluxe 2004 for about 6 months. I really love it! The only issue that still really bugs me is below. My wife still works for the School district and still gets paid on the 8th business day of each month. Does Money 2005 (any version) have the ability to set this up as a rule? If so I will prob buy, if not I will stick with 2004. :) Also, is there any other burning reasons to purchase 2005 (vice 2004)? I am just a regular user, that keeps track of debits (and use the payees, calendar, etc) and reconcile with my bank (not online, just download transactions).     - Multiple Change on Category Does Not Work Does anyone else have this problem? I just converted to Money 2005 Deluxe and I'm trying to clean some of my records up. When I am looking at a category (by going to Banking --> Account Tools --> Categories and Payees), it will show me all the transactions that have that category. There is a button that says "Change Category..." I can use this to change just one transaction, but if I highlight more than one, it will not change them all.     - Password issue on Restore? (Ahh!) I upgraded to Windows XP this weekend and reinstalled Money 2005. I have backups of my old money file. When I elect to "restore" my backup it asks for my account name (?) as usual and my .net password. The password I thought I was using is invalid so I chose "I forgot my password" and reset it. The new password also does not let me restore the money files. I'm totally locked out and I have no idea of what to do next. Help! Thanks.     - Linked Transactions/downloads I am new to MS Money 2004. Can someone please explain something to me... I have setup my accounts and have several with a particular bank: 'MyBank'. MyBank allows me to download my transactions from my credit, checking, and savings accounts. When I import all the transactions, many of them are actually associated (i.e. credit card payments from [MyBank: Checking] to [MyBank: Credit card A]). What I do understand (I think) from reading other posts, the FAQ, etc. is that expenses should be categorized in the credit card account and the credit card payments should be "Transferred" from the checking account to the credit card account. What I don't understand is when I go to the payment transaction in my checking account and mark it as a "Credit Card Payment" or "Transfer", it creates a duplicate transaction in the other (credit card) account and offsets my balance. What I would like to know is: 1. Is there a way to "Link" transactions that already exist in both accounts b/c they were downloaded without creating the duplicate? 2. If this is not possible, what is the best way to handle this? Not accept the downloaded transaction in the credit card account? Delete it if it has already be accepted? 3. Is it possible to retain different dates for the transaction? Meaning, the downloaded transaction in the checking account shows the date the payment was made from that account whereas the payment to the credit card account shows when it posted TO that account.     - I think the file corruption problem is the Investment Performance I really think that the crashing problem (or auto shutdown problem ) is the Investment Performance Module on the Homepage. I found that someone here in this board. I have not had this problem until the latest update. Microsoft please look into this ASAP. I do not want to move from your program, nor do I want to put countless hours rebuiding my info (again). If we could just come up with a way to remove it from the home page without opening the file, that woudl be great. Maybe a small utility that could allow us to mange the home page without actually launching Money. Heck even if was a program that just modified the home page by removing the Investment Performance Module from it. WHatever it takes, but lets get it done.     - Banking Online Quandry with Money 2002 My wife and I have separate accounts at the same bank. I was able to set up direct statements with my online sign-in information but can't figure out how to set up direct statements for my wife's accounts because she has a diferent login and pin.     - How to handle cashed cheques Hello, I'm new to these financial management programs and a few questions. 1) How do I enter an employment cheque that was taken to the bank and cashed without depositing it into my 'CHEQUING' account. Also sometimes most of the cash was deposited days later into my 'CHEQUING' account. I'm thinking of creating a separate account called 'CASH' and not use a category called 'CASH' so that I can do transfers back and forth between my 'CHEQUING' account and my 'CASH' account. Then I can do splits on the entries in my 'CASH' account for any large receipts for purchases that I made while the cash was in my pocket. Is this the correct way to go or are there other ways to do this that might be more effective. 2) Will the new 'CASH' account work for things like ATM machine withdrawals that show up in my 'CHEQUING' account entries? Would this just be a transfer from my 'CHEQUING' account to my new 'CASH' account. 3) I have other cheques that have been cashed at the bank but I want to keep track of the income. I've done this with GST Rebate cheques from the government for example. I think my new 'CASH' account would handle this also as I would enter the amount of the cheque into my new 'CASH' account as income. If I decide later to deposit some of the cash into my chequing account I will do a transfer from my 'CASH' account to my 'CHEQUING' account.     - File must be corrupt! Microsoft is going to loose a customer if no Hello, I am having the problem with Money 2005 shuting down right after opening my data file. I am a long time LISCENSED user of this program (5 yrs). I have tied everything including restore from an older file (last month), playing catch up by spending 5 hours reimporting and rekeying (I track everything with Money), and then I get the same problem. I am going to wait one week to see if anyone gives me any input on how to fix this problem. Then this liscensed for 5 years user (at 80 bucks a year * 5 years) will go but Quicken and use that instead forever never to return to Money. This has to be a bug that they have to know about. Please someone from Microsoft contact me to fix this. I noticed some real weird stuff. Like when I run the salvage utility the file INCREASES by 5 MB. I even tried archiving old data (everything older than Jan 1 2004, and the file got bigger (by 2MB-Should'nt it get smaller?). I am an IT guy, no spyware, all Win2K patched kept up to date on machine. I even tried another machine and got the same results. My file sizes range from 10 to 18MB (depending on acrhiving and salvaging). I get no error messages anywhere that I can see. Just Money shuts down after I get a glimpse of my data. Last chance before I move it all to Quicken! If I have to start over, I will not do it with this product unless I get some help.     - Rebuilding Money file... I think I am having some issues with my Money 2005 file that just doing a file repair is not going to fix. These issues include error messages when cashing in a CD; online problems with just one account; random crashes, etc. My file is 40MB and contains a number of years of data; some of which I really no longer need. Basically, what I am thinking of doing is completely rebuilding my data file. This would (1) Give me a fresh copy which may resolve some of my issues; and (2) Allow me to import only the last 5 years of data, which is really all that I want to use now (but keep the rest for archival purposes); and (3) Reduce the size of my data file. Anyone have ideas or instructions on doing a complete rebuild of Money's data file? Basically, I believe I need to do something like this: Create the new data file; Create all the accounts, categories, payees, etc as my old file; then reimport each account based upon the date (i.e. everything starting with 1/1/2000). Why doesn't MS isolate all other functions the software is doing (and apply the resources to the task at hand) when one is jumping through accounts to see and review accounts.     - Money 2005 Can't Delete Investments I would like to delete old investment transactions even though they distort net worth history etc. All goes ok until I get to an old options entry. When the buy and sell entries are deleted the investment name becomes bold (active) and it will not let me delete the "Investment". Worse yet, if I try to Rename the option investment Money 2005 crashes!! When Money restarts it was nice enough to have made the name change. But it is still calling it an active investment.     - It's official Money 05 bites I was originally very enthusiastic about Money 2005. It seemed to do everything for me. But now I realize when it doesn't do everything right, there's no blasted way to fix it, they don't fix bugs, and their technical support is all but worthless.     - Pocket Money Will Not Sync w/ Money 2005 I recently downloaded Pocket Money 2005 in order to sync my Money 2005 (run on an IBM laptop)with my Pocket PC, but so far I have not found a way to make it work. My situation is as follows: - I am using Active Sync version 3.7 and my Pocket PC functions on Windows Pocket PC 2003 (meeting the stated requirements). - Pocket Money successfully installs on the Pocket PC itself, but none of the accounts or information actually appear on the device. - I have checked off the "Microsoft Money Data" option in Active Sync. - The settings menu is NOT available for "Microsoft Money Data" so I cannot change any related options. - When I do attempt to sync the device with my laptop it only results in unresolved items. - When I attempt to resolve the items I recieve a message that says "One or more information types cannot be synchronized. Disconnect and reconnect your device." - When I disconnect and then reconnect my device, I receive the same message.     - Transaction to Read: 8 Every time! I've been using Money 2005 Home and Business for a month or so now getting everything manually migrated from 7 years of Quickbooks. I've gotten everything connected online with my bank and most everything seems to be working ok. However, every time I download from my bank (Washington Mutual) the same sets of transactions show in the "Transaction to read: X". I accept the transactions, matched to an earlier entry, the register shows fine and the next time I start M2K5 and try to do a download they show up again as needing to be read. What gives?     - Money 2005 launches for a few seconds, then closes Money 2005 launches for a few seconds, then closes itself immediately. I have been a satisfied user of MS Money from version 99 to 04. Never had a problem with MS Money. However, I recently upgraded to MS Money 2005, with no problems, until a later patch from Microsoft for MS Money 2005 was downloaded and installed. The patch evidently was so aggressive, that it required a conversion of my existing money file. My converted money file worked okay for the past month or so, but now Money 2005 is unable to stay running for more than a second. I restored a backup money file, archived (deleted) threes years of data, and the problem disappeared for awhile; then, the same problem starting happening again, practically overnight. My money file is about 8 meg now, but it was never more than 12 meg. I even tried using a "repaired" version of my money file, but the repair log did not indicate anything wrong, and the problem remains. What the heck did Microsoft do to MS Money 2005 to cause me this huge headache?     - 2005 - Canadian version So I tried the 2005 Canadian (Standard) version and realize that cash flow is no longer available. I use this area alot and Money wouldn't be useful to me without it; I'm going to return my copy. Unfortunately the Deluxe version is not available as a Canadian version, I would buy one if it was.     - Cert of Dep (CD) Redemption Error Message I have an investment account that I use to track two Certificate of Deposits that I own. I have cashed in one of them and have renewed the other one. When I attempt to enter a REDEEM CD activity, it always tells me ' This transaction cannot be entered'. That's it - no other explaination! I am not sure what I am doing wrong nor what to do next. I had set up this investmenet account a couple of years ago, and I think I set it up with no cash account (interest was automatically being reinvested into the CD).     - Reconciling Bank Statements Former Quicken User trying to make the Switch to Money. In Quicken I download all my bank transactions (daily), click on each one and accept it, then click "reconcile," and I am balanced to the penny every day. However, in Money, when I try to reconcile it still asks me for my paper statement, and things like the starting/ending balance, etc. In Quicken I had to the option of reconciling to the paper statment, or chosing the "electronic" statement or downloaded transactions/balances. The total purchase price is 95.31. In stead of having the entire 95.1 go into one account, I want the 90.00 to go into a different account then the 5.31.     - Money 2005 Is it possible to put in a negative paycheck? For instance, a server at a restaurant gets paid $2.10 per hour and still has to pay for their Insurance after taxes. This may actually result in a negative paycheck, where she/he has to pay the company the balance of the Insurance payment.     - Money 2005 Standard going back to the store Oh this was just wrong. I went out and bought my tax software, norton antivirus, and Money like I do every year. No, I had Money 2004 Standard and well I bought Money 2005 Standard thinking I was getting an improve update. I was wrong, they stripped out the only one feature that really mattered which is the cash flow forecast. My whole entire budget revolves around that feature and now it turns out to get what I already had that I need to shell out another $20 for an update or return what I bought and buy the "delux" version. I have downloaded money 05 from the internet and it installs fine and runs good the first time letting me know it has finished downloading the updates and to restart to use all of the features.     - Adv. Budget Debt Problem MM05 I'm trying to setup my advanced budget in MM05. The 1st major problem I see is in the Debt section. It correctly shows a line for Debt Reduction Planner from that setup. That amount INCLUDES my monthly mortgage payment. My mortgage payment is also setup in my Bills & Deposits and that is causing the monthly transfer to ALSO show up under the Debt section in my budget. This means that my monthly mortgage is counted twice in the budget. I can see no way to get it out of there (other than remove it from the debt plan or scheduled monthly bills).     - retroactively update share purchases?? WinXp/MM2003 I need some expert advice. I have been playing catchup since I now have some time to dedicate to my MS Money this week and I keep running into this very frustrating problem. My checking account is debited for investment purchases every month. A few days after that, my funds purchase new shares in each of several funds from that same transaction. The way I have it set up, I have one transaction which is split to make these purchases. for example on 1 December, my checking account is debited $100. Say, on december 5th, my fund company actually buys the shares for 4 funds at the closing price for that day (fund1 - $25, fund2 - $25, fund3 = 35, fund4 = $15). As a result of this, I have to go back to update the actual "buy" figures of investment fund purchases for price and quantity. When I make the changes, I get an error message that says "the changes you are making will cause the share balance of XXX to become negative at some point Please adjust your transactions to avoid this." It is not the same fund every time, and does not necessarily reflect the fund I am updating. I have tried to fnd info on this, but have only found suggestions relating to "sells". Why am I getting this error when I am buying and doing nothing to remove shares? Any help on this would be great! thanks, M.     - Why does money 2005 have multiple categories for the same thing?And why does it keep spliting the food categories apart on me? Take rent for example they have it in 2 places. On a side not why is food no longer have subcategories. The stupid restore categories breaks the food categories back apart even when explicitly place the subcategories before I do that.     - Money 2005 deluxe :Trouble sending payments I just upgraded from Money 2003 to Money 2005 Deluxe. Everything went fine until i tried to submit some payments to my bank. Money asked me to uodate my password. I called the bank to reset my password. I was then able to update my account on-line and money said the update was successful. When I try to send payments that are pending I keep getting an error that says to check my login credentials and try again and if the problem persists to contact my bank. I called the bank back. They hooked me up with Microsoft Tech support who after 45 minutes told me it was a bank problem and they would conference me in wiith the bank again and stay on the phone. They got the bank on the phone who again said it was a Money 2005 issue but tech support hung up on the conference call. Does anyone have any suggestions??? I would make an extra copy of your file in case you do not like the
result. Then go to Tools->FindAndReplace and choose the Advanced
Search. After you do the Find portion, it will present a Replace
portion. There you can make changes to the Payee or Category, etc
for selected transactions.
