MS Money 2006 will no longer play sounds. Money is no longer listed in
the Sounds and Audio Property list where you can select sounds to play.
How do I get Money sound back. The files can be seen in
C:\....MNYCoreFiles..
Thanks.

I'm assuming you've checked the "speaker" icon in the upper right corner to
make sure you haven't inadvertently turned sounds from Money off...

Hmmmmm, I don't see any speaker icon in the upper right corner of Money.
The only icon for speaker is in the task bar in lower right corner and
it is on and volume turned up. All other sounds work except Money Also
Money is not listed in the Program Events list in Windows where you can
associate sounds with events. It used to be there. Reinstall does not
put it back on the Program Events list. Something really crazy here. I
am running XP Pro and Money 2006. I wonder why I am missing an icon in
the upper right corner of the screen in Money? Thanks much for your reply.

Hmmmmm, I don't see any speaker icon in the upper right corner (of Money
Home) The speaker icon in the task bar shows on and volume turned
up. All other sounds except money work just fine. Money sound is
turned on in the settings menu. Thanks - I am running XP Pro and Money
2006 - but don't see any speaker icon in Money that I can turn off.
Also, Money is not even listed in the Program Events list in Windows
where you can associate sounds with actions. It used to be there. I
guess I will just have to upgrade to Money Plus Deluxe to get everything
working again.

There used to be one there. Not quite sure when it disappeared. These minor
features come and go with little fanfare and little reason.

You didn't reinstall from a trial version file did you? Some of those over
the years have downloaded and installed without the sounds.

I to remember an earlier version of Money that had a way to turn it off from
the header bar. I would

1) check the Money Setting under program settings to see if the box is
checked that you want sounds.
2) if checked then I would click the change sounds box and change a sound to
verify that Money is able to send sounds to the operating system
3) finally in the system control panel I would check the Money sounds to
verify that files exist.
4) as suggested the next step might be a reload of Money to correct
linkages.

I still use Money 2003. I discovered with it, the sounds were present only
when running Money from the account that was used to install it. In other
words, if Money was installed from admin account "Lon1", and ran from there,
sounds were present. But if I changed to power user account "Lon2", Money
would run, but no sounds were present. My solution was to temporarily
change Lon2 to an administrator, reinstall Money, then change Lon2 back to
power user. After that, sounds were present when running Money from the
power user account Lon2. Maybe this could be the issue. Good luck.

Well, I finally resolved the Money 2006 sound problem by upgrading to
Money Plus Deluxe.

This may have been a bad move as the new program hangs the entire
computer after putting in a putting in a deposit. I have to manually
shut down the machine to get out of the freeze. I read all the forum
things about Plus hangs and removed the items considered trouble cases.
I will start a new thread on my new problems with Plus. I never
though I would have so many problems with Money - I have been using it
since the very first version.

I would first go to Tools->Settings->ProgramSettings and set the
(GeneralDisplay:)StartMoneyWithThisPageOpen:AccountList

That should speed up your starting, since it sounds as if the
"home" page is probably associated with the slowness.

Then Tools->Settings->HomePageDisplayOptions and Remove the
BillsAndDeposits and SpendingTracker modules. If you still have a
problem when you go to the "home" page, remove all modules. If the
problem goes away, you can add things back until the slowness does
not happen.

If that doesn't do it, make a copy of your file, and try the effects
of File->Repair->RemoveAllBillsData on the copy.

If you choose to do it to your real file, before proceeding, make an
extra copy or backup of your file in case you want to undo
something.

The problem will be that if you remove all bills, you will probably
want to add at least some of your bills back. This can be done
manually with the aid of the reports that you print out before
removing the bills.

A technique that could help simplify re-entering your bills
afterward would be to go your register and selecting a
representative instance of your past bill and selecting "Make
Recurring" (Ctrl+E). This would be especially helpful if the bill
is complex, such as involving a split.
