    - Error message I'm using Money 97. I use the program several times over a couple of weeks and then, for no reason apparent to me, I get this error message: "The path is not properly set up in the registry or has been moved after running Money's Setup. Please reinstall Money. Otherwise, Money may not be able to run properly." After putting in the CD and choosing "Repair" it works fine... until a couple of weeks later and it happens again.     - Getting Rid of Mis-named Investment from Online Statement A sticky one here, folks: How do I get rid of a mis-named investment that appears in one of my online statements? I have several investment accounts that contain Microsoft Corporation stock. I have an Investment in MS Money named "Microsoft Corp" with the stock symbol MSFT. When I connect online, these accounts are updated with the current price of Microsoft stock. That works fine. However whenever I receive online updates for one of these accounts and go to update it, Money indicates there is a line in the statement for "Microsoft Stock". The number of shares matches the number of shares of "Microsoft Corp" that are already in the account. * If I respond "No I'll make adjustments myself", I get the same notifcation of the need to add these shares every time I run online updates. And I have to manually select the No option each time (very annoying, and I'm worried I'll forget some time and will accidentally leave it at the default "Make the adjustments" with the results in the next bullet). * If I approve the automatic adjustment Money wants to make, then I wind up with X shares of "Microsoft Corp" AND X shares of "Microsoft Stock" -- double the correct number of shares in the account (confirmed in paper statements and when viewing the account balances at the brokerages web site). Oddly, it does not adjust the "Microsoft Corp" total even though it should not appear in the list of investments on the statement. I have tried to "Rename" both of the accounts, but I always get the message that there is another account using the same name (or stock symbol) and so it can't be renamed. I tried to Merge the investments, but they do not appear on the "Merge your duplicate accounts" list. I don't want to just leave it the way it is, because there is no stock symbol associated with the "Microsoft Stock" investment. That means the value does not automatically update when all other prices do. I have to wait until the next time I update statements to get a current price, and so I don't have an accurate view of the value of my portfolio in the interim. How can I fix this problem?     - Why did Money 06 repair double my data file size? I have had some occasional strange activity (During an Update while I was doing nothing I would occasionally get a pop up saying that I could not do what I was doing while the update was in progress) so I decided that I would like to run a salvage to see if any errors occurred within the file. Thus I started a normal repair of my 29MB data file. After a few minutes it finished and suggested I look at the log. The log showed that no broken records were found. Based on no errors I expected that the output file would be identical to the input file. However the resultant output file is 50NM in size. Any comments on what might be occurring would be appreciated. At this point I have not tried the 50MB file but do not find any reason to doubt the smaller files correctness.     - Bank of America Update I just completed the update to Money 2005 that BoA required. After I finished, I found that the update had created duplicates of each of the BoA accounts I had in my file. The new accounts are now the ones linked to BoA; presumabley the old ones no longer are. My problem is that the new accounts do not contain the complete history. For example, my old "Checking" account contained data extending back several years. The new account, "Bank of America (All except CA, WA, & ID) Checking", only contains transactions back to about August 2005. I tried the Merge Duplicate Account function. It gave me a message that my "Checking" account contained transactions from prior to Feb. 16, 2006 (duh!) and that they would be deleted. Sure enough, the new account still doesn't contain any additional transactions. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get my complete transaction history into the new account?     - Online updates for Scottrade, Inc. account. I have been using Microsoft Money 2006 Deluxe since December 2005, without incident. In recent days, however, the program has been unable to successfully download updates for my Scottrade account. Using Internet Explorer, I am able to sign in to my Scottrade account, without any trouble, so it appears that Scottrade's servers are running properly.     - One money file, 2 computers I am new to money. I want to be able to access money both from work and at home. To facilitate this, I have a portable Hard Drive. I installed money to it at home, installed money to it at work (stoopid registry) pointed both instances to a single money file. Now, when I run it at home, everything is fine. When I run it at work I get a critical file is missing error. I reinstall at work and everything is fine again. I go home and voila! A critical file is missing error! <grrr /> How do I skin this cat?     - Money 2006 Asset vs Loan I have searched through all of the help files, and I cannot find a better explaination anywhere. When you create a loan account in Money, it asks you if you want to attach an asset to the loan. For example, when I created my car loan, it asked me to attach my car. How are we supposed to use the asset account as opposed to the load account? It currently shows as an asset, but if I add the payments I have made to it, it reduces the value.     - Money 2006 will not show some new transactions I have several accounts set up from a couple years ago in 2005. Most work fine except one from Citi (credit card). Now that I have upgraded to version 2006, the transactions say they have downloaded, and there is a number of transactions said to need reviewing, but I cannot show them.     - Wrong Calculation In Capital Gains I'm having problems with one of my reports. It's a YTD Capital Gains report and all the trasactions except on show the right amround. I've tried deleting and re-entering the Buy/Sell transactions for this investement with no results. It shows a Purchase Cost of 782.2 and a Sale Proceeds of 925.67, however the Gain/Loss field shows -0.0014. Clearly it should be 143.47. Any idea how to fix this? I'm runing MS Money 2006 Canadian edition and the Investement in question is in US Dollars. However, all other US investements show the propper Gain/Loss.     - Upgraded to '06, went online, now 2 registers??? I have been very cautious about starting online banking but decided to take the plunge. I upgraded my Money 2001 to 2006 and signed up with my bank. I have read the help file and did some searching for tutorials to no avail for my problem. What I dont understand is how having my check register which I enter transactions in manually and now a check register my bank has downloded will save me time. Do I need to balance both?     - Why does Money 2006 keep looking for a server? I just upgraded from Money 2000 to the Canadian version on Money 2006 Standard. I don't want to store any of my information online and I want to download the information from my bank manually. I don't want Money goint to the internet to get anything unless I ask it to. However, I don't think that is what is happening. I think it is somehow looking for something over the internet first and then looking locally no matter what I want to do. When I click on the banking menu item I usually get a message saying "Cannot find server". When I click a second time it shows the Account list. It seems to happen on the other menu items as well, although not as often. I have seen references in the newsgroup to a Work Offline option but I have not been able to find it. Is there a way to keep Money from going over the internet unless I ask it to? Also, it appears that 80% of the links and menu items go to msn.ca (probably MoneyCentral in the US). Is there some way to get rid of those items? I only want to see the local functionality in Money itself when I am in Money. I have a web browser for finding sales pitches on web when I want them.     - Net Worth Over Time Report doesn't show bar chart I just upgraded from Money 2000 to the Canadian version on Money 2006 Standard and the Net Worth Over Time Report doesn't work properly. It will only show as a report. Options to change to a bar chart are greyed out. The first half dozen times I tried the report it showed the months but there was no data on the report. After trying various combinations of Level of Detail and Display As it now shows the data in a report format. The Net Worth Over Time bar chart was about the only thing my wife ever looked at. If the bars kept getting higher towards the right all was good. If not, she would want to "help" in my spending decisions. Any ideas how to get the bar graph back?     - Problems with personal and business accounts in one money file? Or use multiple money files. I've been used Money for years for my credit card, checking, some brokerage (the ones that work), etc. cards. Just one account, and when I open Money, that account opens. I am now about to become the treasurer for a business (a simple partnership) and a nonprofit (synagogue). I would like to keep those books in Money, but I don't think I want the business accounts in the same file as my personal accounts. I really don't see a need (I think) for a business version of Money (is there such a thing?). Neither business will have any inventory, just cash in and cash out for bills and such. Since there is a file menu on Money, I presume there can be more than one Money file, and opening the program would then prompt for which file to open. Correct or incorrect? If with one file open, I do online updates, would it just do the accounts in that one file, or all accounts in both files. It would seem it ought to be the former, but just want to be sure.     - Online updates only working with credit accounts? I have been struggling to get my account set up with automatic updates in money 2006. I have set it up successfully for 2 credit card accounts. But, when I set up brokerage accounts, they appear to connect to my accounts but then say $0 (this occurred with 3 accounts: Etrade, Fidelity, anad Vanguard). I searched the help/ user guides but found nothing about this problem. My bank (Citizen's Bank) apparently does not allow for automatic updates. I checked to see if Citizen's bank was on the financial institution list before I downloaded the software, and it was, so I feel like the list was a bit misleading.     - Enter acct balance then....? Newbie here. Just started using Money. I obediently entered the closing balance from my last statement and then started plugging in transactions after that date...now the checkbook and the balance in Money do not agree. Worked great with Quicken...I just got tired of talking to people in Bangladore. Short of deleting the account and starting over with a phony "ending balance" that would make the two agree (and then poking all subsequent transactions back in again :-( , is there an easier method?     - 2k6 Budget problem I've just started trying to use the budget features of Money (advanced budget). I entered my mortgage payment into Money as a bill and told Money to track that in my budget. What's weird is that for this month (February), it says I have a budgeted amount of 0.00, and so I'm over budget... for the month of March, the budgeted amount is 2x my mortgage.     - Autoreconcile reports that it can't balance one of my accounts, but I've only been using the Money 2k6 trial version for a few weeks now. Subject says most of it... recently every time I use online update, one of my accounts reports that it couldn't reconcile the account with my bank data. The account previously balanced fine. I do have some transactions that are automatically entered (a paycheck, etc) as well as some manually entered transactions that haven't cleared yet... does Money not ignore those transactions? The weirdness is that if I compare my RECONCILED Money data (that is, add/subtract the unreconciled amounts from the local balance in Money) to my bank website after accepting the new transactions, the amounts line up.     - Money 2006 and multiple Sole Proprietorships We are interested in using Money 2006 to manage family finances as well as the finances of at least three small proprietorships, two of which are likely to incorporate sometime in the next two years. It appears that Money (Small Business Edition) cannot manage multiple business entities in the same file, so the obvious workaround is to have separate files for home and each of the business entities. My questions: 1. Is it indeed correct that Money Small Business cannot track multiple entities in the same file? 2. Is it possible to share information between Money files (such as money moving from family finances to business finances and back, name and address data, etc)? 3. Is it possible to create reports and charts showing overall financial status for all tracked entities (1 home + 3 businesses)? In other words, is it possible to create multi-file or cross-file reports/graphs/charts (perhaps with the use of some intermediary file that collects the data from the others)? If his can be done without relying on Excel (and sacrifing the nice Money formats), I'd be thrilled. 4.     - Using Money Premium in Canada I have been using Money for 9 years now and am quite pleased with it. I am currently using the Canadian Edition of Money 2000. I use it on nearly a daily basis to track my income, expenses and investments. I would like to upgrade to a new version to be sure that my stock quotes and bank downloads will continue to work and hopefully gain some of the improvements and fixes that have occurred in the past 6 years. It appears that Money 2006 Standard does not track investments and it appears that Premium does not work for Canada. Since I have been happy with MS Money I wanted to be sure before I went out and purchased Quicken. Has Microsoft really given up the Canadian market for personal investment tracking to Quicken or do they have some other product or version I am not aware of?     - Recording Merger I've a merger that the wizard doesn't completely handle. BAC & MBNA merged. BAC gave 1:2 shares + some cash. They paid CASH-LIEU for fractional shares. Thus I have the following activity on my statement which I'm trying to record in Money. Before MBNA - 32.7068 shares Now 1/3/06 BAC SHRS rec'd through merger = 16 1/3/06 MBNA Fee = $25 1/3/06 MBNA Merger = (32.7068) = $134.92 (I think this is the cash part of the merger. 1/9/06 BAC CIL On 0.38284 @ 46.62010 = $17.85 (I think this is payout of 1/2 the fractional share left after the 1:2 stock swap) I have NO CLUE how to properly record this in Money 06. I can't count the number of hours of wasted unmatching this kind of stupidity, and I've *NEVER* found that I had just entered a transaction wrong in these cases. --- I have to agree with you. With the transaction matching, I can't figure out what it uses to match downloaded bank transactions with-the amount OR the payee. the preferred payee listing should help SOME, but like me(and probably MANY others), Wal-Mart is a store I shop at the most often for groceries, household, etc. Many times, the match amounts are different and the payee doesn't even LOOK the same or use the same letters in its name. That one is hard to figure out why! My payee list was recently cleaned up and my bank download this morning matched(or mis-matched) over 1/2 my entries and even attempted to match to a reconciled transaction. At least MS Money makes it easy to identify it when (mis)matched so we can match it to something else or just make it a stand-alone altogether. My vote would be for matching to look for amounts first and payees second. That would greatly reduce the time attempting to rematch things.     - Money can't sync a Certificate of Deposit (BANK VS INVESTMENT) I have a certificate of deposit CD, held at Bank of America, setup through, money that I update manually. Recently, I setup Money 2006 to sync with Bank of America (California). And low and behold it downloaded this account. Unfortunately the downloaded account is a BANK account while the account that I created through MONEY is an INVESTMENT account. Is there any way to merge these two accounts and continue to get udpates on the balance?     - Money won't synchronize with my Etrade account. For some reason I cannot figure out why Money 2006 will not synchronize with my Etrade investment account. I have entered the correct account information but it will not update. Any ideas as to what I can try to make it work properly? This is extremely frustrating. Even though I download my statements from TD, The downloaded date won't
change to current date. Some accounts work and most others don't. The bank
balances also don't update, however I can see the current downloaded
transactions in the account register. How can I fix this?

I too have Money 2003 and looked at my TD account. It shows the last
downloaded date and balance from January 2005. My TD credit card account
shows the same.
No other problems with the downloads, just the last date and balance in
the left pane is incorrect. It doesn't seem to be a problem with any of my
other accounts.

I guess it isn't a problem right now, but would be nice to see accurate
information from the program. It's like Money 2003 won't read all of the
download file correctly.
