Budget issue w/auto transfer to IRA
Greetings,
In my budget I set up an expense for "Roth IRA Automatic
Transfer" because I transfer an amount monthly from my
checking to my Roth IRA.
When I put in the checking register to transfer the
money, it shows up on my expense record (the page where I
see if I have to reallocate funds for going over my pre-
set budget limits) under the category "Special" and is
listed as "Transfer out of Account" (or something like
that.) So it shows I've spent money that was not
budgeted, and on the line where I *did* budget the money,
it shows I never actually spent it.
How do I get this transaction to show up where it needs
to (presumable under the budget category "Investment
Contribution" as the Roth IRA budgeted expense.)
Oh, one more thing. When I put this transaction into my
check register, it will only let me transfer the money to
Charles Schwab (Contributions) and not directly into the
SWMMX cash fund, so I when I go to "buy" more shares of
the SWMMX cash fund, it pays for it not out of
Contributions, but out of the SWMMX account itself
(meaning that account balance goes down and not up.) How
can I get this money into the SWMMX fund without a
problem?

Trying to transfer data files from Money 3.1
Does anyone know how to transfer files in Money 3.1 to a
new version of Money such as Money 2004.
Would I have to purchase Money 98 convert one time and
then purchase Money 2004 and convert again?
My friend has Windows 3.0 and Money 3.1. She has over 10
years of checkbook files.
Does this make sense? Please advise.
Note: On Money 2004, it states that it does not go back
further than Money 98.

Does this headline look familiar? Of course it
does. You most likely have just seen this story
recently featured on a major nightly news
program (USA) 20/20 & Oprah. His mother was
cleaning and putting laundry away when she
came across a large brown paper bag that was
suspiciously buried beneath some clothes and a
skateboard in the back of the 15-year-old son's
closet. Nothing could have prepared her for the
shock she got when she opened the bag and found
it was full of cash. Five-dollar bills,
twenties, fifties and hundreds, all neatly
rubber-banded and labeled piles.
"My first thought was that he had robbed a
bank," says the 41-year-old woman. "There was
over $71,000 in that bag - that's more than my
husband earns in a year."
The woman immediately called her husband at the
car dealership where he worked to tell him what
she had discovered. He came home right away and
they drove together to the boy's school and
picked him up. Little did they suspect that
where the money came from was more shocking than
actually finding it in the closet.
As it turns out, the boy had been sending out,
via e-mail, a type of "report" to e-mail
addresses that he obtained off the Internet.
Every day after school for the past 2 months, he
had been doing this right on his computer in his
bedroom.
"I just got the e-mail one day and I figured
what the heck, I put my name on it like the
instructions said and I started sending it out,"
says the clever 15-year-old.
The e-mail letter listed 5 addresses and
contained instructions to send one $5 bill to
each person on the list, then delete the address
at the top and move the other addresses down,
and finally to add your name to the top of the
list.
The letter goes on to state that you would
receive several thousand dollars in five-dollar
bills within 2 weeks if you sent out the letter
with your name at the top of the 5-addressee
list. "I get junk e-mail all the time- and
really did not think it was going to work." the
boy continues.
Within the first few days of sending out the
e-mail- the post office box that his parents
had gotten him for his video-game magazine
subscriptions began to fill up with not
magazines, but envelopes containing $5 bills.
"About a week later I rode my bike down to the
post office and my box had one magazine and
about 300 envelopes stuffed in it. There was
also a yellow slip that said I had to go up to
the post office counter. So thought I was in
trouble or something (laughs)." He goes on- "I
went up to the counter and they had a whole box
of more mail for me. I had to ride back home and
empty out my backpack because I could not carry
it all.
" Over the next few weeks, the boy continued
sending out the e-mail. "The money just kept
coming in and I just kept sorting it and
stashing it in the closet, I barely had
time for my homework." He had also been riding
his bike to several of the banks in his area
and exchanging the $5 bills for twenties,
fifties, and hundreds.
"I didn't want the banks to get suspicious, so
I kept riding to different banks with like five
thousand at a time in my backpack. I would
usually tell the lady at the bank counter that
my dad had sent me in to exchange the money and
he was outside waiting for me. One time the lady
gave me a really strange look and told me that
she would not be able to do it for me and my dad
would have to come in and do it, but I just rode
to the next bank down the street (laughs)."
Surprisingly, the boy did not have any reason to
be afraid. The reporting news team examined and
investigated the so-called "chain letter" the
boy was sending out and found that it was not a
chain letter at all. In fact, it was completely
legal according to US Postal and Lottery Laws,
Title 18, Sections 1302 and 1341, or Title 18,
Section 3005 in the US code, also in the code
of federal regulations. Volume 16, Sections 255
and 436, which state a product or service must
be exchanged for money received.

Problem with Asset Accounts
Hi
I have created several asset accounts for different properties I own.I have
also assigned which ever mortgage applies to each one. My question is when
you go into each asset and update the price of the house it throws up a few
problems.
What categories do you assign to it? Is it an income? or is it special? just
what is it I see no default categories. I have entered it as an account
adjustment!
But then I find the second problem whatever you list it a sit shows up in
that months income which throws your graphs and reports completely out.
Please can anybody tell me the correct way to show this the correct way.

MVP Help Required
Hi
I have tries adding classifications for some rental properties I own, no
problem.
My previous way was to enter the details as follows
From: ABC Rental Agency
Category: Split /Multiple Categories (In this area I would have several
items listed on my statement from ABC Rental Agency e.g.: Rental Income ,
Repairs, Management Fess etc etc)
The only problem with this is how do I associate it with a particular
property?
My method was to put the address in the memo field the only problem with
this is you have to remember!!
I thought the best way would be to add classification of the different
addresses I own, but I have a problem that I cannot enter Split /Multiple
Categories anymore. Because in classifications I can only enter one item and
I am not able to enter any details under Category: Split /Multiple
Categories ???
I now find when I enter a split in categories it will no longer work as it
auto adds split categories in the categories field and the new
classification field?????
If I delete the entry in the classification field it deletes the categories
field.
Hope this makes sense but its doing my nut in.

payee aggregation and categorization
I'm using the trial version of money deluxe 04 and have just gone through
the payee list and aggregated multiple listing say a gas station like shell
oil, shell tahoe city, shell whatever to all be just Shell. In doing so, I
assume that all categorization for each transaction would not be altered if
the payee name is changed. For example some of most of these gas purchases
would be categorized as automobile: gas but some as vacation: travel. Does
this make sense? COuld someone confirm this?

Including "special" category transactions in a budget
Hello
I was wondering if someone could help out with the
following:
I want to set a limit for the amount of credit card
payments in my budget. To do that, I need to specify the
category for the transactions that I want to track in the
planner. However, when I enter a transaction for a credit
card payment into the register, I have to enter it as
a "special" transaction (i.e., "Credit Card Payment :
MASTER card"), so that it is linked in both "From"
and "To" accounts - otherwise, if I assign it to a
different category, the budget planner will see it as two
separate transactions.
The problem is that the budget planner does not allow
adding "special" categories - looks like it's only
limited to Expenses and Income.
Does anyone know how I can get around this problem?

A few questions from A Quicken Convert...
I recently switched over from Quicken to Money 2003 and have a few
questions:
1) In reports and summarys (on home screen and Pocket Money for example)
it's shows the ending balances rather than the current balances. This is a
bit of a pain for me and I was wondering if there is a setting to just get
it to display the current balance.
2) Is the a way to change the status of a transaction (cleared, reconciled
etc.) other than right clicking it and selecting through the menus? In
Quicken you could just click in the 'Clr' field once for 'C' and another
time for 'R'.
3) For Pocket Money, it seams to only be pulling in 12 accounts when I have
more that I'd like to pull in. Is there any way to up this number or at
least choose which ones get sync'ed into the PDA?

Buy Symbol on graphs.
I am running MS Money 2003 Deluxe. When displaying
graphs, for a while, I would see a hexagon shaped "B"
displayed on the line graph indicating when a stock was
purchased. This disappeared, although the time for the
graph still includes the buy date. Does anyone have an
idea as to how I can get this restored?

Non-cash, Non-regular Transactions
Money 2003 SE V11
I have a need to set up transactions, such as Mileage, to
keep track of non-cash activities. I currently handle it
by setting up Bills & Deposits split into two
transactions totalling $0.00. The first is the
Category/Subcategory I want to track and the second is a
Category/(Non-Cash Offset Subcategory) that I filter out
of all reports. This works ok for me.
Example: (meaning 23 miles traveled)
Mileage:Medical/Dental 23.00
Mileage:Offset Non-cash Transaction -23.00
However, the transaction is not regularly occurring. Yet
we are required to have a Next Scheduled Payment Date in
Bills & Deposits. This means that I am constantly
burdened with the "This transaction is xx days
overdue..." message. I have many non-cash transactions
to keep track of, so setting the non-regular frequencies
and/or skipping them is burdensome.
Is there a way to set a generic transaction that I can
invoke only when necessary, without having to deal with
the date?

Distribute loan proceeds
I have Money 2000. I just financed my house and am trying
to distribute the loan proceeds. Money shows the
liability when I set up the mortgage but how do I record
the cash I received? I have set up an 'other income - loan
proceeds' account to record the proceeds, but this
distorts the reporting and I can't figure out how to

Problem restoring Money 2000 backup to Money 2003
Movoing Money files from desktop to laptop: Desktop was
Money 2000 under Windows Millenium, Laptop is Money 2003
under Windows XP.
Getting message: invalid path ... clicked OK, browse, etc
to locate file on MemoryKey, but then received message
that I was unauthorized to open, or it was in use by
another application.
Checked properties; not archived, not read only. Have
tried copying it into "My Documents" folder, all to no
avail.

Money04 - Reconciling investment accounts
In the "Investment Transactions" "View" of an Investment
account I can enter specific activities reported to me by
my brokerage account. Each of the transaction entries
has the "C" (for "Cleared") field and you can manually
select the transaction line, right click, select "Mark
As... | Reconciled" to balance the account. But this is
a ridiculous way to reconcile an account and is nothing
like what can be done for a regular banking account
through the "Balance this account" feature.
Is there a "Balance this account" feature, or something

password I've been using for years. It rejects it, from

Trying to transfer money 98 from one computer to money 2002 on another computer
I am trying to get my old money 5.0 version off my laptop
to a newer version of money 2002 on another computer.
The laptop is windows 98 & the new computer is windows
XP. The laptop's floppy is not working so I can not copy
the file to a floppy so I tried to email the file so I
could open it on the new computer. When I try to open
the new file it goes through the info but does not setup
or give you the option to setup. If anyone has done this
please let me know how. All my banking info is stored on
this laptop & I don't want to send it in for repairs to
get a new floppy drive installed with the info on the
computer, but don't want to delete it without saving the

unable to view downloaded / imported transactions
When I download online transactions or if I import
transactions from a bank account, they come into Money but
I can't view them. When I click on "items to review,"
nothing happens.
Sometimes when I go into balance account, these

Upgrade from Money 2001 to 2003
I have recently upgraded (with the purchase of a new PC)
from Money 2001 to 2003. I have attempted in numerous ways
to convert my existing "My Money" file to the new
application software, but with no success. The error
message returned is "Money cannot open this file because
it was created by an incompatible version"
How can one version be incompatible with another? And if
this is indeed so, where can I get a conversion patch so I

I got a strong feeling to head for the door.
And when I had gained enough courage to see,
I saw a blue screen staring right back at me.
MICROSOFT ERROR EXCEPTION IS FATAL!
I then wished Bill Gates had been killed when pre-natal.
And just when I thought all my hope had been shot,
A message appeared: "Insert Card Into Slot"
I looked in my wallet and took out my Visa,
And offered it to my PC on my knees-a.
It disappeared quickly and then it popped out,
My PC rebooted, and maxed my account.
Then what to my wondering eyes should appear,
Than a pictures of Gates robbing me peer-to-peer.

Next Check Number
Is there any way to set the number used for Next Check Number in a bank
account register. My problem is that I use one checkbook at home and my
wife and I each carry checkbooks. The checkbook at home, which I use
most frequently, happens to have the lowest check numbers. As soon as I
entered a check from one of the other books, Next Check Number keeps
using that (the highest number so far) as the basis for Next Check
Number and I have to manually enter almost all of my check numbers. (I
recently switched from Quicken where the corresponding function always
used the most recently entered check number.)

Delete stock pricing after sale?
Hi,
I am unable to remove a stock from the "update stock
prices" list, even after it is sold and zero balance. The
stock is gone from my Portfolio, but I can't get rid of it

Does anybody know if I can enter more than 9 credit card

Error Statement Downloads
Am running Money 2002 Standard. When I attempt to download statements from
Bank of America I get the following error message: "IE cannot download on
line statement control from onlinewest.bankof america.com. File could not be

Greetings!
How should I update the interest owed on a student loan.
The interest that Money has calculated is completely off
b/c I just now put the loan into Money, but have actually
had the loan for quite some time. Should I do an account
adjustment? If I do this, will Money think I am changing
the principal? I'd appreciate any help concerning this
matter!

Money 2004: file size
In the last week or so I've noticed a strange "bloating" of my file after
downloading about 50 stock quotes. Before I update the quotes, the file size
is about 27 meg. After, it's grown to 31 meg. I don't remember seeing
messages on quitting the program that it's compacting my file (used to get
those every couple of days with M2003). If I run Repair/Quick on the file,
it goes back to the previous size, i.e. 27 meg.

FITID Uniqueness in Money OFX files
Can any of you MVP gurus out there help me with this one?
I have produced some software which produces OFX files for import into MS
Money.
It is documented that the transaction ID (FITID) must be "unique", but
exactly how "unique" does it have to be to avoid false matches? If a FITID
value is reused after a year for the same account, will that produce a false
match which might cause a transaction to be overwritten?

I have purchased Money2004. Should I install the 2004
over the 2002 or should I remove the 2002 before

Can't download bank transactions
If anyone can help with this I would really appreciate it.
I have upgraded to a new computer and installed Microsoft Money 2003 on it.
I had been running it on my old computer with no problems, and was able to
download transactions from banks smoothly.
Now, when I try to download transactions, it looks as if it is working
(quick download screen from my banks site) but Money doesn't recognize it
and when I look for the downloaded file I can't find it.
I am running XP. I have Norton security and antivirus installed but
disabled it when prompted during my Money install. Suspecting this was
still the issue, I changed my Norton options to not restart at start up, and
rebooted. Didn't work. Reinstalled Money. Didn't work.

US Data conversion to UK Money
Just recently moved to the UK from the US and was told by
microsoft that I need to use the UK version of Microsoft
money to be compatible with the UK cheques. When I
installed the UK version it could not read my US files
because it said that the "language was incompatible".
Does anyone have a suggestion so that I don't need to
recreate 10 years of US history just to print a checque

missing password/2004 installation problems
Hi -
I was on the phone with tech support today for 75
minutes. I believe I have a bad disk (errors with disk
on 2 computers). 2004 wipped out my 2000 installation
and when I tried to restore my 2000 installation it asked
for a password. I don't have a password and don't recall
ever putting a password in. Please help! ALL of my
financial data is in that file for the entire year.

What about routing numbers when printing checks
I had bought a pack of versacheck refills, which are
compatable with money, and was looking forward to
printing my checks at home. Well after setup, i went to
print a few checks. The checks orinted fine and within
margins, but i notice that there arent any routing
numbers, my name or address, or anything on it to make
this a valid and redeemable check. Am i missing
