I have been using the Investments to Watch section to track Investments I
don't want included in the assets section (like my wife's IRA), but want to
track activities. All has worked well until I upgraded to Money 2007. It
has deleted all the transactions from the accounts in this section.
I am tempted to reinstall my previous version and return Money 2007 to
Microsoft, but if there is a way to recover these transactions and get them
into 2007 I would like to know. In addition to the backed up files 2007
made, I have made copies of the native files and retained them so a
reinstall of 2005 will be relatively easy. 2007 looks like 2005 with a few
buttons moved around

Are you saying you see the account, you can go to the account
register, but you not the transactions in your "Investments to
Watch" watch account?

Yes. All the Investments I watched are listed. Before the conversion, 4-5
of the investments had years of transactions associated with them, some had
zero balances, but several were active with shares costs and market values
shown. Now there are no transactions and the columns are empty except the
name last price and change. All of the lost transactions are in investments
that show up in other tracked groups, like my IRA and Investments. Just the
transactions associated with the Investments to Watch disappeared, the
others are still there.

For example. Vanguard Federal Money Market Fund had activity in all 3
'accounts' My IRA Investments to Watch and Investments. All 3 had balances
before conversion. Now all the transactions for the Investments to watch
account have disappeared but the ones for My IRA and Investments are all
still there.

Odd. Make sure you are in advanced register. Make sure that
View:AllTransactionsCoveringAllDates,SortedByDate(Increasing) is
selected.

If the problem persists, contact Microsoft.

Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately both conditions are already
true. I will contact Microsoft, but I will have to go back to 2005 until I
get it resolved as there are hundreds of transactions missing which I don't
want to try to re-enter manually, and I don't want to get too far behind
with current transactions which I may have to re-enter. I think I remember
that you can run both versions, each with it's own files. Would this be an
option while waiting for results, and what is the best way to contact
Microsoft about this problem.
Thanks again.

You are putting hundreds of transactions into a watch account? A
watch account is intended for pretend transactions. If these are
real, you probably would want to go to the account details, and make
the account not be called a watch account.

Have the data files named differently.

Reinstall Money 2005. Open Sample.mny in its install folder to let
updates apply. If the install will not install, you may have to
un-install Money 2007 for a while. When you reinstall Money 2007,
pay attention to not have the earlier version uninstalled during the
process.

You will need to write down your serial number from your
retail-purchased Money 2007 installation (Help->About), and supply
that as your product identification number.

In Money 2007, help will have info. It would get you to
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&gprid=11403&

For Money 2002,3,4,5 this has been an easy way to track all the activity and
have an easy place to see the value WITHOUT it being included in the assets
section of the balance sheet.

I expect that to be true for Money 2007 also. However you would miss
out on performance data in the Portfolio view that for some reason
is not included for watch accounts.

I would have expected your transactions in your Money 2005 watch
account to come over into Money 2007. So if it didn't, it surprises
me. I guess my surprise threshold may be too low. Let us know what
you find out.

I don't know about the "balance sheet", but if it is like a report,
I would expect that you could Customize to determine what accounts
were included. I think Money Business has a way to mark an account
as personal. Wouldn't that keep the account out of the balance
sheet?

The account list is what would usually be called a balance sheet. Assets -
Liabilities = Net Assets (Total Account Balance)
I will contact MSFT to find out why after 4 versions (at least) they didn't
convert the Watch transactions (and didn't ask).

Found the setting that got turned off in the upgrade. All works as it has
for years. Assets on investments page but not included in accounts listing.
Thanks
