    - Can't sign in to 2004? Now, another problem. I can no longer sign in with my hotmail and password if "use Money's online features that require a passport" even though I am signed on to MSN with that passport.     - Repeated matching of downloaded transactions I have set up Money 2005 to download transactions from my accounts, which it matches to manually entered transactions. Money updates with my bank daily. My frustration is that every day I need to go through the same process of accepting the matched transactions for the SAME transactions.     - Cap gains report and porfolio error in foreign currency investment Using Money 2004 standard edition (I understand the same applies to Money 2005): Tax-Capital gains report of an investment in foreign currency shows an error. I'd appreciate if MVP's can try the recreation of the error and advise what plans Microsoft Development team has regarding correction of the error. The error can be recreated as follows: 1: set up a file using CA$ as base currency and an exchange rate of US$1 =CA$1.2 2: set up an investment account in US$ 3: 1/Jan/05, buy 1 share of MSFT @ US$100 (exchange rate US$1=CA$1.5 4: 2/Jan/05, sell 1 share of MSFT @ US$100 (exchange rate US$1=CA$1.3 5: Go to Reports-taxes-capital gains and display the capital gains, it will show: Capital Gains Investment account name 01/Jan/05 through 31/12/05 Investment Quantity Date Bought Date Sold Sale Proceeds Purchase Cost Gain/Loss MICROSOFT 1 01/01/05 02/01/05 US$108.33 us$125.00 (US$16.67) This is OBVIOUSLY incorrect, since a report in US$ should show ZERO gain/loss. The problem is that although the report says it is in US$, in reality, Money04 converts each transaction using the transaction exchange rate to C$, then reconverts back to US$ using the master exchange rate from OPTIONS.     - How to remove an account from Online Banking I have an account that has been closed recently (because of a ID theft issue) at a bank that I have other online accounts with. I have marked the account as close and MS Money still wants to download the bankning transaction, but since the account is closed it errors everytime. I can not locate any way of telling MS Money that this account is on longer available online. Can someone aid me or is this another bug to the growing list of bugs.     - 2004 downloads My downloaded information all of a sudden is being applied to the wrong accounts even thought the account numbers are correct. Help said to delete the last download. I did and it deleted all the download information since the account was started. It now says I have to cancel online for this account and set it up again but doesn't say how. Help please!     - Removing Financial Data From Passport Profile Money 2004. Hello, I made the, at least in my opinion, stupid mistake of not only using my Passport profile to log into my Money file, I allowed my financial data to be placed into my profile on their servers (I think its called Money Data on the Web, not sure though).     - Money Error Message - Money Reports I have been receiving an Error Message "Due to changes in your Money file, the saved version of the Money Auto-Saved Report" report is no longer valid. Money has attempted to reset this report, but you should delete it from your list of favorites and recreate it to avoid unreliable information." I've had this message come up over several months when entering transactions in Money 2004 and Money 2005. Anyone know how to fix this problem? BTW, I don't have any reports.     - Question about credit card accounts and budgets I have setup a credit card account and I want to track my balance, so I setup a transfer from checking to the CC account. It shows up in my budget under Transfers, but on all the budget reports (like Spending By Category or Weekly Spending), it doesn't show up. It seems like I have tried every different way to setup my accounts so I can budget payments and track the balance, but there's always one thing that doesn't work correctly. Can someone explain the "right" way to set up a basic checking and debt account so I can budget things and track the balance? And, no, I don't want to use the Debt Reduction Planner.     - Microsoft Money 2004-Signin with hotmail.com passport no longer wo Hello all -- I have Microsoft Money 2004 and recently, I've not been able to sign-in with my Passport Signin name and password. I keep getting the error "The sign-in attempt for PASSPORTEMAIL@hotmail.com was unsuccessful. Please try your sign-in name and password again. however, I can get into my hotmail.com email account with that password, and I can also use passport on other web sites.     - Renewed faith in MS Money I'm not a MS stockholder but wanted to convey a renewed faith in the MS Money application. I was using 2002 on a Pentium 2 with about 28MB of data back to the early 90's. For a while, I was one of those that was complaining on and off this list, seriously reviewing the alternatives like Moneydance, and seriously considering the jump, etc. I got distraught at the number of comments against 2005. My biggest complaint was the bulkiness of just opening and closing the file. I was concernced that one little hiccup would forever corrupt my file. Well, I bought a new Dell that came with 2004 Deluxe the other day. The new PC is not super fast by today's standards, but a low-end Pentium 4. I have to admit, it is like night and day opening and closing my MS Money file. I would guess 80% of my improvement may have come from the new disk drive. I didn't see alot of differences in features between 2002 vs 2004. However, the performance improvements were immense. At this stage, performance is what I'd like to see MS continue.     - Archive Process I am using Money 2005 (Deluxe). When I tried to archive all of my data prior to 2004, money created a file that is bigger than current file.     - Imported Money file has corrupt "ghost" bills I own Microsoft Money 2004 and imported my file into the latest trial version. The problem: I have NO bills in my bills category since I erased them all but for some odd reason the bills (and their alerts) still show up in my main home page. When I click on each bill it goes to the Bills Summary page where there are no bills listed. I have this with 4 bills and it's pretty annoying since I can't erase them or shut them off and they are reoccuring every month.     - Assigning proper transaction categories ? I am new to Microsoft Money and while things seem to be going very well I have a few transactions that I don't know how to catagorize. How should the following be catagorized? #1. An automatic withdrawl from my main checking account to saving? (And in the Savings Account, what should the 'deposit' be catagorized as?) #2. Deposit to main checking account? #3 Payment to a credit card from the main checking account? (And in the Credit Card Account, I seem to have a double-entry for a payment.     - Vanguard Brokerage: When will it be fixed? I cannot be the only one with problems connecting to vanguard brokerage since the upgrade from 2004 to 2005 deluxe. I've got an incident opened with MS, but they cannot commit to when it will be 'pushed' via the mind-wretching 'update' process. Does it take more noise from the masses? Please join in if you cannot get this to work correctly. Unbelievable that it worked for 2004 and not for 2005.... it isn't like Vanguard isn't one of the largest brokerages.     - Re-ocurring bills update In my previous version of money I could mark a re-ocurring bill updated by right clicking and selecting updated or simply by changing the amount to be paid. I use this so I could varify that I have approved or changed the amount due without having to refer back to my paper bill. I can't seem to do this in money 2005 deluxe. Any ideas? I am doing this because Money 2005 automatically downloads activity I had previousely documented in seperate 2004 Money Files.     - Cannot Delete Account - MIcrosoft please listen I have read several reports of the same issue I am having. I am a signer on multiple accounts at a bank, most of which are commercial accounts. One writes 4,000 payroll checks every other week. I have 2 personal accounts and 36 business accounts. I do not want money to download the transactions into my personal money software. I have shown those accounts as closed but Money '05 continues to download the transactions. I can not delete individual accounts because it will delete all of them. Money '04 could select accounts to update. I am too far into this to go back as I did not realize for a while this was happening and can not go back to '04 and reenter all of my transactions. Please listen Microsoft.....THIS IS NUTS. IT IS VERY BAD PROGRAMMING. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT THEY WERE SO UNWILLING TO WRITE THE CODE BETTER. TAKE A LITTLE MORE TIME AND WRITE THE CODE A LITTLE BETTER. (Yes I was yelling) I have not downloaded for 2 weeks. It took me 10 minutes to download and my accounts have been updating for 30 minutes now. The file size has grown tremendously (TODAY - 93 MEG)and I am sure it will get corrupted again sometime. I would love it if anyone else had a fix for this, but I am sure noone will because microsoft made a bad decision. Before some of you think I am a Microd=sfot basher I am not. I personally use almost all Microsoft products at home , even on my mac and have used Money over Quicken since 1998-99 or so. IN my company we have standardized on mnany MS products.     - Happy M05 User - Member of the silent majority OK - I'm getting a little tired of everyone saying what a piece of ad-laden crap Money 2005 is. I'm not a MS shill, but I consider my experience relatively common. I use M05 Deluxe, without a Passport, MSN or Yodlee link, to do the following: 1 - Track balances and transactions for several bank, credit card, loan and investment accounts. 2 - Enter transactions by hand as they occur 3 - Download transactions from any direct (non-Yodlee) institutions for verification that I'm not missing anything obvious 4 - Pay bills through my bank and their bill pay service. 5 - Update prices for 529 fund shares that aren't automatically downloaded 6 - Cash Flow Management 7 - Budget Management 8 - Sync to PPC Now, here's my experience: My home page is set to the Account List - no ads there... I add any transactions by hand in the various account registers - no ads there... I download transactions daily, and wait for the updates to finish, then go to the account registers - again no ads there... I go to the Bills Summary page to pay bills - no ads there... (if you count the single link to "Learn more about MSN Bill Pay" as an ad, then, fine - but, frankly, I know what I'm doing on this page, and I've never noticed it - found it doing research for this post - far less obtrusive than anything worth flaming a nearly free program about) I go to the Portfolio Manager page - no ads there (again, except for a couple of links on the left). Now, the way I see it, if you're using Money to do serious investment research, then the links are reasonable, and point you to live web-based info. If you're NOT using Money to do serious investment research (this is my case - I can't imagine using what amounts to freeware to drive investment decisions), then, as in the case above, the links on the left are very unobtrusive if you use the software primarily to manage your accounts. Investment Registers, no ads... Cash Manager, no ads ... Budget Manager, no ads... PPC, no ads... and so on. It's pretty clear where the web content is, especially for folks who are veteran Money users. If you're primarily complaining about tiny (and obvious) links or ads on pages that are INTENDED TO PROVIDE ADVICE which is likely to come from external sources, then I think you're being disingenuous. OK - off the soapbox - the Yodlee thing is a complete hack, but, even there, it isn't Yodlee itself, which is insanely useful as an aggregator, it's the tie to MSN that is the true hack. If they would have treated Yodlee as just another institution, and just pulled transactions locally to your local machine without MSN being involved, I think many of the M05 haters would be cheering loudly. Yes there are many annoying problems that have been around since M98, but the program is essentially free, and the market price download service itself pays for the software. In summary - should we demand everything MS promises? Absolutely. Is M05 the devil spawn? Not in the slightest. Don't use a Passport, treat it as the data aggregating tool that it is, and you'll be happy with it. If you expect it to be a CPA, tax adviser and lawyer, and provide you with broker-level investment advice (if that isn't, in itself, an oxymoron), then, since those are VALUE-ADDED features expect at least to see ads for them, or actually even (gasp) pay more for them. Since I don't expect those features from a (mostly) free program, I never see an obtrusive ad. Never. I know everyone will flame, but that's fine. There are the normal problems associated with every new release of any software (installation, configuration, etc), but really - it performs its core functions, and is a real value as well.     - stock option procedure I setup a stock option account. My employee gave me 111 shares in 2002. I was vested recently in Nov 2004, I decided to sell 70 to cover taxes and commission in order to keep the remaining 41. I am using MS2004 DLX. To reflect this in my account, should I "excercise & sell" all 111 in the investment account, then buy back 41? If so, where does Money reflect the portion that is income and shown on my W-2, box 12C, letter V? If not, I'd like to hear a better way to do it. I do know from the cash account, to perform a withdraw to handle all of the tax withholdings. Any suggestions would be great on the other questions.     - Running balance in bank account suddenly wrong! We went to enter todays transactions into a bank account, and noticed that the running balance was wrong by ~$250 :-| After *hours* of investigation it looks like the 'starting balance' for this account was now ~$250 higher than should have been! We have been on Money since 2001, and when we upgraded to 2004, we archived 2001 - 2002. When we upgraded to 2005 we archived 2003. We can't tell why M2005 *suddenly* decided that the starting balance was wrong, but this cast serious doubt on M2005 reliablity. Has anyone else had this problem? Beware people, beware!     - MONEY 2005 - summary info while balancing account gone in this version? Hello all, I have been using Money since '2002, and at this point, I'm about fed up with this supposed 'upgrade' of Money 2005. My bank statements (much like everyone elses, I assume) shows the total number of deposits/credit transactions, and a subtotal for those, and the total number of check/debit transactions, and a subtotal for those, as well. In previous versions of Money, I used to rely upon the same information being shown in the register while balancing my account to help me 'see' that I have the same number of deposits and/or credits, and it really helped to narrow down where a discrepency might be in the register. Now that I have started using Money 2005, I have noticed that this summary information is now missing in the register while balancing accounts. I've searched all over the product, to no avail at this point, for an option to turn these summary counts and totals back on while balancing an account, but I've yet to be able to find any such option. Does anyone know if this feature might be added back in or is it available to be turned on by some regkey or something similar? Any help is appreciated.... This is frustrating enough to make me want to stop using the product - I only switched to Money so I could sync w/ the Pocket PC, and I swear, it's been one series of frustrations with the product over another, and nothing seems to work as logically or simply as Quicken did/does.     - Budget Questions Using Money 2005 Standard Quicken has a very robust set-up for budgets. If the category was rateable (newspaper subscription) I could setup the budget for that category as such. If the category was not rateable (auto insurance which I pay once per year), I could setup the budget will the Auto Insurance amount in March. 1) I am not seeing this flexibility in Money's budget. Is it there and I am missing something? I ran some reports to look at the last 13 months of spending and income by category. I creating this report some numbers looked way off so I had to dig some more. I came up with some accounts and categories to exclude (dividends from my 401K and IRA's for example). 2) If Money's robust enough to handle exclusions like this? One of the first windows I see prompts shows me 'Automobile' $3500 and then asks me to enter a Monthly value. 3) How does Money determines that $3500? Is there a mapping I can look at?     - Bank of Oklahoma connection issue Hello, My wife and I have bank accounts sprawled throughout the US and so far 2005 Money Premium has been a champ at pulling them all into one location with one exception. I cannot make a successful connection to Bank of Oklahoma. I have verified the username and password, and have full functionality on BoK's online site.     - Budget Summary Error Hello out there. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. The budget summary for February is showing budgeted expense amounts that are different than how I originally created them. This problem occurs only with budgeted expenses that do NOT have an associated bill. For example, I budget $200 for dining out and the budget summary for "current month" shows $183.98. The summary page for "next month", "previous month", and "current year" all show the correct amounts. Only the "current" month summary page changes the values on every item. The Microsoft Knowledge Base doesn't have any article on the issue and at least one person has posted a similar problem here in this newsgroup.     - 2005 Bank Updates on closed account I had an equity line that I have paid off. When I go online to download the transactions for my other accounts at that bank M 05 D tries to obtain a balance for the closed account from the bank and reports an error that it could not download the tranactions becuase the acount does not exist with the bank. I have closed the account in M 05 D and it still tries to update the balance which is "0" in the register, the "account closed" is checked , etc. Any suggestions?     - How is tech support for Money? Hello -- I'm evaluating Money 2005, and these boards are very helpful in seeing the types of problems people are having. I think problems in software this complex are inevitable, so the real judgement should be how quickly and easily Microsoft people are able to make themselves available to solve problems, and then actually solve them. The MVP responses here seem great, but with all due respect to their knowledge it isn't backed up with the power to actually go in and fix things if they come up. So has anyone interacted with Microsoft tech support on Money issues? With so many distributed systems interacting here, my main concerns are not software-type install or bug issues, but sorting out things like the interaction between Money and MSN or Money and my banks online system. My worst case scenario is to have a major problem and have Microsoft say I have to call MSN, and MSN say I have to Money, or my bank, etc. Does anyone have any feedback to offer?     - Why are only some accounts on MSN Money? Hi folks -- I'm evaluating Money 2005 Trial Edition (Ver. 14.0.10.1105), and just coming around to trying the online accounts feature. The problem I'm having is that only two of my six accounts are visible online. Using the Money classifications I have 4 "Bank" accounts (three of which are actually cash accounts), 1 "Credit Account," and 1 "Other" account. When I log in to MSN Money all I see is 1 of my "Bank" accounts (my actual checking account) and my "Credit" account (a Visa card). I thought it had something to do with those particular institutions being online themselves, but through other interactions with them I not even sure that my archaic credit card company is even using computers at all, much less being online. Money doesn't offer synching with them from the native application at all. I've looked all over for some sort of "Publish to MSN" configuration option, but no luck.     - Installation Probelms with Money 99 and XP Pro I have successfully installed Money 99 on my laptop which has XP Home (SP2). When I try to install it on my desktop with XP Pro (SP 2), I receive the following message: "16 Bit Windows Subsystem - C:\Windows\System 32\Autoexec.NT. I now have Money 2005, was forced to go to it becasue my bank is not listed
in 2004 and want to downlaod statements. The problem I am having, I can
create the account but when I conenct it links to a "oops" page. Is this
something I will have to contact bank so that I can downlaod information?

If you name the bank, perhaps somebody will have experience with it.

If the bank was not listed in Money 2004, they are unlikely to be
helpful.
