I know this has been addressed before, and I think I've tried the fixes to no
avail, but I'd like to try again. I've searched the database and can't find
anything on this anymore.

I have accounts that are closed and should have zero balances, but they have
infinitessimal fractions of shares lurking and I can't seem to get rid of
them with "Remove shares," etc. I'm using Money 2006, but I had this problem
even with an older version.

In what ways does "remove shares" fail? More details would help.

If I try to remove 0.0000005 or more shares, it will give me a message about
negative balances or something and won't process the transaction. I can
remove 0.0000004 shares an infinite number of times, but it never removes the
account from my investment summary.

From the account register, click AccountSummary on the left and then
AccountUpdate on the bottom.

Enter 0 in the TotalQuantity column for the problem security, and
then click SaveAndFinish at the bottom.

The problem securities do not appear in the Account Update.

Hmmm. I wonder what would happen if you did an AddShares of 1 share
and then did the AccountUpdate to 0 shares.... Will it generate the
Remove shares of the 1.0004444 that you need?

No, that didn't work. I decided the problem might be that I had originally
had the security in one account, then transferred it to another account, and
deleted the first account. So I got deleted every transaction related to the
old account. The only transactions are one "Add Shares" and one "Sell," both
for the same quantity and both in the new account. Still, the investment
shows up on my investment summary.

Let me revise that. I originally had the security in one account, then
transferred it to another account, and closed the first account. I restored
my backup, so I have all of the transactions back in place. I rounded all the
transactions to 3 decimal places. All of the math checks out fine. There is
not a trace of spare decimal places floating around, and yet I continue to
have 4 problem securities in my investment summary.

I had a similar problem with an infinitesmal number of shares that I
couldn't get rid of. For reasons I can't explain, the problem resolved
itself when I moved to Money 2007.

If everything else is working for you in 06 -- and you can live with this
issue -- stick with it. In fact, there are a number of enhancements in 07,
but they might not mean much to you.

I'll research it a little. This problem is more of an annoyance than a real
functionality problem (although it really should be easier to fix than it
is). The only other problem I have is the "weighted cost average of $0.00"
issue; I guess I need to research that one next.

I have this problem in 06. Just upgraded to 07. Same problem. 07 doesn't
fix it. This is getting pretty annoying and is definitely a bug on the MS
Money side. I wonder how we can get M$ to fix this.

FYI, for me, there is less complexity. All the shares have stayed in the
same account, which eventually was closed. All the shares were sold, and
the cash transfered to another account. And all these positions still show
up my Investment Summary.

I have the same problem. My stock delisted so I get a "no price" every day
on my investment summary display. It never moved accounts or anything. It
was a dividend stock that I auto-reinvested so I had fractional shares. I
think M$ has trouble rounding the shares when you download transactions from
your broker...

WF... thanks, I was just about ready to go buy Money 2007 to fix this problem
when I saw your reply... right now, I have 38 securties that I've sold
through the years which are still showing up on Investment summary. This
problem has been around over 5 years, seems like Microsoft would have fixed
this problem by now.

Ditto. I have also been trying to find a solution to the problem of closed
accounts, or securities, appearing on the Investment Summary for several
years now. Seems like anyone who has been using money for years would have
this same problem, and I agree it seems like Microsoft would have addressed
it long before now.
