Lost Cost Basis during Account Transfer
I recently transferred an IRA from one broker to
another. To account for this transaction in Money 2002,
I followed the instructions to completely transfer an
account (portfolio screen/record special
activity/transfer an account) However, in the new
account, the cost basis has completely changed from what
it was in the old account. Is there a way to correct the
cost basis, or am I just screwed in accounting for the

Quicken conversion
MS Money 2004 Canadian won't convert my Quicken data. I
was using Quicken Basic 99 - the backup data for
conversion is on 2 floppy's with *.QB1 and *.QB2 as the
extensions. I tried changing the extensions but Money
didn't like that.
Quicken Basic 99 was pre-loaded on my machine and was
scrubbed so I cannot access it - all my financial data is
on these 2 floppy's. Help!

Unable to Print just one check
Hi,
I am in desperate need of help. We were able to print
one check at a time until lst night. As far as I know
there have been no chges to the settings of My Money. In
fact one check was printed last night and after that the
program will only allow two or more checks to be printed
at a time. When one check is selected to be printed the
print option does not appear on the left hand side of the
screen as it normally would. The option to print is only
displayed once two or more checks have been selected to
be printed.
Can someone please help??

Keeping my budget's yearly numbers intact
Let me first state that I am a newbie. When I set up my
budget making all of the items yearly budget items, it
figure out what the items income or expense would be per
month. Then when I look at yearly reports it transfers
the money per month back to a yearly total. The problem
is that many of my items are off by a few cents--for
example instead of our postage category being $2500
dollars it ends up being 2499.96.
I know why this is happening and it ends up being only a
few cents different, but I am putting our church finances
in Money and the quality of the report forms is important.
Also, is there anyway to add columns (or spaces) between
budget groups on the report forms or make the budget
groups print bold.

it seems that budget forcasting in 2000 has been replaces by cash flow
forcasting in 2004, i prefer the old way, is there anyway to duplicate

2004 Bank downloads not posting
My system connects and goes through the Online connection process without
incident for the financial institutions (though it fails to sych with Money
Central). Money knows that I have statements to be read and even knows how
many transactions are waiting - but the account registers do not have the
entries ready to be edited (nor have I found a way to get them into the
register).
I have run the Salvage utility (level 2) ; I have started money with the -s
switch (both which complete without errors); I have exported the accounts
into a Quicken format and re-imported them (a thorough bear of a task
considering that I have 5 years worth of records with multiple accounts).
I understand that I may have a possible data corruption issue - though I can
see all the data up to when it stopped and run reports, etc on it. Oh, and I
loaded the program on a different computer and used my data set and the
problem remains.
I have called the free support number and been disconnected three times
after about an hour on the phone each time (and half again as much waiting -
glad I got a case number <g>)
Does *anyone* have a suggestion for fixing the problem or escalating this
issue?
These are my finances and it is pretty important to me.

Money File Moved/Changed Causing D/L Trouble
Several months ago, I had a problem with Money 98s files,
and, in the course of correcting that problem, I created
a 'new' Money file that I worked from. Things were fine
till my bank did some upgrades, and I suddenly was no
longer able to directly download my statement from the
bank's website to M98. I was advised, here, that I needed
to save the statement as a file and Import it into Money.
I began doing that, and things worked well.
Yesterday, I found that someone else has had the same
problem, and, that you folks have evidently found a fix
for it. I followed these directions:
"Close Money
In Internet Explorer delete your browser temporary files
with
Tools->InternetOptions->DeleteFiles.
In IE6, uncheck
Tools->InternetOptions->DoNotSaveEncryptedPagesToDisk.
Then open Money with Start->Run and entering
"msmoney -s" without the quotes into the box."
I attempted to download my bank statement this morning and
received the following error message:
" 'C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content IE5
\QD8BID6P\221598[1].ofc is corrupted or is not a Money
data file. Make sure you are opening a file with an MNY
extension. If you have chosen the correct file and it
cannot be accessed, you will need to open your most recent
backup file to access your data.'
I hit OK and another window opened that gave me the option
to choose:
'Open/work with an existing Money or Quicken file'
I chose that, and my [correct] Money file opened, but,
there is no statement waiting for me.
What can I do to put the MOney file in the right 'spot,'
so that when I attempt to download my statement from the
bank to M98, it goes where it should?

Setting up retirement investment
In Money 2004 Premium, does anyone have a suggestion for
setting up IRA mutual fund investments? Is it best to set
up an account called "Retirement Investments" and add IRA
investments to that account or is it best to create
individual accounts for each IRA investment?

MSN Money Portfolio Link to Money 2004 file Not Automatically Updating
I am using Money 2004 on an XP home machine. I have my MSN Money Portfolio
Linked (In MSN Money, File->Import-> On my computer in Microsoft
Money->Choose Link Option). My Money 2004 file had a password (Passport)
but I removed it. The Money file does not have a password now. When I
first link the file to MSN Money it works as expected, brings all the
account from the Money file to the MSN Money portfolio, but it never
updates. When I "Re"import the file it works again and updates. My
understanding is when using the Link option as opposed to the Import option,
that the MSN Money Portfolio will automatically update when the Money 2004
file is updated. Is that correct? If so, do any of you have any idea how I
can get the automatic update Link to work properly? Thanks...

Running an old version of Microsoft Money on Windows 98
I have an old disk which came with my original computer
running windows 95. I would like to download Microsoft
Money from the support disk to my current computer with
windows 98. When I load the disk into my E drive, I get an
error message that file VBRUN300.dill cannot be found.
I downloaded VBRUN300.exe from the MSN download site, the
disk still will not run and I get the same message.

Money 99 -> Money 2004 File conversion
I have Money 1999 (Ver 7), with data dating back to 1995.
I have downloaded same region Money 2004 (M12GBWEB.exe).
The file conversion does not complete properly, ending in
a core dump. The same problem exists with Money 2003
(M11GBWEB.exe).
If I archive records from my Money 1999 file removing -
say - all records prior to 2000, I can load the resulting
data. However, I would like to keep all the data back to
1995 not just that since 2000.
Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Tracking Business Start Up Costs 2004 SBE
According to the IRS, expenses incurred to start a business up until the
point of actually opening are not considered regular expenses, but capital
costs that must be amortized over 60 months. There seems to be no account
type in money 2004 Small Biz. to cleanly track start up costs. So I created
a simple asset account which crudely serves this purpose, but I would think
Money would have a more elegant way to handle this since this version is

I know that the official "system requirements" for money 2004 don't include
Windows 95. However, some stores (e.g. Amazon) do list Windows 95 as a
supported "platform" when selling Money 2004. Therefore, my question is

Accessing money database on a home network
On a pervious versions of money I was able to access my
money data from a second computer on my LAN at home. Is it
possible to do this with Money 2003 or other later
versions. I'm sure security issues has made this more

Mutual funds merging with other mutual funds
In Money 2000 Deluxe, how do you record when a mutual fund
company combines with another mutual fund? I had 200
shares of fund a, which was combined with fund b, and I
ended up with 300 shares of fund b. However, there is no
exchange available in the investment options for mutual

Status bar display; Money 2004 Deluxe
Hello:
The reading for the Dow Jones Industrials in the Status bar display at
the bottom of the screen in Portfolio Manager has not changed in about 3
weeks, while the Nasdaq and S&P 500 work correctly and are updated daily
when I update prices. How can I fix this?

found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while back, I
was browsing through newsgroups, just like you
are now, and came across an article similar to this that said you could make
thousands of dollars within weeks with only an
initial investment of $6.00! So I thought, "Yeah right, this must be a

Is there a real reason to have the cash transaction

Duplicate Downloaded Statement
Good Afternoon, All...
I have a very elementary question, but, one that has me
stymied. I am running M98 and have just downloaded and
imported a bank statement. The problem is that I
downloaded over a month's worth of information that I
already had done. I don't know what will happen to my
register if I go through and clear these items as Money is
trying to get me to do. Is there a way that I can get rid
of the statement that Money is trying to get me to read?
Or, will 'clearing' the items as usual have any effect on
my register?

Automatic addition to payee list
I travel all the time in a motorhome, and use Visa for
most expenses. I download my Visa transactions as QIF
files and import them into Money 2003. My problem is that
Money automatically adds each new payee to the list of
payees. My list of payees just keeps growing and Growing
and GROWING.....
Does anyone know of a way to stop the automatic addition
to the list? I know I can manually remove them, I would
just rather they weren't added in the first palce.

Fund Price Update
My issue is different than the price update problems I have
read here.
MSN Money.ca's fund price is simply out-of-date.
For example, the search for TML705 (a Templeton fund) shows
the last nav price was Dec.3 Today is Dec.8 The last nav
should really be Dec. 5 (Friday).
MSN Money is supposed to get the price data from
Morningstar which is up-to-date.
Why is this? Anyone knows?

Due to other problems I reinstalled Money 2004. Now I
can't open it. I'm getting the error message "Unable to

What is the secret of printing invoices in Money2004?
I've tried three or four, and end up with text-over-text and other
positioning problems. They do *not* look like the kind of
low-buck-but-still-professional invoices I wanted to send out.
I'm using Money2004 Small Business (v12). Windows Me. Printing to an HP
LaserJet 5p.
Everyone has their favorite problem with Money, but for me it's always been
the printing, going back to Money98. I can accept it with Monthly Reports
that I alone see, but these are invoices for my business, and I wanted them
to look like something someone would want to pay!

Possible to download from Quickbooks?
Both of us are self employed and have been using
Quickbooks to manage our business. We will likely
continue to do this, as the business services in Money
are more limited. However, downloading our sales or even
our deposits recorded in Quickbooks would be so helpful,
rather than entering in every transaction twice in these
2 separate programs. It seems that it should be
possible; downloading from Quicken is an option. Any

Adding Real Estate Assets
I'm wondering where I would add income properties
(whether rentals or properties I've sold) in Money. If
it's rental income that I have coming in (not to mention
the rental's expenses such as cleaning), how do I set up
such an account?

Eliminating old or invalid stock symbols
I use Money 2004 Deluxe in conjunction with
MoneyCentral. I import my portfolio from Money into
MoneyCentral rather than link the two. I have to skip
missing ticker symbols for stocks that I no longer own.
Is there a better fix to eliminate these invalid symbols

accounts receivable problem in Money 2003 Deluxe & Business
I converted my Quicken B & P to Money 2003 D & B about 5 months ago. Today,
I tried running a Profit & Loss report and discovered the invoice payments
from my consulting were not showing in the income column. The account I use
to create invoices is not named "Accounts Recievable".
1. How to I check the account type is really A/R? Is that fact that it is an
invoice account sufficient proof?
2. When I record payment of an invoice, a deposit is recorded in my Bank
Account with the "Special Category" of "Payment for Invoice". Is there
something I can/need to do to make this appear as income?

Can't install money 2004
I have tried numerous install methods as listed in FAQ.
It starts gets to installing explorer then just quits
doing anything. This is the most troublesome program to

Maybe I'm missing something here. I'm downloading from my bank site by
saving to hard disc, then loading into Money, but I'd prefer to download
directly into Money.. I have the accounts setup in Money for active
downloading but, when I select "Open Active Statement" the site does it's
thing but where does the download go? It doesn't show transactions to be

Saving Budgeted Amount For yearly bills.
Hi all,
I have been using Money 2001 and could never figure this out properly and I
have now upgraded to Money 2003. It has frustrated me a lot, and I am
hoping that someone out there with better knowledge can help.
I have a MAIN account and a SAVINGS account. I have yearly bills (Car
Reg/Insurance etc) and I have entered them into my budget. Money says that
I should spend $x.xx per week on these items but as I am only billed yearly
I wish to transfer this money into my savings account so not to spend it.
Then when the bill comes and 12 months have past I will have enough in there
to pay the bill. The problem I am finding is that I don't SPEND the money
each week and only TRANSFER it so much budget says I have lots of money left
over to spend when really it is non-available funds. Is it possible to
document how much money is transferred from the budgeted amount into a
savings account and also keep the categories so I know there is $x.xx in the
Car Reg category, and $x.xx in the Car maintenance category?
I hope this makes sense, and that someone can lend a hand.

Problem showing refund to credit card
I am tracking expenses on a large remodeling project.
Purchases are generally made on a credit card. When
unused building supplies are returned, the store credits
my credit card. I have been unable to show this credit in
the same category and subcategory as the purchase. This
makes the project look more expensive than it really is.
