 - Capital gains for day trades I'm using Money 2006. I own shares of XYZ at different cost basis acquired on different dates. At times, I do day trades of XYZ where I buy and sell the same shares on the same day. For some reason, Money refuses to allocate the shares I bought on the same day to my sale. When I sell the shares, it shows me all the shares of XYZ I bought before (which is fine), but it doesn't list the shares of XYZ I bought on the same day! The program seems to handle sells before buys on a given day. I can't believe the Money programmers can possibly overlook something so trivial.  - Puttin Money 2004 on another PC I've got a brand new Dell Dimension 3000 running XP Pro / SP2 and loaded Money 2k4. Originally, I tried accessing my .mny file on my white box running 2k Pro from the Dell. The name at the top of the window changed reflecting the .mny file name but no data appeared inside the Money 2k4 window. - I uninstalled Money 2k4 and re-installed it on the Dell and applied all the MS updates for Money. Still no luck... - I copied the file off the 2k Pro box and onto the Dell. Still no luck... - I executed a repair on the file and tried accessing the new one.  - Money 6 - Version? I recently purchased "MS Money 6 Deluxe" at Wal-Mart. I've noticed that most retailers, i.e. Amazon.com, Circuit City, Office Depot, Staples, etc. are selling this for $59 and there is a $20 manufacturer's rebate. Wal-Mart's price was $29 but not subject to rebate. I've checked the product number and they show as 860-00391. The Wal-Mart version shows as 860-00394. Why are there two different product numbers and are they different? I'm having a problem with my installation and I'm beginning to wonder if I bought a "gray market" item!  - Dis-associate payee I've somehow gotten a paye associated with a different one. When I connect to my bank and download my transactions, any transactions from Albertson's automatically associate with a different payee (Waste Connections). I have to manually change the payee before I accept the transactions. More of a nuisance than anything else. But I would like not to have to do it every time. This is for Money 2005 Standard Edition.  - Converting Money 2001 International addition file to 2006 US editi I have been using Money 2001 International Addition (English) file bought in India all these years. I am very sastified with it. I have now moved to US and recently bought and installed Money 2006 Premium edition. While installing 2006 the older version needed to be uninstalled as per instalation procedure. Now Money 2006 is unable to convert my old version money file into 2006. It gives a message that this file "cannot be opened because it was created using a different version of Money".  - Downloaded transactions not showing in Money I am running MS Money 2003 Standard Edition V11 update 1 and when I download account transactions from my bank one account shows 17 transactions downloaded but will not display them in the account. All other accounts work fine its' just this one account which will not display. I have deleted the downloaded statement (by right clicking the 'Transactions to read' entry in the account list and tried downloading again....no go. I repaired the money file using '"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\msmoney.exe" -s' command and using the Salvage program still no go. And I removed and re-installed Money and it still does not recognize the transactions. I also created a new money file and downloaded the account to there and that worked.  - Automatic Backup When I close Money 6 Deluxe, I cannot get it to place the backup files (My Money_date_time.mbf) in the same folder as (My Money.mny) is located. I've tried to change this in "Tools/Settings/Backup Settings" without success. It is impossible to change the file path in the dialog box or even change the amount of backup files you want Money to keep. Any suggestions?  - Question about total cast basis calculation for an investment acco I am using Money 2004 to track my mutual fund investments, among other things. I had the portfolio manager options set to show closed positions. When configured as such, the the cost basis from the closed positions was added into the total cost basis for the investment. In my case, the closed positions were a result of a non-taxable sell and reinvest into another investment. Long story short, some money shows up twice in the total cost basis calculation. After clearing the option to show closed positions, the total cost basis calculation appears to be correct. I would expect to see the same number regardless of this option.  - Accessing Qdata on home network I am trying to access Qdata.mny from a laptop (win98) on my home network, but that generates an error message saying the file is read-only or there is a problem with security privileges. The file was created on a desktop running XP (sp2, all recent updates). I have enabled sharing for the Money 2002 folder and the Qdata.mny file on the desktop and ensured that Qdata.mny is not read-only, but still get the error message.  - Incorrect Message about trial version expiration I purchased and downloaded MS Money 2005 Standard in Feb 05 but didn't install until July 05. Everytime I open Money to use it I get a message that the trial version will expire on Oct 17. I have a receipt showing that I purchased the Standard version not the Trial version.  - Splitting Bank Acct into other Subgroups? I am looking at purchasing Money, but want a way to track several different catagories within my bank account. For example I want to know how much I have saved in my bank for car registration and such. Is it possible to add subcatorgies to the bank accounts?  - Cancel Online Updates for a Closed Account I recently closed an account at my bank where I also have 2 other active accounts. I am using MM05 and it still keeps trying to download transactions even though this account is closed in MM05 and at the bank.  - Unable to Sign in to MSMoney2005 w/Passport Sorry - similar problem to others in this group. Ysing MS Money 2005 Standard. Needed to change all passwords. Went to each vendor/institution website and changed pw. Went to passport.com and changed pw for user ID. Accepted it just fine, have reopened IE, returned to passport.com and was allowed to log in using new pw. I signed into this newsgroup using new pw. However, MS Money would not allow me to use new pw with passport sign in. I restored my backup from yesterday, signed in offline. Went to file/pwmanager and "removed" passport. Closed MSMoney. Reopened Money w/no password. Went back to file/pwmanager. Chose - 'use existing passport'. Entered existing userID and new passport pw. No luck. Error message states-"Your sign in information could not be verified. Please try again later". I have tried off and on x 24 hrs. I can always use Money w/o passport password protection. But I'd rather not. I want it to work the way it's supposed to. PS - I already tried "To register the Msxml3.dll file, click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 Msxml3.dll, and then click OK."  - Cannot enter multiple categories?? I have just updated to Money 2005 from 2004. When I attempt to enter the second line of a transaction with multiple categories, the program closes. I have tried every way I can think of to enter the second line, but each time I hit the Tab or Enter key, or click the second line, the program immediately closes. Has anyone seen this behavior before? Also, when I went to "Add/Remove" to try and find a "Repair" option, all that was there was the "Uninstall" option which said something like: "If you uninstall this program, you will not be able to open any saved files even if you have a previous version on the program".  - Online vs Desktop I've been playing around with Money 2006, and things don't seem to be synchronized between when I run the app from my desktop and when I go through Moneycentral. I'd expect that if I add an account to MoneyCentral, that it would show up next time I log into Money 2006 on my desktop.... but it doesn't. As it stands, I'm forced to use MoneyCentral because I don't feel like re-entering all my data. Also, everytime I try to add an account through Money 2006, and I try to lookup the financial institution, it tells me "the list is temporarily unavailable" (which incidentally is why I went to MoneyCentral to begin with).  - Investment Account Summaries are always blank I am a brand new user to Money 2006. After the very first time I set up my Ameritrade brokerage account, it neatly listed my positions in the account summary (after clicking on the account from the account list). Unfortunately, that was the only time my holdings were displayed in the summary. Now the summary is always blank, and I have to click on Investing Tools --> Portfolio Manager to see the positions. I have no idea what's wrong. I even setup a manual (non-linked) investment account and it does the same thing, it wont display my holdings in the account summary.  - Stock splits & graphs When I look at the price history for eBay, I'm seeing a large increase in the graph between 2/23 and 2/25/205, when their stock split occurred.  - Bills overdue I'm using Money 2006, and have a question that has been unsolved since Money 2003: The Bills & Deposits list is constantly showing me items that are past due, and I believe this is because the downloaded transactions are often showing up with different names. How can I match up the past due items with the actual transactions that they belong to? "Make a one-time payment" isn't what I want, because the bill was already paid (via MSN BillPay). I just want to say "this bill here was paid by this payment there." Similarly, double clicking on the item in the bill summary offers to add an entry to my register.  - Duplicate joint accounts... help? Hi, I hope there is a "fix" for this. My fiance and I each have a personal bank account at the same bank. We also have a joint account together at this bank. My problem is that money, using yodlee, updates our account information. However, we get two joint accounts created in money (one for each of us), instead of one. There is no option to "merge duplicate accounts" either since I money is considering the banks seperate banks during download (which we had to do.. considering we have different passwords and user names to access each of the personal accounts at the bank). Here is the setup: Chevy Chase Bank #1 My personal bank account (has my own password and username) Our Joint Account Chevy Chase Bank #2 Fiance's personal bank account (has his own password and username) Our Joint Account As you can see.. money is therefore creating 4 accounts instead of 2 personal and 1 joint when downloading. I have tried "closing" one of the joint accounts.. but even if an account is closed in money.. it apparently will update during a download. I also tried finding an option to force money not to update/download information for one of the joint accounts... but apparently money can't download one account's information from a bank with out the rest of the accounts (it forces me to kill the personal bank account download as well.. if I want to kill the joint account). Any help would be appreciated. I realize I could simply turn off automatic downloading.. but automatic downloading besides the duplicaton of the joint account... has actually been quite convenient and I would prefer to simply find a solution that would allow me to either stop one of the joint accounts from updating.. or merge it... or something.  - Citibank download not working I am using Money 2003 Deluxe and have been downloading credit card activity from Citibank for months without any problems. Recently, however, the downloads (using Internet Updates-->Update Now) are not pulling in new Citibank activity. All other non-Citi accounts continue to work. I've noticed that the date under the "Last Downloaded" column are way into the future (4/25/2101 and 1/27/2089). Is there a problem specifically with Citicards? If not, how do I change the date back to the last real download date? It appears that I won't be able to download any new activity until the dates listed occur. Of course, I won't care by then. Does anyone know how to do transactions such as Homeowner's Insurance to pay the premiums in 12 equal payments but is paid when billed by the insurance company once a year? Currently, I am budgeting 1/12 of the estimated premium each month in a line item in expenses. Each month I transfer this amount to a liability account to be paid when I receive a bill from my insurance company. It won't create a problem if you plan on moving your data file from machine
to machine. A USB flash drive would probably be a great way to transport the
file to and fro.
