    - Money 2005 Buget Hey All, Haveing a problem with a budget I have created that looks after House hold budgets, for one particular account. For some reason it shows special debt in the reports and budget summary. The debt comes from payments made up from a loan account and increase accordingly as the loan is paid off. - No special debt was selected when the budget was set up and dosn't show when expenses are selected. - The payments for the loan come out of a seperate account and that account is not selected under this particular budget. The special debt only goes away when the loan acount is deleted and I can't find any reason why it is linking the loan account to my budget? any ideas? Regards Jon Tag: XP Interface... Tag: 184916

    - Bank Downloads Last week I decided I wanted to start using MONEY to create a budget and to track actual expenses. I started by surfing this Newsgroup to pick up tips etc. I was intrigued by the response to a question posed by Peter J who I think was fed up having to purchase QUICKEN every year and was asking if MONEY was different. The response was that one had to purchase a new version of MONEY every second year in order to have the ability to download transactions from one's financial institution. I thought that was ridiculous waste of money to simply track one's spending habits and shelved my intention of using MONEY. Today with spare time on my hands I tried downloading my monthly transactions from my checking account and also from my visa account. Lo and behold both were available to me when I opened up MONEY 99, yes that's right 1999. Thus I am seeking clarification. Is there a difference between downloading a file from an institution versus using MONEY to import a file? For whatever it's worth MONEY can't seem to access the Internet as it keeps asking me to update INTERNET INFORMATION and although I try, it keeps asking. However it appears to accept a download.     - Budget, Bills & Deposits problem. I have been using money for three or four years now. I have used 2000,2003, and now am on 2005. I have upgraded evertime hopgin that tey would fix the problem with the special category configuration option. First i do not see where there are options for these special transactions. Secondly to be more specific if you use the "paycheck" option to track income everythgin will work fine. But i made the mistake of putting the "paycheck" feature in a deposit that i had recored in teh "bills & deposits" Function. Once you do this it messes up any budgeting that you have ever done in the categories that are included in the "paycheck" function. Such as gross pay, and any taxes. The problem is that when you go to any of the budgets and go to the specific categories that i just references and click to edit the category it gives you a window that askes what you would like to edit the amount or add to it. The problem is you cannot do anyhgin to the amount that is highlighted. It is always there no matter what. I have tried to delete the deposit and even tryied to make a new budget nothgin will get rid of it. All i can figure is that you need to edit the special category for "paycheck". thank for any help.     - Upgrade Pain Just upgraded from Money 2004 to Money 2005 for business. More banks are covered, and this is a good thing. But when I set up the online services (both new and old), new accounts are created and there is no option to match the new account with my existing account. So I'll have to close my existing account and accept the new account. This way, I lost my current register and have to start over again. This is such a pain.     - Bank Balance vs. Adj. Balance? (Money 05) This is the new Money 2005 for Business. I'm somehow confused by the "Bank Balance" vs. "Adj. Balance" One of my accounts is Bank of America Texas. Money can get statement directly from BofA. The "bank balance" is what shown at the bank. But new transaction are not downloaded. The last transaction shown in my Money bank register is about 5-day old. No new transactions are downloaded. Of course, the "bank balance" and the "adj. balance" are different. I'm think about going back to Money 2004. I'll have to download statements from the web, but it is very reliable. Is there any way to fix the above problem.     - Bank Reconciliation report I've finally decided to move from my old MoneyCounts program that wasn't supposed to work after 12/31/1999 (and it did) to Money. Now I'm finding all the neat features of a little mom-and-pop type of program that cost less than $50 are not to be found in a upscale more costly program! 1. No paper reconciliation reports of any kind 2. I find it very difficult to create accounts that make any accounting sense. I'm having to post a lot of transaction to "Miscellaneous Expense," which shouldn't even be an option according to all the accounting I've ever learned. 3. MoneyCounts took about 10 minutes to set up and start going through. I've been working on Money for 2 weeks, and still struggle through what should be simple transactions. 4. MoneyCounts allowed you to append check numbers (100A, 100B, etc.) so that non-check transactions in the program would follor your paper register. Not so in Money -- anything appended to the check number gets sorted in its own way; no transaction number entries are all grouped together, rather than displayed in the order they were entered. 5. "Memorized" transactions in MoneyCounts WERE memorized, not something you had to continually tweak in order to get them in. Thank goodness it's still early in the year!     - Send Electronic Transactions and Update Account Hi. I'm new to Money and at times have trouble finding certain things. Updating accounts and sending electronic bills are two different processes. Is there a way to combine them? I want to update and submit any bills at the same time.     - Rate of return calculations in Money 2005 Based on my entire group of investment accounts, Money 2005 reports the following: 1. In Portfolio Manager, the "YTD Total Return" shown at the bottom of the screen is 0.9%. 2. In the "Performance by Investment Account" report, customized as a non-sub-totalled, year-to-date report for the same accounts, the "% Rate of Return" is 1.24%. I'm trying to determine my IRR - internal rate of return - and don't find either of the above terms defined in Money Help and I don't know what "YTD Total Return"and "% Rate of Return" mean or how they differ.     - Trying to decide between Quicken and Money 2005 I currently use Money 2003 and have been experiencing problems with getting a quick snapshot of finances (budget vs actuals and remaining balance and indicators to let me know how close I am to limit in any budget category). I am contemplating buying Money 05 or Quicken 05, but need more info than web sites provide. My main concerns apart from above are as follows: 1. Need tool to automatically categorize transactions (Money 03 only recognized certain transactions, like grocery store names, but didn't pick up recurring transactions at particular clothing stores, for example). 2. Need capability for tracking of expenses of two parties (Bob and Mary), individually per budget category. 3. Need ability to query finances based on party, budget category, overages and average spending per category. 4. Need an indicator as to when expenses are within predefined percentage of budget amount. (Money 03 had "thermometer bars that measured how close you are to limit for particular category. Does Quicken have this or similar feature. Can you customize it to let you know if, for example you've spent more than 70% of budget category before mid-month?) 4. Need the tool to be customizable to include roll-up summaries for each predefined budget category. This is helpful for the quick snapshot view of finances. Do both products provide this feature?     - E*Trade positions download rounding errors 2005 When I download an online "statement" from E*Trade, Money 2005 reports that most of my positions don't match the statement, and prompts me to "Add 0 shares," or "Remove 0 shares." I did convert from an earlier version of Money. Allowing money to enter these add/remove transactions does not appear to solve the problem permanently.     - Cost Basis of IRA Microsoft Money 2005 Deluxe appears to add reinvested dividends and capital gains to the initial purchase price of a mutal fund when computing the cost basis for a traditional IRA. However, because no tax is paid on dividends and capital gains within an IRA, these sums should be excluded from the cost basis because they represent asset appreciation which is only taxed when withdrawals begin. In other words, the cost basis for an IRA is only equal to the sum of the contributions, exclusive of appreciation (see IRS Form 8606).     - Last Updated Column in Account List I also seem to have a problem with my Vanguard account in the account list. Even though the data is updated, the "last updated" field in the Account List screen says 1/2/2005. All the rest of my accounts show today's date. I find it hard to believe that Vanguard would say the account was last updated on 1/2/2005. Does anyone else have this particular problem with their Vanguard account(s)? Or is it a bug in Money 2005?     - Weird reports problem>>>???? I customized my Spending By Category report so that it reflects ONLY one of my bank and credit card accounts I have in my MS Money. So now when I go to reports and choose Spending by Category everything works the way I want it to, but when I click on Home - My Money and see the Spending By Category report there, it reflects ALL my accounts for some reason.     - Credit Detail Issue with 2005 Standard There is a issue with Money 2005 standard - you can not access or change the credit details on your credit card accounts (interest rate, credit limit, etc.) The solution is to spend more on the Deluxe or Premium or to return the product - not really great solutions in my opinion!     - 401(k) I believe I already know the answer to these, but I will describe my issues anyway: I am a new Money user (2005 Standard) having been a Quicken user from Quicken 5 to Quicken 2005 (briefly-but that is another story). I have a 401(k) with my employer through Vanquard that has two investment accounts: Company X Stock Fund Company X ESOP Fund In addition to this, I have outside this plan an investment with Company X. Company X is set-up correctly as a stock in my non-401(k) investment and has the stock symbol associated with it so that the quotes will download. When Money set-up the first download of Vanquard investments, it setup Company X Stock Fund Company X ESOP Fund as Mutual Funds which I am okay with. My issue is that I am unable to associate these funds to the Company X stock symbol so that these investments will be properly valued in Money. I was able to do this in Quicken, but I seem to be prevented in doing this because Money is looking for a single relationship between the name of the investment and stock symbol. I also had the investment setup as a stock within Quicken. The fact that they are setup as mutual funds in Money might also prevent me from entering a stock symbol (I haven't proved this.). I know I can enter the prices manually which is a pain to do on a daily basis. Yes I know I am probably micro managing the investment. 1) Does anybody have any ideas on how to get around this without manually entering the prices? 2) Is there a way to import price history through a file?     - Any way to customize asset allocation categories in Money 2004? I want to be able to assign my own asset allocation categories to Microsoft Money to be able to group by them. For instance, Money would view a precious metals mutual fund as only a "mutual fund", but for me, it's really a separate investment class I want categorized under "precious metals". I'm pretty sure these categories aren't editable, so I was wondering if anyone has found a workaround (besides creating a separate Excel spreadsheet, which I already did). Thanks.     - Income item doubled in budget Hi group, I'm using Money 2005, and in looking at my budget summary for the current month, the budgeted amount for one of my income items is doubled. If it matters, it's a net pay paycheck deposit, and for illustration's sake, let's say it's supposed to be $1000/week. My budgeted amount shows up as $8000 instead of $4000. If I view next month's budget, it's correct in there. Where can I look to see where I may have somewhere told Money that I was supposed to get paid twice as much this month? I almost think that something's a tad out of synch from my 2004 upgrade. When I select this income item in the budget summary and click "Edit item," I am prompted with a dialog asking me which item I want to edit. There are three duplicate entries in the dropdown, all my paycheck. Two of them, when I select them and click OK, there is no reaction; I am not taken to the edit screen for the item.     - Starting new year with money 2004 or 2005 Using Money 2004, my file has grown to over 50mb is size. Tired of slow response with money. Is there a way to start a new year, say 2005, and import just my accounts. I don't need the balances as I can imput them myself. Also is there a way to turn off the cash flow forecast graph that appears on the bottom of each account. Whenver I change accounts it takes forever for the forecasting to be complete. It's bad enough on my desktop computer which is a 2ghz machine, but completely unbearable on my old notebook which chugs along at 600mhz. I have been getting this message for TWO WEEKS now. I set up three accounts with no problem, then this message over and over every day.     - Does Yodlee tend to just shut down? I've finally had updates semi working (except for many constant doubles) for about a month or more. It won't update the past 2 days. I've tried deleting accounts again from the web site when that didn't work I removed synchronization. Now on the new file it creates for my account after it took my password, it won't work.     - Canadian edition bank list problem For some reason my bank no longer shows up in the bank account list in the canadian edition. When i initially set up Money my bank was there and setup correctly. I messed a few things up so i wanted to start over now my bank isn't there ( Royal Bank of Canada).     - M04: Mis-identifying payee I occasionally go to a particular ATM to make a withdrawal. When I eventually download that transaction, M04 will automatically change the Payee to my power company. The first time it happened, I called my power company and asked them why they charged me $40. But they didn't - M04 simply made the change. When I go onto my bank's website, there's nothing in transaction that seems to suggest my power company. M04 simply seems to be changing it for me.     - Problem downloading bank list Just got Money 2005 and I'm attempting to add my bank accounts. When Money goes to download the bank/credit card company/etc list it fails and says that it's unavailable/try again later. I'm definately online and I'm able to download updates for the application itself so I can't imagine that this is a firewall issue. I disabled my firewall, anyway, and it did not help. I installed Money 2005 some months ago after using 2004 and have never had a problem of any kind at all. I have even had to do a complete reinstal and still no problems. Just out of curiosity, when I select Connect to my Bank and the dialog box
comes up, why doesn't the title bar of the Update dialog window use the XP
interface?

Because they didn't program it to work this way? M05 seems to pretty much
ignore the operating system scheme and styles and UI conventions and so
forth. Perhaps this is because it's too complicated to make it work
correctly on all of the different operating systems supported. Perhaps this
is because the Money designers think they know better. Who knows?
