    - HELP!! Convert Money 2004 file to Money 2005 Failed I uninstalled the Money 2004 and upgraded to Money 2005 and did the upgrade mny file process.... it simply shows "Money cannot locate mny file" or cannot open it, possibly because it is a read-only file or you do not have permission to change it or your disk is write protected. No matter I do the upgrade from mny file or backup file or do the repair. It always returns the above message during conversion. I actually can open the file from Money 2004 without any problem.     - Password won't save I use Bank of America and am experiencing much frustration trying to get the auto download to work. I have had luck a couple of times but I guess that is a known issue with Yodlee. My question is this. When I go to my Bank of America account setup and try and edit my id and password, it doesn't seem to save. I type in 6 characters in the password box and save, but when I go back into it it has 8 dots, not 6. So when I try and update my accounts it says I don't have the right login info.     - Money 2004 Password (No .net password I have been using money 2004 for the past year. I do have my file password proctected, however I did not use the .net password log in. the other day my main file got corrupted and when i tried to restore the backup, I am being prompted to log into the file with a .net account and password.     - question about MSN Deluxe stock screener (1) For search criteria, is there a way to search stocks on exchanges outside US markets, i.e. Canadian TSX exchange? (2) How to search using Insider trading as criteria? (3) when using something "rate" in search, I am assuming we should be entering the actual number i.e. "0.07" for 7%, instead of "7", correct?     - Error message Importing INV File I am using Money 2005 Samll Business and when I try to import a custom invoice I receive the following error message. Money cannot import an INV file that was created before July, 2002. Please try importing a more recent version of the file. I just created my file tonight and the properties say it was created 11/19/04 so there should be no problem with the date. I am set up for US regional settings.     - Why the bills is so slow ? I have a fast machine P4 3.0 Ghz with 1 gig RAM. I wonder why Money 2005 Premium is so slow compare to Money 2004. When I go in the Bills and record a bill it takes a lot of time before the action is finish. Also every month I buy Mutual Funds so I set up a buy from my check account in the Bills section. So when I record these buys it takes like 10 seconds to make the buy in Money ! Why it takes so much time ? it's only a buy from a check account ? Well i really think that Microsoft should speed up Money 2005 ! Lucky I have a fast machine because with my old PIII 600 I would uninstall Money 2005 and put Money 2004 with all the bugs !     - Entering a recurring paycheck through Bill Summary I want to enter my paycheck through Bill Summary. The directions say to click on Bill Summary, click New and then choose Paycheck.     - I download, accept, and the it downloads again When I download from Capital One, I am notified that I have statements to read. I go into the account, and accept them (there are two). The next time I open Money, it automatically downloads the same two items. So, the last time I used Money, I decided to just keep them as new, and not Accept them.     - Upgrading to newest money money updates... errors.. I've been using Money 2005 for a month or so... I decided to switch which computer I use it at at home. Just yesterday I think was the last update that asked me to back up my file. Now, I've installed the program on a new computer we got and everytime it tries to download the latest money update it crashes when it goes to install it. It says I dont have access to the file or that it may be 'read only' or not enough disk space (needs 100 megs). I can use the file perfect on the orginal computer, it's not marked read only, and there's over 40GB of space available. Any idea on what might be causing it? I can use the version of Monday that came on the 2005 CD without any problems if I create a new file. I uninstalled and reinstalled Money 5 times already hoping that one time would work. Any Ideas?     - Communications Error During 2005 Update Hi all, Has anyone else gotten a "Communcaitions Error" during the file conversion stage after the update to Money 2005 has been applied? The conversion fails, and then my Money file (which has info going back to 1996) and the backup are both garbage. Luckily I backed up file myself since I don't trust Money to do it right. Any ideas on how to get a successful coversion? I unistalled Money, and am using the pre-convert file with no problems, but every time I open the app it asks me if I want to install the update.     - Money crashes when trying to pay credit card bill. Hello - My Microsoft money crashes every time I try to pay a bill on one of my credit cards (always the same one, others work fine) from the Calendar screen.     - Budget Items being debited twice In M05, in the budget screen and reports, 2 of my 3 active loan payments are being totalled into the 'Budgeted' column incorrectly. 2 car payments which are calendarized and are associated to loans are being added in twice. The liability accounts are listed as 'not included in budget' as they were defined in M04, and their calendar items and actual payments appear on the Budget Summary and Reports under the 'DEBT' section heading. For some reason, M05 is taking the two car payments and adding them in twice, into a total that also includes my mortgage. So the 'Budgeted' amount each month is always inflated but the additional bogus amount. I have tweaked and twitched the settings on the accounts, calendar items, loans, budget, to no avail.     - Change Mapping Continued I have had to take my file back to one week ago when I bought 2005 Premium. Microsoft Support totally messed up the file, so I'm back where I started. I think I have three problems, and I'm going to take them on one at a time. Currently In my portfolio in another account, I have DTV Stock. Fidelity is trying to download "The DIRECTV Group Common Stock Fund" Should this be a new investment, different from Direct TV (DTV)? When I try to import and at the point with the radio buttons that say "This investment is already in my investment portfolio with a different name. I use the following investment in my investment portfolio to track this investment:". My Direct TV stock is not part of the drop down selection? So how should I handle this import?     - Portfolio Manager totals and negative values Has anyone noticed any odd calculations in Portfolio Manager totals for certain columns (such as income) when transactions contain negative values? For example, one of my holdings (an ADR) has recently distributed a dividend, followed by a 15% tax witholding, resulting in two dividend transactions downloaded from my broker (one with positive value, the next one with negative). Besides the fact that Money does not allow me to adjust category on the second transaction (since it is a "dividend" entry), portfolio manager now displays an income value that includes the dividend plus a positive amount for witholding entry. For example, if dividend was $100, and witholding at $15, total cash value of account was increased by $85 dollars, while portfolio manager Income column increased by $115.     - Money 2005 Deluxe (Trial) before/after update... Hi, I'm currently using the trial version of 2005, after upgrading from 2001. The date issue is still occuring after the update not sure on the other issue yet... I've noticed a couple of wierd things happening... I download OFX files from HSBC, the dates on them say last downloaded 22/12/2000. Is this a problem with the bank? or Money 2005 - seemed to work in 2001. I've got a credit card with HFC, and this seems to get the correct date. However there have been a few occaisons where the all of the transactions haven't downloaded, this seems to be when Money 2005 incorrectly tries to match a transaction. (I've had a loan payment try to match to the previous months payment which was very wierd...) In the end I had to download and save the ofx locally and go through things one by one. Each time I ran the import it would add a newly found item rather than all of them at once. Very very annoying.... :( The matching seemed to be much less likely to error in 2001 cf 2005.     - Account Positions Incorrect I'm having a problem reconciling positions in Money 2002 with statements I download from my broker. Specifically, when I look in my portfolio in Money, I see I have 40 shares of, for example, Ruby Tuesday. But when I download a statement from my broker, the ensuing wizard tells me my account quantity is actually 70 and advises I remove 30 shares. If I do this, Money enters a "Remove Shares" transaction for 30 shares. So when I go back to my portfolio, my position shows up as 10. But the wizard for importing account statements thinks it's 40 because it doesn't bug me to update my position again. I'm obviously doing something wrong here -- any idea what it is?     - Can't edit, delete or skip bills Money has decided that I can no longer edit or remove bills. I can add new bills, but I can't change any existing ones. When I try to edit a bill, I get to the edit screen and can change data. But when I click OK to save the data, the button click is ignored. I am left on the edit screen and the edit doesn't get saved. When I attempt to delete a bill I get an error dialog. When I attempt to skip all future occurrences of a bill it disappears, but then reappears next time I go to the bills page. I assume the money data file is somehow messed up. Now when I update my accounts, the accounts update but then Money goes to Update Quotes & other web info and never finishes the update. I eventually have to cancel the update.     - To upgrade or not after the fix? I have Premium 04 and have been reasonably happy with it. I do not use MSN bill pay and won't since I get bill pay free from Schwab. I have no pressing need to view my account away from home but it could be nice at times. A large portion of my transaction are investment related--stock and option buy/sells, dividends, interest and so on. My local Bank is not on the list of Banks supported in 05. Are the investment reports greatly improved or just reformatted? Will my current accounts be easily and correctly converted? Can the ads be turned off? Will my budget convert?     - Be caution to buy items from an eBay seller with too many feedback! On eBay, if a seller has 1 negative feedback with overall 100 feedback, and the other has 10 negative with overall 1000, are they the same rating as 99%? Well, not exactly ... What my experience tells me is to deal with the one with 100 feedback, not 1000 or 10000's power seller. Note that this is just from buyer's safety and self-protection point of view, nothing against any seller. We all understand that it is very difficult to satisfy all people in all times. If a seller has 100 feedback with only 1-2 negative feedback, it means he/she was working very hard to satisfy the buyers. It also means that the seller is not selling stuff that much, too often, so he/she does have time to deal with individual issues. In addition, because of less feedback posting, his/her first page of feedback is going away (to become the 2nd page) very slowly, and a negative feedback becomes very prominent, so of course the seller will try hard to avoid it. For a seller with 1000 or even 10000's (power seller), he/she likely is a professional, full-time seller, who is usually too busy to resolve every issue. His/Her S&H is usually very high (e.g. $20 S&H for an $50 item). The most important thing is, if something does go wrong, your negative feedback does not affect him much, becomes he/she receives dozens of positive feedback every day, which will quickly inundate one or two negative feedback, forcing them slid to the 2nd or 3rd page. Buyers usually only view the first page of seller's feedback. Some sellers with high number of feedback are agents of other retailers. For example, Seller A prepares and posts all auction pages for a local store Radio Shack, which is trying to get rid off all returned, out-of-date items online. Whenever a purchase is made, seller A faxes the buyer's name and address to the store, which then packs the item and ships. Seller A gets the commission and does nothing on actual packaging and shipping. He does not care about feedback. He just sells whatever he can. Local store does packaging and shipping but does not have time and desire or knowledge to check eBay's feedback or anything. This is also generating a weird phenomena at eBay that an item of $5 requires $10 S&H (standard). Big and small, heavy or light, all go thru UPS, even though the item may be just a refurbished PC card weighed only 0.3 ounce and can be easily fitted into any foam envelops and sent by USPS for a postage of $0.60.     - Money 2005 and Online Bill Payments I have online banking provided from my bank (RBC) and I am wondering how do you use Money 2005 to make a bill payment, then it automatically connects to my bank and makes the payment online? I know how to connect to my bank manually to make the payments, but this new version is supposed to work for my particular bank (previous versions never did) to work from within Money.     - New Update causes " Communication Error" I have tried several times to install this new update and still get the same error message. The message is "A communication error occured.     - Spending and snapshot on MyMoney Page On the home tab, it says NO DATA TO DISPLAY. I have put all the information in the account and all the dates look current.     - Backup to floppy (removable drive) failures... This feature used to work, but I haven't had a need to back up to an external device for a while, I've just been backing up to a network drive. The last time I backed up to my SD card was about 30 days ago, and it worked perfectly. Now, whenever I try to backup to the SD I get the error 'Backup to floppy drive failed or was canceled'. I can browse the SD card in explorer and transfer files just fine. The backup to the hardrive appears to still work. Any ideas?     - Unable to Install Trial Version Hello, I am writing here as my last attempt before I give up on this product altogether. I am a Quicken user, but I downloaded the Trial version of Money 2005 because I was considering switching over. Unfortunately, I cannot even complete the setup process. It will not detect my internet connection, even though I am certainly connected. I tried to contact tech support, but being a trial version, I do not have a product key.     - Reconcile Madness I am still unable to "set up online" with E-Trade Bank. I understood this issue was supposed to be corrected with the new patch. It isn't. Who desinged the register "match"? Obviously wasn't an accountant. When I enter checks manually into my register and then update the account online, the only option to "match" my entered transaction with the bank's downloaded transaction, leaves me with a corrected date in the register which is the date the bank received the check, not the day I wrote the check. This leaves my checks out of order and when I search for a check thru the register it is very disorganized because of the checks being out of date. When I change the new "matched" transaction date back to the date the check was written, so that my register dates and the check number go in numeric order, the next update goes thru the same thing. Very annoying. Any fix to this?? Is there any hope for a reconcile which will reconcile to the online balance instead of the monthly statement? This is extremely confusing having been used to Quicken's system they have had for years now which can reconcile the online balance to the currently downloaded account. Multiple transactions??? Netbank, Presidential bank, and others!!! I am growing weary of "accepting transactions which have been previously accepted; or so I thought. This is my first go-round with Money. I was a very happy Quicken user until the new version is now charging banks for access to their software, so some banks are refusing to pay this and the software won't allow downloads.     - Change mapping I am now getting automatic updates from my Investment account, when I click on the downloaded information "Positions" Money is trying to add 1100 shares of something called "Money Fund (TPBJ)" to my investment account. Funny thing is I have exactually 1100 shares of FDGRX. So I am thinking somehow this FDGRX got mapped to this "Money Fund (TPBJ)" How can I change this mapping in Money so it stops trying to add 1100 shares of something I don't have? Can I also delete this investment called "Money Fund (TPBJ)" from some list in Money? I also think FDGRX is mis-classified as a stock instead of a market fund, how do I change this?     - 2005 update / MSN billpay I just did the update. I'm trying to get some of my banks to work with Money, but I'm still getting the "you must disable MSN billpay" message.     - Retirement Account - Income in Tax Estimator Update 1105 did not fix this one for me. I've got accounts identified as Retirement accounts, but dividends still appear in taxable income. Program states it's not supposed to happen and it did not happen in Money 2004. Is this a known fault? I'd think it would be wasy to fix.     - Subject: V2003 - Moneyside note? I'm running V2003 Standard. For a long time there has been a note in the "MoneySide follow-up notes" that can not be deleted. Other notes therein can be added or deleted but not this one note. When I try to delete it V2003 will say: "Money was not able complete the operation because the item no longer exists. It may have been deleted by another process". I thought that when I archived the note would go away. It didn't. It is still there. I will appreciate instructions on how to delete this note. Thanks!     - Investment Dividend Problem... I own MSFT stock, and yesterday when I opened my money file, it told me that it was going to enter the special 3.08 dividend for me effective December 10th. I said OK... everything in my file looked great - all account balances were correct. I closed money, and re-opened it. I found that money had now classified my dividend as a debit, not a credit to my account! I manually went in and changed it and everything looked fine until I closed and reopened. Back to a debit. I ran both the quick and standard fixes on my file and tried again. Same problem. I deleted the transaction and tried to reenter it. Same problem. I have had a dividend post for MSFT before, and it is correct so I don't know what the problem is. My workaround that seemed to fix the problem (at least for now) is to enter it correctly, then immediatly mark the transaction as cleared. I closed money and reopened it and everything was fine. Seems to be a bug, but money doesn't touch the transaction now since it is classified as cleared. Any other users experiece this with MSFT or other dividend? Tag: Latest Money 2005 update Tag: 181059

    - Deleted Investments Re-appear in Money 05 File When I upgraded from Money 2004 I now see some investments which were deleted in the 2004 version reappear. I cannot work with these "ghost" investments as Money will not buy, sell etc with them. They appear to have been incorrectly included during the upgrade. Trying to delete etc does nothing.     - Problem with a tax-free security This is a complicated problem, please bear with me. I am using Money Premium 2005, and I started out by importing a data file from Quicken Premium 2004. This might be relevant to my problem. There is a report "Tax-Related Transactions" that I am trying to correct. I found that it was listing dividends from some of my tax-free mutual funds. This is wrong, because these dividends are certainly tax-free. By luck, I found that if I changed the relevant "dividend" transactions to "interest" transactions, these transactions would no longer appear in the report. Success. Except for one problem. I have a particular tax free exchange-traded fund that Money will not let me edit as described above. Any dividend transaction for this fund cannot be changed to an interest transaction. If I try to change dividend->interest, Money pops up an error dialog saying that this is not allowed for this type of security. So I went looking for some property of this exchange-traded fund that causes Money to impose this restriction. The only clue I have is that Money has classified this exchange-traded fund as a stock, rather than a mutual fund. I don't think that any of my other tax-free funds have been mis-classified in this manner. As an experiment, I would like to change it to a mutual fund. But I cannot figure out a way to change a stock into a mutual fund, in Money. Any suggestions? As an aside, I claim that this is a perfect example of how Microsoft fucks up the user's experience. Since money downloaded and installed the latest update my "My Money" file has
been corrupted. Now when Money starts, entries in my accounts are duplicated
and/or in triplicate.
I had a back up saved of "My Money" which i reverted to, but when opened in
Money a conversion process was gone through and the same happened. I
uninstalled money, reinstalled it, got the latest updates again (no choice)
and the same thing happens. My current account is showing -Â£19k.
Any one else have this??

Have answered my own problem.
When Money was syncronising with money on the web it caused the duplications.
I have now turned this feature off and removed all my data from the msn.
I then used my backed up copy of the money file which luckily was not to far
out of date.
All is well again.
Unlucky if you get this problem and don't have a backup of your data file!!!!
