• My Money - Financial News - No auto update? The default home page in MS Money 2007 has an area called "Financial News". When I open the program, my "Investment Summary" gets updated with new prices almost immediately. However, "Financial News" remains un-updated until I click "Update now". As far as I know, I have the program set to update everything automatically (not just prices). Why is the area not updating? Is there some switch somewhere that I don't know about? John G. • an easy way..to earn...in a momemt, Dear all, I recently joined AGLOCO because of a friend recommended it to me. I am now promoting it to you because I like the idea and I want you to share in what I think will be an exciting new Internet concept. AGLOCO's story is simple: Do you realize how valuable you are? Advertisers, search providers and online retailers are paying billions to reach you while you surf. How much of that money are you making? NONE! AGLOCO thinks you deserve a piece of the action. AGLOCO collects money from those companies on behalf of its members. (For example, Google currently pays AOL 10 cents for every Google search by an AOL user. And Google still has enough profit to pay $1.6 billion dollars for YouTube, an 18-month old site full of content that YouTube's users did not get paid for! AGLOCO will work to get its Members their share of this and more. AGLOCO is building a new form of online community that they call an Economic Network. They are not only paying Members their fair share, but they're building a community that will generate the kind of fortune that YouTube made. But instead of that wealth making only a few people rich, the entire community will get its share. What's the catch? No catch - no spyware, no pop-ups and no spam - membership and software are free and AGLOCO is 100% member owned. Privacy is a core value and AGLOCO never sells or rents member information. So do both of us a favor: Sign up for AGLOCO right now! If you use this link to sign up, I automatically get credit for referring you and helping to build AGLOCO. http://www.agloco.com/r/BBCD7893 Thanks Tag: Lifetime planner shows symbols for accounts names in results page Tag: 220662

        • Request Outlook + Money (calander+ Tasks) Calendar and task function in money makes about as much sense as having some limp money budgeting features in Outlook. Come on... the picture for MS Office has always shown separate colored pieces of a puzzle coming together because each application serves a purpose. Then they discontinue the windows mobile platform when it makes more and more sense with rapidly growing penetration in that area. Windows mobile also serves a purpose in relation to money, tracking expenses on the road or just keeping track of cash transactions are two examples of the top of my head. What is going on here â?¦ seems the powers that be are content with doing next nothing with this application and pay somebody 100$ to update some icons , distribute it and laugh at the people who buy it. Then I see that there is going to be an aggressive outdating for this app to force you to upgrade when to be honest there is no real reason to. • Fix for Money 2007 Transaction Changes Group, I posted earlier about having upgraded my MM04 to MM07 and having issues with transaction changes, specifically with the ability to "Unmatch" and to "Change" the transaction in order to map it to the correct transaction in my register. Here is my fix: I simply did a "Quick File Repair" and then a "Standard File Repair at Level 2" and it fixed my issues. Before doing a file repair of any kind, documentation says it's best to copy and rename your Money file in case you hose it during the process. I did back mine up, but apparently the process worked fine with no problems. NOTE: During the standard repair process, you will be asked with another dialog box to browse to the file you want to "open", and then it will have another space to enter the path to the resultant file (I'm not sure what this is). Either way, I opened the original file after the repair process finished and my problems were solved...at least for the time being. • Mutual fund names and symbols FOUND and NOT FOUND in Money 2007 I just purchased Money 2007. I converted a Quicken 2004 file that had over 10 years of transactions spread over 10 or so accounts. My problem has come when I've tried to set up the electronic interchange with several different financial institutions (Ameritrade and JP Morgan). Each of these accounts holds mutual funds that are also being held in other accounts. When Money stumbles on these mutual funds I see a dialog that states..."Money found the following investment in your brokerage statement." I am given two choices.. 1) "This investment is already in my investment portfolio with a different name. I use the following..." 2) "Add this as a new investment in my investment portfolio" Of course, neither of these is correct. The mutual fund is already in the portfolio with the correct symbol. If I choose the first option, the mutual fund is not in the drop down list. In fact NONE of my mutual funds are in the list. If I choose the second option and try to add it as a new investment, Money tells me. "You indicated that this is a new investment, but an investment already exists with the same ticker symbol" Interestingly, there are other drop down lists inside Money where my mutual funds do all show up (for example in the "Compare with investment" drop down seen on the investment price history screen). Thanks in advance for the help Russ Tag: Lifetime planner shows symbols for accounts names in results page Tag: 220641

        • importing credit card transactions I just upgraded from 2005 to 2006. Now my transactions from creditcard companies will not download. I go to the website, logon, and hit the download and the download box only appears for a second then disappears. I can't find any information, yet there are new transactions. In the past (2005), I would get the download box and could select where to download the file, then go and manually import it from within money. Any help is appreciated Tag: Lifetime planner shows symbols for accounts names in results page Tag: 220638

        • Money downloaded data incorrect Today, Money '07 downloaded some data automatically from my banks. On one of them, it listed three identical transactions (electronic deposits) for the same day when there was only one such transaction. The first "matched" my account register, the other two are listed as "new transactions". On checking the transaction history at the bank/broker's own web site, that correctly lists a single electronic deposit. How do I go about attempting to determine where the problem is, and who to contact to get it fixed? I realize that in the short term, I can accept the dupes and then delete them. -- Jeffrey Kaplan www.gordol.org The from userid is killfiled Send personal mail to gordol "You must save the eye that does not see. • YTD Total Return Calculation - Can Someone Explain? I am using MS Money 2007 and was just looking at my Portfolio Manager. For the year, I have lost money - yet the YTD Total Return still remains positive for my total portfolio. When I added YTD Total Return as a column, I noticed that a number of positions - particularly in-the-money employee stock options and money funds - have N/A as the YTD Total Return. Are these items simply excluded from all calculations (i.e. both as a base value for last years's end and for current value) to arrive at the YTD Total Return? If so, why? (Clearly they had a market value at EOY 2006 and a different one now.) Can someone explain? John G. Tag: Lifetime planner shows symbols for accounts names in results page Tag: 220636

        • FHA Loans Many people hear the term "FHA loan," and incorrectly assume the Federal Housing Administration is a mortgage lender. That is not the case. Established in 1934, the FHA helps lower-income, first-time home buyers get approved for a home loan by providing private lenders with mortgage insurance. This gives the lender the security of knowing the loan will be honored if the buyer defaults on the loan and allows buyers who might not otherwise qualify for a conventional loan get approved. FHA loans are available to individuals with less than perfect credit and often require a smaller down payment (usually at least 3%) than conventional loans. FHA loan limits vary throughout the country depending on the guidelines that apply to the particular market. The FHA and lender will require a real estate appraisal as a routine part of the mortgage application process. • Top 10 Things to Consider on Home Loans Here are our Top 10 most important things to consider when shopping for a Home Loan, Equity Line of Credit, or Refinance, courtesy of Loans-Directory.Org: Down-Payment Fixed Versus Adjustable Rate APR Loan Types Loan Amount Qualification, Income Loan Amount Qualification, Expenses Employment and Credit History Points Sub-Prime Loans Short-Forms 1=2E Down-Payment - As a general rule of thumb, lenders will be seeking contribution from you of around 3% to 6% of the total loan value. This can be negotiable, and there are many loan packages available. 2=2E Fixed versus Adjustable - The two most common loan products available for home mortgages are fixed rate versus adjustable rate. Fixed rate means that you agree on an APR (annual percentage rate) that does not change through the life of the loan, whereas, an Adjustable Rate Mortgage, better known as an ARM, means that rates and monthly payments can change, often tied to the U.S. Government Treasury Bills or some other form of "index", with the frequency of change dependent upon the terms of the loan. Deciding on which way to go involves many variables. We suggest that you start by examining the fixed rate products available on the market. They are by far the most popular, and arguably with the least amount of risk. After evaluating several preliminary loan offers (quotes) for fixed rate mortgages, you can then venture into the world of ARM's to see if one of these products may be right for you. But, proceed with caution, and understand all the risks, alongside any potential benefits. 3=2E APR - APR, better known as the annual percentage rate, aka: "rate", is arguably the most important consideration you must examine when looking for a loan. The APR includes principle, interest, "points", fees, PMI (Mortgage insurance), and other costs associated with the loan. While all costs and terms are significant and affect the bottom line, we suggest that shopping rate is a very good starting point. 4=2E Loan Types: There are several standard loan products to look for, including 30 year fixed, 15 year fixed, bi-weekly mortgages, 1 month ARM's, 5 year fixed ARM's, 2nd Fixed, ARM's with a provision to convert after 5 years, lender buydowns, and discounted mortgages. We think the best place to start, is to obtain quotes for a 30 year fixed rate loan, and then go from there. 30 year fixed rate loans generally produce the lowest monthly payments for fixed rate products, and they are relatively safe. Once you know where you stand with a 30 year fixed, after obtaining quotes from several lending institutions, then you can consider the possibility of exploring more exotic loan products. At this juncture, you will want to consult with those you trust, for good, solid advice and feedback on risk versus reward. 5=2E Loan Amount Qualification, Income: This can vary widely depending on you, your lender, and many other variables. However, as a rule of thumb, look at 2 to 2 =BD times your current household income, as a baseline to determine how much you can afford to borrow. 6=2E Loan Amount Qualification, Expenses: This is another broad category that varies from one lending institution to the next. However, there are two general factors to look at, and they are Housing Expenses (such as mortgage, property taxes, and insurance), and long-term debt (which can include credit cards, auto loans, etc.). First, add all your expenses together. As a rule of thumb, you will want your expenses to not exceed 33% to 36% of your gross household income. Second, examine your housing expenses only. As a rule of thumb, you'll want these expenses to not exceed 25% to 28% of your gross household income. 7=2E Employment and Credit History: Lenders generally want to take a look at your employment history so that... http://1st-loan-info.blogspot.com/2007/02/top-10-things-to-consider-on-home= -loans.html http://1st-top-info.blogspot.com/ Tag: Lifetime planner shows symbols for accounts names in results page Tag: 220615

        • Mass change of transaction types to Transfer trouble. Suggestions background: I am currently using Money 05 and have transfers forms on. In 2002 I had money all up to date in my banking life and stopped using it because of one problem or another. I just logged onto each of my banks and downloded all the missing information to date. In one bank I have a checking and savings account in. The file I downloaded from the bank has transfers incorrectly marked as deposits and withdrawls and nothing linked together. I also have money 07 trial installed on a different pc running a copy of the above database (for testing.) What I want to do is select all 200 transfers and change them from a withdrawl (or deposit) to a transfer. Money will let me select them one at a time and change them but, it will take days to fix all the transactions. If I do a find replace, it will not let me replace the transactions with a transfer transaction type. Any help or workarounds would be appreciated. • M04 data file: can I export to Quicken and import it back ? I may have a corrupt money data file and it seems my backup file has also got corrupted. I can open a new data file and one that was backed- up over 2 years ago but not the one from last weekend. Have tried the recovery steps outlined in microsoft suppport base, tried the salvage tool (quick repair seems to work but not Level 2 standard repair), upgrading to M07, a demo version of the "recovery for money" and also exporting to excel using the UltrasoftLink add-in but with no luck.. It seems the two options left to me are - 1. Can I import into quicken , hope for a miracle and if the miracle works, export it to M04 ? 2. Use a data recovery service.. Any thoughts if #1 has worked for anyone and also are there any other options available ? • New computer Hi All! I just recently upgraded to a new computer and am trying to get Money to run properly. I am not sure if it is supported, but I installed M07 Business on my new Vista Machine. It installed with no problems. I transfered My Money file over to the new system. Opening money, it shows all of my accounts and balances properly. The problem I am having is that when I try to do online updates, it hangs forever and never downloads the updated info from my bank. If I cancel, I get an error message that says... "Money was unable to contact the Internet, banking, or brokerage server because the server name was not recognized. Click connection settings in the tools menu and verify that your internet settings are configured correctly. (OFXIE12007)" I am able to connect to the internet just fine and I have checked the settings and all appears to be well. Am I missing something? Thanks! • Initial Account Sync with Fifth Third Bancorp Program: Microsoft Money 2007 Deluxe OS: XP Bank: Fifth Third Bancorp I just purchased and installed the software. I added a credit card account (Chase), which synced fine on the first try. I then added my banking information (checking and savings). That account is with Fifth Third Bancorp. I have tried several times to sync and it always gives me the following error: Microsoft Money could not receive information from your bank or brokerage. Please set up this account again. if the problem continues contact customer support. Money was unable to complete the opreation. The Internet, banking, or brokerage server you were trying to contact encountered an error. Please try your call again later. (OFXHTTP500) I have verified that my log on information is correct. I called my bank and they said that they show the syncs all processed successfully, but the information is obviously not importing. I have also verified that Money is set to sync through MSN Money and the correct username/passwords are working there. I have double checked my virus software and firewall. Nothing works. Chase continues to update, but Fifth Third always gives the above error. At one point i tried manually importing the account information, but that generated other errors and it would not fully import, so I deleted the information and tried to re-add everything again. However, I keep getting the same errors and the bank is certain everything is fine on their end. I am extremely frustrated, please let me know if you have any suggestions as to how I can resolve this problem! Tag: Lifetime planner shows symbols for accounts names in results page Tag: 220590

        • Money 2004 is broken, could recent updates be the culprit? When I first start money, everything looks fine on my homepage. If I go to one of my accounts, then try to delete a transaction, I get a message saying, "An error occurred, but Money ran out of memory while trying to retrieve and display details about what happened." The message box has two option buttons, "Yes" or "No," with no explanation of what I am saying yes or no to. If I then go back to the homepage, my home page now looks like this: http://i18.tinypic.com/4dzhqvl.png None of the homepage items show, and in the left-hand pane text and menus are stacked on top of each other. If I try to close money, I get an error message saying: "Not enough memory is available. If you have several applications open at the same time,, you might need to close one of them before starting Money." The only way to get money to close is to kill msmoney.exe from the Processes tab of Task Manager. I have tried uninstalling updates, then reinstalling money. I have tried repairing my money file. I have tried making a new money file. I have switched out my RAM. I am out of ideas. Any help would be graciously accepted. Thank You. • Incorrect checking balance on main page MS Money 2004. A couple of weeks ago, without making any changes to Money, I noticed my checking account balance on the main page was negative thousands. My actual balance, seen by clicking on that account, on the account page, shows the correct balance. Any ideas? Thanks. • Budgets - Bills - Reports - Not all working Together Summary: I have a recurring bill that appears in my budget in the correct category â?? with the monthly expense of $9.95 and M07 shows that it has budgeted $9.95 to pay for that bill. When I look at that category in several reports, the reports show that I have $0 set aside for that category, and that I am overspent in that category by $9.95. Can anyone help explain how/why budgets and bills seem to have a relationship, but this relationship does not carry over into the actual reports? The Details: I have typed in all of my bills into the bills section. For simplicity, I will only talk about one bill, my Cell phone bill and I will treat this as the only item in the budget. The cell phone bill is a monthly recurring bill due on the 10th of each month. It clearly displays in the bills area. I created a budget, and when I added the â??cell phoneâ?? category into the budget â?? my bill payment appeared. This is what my budget looks like: Bills: Cell Phone Cingular Monthly 9.95 Other expenses for â??Bills: Cell phoneâ?? Monthly 0.00 Subtotal Monthly 9.95 Notes: The recurring bill automatically appears in the budget (which is correct). The subtotal appears as 9.95 (which is correct). I did not put in any monthly amount for â??Other expenses for â??Bills: Cell phoneâ??â?? â?? because if I did put in letâ??s say, $9.95, then the subtotal would then be $19.90. I would basically be double-counting the bill payment. My budget would then show (at the very bottom of the budget screen) that I had total monthly expenses of $19.95. This would be double-counted, and I did not want that, so I changed the â??Other expenses for â??Bills: Cell phoneâ??â?? to $0.00, so at the bottom of the budget under â??Total Monthly Expensesâ??, it shows $9,95 as the total. Looks Good. I then went to the reports section, and pulled up a report (I tried several) â?? that showed, my spending versus what I had budgeted. These reports showed that I had errors because I had budgeted zero dollars for the category, but I had spent $9.95 in that category. HUH?! The budget shows that I have $9.95 set aside for the â??Bills: Cell phoneâ?? category, but in looking at several other reports â?? I have $0 set aside for the cell phone category and I am over spent by $9.95. Can anyone help explain how/why budgets and bills seem to have a relationship, but this relationship does not carry over into the actual reports? I am using the Advanced Budget. • Missing Investment Account I created a new investment account - I think I did it the same way that I created all of the others - but it does not show up in "My portfolio". It shows up on the "Account List" under the "Banking" menu option. It is properly listed in the "Investments" section of that list. The account appears to work correctly when I access it through the banking side - I can add transactions, it has both the cash and investment screens, etc. Has anyone ever encountered this???? • debt reduction planner I recently upgraded from Money 2001 to Money 2006 and I like it, but I have a complaint. In Money 2001 I used the debt reduction planner feature and it was very helpful. It seems to be absent in the Money 2006 version only in a premium package. I hope Microsoft will consider adding it to the standard version. Kaja Tag: Lifetime planner shows symbols for accounts names in results page Tag: 220568

        • microsoft money 2004 - corrupt data file. need help! Hi, I have been using Microsoft money since 2002. My data file probably got corrupted and I cannot seem to use it anymore. Appreciate any help as I do not wish to lose over 5 years of data. The last time I used it on Sat morning 2/24 it worked fine but when I tried logging in the evening (my file is passport protected) I got the message - "Money has detected that you did not close the My Money file before exiting Money needs to verify the information in the file. This may take a few minutes." When I press yes i get the message "the password is incorrect. please try again" So I tried restoring from the back-up file (my back-up is scheduled to back-up each time I exit the application and is stored in the same folder as the mymoney.mny file). So i used File >RestoreBackup but i get the error message that money cannot locate the file or its a read- only file or the disk drive is write protected. This message is the same http://support.microsoft.com/kb/182608/en-us Article ID 182608. I tried the quick repair and standard repair tool and both do not work. I also tried the demo version of "Recovery for Money" and by installing the trial version of Money 2007 to see if converting to that version might solve the issue but this did not help. Appreciate any help / suggestions. Has anyone used any application like "Recovery for Money" or a service like Data Recovery usa http://www.datarecoveryusa.com/microsoft_money_file_repair.htm Could you please share your experiences ? Thanks in advance, Rajat Tag: Lifetime planner shows symbols for accounts names in results page Tag: 220567

        • AGLOCO Dear , I recently joined AGLOCO because of a friend recommended it to me. If you use this link to sign up, I automatically get credit for referring you and helping to build AGLOCO. http://www.agloco.com/r/BBBY8642 Thanks Tag: Lifetime planner shows symbols for accounts names in results page Tag: 220564

        • How to mass change the Transaction Type? I just now figured out that I have been setting up my daily transfers to saving as withdrawals for the past year. So now I have >250 transactions I want to change from Withdrawal to Transfer. It seems the Find / replace wont let me change this. Is there another way? Also how do I setup a rule / flag so when ever it sees a specic "Pay To" name, it will always mark the transaction as a Transfer. Fro example- I use Bank of America - Keep the Change. I want all daily transactions to be marked as Transfers from now on. Thanks! Tag: Lifetime planner shows symbols for accounts names in results page Tag: 220563

        • US and Canadian bank accounts - how do you do it with MS Money 200 I purchased the US version of MS money 2007 home & business a few weeks back. I have accounts in both Canada and US. Though I have no problem in connecting to US bank accounts, I do not find a list of any of my Canadian banks. I know this may how US version ships, but I am sure there are people out there with foreign accounts like my self. Can the pros out there give me a few tips to go about this 'obsticle' I just hit? • Converting MSMoney 2004 file to MSMoney 2007 under Windows Vista Ive been using MSMoney 2004 on a laptop PC running Windows XP. I recently bought a desktop PC running Windows Vista Home Premium, and (separately) bought MS Money 2007. I am planning to install MS Money 2007 onto my Vista machine when the software arrives. Meantime, I thought I would download a trial copy of MS Money 2007 - rather than wait another week for the software to arrive. Once the software arrives then I will activate it using the product key which comes with my purchase. Anyway, to the point .... I installed the trial version of MS Money 2007 on Vista, started it up and then waited for Money to download the program updates. Once the program updates were installed, I copied the Money 2004 file onto Vista and opened the file from Money 2007. Money 2007 duly tried to convert the file, started and finished the process and then reported an error message 'file created in an earlier version of Money and is not compatible'. Any ideas? As a workaround, I uninstalled MS Money 2007 and installed a trial vers of Money 2005. Allowed it to donwload the program update and .... exactly the same problem. Ok, I think the 2004 file is corrupt - but no it still loads on MS Money 2004 on my notebook PC. Is this because Im using a trial version, or is this something to do with Vista? • Converting MSMoney 2004 file to MSMoney 2007 I've just bought MS Money 2007, formerly using MSMoney 2004. I try to open my money 2004 file using money 2007 and money 2007 tries to convert it but fails. Ive had a look on the Microsoft Site and found a knowledgebase article which suggests Money 2004 and earlier files cant be opened with Money 2006 and later. It suggests downloading a trial copy of Money 2005, using this to convert the 2004 file and then using Money 2007 which will read a 2005 file. Money 2005 tries to convert the 2004 file and fails. Anyone solved this problem or have a workaround? PS: I let Money 2005 download the money program update before I used it.
