    - Budget and stock trading All my stock trades show up as trasnfers in and out of budget accounts on my budget. What I would prefer is to have just the capital gains show up as other income, but instead I get: Transfers into buget accounts: $13056 under Income and a like statement under expenses. I don't really want stock trades to show up as transfers out of the corresponding Investment cash accts. Does this make sense to anybody? Tag: Locked out? Tag: 183847

    - Payees for Transactions I am still learning Money...I basically have all of my accounts setup, etc. but I haven't gotten into the reporting or other similar features. Two of my accounts are with the same FI. One is my checking account and the other is a credit card. When I make payments to the credit card, I transfer money from the checking account (on the FI's website, not in Money). When I download the transactions, they are listed as "Transfer to Mastercard", etc. I am wondering what if it is best to list the payee for these transactions in this manor? or, If I should treat it as if I were writing a paper check and list the payee as 'MyBank'.     - meaningful monthly time periods Hi: I wonder if there is a way within money to change your time periods to reflect meaningful dates. For me, a month never starts at the beginning of the month. It all depends on my pay-cycle. For example, the month of January does not start officially until Jan 13th, and ends Feb 10th.     - Dividend for stock already sold I just received a dividend for a stock that was eliminated by a merger. What happened is that the merger was effective 11/30 but the dividend was payable 12/15 to stockholders of record as of 11/15.     - MSN Money feedback I'm seriously looking at an alternative to upgrading to MS Money 2005 due to this group's comments on the product. I started looking at MSN Money at http://moneycentral.msn.com which appears at first glance to be a complete web-based version of MS Money 200x. Is this true? Does anyone have any experience using this portal as a complete standalone financial management tool? I know the cons would be that the data is not located on my PC but in some MS data wharehouse, but that doesn't bother me. I'm cursious if this portal has all of the payees, categories, accounts and robustness of MS Money for a PC. I tried looking for some help and couldn't find it and didn't want to create an account so I don't screw up my current information in Money 2002. Any feedback would be great. Also, what about costs? Is this portal absolutely free considering I don't make any trades or purchase credit reports, etc? Also, can I completely upload my data in my M02 *.mny file to this portal?     - 2005 TRIAL - BE CAREFUL Remember, if you download a TRIAL and you don't like it and want to revert, MONEY is not backwards compatable. You can LOOSE your data and it can be a pain.     - help w/ online services manager I just started using Money 2003 standard edition and cannot get the online services setup. When I click on a financial institution, such as Discover or T.Rowe Price, I get an error message: "Money cannot complete a required online call at this time. Please check your internet settings and try again." My internet connection works fine, I can go online from within Money, and for some reason my checking account data has been downloaded to Money.     - GIC (CD) Question After reading other questions and responses reagrding the creation and management of CD's, I have the following question: I have been struggling to find the appropriate investmant to use for a Canadian GIC (guaranteed interest), another user suggested using CD's which seems to work fine. My employer deposits an amount monthly to a GIC which is locked in for 5 years at a pre-determined interest rate. This started just over 5 yrs ago, so they are starting to mature. Since then, my employer switched to bi-weekly desposits, so now I have new deposits every 2 weeks, and maturing investments every month. Until now, I have been satisfied with tracking the investments and interest gains as a simple savings account. If I want to be as accurate as possible, do I have to create 60 (5 yrs times 12 months) CD investmants, all with different maturity dates and interest rates? and continue to do so every 2 weeks as long as my employer continues to deposit? This means that 5 years down the road I will have 130 small investments (26 pay periods times 5 yrs) and still have to create new names for the investments every 2 weeks. It seems like I am missing somthing fundamental, there must be an easier way. Also, I am transferring the maturing deposits to higher yield RRSP's. Is there an automatic feature that will perfom this task whenever the CD/GIC matures, or does it have to be done manually each time the investmant matures? I hope this makes sense to someone! Thanks!     - CC Acct Not Detected for SDCCU I added SDCCU to Money 2005 and all account with the instituion showed up under SDCCU except for my credit card with them. I did set up Passport (reluctantly) just so I could get online updates with this instituition. I have since setup the CC acct manually but now I'm not sure that it is updating online.     - Passport requirement BS! I just reinstalled my XP machine and reinstalled Money 2005. My problem is that when I open the MNY file or it s backup its says it can not convert it because drive is READ ONLY or protected; however, EVERYONE has full permissions on it! and when I try to create a NEW MNY file, it prompts me to create a PASSPORT (this s the MOSt BS piece of requirement).     - Fundamental Problem With CDs I must be doing something fundamentally wrong with the way I work with my CDs in Money 2005, and I'd appreciate some advice. I opened a one month CD a couple of years ago and I have just let the bank renew it automatically. When I enter the renewal information from the bank, Money requires me to "redeem" the CD, then "buy" a new CD. This is counter-intuitive since the bank uses the same account number. For example, I have to "redeem" CD Account 123 and "buy" a new CD Account 123 #2. Then a month later I "redeem" CD Account 123 #2 and "buy" CD Account 123 #3. Since each is treated as a separate investment, I can't track how the CD has done over a period of a couple of years. I can't compare how the CD has performed compared to other investments. When it comes to CDs, it appears Money 2005 can do nothing but register transactions. That's no better than the 3-ring binder that I have been using. Should I be taking a different approach?     - Update Prices Online... not updating stock prices - Money 2004 Hi all, I just upgraded from Money 2002 to Money 2004. In Money 2004 when I do a "Update prices Online" to update the prices of my stocks, this task runs to completion with out error but the actual stock prices are not updated. The "Read Call Summary Messages" for this task said it completed successfully. I even tried turning off my firewall. I went to "Update prices manually" and there was no new entries/prices for any of the stock. I verified my stocks still have the correct stock symbol listed. I also selected "Pick Quotes to Download" and made sure my stocks were selected to download update prices. Any ideas what the problem could be?     - Downloading transactions over and over For the most part I'm enjoying Money 05, but I've noticed that some of my MSN-linked bank accounts (ones kept up to date using the Yodlee service provided by the Money website) ocassionally download transactions that have already been downloaded and accepted. For example every day for the past week its downloaded 2 transactions in my checking account that I accepted a week ago.     - Tracking designated funds Periodically I will receive some funds (e.g. tax return, sale of stock, etc.) that I work out how to spend (e.g. to pay off debts, make specific purchases, etc.). In almost all cases, those funds are deposited in my primary checking account. In many cases, some of those funds get reallocated simply because they are in that checking account. What I would like to do is track those specific expenditures against those funds while they are in my checking account. Is there a way to do that without changing how they are categorized?     - Pre-tax accounts & budgeting OK... maybe I'm stupid, but how do I do the following? (Using Money 2003 Deluxe - Yes, I've suffered with this problem for 1.5 years now.) I have a medical pre-tax spending account set up on my paycheck so on my budget this amount shows under the "Transfer out of budget accounts" group (along with my 401k deduction). My pre-tax account is set up as an "asset" account. Here is my question. When I record an expense or withdrawl for a doctor's bill, etc., what category am I supposed to use? How does this whole process work? I knew how to do this in Quicken 98, but not in Money.     - Total Account Value Makes No Sense I have two CDs recorded in Money 2005 Investment Account. One CD is worth about $11,000, the other about $29,000. To me, that means the "Total Account Value" listed should be about $40,000. Instead, I see $69,000. This is the sum of the smaller CD plus two times the amount of the larger CD. Any explanation?     - Comparison of Quicken & Money--first impressions. Using Money 2005 and Quicken 2005. I have been a Money user for years. My goals in using the packages are to keep track of my checking accounts, investment accounts and credit cards and to watch my budget. I use my brokers free bill pay system and various outside services for investment decisions. I have been frustrated for some time with Money with their system for setting up and classifying categories and the continued inability to download transaction from my local bank and one of my investment brokers. I found the budget process very cumbersome. So I decided to try Quicken starting on the 1st of the year. The download took about 20 minutes on my DSL line. I was able to set up and download my local checking account, all my credit cards and both brokers in 4-5 hours. I had to make a few adjustments in my broker accounts for positions that were created prior to the dates I was able to download. What I like about Quicken is the fast downloads of all my accounts, the ability to set up classifications using the names I want and the budget set up (so far). I do not like the screens as well as the ones in Money 2005. It is too soon for me to tell if I will keep Quicken or not. Tag: Locked out? Tag: 183765

    - 2003 CDN Edition - Setting up a 5yr GIC I am trying to set up a retirement account that my employer contributes to; a 5 year guaranteed interest account. Even tho I have the CDN edition, all banking info and retirement account info is for US users, no CDN info available. Is this the same for '04 and '05 versions? What type of retirement account should I be choosing for the GIC (the 401K perhaps)? The account is just over 5 years old, so there are bi-weekly contributions from my employer, plus on a monthly basis, there are transfers out to RRSP's because of the maturing 5 year old deposits (the employer recently changed from monthly contributions to bi-weekly).     - Can't transfer money data file between computers I've tried, but failed, to transfer my money data file from my old computer to my new computer (old is ME, new is XP). No matter what I do I keep getting an error message "Money cannot locate [my file location and file name] or cannot open it."     - Last Updated date wrong on Account List Hi- When I click on Accounts it shows the Last Updated date for my broker to be 12/29/04 but I just updated it today and got transactions. When I click on the date it brings up the little box with the passwords and everything and in gray says last updated as 1/1/05. Now I just recently switched brokers and changed this account over to a new login and password so I am wondering if it might have something to do with that.     - How to enter company fund matching in 401k Can anyone explain how to accomplish the following: My company matches up to 6% of each 401k contribution I make each paycheck. The amount is vest 25% each year for the first 4 years of service. I am able to enter in all my paycheck deductions into my 401k account in money and it trackes properly. However, now that my 1st year is vested who do I enter the company matched part is it was purchased with each of my paychecks as a matching 6% amount.     - Quicken File Conversion I have tried to convert Quicken Premier 2005 files in Money 2004 & a trial version of 2005, and continue receiving the following error dialog: "Your Quicken data is contained in several files, and Money could not find all of them; or you are trying..." It continues to inform that all Quicken database files must be in the same directory. All of my Quicken database files do reside in the same directory. I categorized the original charge but I want the credit to offset the expense in that category.     - Money Counts Transfers as Income In MS Money 2004 Premium, I've noticed that in the "reports" section, "income and spending over time" report, that MS Money counts transfers between accounts as both an income and expense: income to the account receiving the transfer, and expense to the account the transfer comes from. This is a problem, as if I have a month with a few transfers between accounts, it totally screws up the income and expense: it can be much different than the prior month, even though in reality my income and expense levels are about the same.     - Downloaded broker statements I upgraded from MS2004 Deluxe to MS2005 Deluxe. I download statements from my broker. Error message says download unsuccessful, and to try again. But when checking the results in the investment page and home page, figures have in fact changed. But I'm not sure if dividends received will download. I have called my brokerage.     - Why is the data pulled down from an online update, ALL WRONG? I'm using Money 2004 Deluxe. I just figured out how to get online updates for my 403(b) from Fidelity. I've pull everything down into MS Money. Looked cool, at least for a while. Then I noticed that out of the 6 mutual funds I'm investing in, only 2 had symbols associated with them. So I tried to assign the symbols to the other 4. Only thing is when I did, I got error messages saying that the symbol was already in use. So then I went into help and found that if I went to the Investing menu option and choose "Work With Investments" and then choose "Choose a specific investment", I got a list of all of the mutual funds that I have, but they almost seem duplicated. For example, a partial list of the funds are: Fidelity Blue Chip Fidelity Blue Chip Growth (FBGRX) and most of the rest of the mutual funds that I downloaded from Fidelity, and apparently were already in MS Money. The ones downloaded from Fidelity didn't have the symbol, and the ones already in MS Money did (e.g.: the "FBGRX" above). Now, what do I do?! How do I combine them into the correct fund WITH the symbol? And what about other downloads of updates from Fidelity? Are they all going to have the wrong fund names with no symbols, requiring me to have to merge them again?     - Canadian investment types? I just purchased 2005 CDN edition to upgrade from the 2003 "international" edition that came with MS Works. I'm trying to set up a retirement account (both RRSP and RRIF), but the only options presented are US-based investment options (401k, 403b, IRA, Keogh, etc). I just phoned the Canadian support number, and they told me that I'll just have to try to figure out which US account type will mimic the Canadian account type I'm trying to set up. Is this true? After upgrading to 2005 I am unable to restore a backup file from my 2003
version. I am also unable to restore a backup from Money 2005. It says I have
the wrong password. When I go to reset that password through .net Money
doesn't accept the new password either. I'm locked out of my finances and
none of my backups can be opened?!

Help! Thanks.

Let Money 2005 create a new Money file, clicking Decline in the
process. It will do an update so that Help->About... says you
then have version 14.0.*.1105.

Then you should be able to open or restore your existing files.
