    - balancing investment account I am using Money 2003 Deluxe. I have an investment account at datek which has two portions one for cash and other investment. Let's call it Datek(Cash) and Datek. When I reconcile my cash portion of investment account, the investment portion will not be reconciled by itself. How do you reconcile the investment part of this account?     - Money 2002 All of a sudden the downloads from my bank show up as statements to read but when I open the account it doesn't show any new activity. I have tried manually downloading the account updates but that doesn't work either. The list of accounts continues to show statements to read.     - 401(k) I am completely confused on how to set up and track my 401(k) account using the quarterly updates I get in the mail and how to tie that in with the money that is taken from my paycheck. Also included in my quarterly statements is my profit sharing and employer match. Where can I find a 'dummies' version of how to do this.     - Running asset transfers thru income statement I would like to transfer money from an IRA asset account at a brokerage house to a taxable account at the same broker's but want it pass thru the income statement so that it shows as an IRA distribution.     - Stay Far Away Stay far away from Money 2004 Delux. I purchased the online version for my computer and then a month later my hard drive began going bad. I tried to access online help before I lost my drive completely, but Microsoft online help would not recognize my product ID (I checked it three times). After reinstalling a new hard drive, Microsoft will not help me get my product back. They want my ID number (which I lost with the hard drive), my product key (which doesn't exist since I bought the software online), or $35 dollars for technical support (which should come free with my warranty). I had money 2004 Delux and registered it with Microsoft, and they will do nothing to help me (except charge more money). I am on my way to the store now to buy a CD of Quicken.     - Balances negative - help!! I accepted a downloaded transaction today and Money 2004 crashed on me. When I restarted, I noticed that my checking account balance was negative and several unsent electronic billpay transactions had materialized. The only backup I had seems to not work (damn floppies).     - Mutual fund transfer Hi, I consolidated my mutual funds into one brokerage account. In Money 2003 I used the 'transfer account' function to move the fund's shares to the broker account. When I subsequently sold the fund, the capital gains report showed that the sale was a 100% short term gain transaction, which is incorrect as nearly all the shares were held more than 1 year (many more then 5 years).     - Recording Investment Fees My 401(k) charges investment fees by deducting shares from my account. My question is what is the correct way to do this. I have read that you can simply sell the number of shares deducted for the investment fee, and then use other expenses and specify that fund and balance out the sell transaction. However, I have also read that you can simply sell the shares for zero dollars and put the fee in the commission field. My question is which one of these methods is going to correctly show my gain.     - Money Report Formats Is there any version of Money that provides a better method of report column customisation than by using; 1. Smaller fonts - only makes fonts smaller, does not adjust column width? 2. Column Width - choosing narrow only makes the report wider? I'd like to be able to print reports fitted to standard page widths and be able to accurately determine column widths just like we can do in real programs. It attempts to uninstall 2002 but fails at a point where it is attempting to find a folder containing a file called money.msi. The telephone support team was unable to resolve the problem.     - Upating Prices Online Problem Running Money 2004. For the past few days, I have clicked on the links to update prices online and/or the Internet Updates with the option to download quotes, news, and exhange rates enabled. The software's update dialog box comes up, and the internet connection shows communications between me and whereever Money goes to get the information.     - Error downloading bank statement (OFXIE12029) Error message was as follows ... An internet communication error occurred. Please try your call again later. (OFXIE12029) From what I can find this error is about virus or firewall software but I have never had thoses on this computer at any time!     - I am lost. OK I will try to explain this the best I can: I started using Money 2002 on Nov. 24, 2003. I used my online account balance from that day as my starting balance for my account on Money. I then entered the transactions I had for that day and every day from then on. On Jan. 24, 2004 I attemped to balance my account. When Money asked for the statement date, I entered 11/24/03 thinking this was the day I opened the Money account. I guess I did not realize this was for PAPER BANK STATEMENT'S only. I did not have any paper statement in hand, I simply was balancing my account from the day I opened it (Nov. 24, 2003) to Jan. 24, 2004. Thankfully it worked and I was balanced, or so I thought. Today (Jan 28, 2004), when I tried to balance the account, Money was telling me I last balanced the account on 11/24/03 and that I have errored in the ending and beginning balances. Now I see this is to be used for PAPER BANK STATEMENTS and am stuck realizing I won't be ever able to balance my account by Money from here out. My questions are: Can I review and fix old balancing of accounts (keep in mind I have not backed up any files yet)? OR Can I delete the balancing of the account and pretend like I have never tried to balance it. This way I can start from the beginning using PAPER Statements. When I try to transfer a balance from one credit card account to another, the register shows it as a charge on the account I'm transferring from, thereby increasing the amount I owe rather than decreasing.     - Canadian Financial Institution List I have the Canadian version of Money 2004, but the list of financial institutions that shows up when setting up accounts is for US banks. I had this problem with Quicken, and it was solved by importing a Canadian list of finanical institutions. Is there such a file for Money? If so, where do I find it and how do I import it? Thanks!     - incorrect updates from downloaded statements I am having trouble with downloaded brokerage statements updating with incorrect information to Money 2003 Deluxe. The problems seem limited to option trades. Problem #1: Some options are being listed as stocks under Investment type." The ones that do get listed as options are all listed as Puts when many were actually Calls. Is there any way to change an Investment type on the Details page, or another section? The only user changeable aspects seem to be Investment Name or Symbol, both of which are correct, while Investment type appears to be etched in stone. Even deleting all transactions of this investment and entering them manually does no good, as the program remembers all the details and fills them in without user prompts. Problem #2: Some option trades are incorrectly listed as Sell to Open when they were really a Sell to Close. When I attempt to correct this I am told I must first have a Sell to Open transaction for this investment and my change is not inacted. But I DO have a Sell to Open transaction. This leaves me with both a long and a short position on the same option when in fact I have no position at all. Problem #3: While trying to update a statement Money will tell me it found investment +SGQUU, for example, in my portfolio and to either enter it as a new investment or pick a new name from the drop down list. If I pick new investment it will tell me I already have an investment with that name and must pick a new one. This only happens on a closing transaction, so of course the investment is already in my portfolio from the opening transaction. And the name is correct so picking a new name is not a proper course of action. My only choice left is to pick Postpone and Money aborts the update proceedure for all transactions, instead of just skipping the problem security. I don't know if that's normal but it sure is annoying. Is anyone else having these problems and does anyone know how to work around them? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.     - Money 2002 reinstall on XP won't update Money 2002 I used Money 2002 on my Win 98 machine successfully. Now, when I try to retrieve updates to the program itself, it tells me to reinstall the program. I've done this about 4 times already to fix other problems but can't get this one to work. After installing Money 2004, it will not allow me to open
it. An error message reports no state data. I have tried
different installation types and tried all of the MS
solutions without success. I can't even e-mail MS for
support because I can't open Money to get my product ID and
the webpage will not accept any of the ID numbers on the
disk or packaging. $90 and 6 hours spent on installing
this software and it won't work, what's up?

Have you tried opening the sample file? - what is the exact error you see?
