    - Tracking designated funds Periodically I will receive some funds (e.g. tax return, sale of stock, etc.) that I work out how to spend (e.g. to pay off debts, make specific purchases, etc.). In almost all cases, those funds are deposited in my primary checking account. In many cases, some of those funds get reallocated simply because they are in that checking account. What I would like to do is track those specific expenditures against those funds while they are in my checking account. Is there a way to do that without changing how they are categorized?     - Pre-tax accounts & budgeting OK... maybe I'm stupid, but how do I do the following? (Using Money 2003 Deluxe - Yes, I've suffered with this problem for 1.5 years now.) I have a medical pre-tax spending account set up on my paycheck so on my budget this amount shows under the "Transfer out of budget accounts" group (along with my 401k deduction). My pre-tax account is set up as an "asset" account. Here is my question. When I record an expense or withdrawl for a doctor's bill, etc., what category am I supposed to use? How does this whole process work? I knew how to do this in Quicken 98, but not in Money.     - Total Account Value Makes No Sense I have two CDs recorded in Money 2005 Investment Account. One CD is worth about $11,000, the other about $29,000. To me, that means the "Total Account Value" listed should be about $40,000. Instead, I see $69,000. This is the sum of the smaller CD plus two times the amount of the larger CD. Any explanation?     - Comparison of Quicken & Money--first impressions. Using Money 2005 and Quicken 2005. I have been a Money user for years. My goals in using the packages are to keep track of my checking accounts, investment accounts and credit cards and to watch my budget. I use my brokers free bill pay system and various outside services for investment decisions. I have been frustrated for some time with Money with their system for setting up and classifying categories and the continued inability to download transaction from my local bank and one of my investment brokers. I found the budget process very cumbersome. So I decided to try Quicken starting on the 1st of the year. The download took about 20 minutes on my DSL line. I was able to set up and download my local checking account, all my credit cards and both brokers in 4-5 hours. I had to make a few adjustments in my broker accounts for positions that were created prior to the dates I was able to download. What I like about Quicken is the fast downloads of all my accounts, the ability to set up classifications using the names I want and the budget set up (so far). I do not like the screens as well as the ones in Money 2005. It is too soon for me to tell if I will keep Quicken or not. Tag: Import Quickbooks file Tag: 183765

When I tried to sign up for online bill pay, I recieved a web page with a message that there isn't a microsoft web page that matches your entry.     - 2003 CDN Edition - Setting up a 5yr GIC I am trying to set up a retirement account that my employer contributes to; a 5 year guaranteed interest account. Even tho I have the CDN edition, all banking info and retirement account info is for US users, no CDN info available. Is this the same for '04 and '05 versions? What type of retirement account should I be choosing for the GIC (the 401K perhaps)? The account is just over 5 years old, so there are bi-weekly contributions from my employer, plus on a monthly basis, there are transfers out to RRSP's because of the maturing 5 year old deposits (the employer recently changed from monthly contributions to bi-weekly).     - Can't transfer money data file between computers I've tried, but failed, to transfer my money data file from my old computer to my new computer (old is ME, new is XP). No matter what I do I keep getting an error message "Money cannot locate [my file location and file name] or cannot open it." I've tried to make a backup copy from my old computer, and open this with the "restore backup" feature, but got the above message. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?     - Last Updated date wrong on Account List Hi- When I click on Accounts it shows the Last Updated date for my broker to be 12/29/04 but I just updated it today and got transactions. When I click on the date it brings up the little box with the passwords and everything and in gray says last updated as 1/1/05. Now I just recently switched brokers and changed this account over to a new login and password so I am wondering if it might have something to do with that. It is not a huge deal just kinda annoying when I am trying to figure out if everything is up to date. Does anyone know what might be causing this discrepancy?     - Decimal Point Auto Entry and Other Options Have most of the Tools --> Options been removed going from Money 2004 to Money 2005?? I just upgraded from Money 2004 Deluxe to Money 2005 Premium and am unable to find the "Automatically insert decimal point in amount field" option, and the many other options like it, that are normally under the "Editing" tab in options.     - How to enter company fund matching in 401k Can anyone explain how to accomplish the following: My company matches up to 6% of each 401k contribution I make each paycheck. The amount is vest 25% each year for the first 4 years of service. I am able to enter in all my paycheck deductions into my 401k account in money and it trackes properly. However, now that my 1st year is vested who do I enter the company matched part is it was purchased with each of my paychecks as a matching 6% amount.     - Quicken File Conversion I have tried to convert Quicken Premier 2005 files in Money 2004 & a trial version of 2005, and continue receiving the following error dialog: "Your Quicken data is contained in several files, and Money could not find all of them; or you are trying..." It continues to inform that all Quicken database files must be in the same directory. All of my Quicken database files do reside in the same directory.     - Credit Card charge/credit I have a credit card 'charge' transaction that was later credited back to me. I categorized the original charge but I want the credit to offset the expense in that category.     - Money Counts Transfers as Income In MS Money 2004 Premium, I've noticed that in the "reports" section, "income and spending over time" report, that MS Money counts transfers between accounts as both an income and expense: income to the account receiving the transfer, and expense to the account the transfer comes from. This is a problem, as if I have a month with a few transfers between accounts, it totally screws up the income and expense: it can be much different than the prior month, even though in reality my income and expense levels are about the same.     - Downloaded broker statements I upgraded from MS2004 Deluxe to MS2005 Deluxe. I download statements from my broker. Error message says download unsuccessful, and to try again. But when checking the results in the investment page and home page, figures have in fact changed. But I'm not sure if dividends received will download. I have called my brokerage. They say nothing has changed in their procedures. I have deleted and reentered my name and password. MS2004 worked great.     - Why is the data pulled down from an online update, ALL WRONG? I'm using Money 2004 Deluxe. I just figured out how to get online updates for my 403(b) from Fidelity. I've pull everything down into MS Money. Looked cool, at least for a while. Then I noticed that out of the 6 mutual funds I'm investing in, only 2 had symbols associated with them. So I tried to assign the symbols to the other 4. Only thing is when I did, I got error messages saying that the symbol was already in use. So then I went into help and found that if I went to the Investing menu option and choose "Work With Investments" and then choose "Choose a specific investment", I got a list of all of the mutual funds that I have, but they almost seem duplicated. For example, a partial list of the funds are: Fidelity Blue Chip Fidelity Blue Chip Growth (FBGRX) and most of the rest of the mutual funds that I downloaded from Fidelity, and apparently were already in MS Money. The ones downloaded from Fidelity didn't have the symbol, and the ones already in MS Money did (e.g.: the "FBGRX" above). Now, what do I do?! How do I combine them into the correct fund WITH the symbol? And what about other downloads of updates from Fidelity? Are they all going to have the wrong fund names with no symbols, requiring me to have to merge them again?     - Exchanging $ between IRA accounts Hi, I 'd like to record the exchange of $ from one of my Roth IRA mutual funds to another Roth IRA mutual fund, within the same fund family.     - Dividend for stock already sold I just received a dividend for a stock that was eliminated by a merger. What happened is that the merger was effective 11/30 but the dividend was payable 12/15 to stockholders of record as of 11/15.     - Canadian investment types? I just purchased 2005 CDN edition to upgrade from the 2003 "international" edition that came with MS Works. I'm trying to set up a retirement account (both RRSP and RRIF), but the only options presented are US-based investment options (401k, 403b, IRA, Keogh, etc). I just phoned the Canadian support number, and they told me that I'll just have to try to figure out which US account type will mimic the Canadian account type I'm trying to set up. Is this true?     - Re: Strange Payday rule... Hi Guys, Well, I know that Money 2005 is in full effect. I have been using MS Money Deluxe 2004 for about 6 months. I really love it! The only issue that still really bugs me is below. My wife still works for the School district and still gets paid on the 8th business day of each month. Does Money 2005 (any version) have the ability to set this up as a rule? If so I will prob buy, if not I will stick with 2004. :) Also, is there any other burning reasons to purchase 2005 (vice 2004)? I am just a regular user, that keeps track of debits (and use the payees, calendar, etc) and reconcile with my bank (not online, just download transactions).     - Multiple Change on Category Does Not Work Does anyone else have this problem? I just converted to Money 2005 Deluxe and I'm trying to clean some of my records up. When I am looking at a category (by going to Banking --> Account Tools --> Categories and Payees), it will show me all the transactions that have that category. There is a button that says "Change Category..." I can use this to change just one transaction, but if I highlight more than one, it will not change them all.     - Password issue on Restore? (Ahh!) I upgraded to Windows XP this weekend and reinstalled Money 2005. I have backups of my old money file. When I elect to "restore" my backup it asks for my account name (?) as usual and my .net password. The password I thought I was using is invalid so I chose "I forgot my password" and reset it.     - Linked Transactions/downloads I am new to MS Money 2004. Can someone please explain something to me... I have setup my accounts and have several with a particular bank: 'MyBank'. MyBank allows me to download my transactions from my credit, checking, and savings accounts. When I import all the transactions, many of them are actually associated (i.e. credit card payments from [MyBank: Checking] to [MyBank: Credit card A]). What I do understand (I think) from reading other posts, the FAQ, etc. is that expenses should be categorized in the credit card account and the credit card payments should be "Transferred" from the checking account to the credit card account. What I don't understand is when I go to the payment transaction in my checking account and mark it as a "Credit Card Payment" or "Transfer", it creates a duplicate transaction in the other (credit card) account and offsets my balance. What I would like to know is: 1. Is there a way to "Link" transactions that already exist in both accounts b/c they were downloaded without creating the duplicate? 2. If this is not possible, what is the best way to handle this? Not accept the downloaded transaction in the credit card account? Delete it if it has already be accepted? 3. Is it possible to retain different dates for the transaction? Meaning, the downloaded transaction in the checking account shows the date the payment was made from that account whereas the payment to the credit card account shows when it posted TO that account.     - I think the file corruption problem is the Investment Performance I really think that the crashing problem (or auto shutdown problem ) is the Investment Performance Module on the Homepage. I found that someone here in this board. I have not had this problem until the latest update. Microsoft please look into this ASAP. I do not want to move from your program, nor do I want to put countless hours rebuiding my info (again). If we could just come up with a way to remove it from the home page without opening the file, that woudl be great. Maybe a small utility that could allow us to mange the home page without actually launching Money. I was able to set up direct statements with my online sign-in information but can't figure out how to set up direct statements for my wife's accounts because she has a diferent login and pin. It appears that Money 2002 ver 10 can only accept one login and pin for any one bank. Please advise if there is a solution to this apparent problem.     - How to handle cashed cheques Hello, I'm new to these financial management programs and a few questions. 1) How do I enter an employment cheque that was taken to the bank and cashed without depositing it into my 'CHEQUING' account. Also sometimes most of the cash was deposited days later into my 'CHEQUING' account. I'm thinking of creating a separate account called 'CASH' and not use a category called 'CASH' so that I can do transfers back and forth between my 'CHEQUING' account and my 'CASH' account. Then I can do splits on the entries in my 'CASH' account for any large receipts for purchases that I made while the cash was in my pocket. Is this the correct way to go or are there other ways to do this that might be more effective. 2) Will the new 'CASH' account work for things like ATM machine withdrawals that show up in my 'CHEQUING' account entries? Would this just be a transfer from my 'CHEQUING' account to my new 'CASH' account. 3) I have other cheques that have been cashed at the bank but I want to keep track of the income. I've done this with GST Rebate cheques from the government for example. I think my new 'CASH' account would handle this also as I would enter the amount of the cheque into my new 'CASH' account as income. If I decide later to deposit some of the cash into my chequing account I will do a transfer from my 'CASH' account to my 'CHEQUING' account.     - File must be corrupt! Microsoft is going to loose a customer if no Hello, I am having the problem with Money 2005 shuting down right after opening my data file. I am a long time LISCENSED user of this program (5 yrs). I have tied everything including restore from an older file (last month), playing catch up by spending 5 hours reimporting and rekeying (I track everything with Money), and then I get the same problem. I am going to wait one week to see if anyone gives me any input on how to fix this problem. Then this liscensed for 5 years user (at 80 bucks a year * 5 years) will go but Quicken and use that instead forever never to return to Money. This has to be a bug that they have to know about. Please someone from Microsoft contact me to fix this. I noticed some real weird stuff. Like when I run the salvage utility the file INCREASES by 5 MB. I even tried archiving old data (everything older than Jan 1 2004, and the file got bigger (by 2MB-Should'nt it get smaller?). I am an IT guy, no spyware, all Win2K patched kept up to date on machine. I even tried another machine and got the same results. My file sizes range from 10 to 18MB (depending on acrhiving and salvaging). I get no error messages anywhere that I can see. Just Money shuts down after I get a glimpse of my data.     - Rebuilding Money file... I think I am having some issues with my Money 2005 file that just doing a file repair is not going to fix. These issues include error messages when cashing in a CD; online problems with just one account; random crashes, etc. My file is 40MB and contains a number of years of data; some of which I really no longer need. Basically, what I am thinking of doing is completely rebuilding my data file. This would (1) Give me a fresh copy which may resolve some of my issues; and (2) Allow me to import only the last 5 years of data, which is really all that I want to use now (but keep the rest for archival purposes); and (3) Reduce the size of my data file. Anyone have ideas or instructions on doing a complete rebuild of Money's data file? Basically, I believe I need to do something like this: Create the new data file; Create all the accounts, categories, payees, etc as my old file; then reimport each account based upon the date (i.e. everything starting with 1/1/2000). Why doesn't MS isolate all other functions the software is doing (and apply the resources to the task at hand) when one is jumping through accounts to see and review accounts.     - Money 2005 Can't Delete Investments I would like to delete old investment transactions even though they distort net worth history etc. All goes ok until I get to an old options entry. When the buy and sell entries are deleted the investment name becomes bold (active) and it will not let me delete the "Investment". Worse yet, if I try to Rename the option investment Money 2005 crashes!! When Money restarts it was nice enough to have made the name change. But it is still calling it an active investment.     - It's official Money 05 bites I was originally very enthusiastic about Money 2005. It seemed to do everything for me. But now I realize when it doesn't do everything right, there's no blasted way to fix it, they don't fix bugs, and their technical support is all but worthless.
